Having been forewarned about Ron and his interpersonal history, I was concerned when I brought my 1967 Mercedes 250 Cabriolet in for a general physical, oil and lube. Ron completed a very, very thorough exam, compiled a list of items in essentially 3 categories: items needing current work, items needing intermediate work, and items to be considered in the more distant future. I proceeded with category 1; scheduled list 2 for winter when the car was not in frequent use, and Ron completed all, with prices agreed upon and all done completely to my satisfaction. We had one adverse interaction, which came as a surprise blowup when he misinterpreted one of my comments, but this was smoothed over and with apology. The remaining items on his list can wait for now but I am a confirmed customer and quite particular. read more

I was just fired by Ron, and told repeatedly to just f... off, for my failure to listen to his phone recorded message fully. I had listened to the full message, and understood that he is not often in the shop during the winter. I had simply hoped to have him let me know when he might be in. The tirade went on, with my being told (repeatedly) as I said above. So I guess I'll need another resource unfortunately, as Ron really is an excellent mechanic, or at least I thought so. read more

I am surprised to read the bad reviews! Ron seems like a character, it's true, but he was kind and generous with his time and advice when I stopped by without an appointment to see if he could check out my Mini with a new, dreaded "check engine" light. Not what you want to see as you're heading into the mountains for a camping trip, miles from home (and car repair...), on vacation with a dog riding shotgun in a packed car. Ron checked it out for me, went beyond reading the error code to make sure all was well... then sent me off with a "no charge... enjoy your time in the mountains." I had many issues with my Range Rover and spoke to Ron on the phone and I have never talked to somebody so knowledgeable and so willing to try to help. When I moved to Oregon last year I went to another place that totally I spent thousands of dollars on the car . The car actually ran worse after I got it back so I had nothing but issues with it. After the car got finally got to Ron he kept me fully informed even though I know how busy he was. I decided to sell the car and he was able to fix it at a minimum charge and my headaches are finally over . Called looking to get my Benz taken care of. Ron answered and then hung up on me before breathing on the line like a creep for 30 seconds. I called back confused wondering if maybe he was having technical difficulties. Ron answered again super rudely. He referred to me by my name, which I hadn't given him. I assume it showed up on caller id and he didn't just look up my number or something (I hope). Anyway, he was extremely dismissive, and said my information is very confusing and LOOKS unpleasant. I had only given him the make, model and year, so I do not know what he meant by any of that. He was extremely aggressive and sounded like he was genuinely angry with me when I just wanted to inquire about some service. The second call ended with being hung up on a second time. Ron clearly has some mental health issues. Would give zero stars if I could. read more

I understand the pressures of running a business as I am a small business owner whom with only two employees wears a lot of hats. Even in times where we we are under pressure I have never yelled profanity at my clients, given off physically intimidating and scary warning signs to clients, or told a customer "I don't have time to deal with this". During the entire event I was patient with you because it was evident that you were not in the right mindset and I tried look for ways to find a resolution to our problem (which I am still confused why scheduling a key fob programming would be "problem" as another Bend shop programmed it in 5 minutes for me...). I am also confused as to why you escalated this to the level that it was since I literally just asked you (one time not three Ron) if an employee could wait there during the process. Simply put your behavior was out of control and unacceptable towards another human and especially someone who wanted to engage in commerce with your business and was willing to trade you money for service. Honestly, after my employee was physically intimidated by you the police should have been called. I encourage you to really take a hard look at the way you treat and interpersonally communicate with your clientele. Hopefully you can better yourself and your business. Best of luck. read more

New to Bend and having a MINI Countryman nearing warranty expiration, I wanted to find a highly skilled, knowledgeable independent mechanic in Bend, because the nearest MINI dealership is in Portland plus I really like to support small businesses. I called the local BMW dealership and after speaking with super nice Steve in the service department at the BMW Dealership, he suggested I contact Ron at Auto Haus because I wanted to have someone who had the diagnostic equipment for my MINI. I read the other reviews before setting my appointment and decided to take a leap of faith with Steve's recommendation and so glad I did! Also, on the Google reviews, I could see that Ron had taken the time to respond to the negative reviews and his responses came across as honest. I had a simple oil change but Ron was professional, polite and did what he said he'd do. And he patiently answered my questions. My car was done on time and in the ballpark estimate, no glitches. It was clear to see that he's a busy mechanic and is a one-man shop, so I can see it's important to respect his time and schedule. I like that Ron is passionate and knowledgeable about German cars. He was transparent with me about dealer part costs and he didn't try to upsell me or tell me I needed additional work or repairs. He said the newer MINIs were so well-made that he'd not expect to see me much except for oil changes. I'm so happy to have found a competent mechanic and hope to get my MINI serviced with him for years to come. Ron is most definitely the worst car repairman I've ever contacted. It is understood that he is running the entire operation by himself, but that does not warrant his disrespectful reply. I called with a question to see if he could help with my BMW, but his responses were aggressive and rude. I very much hoped to work with a great mechanic, but he proved himself wrong. Called about diagnosing a start issue with my volvo, and wanted to bring it in to him. He promptly interrupted me and said "so just because your talking ahead of me makes you think i'm going to help you? I have limited space for new customers." I Was Stunned. I simply wanted some advice, and wanted to GIVE him business. I've heard good word of mouth from this guy, however my experience on the phone with him proved otherwise. If your going to run a business, have some freaking customer service. This guy was absolutely rude, and I just wanted to fix my car, and looking for someone with volvo knowledge to do so. AVOID THIS PLACE! I took my Benz in because of a noise in the front. He said it was most likely a sway bar (it wasnt). Sounded right so I had him replace it. While he had it to replace the sway bar that wasnt bad, i also asked him to look it over for other things that might need attention. When i picked it up that evening, we discussed some other maintenance items he identified and he said he would give me a list and estimated costs and would call me. We played phone tag a couple times, so I when I was driving by I stop in to make an appointment for the other items. When I pulled up and he saw me he started throwing stuff. I thought that maybe he was having a bad day or possibly had busted his knuckles or something. I soon realized he was infuriated at me because I dropped in. Even though he has an open sign he said he doesn't allow drop ins. He was breathing heavy, and acting erratic. His actions made me get out of there as fast as I could. As a business owner that deals with the pubic daily I know the importance of that interface between the customer and the service we offer. Not all customers are the same... some are demanding. Some are easy going. And some are just in need. That was my plight when I stopped by Auto Haus. I was experiencing serious mechanical trouble while moving a very rare exotic car through the area. I was referred to Auto Haus by a local shop that warned me up front of the nature of the owner but when I got there, wow. Rude doesn't begin to describe it. We're talking raised voice, slamming door in my face and not even taking a second to listen to the issue or try and refer me to someone that could help me. I was on the verge of being stranded and Ron couldn't even take a moment to guide me towards a solution. Words a lot worse then "jerk" sprang to mind and then I thought, wow, this person can't even recognize a fellow human in need. I can't imagine what it must be like to work for him. Whether he is a competent Merc/BMW mechanic or not, he was not there for me when I needed him and that is really the first rule of being a auto mechanic. I should know. I am one by trade. It is like a hippocratic oath... it is an unspoken thing for us "car people". Porsche of Bend stepped up to the plate and found the issue in 15 minutes, got $100 for their trouble and a big write-up on one of the most influential car sites on the net. Absolute HORRIBLE experience with the owner!! Stopped by to see if I could schedule an appointment to have a bulb changed in my mini cooper and although the times are clearly marked on the door, the owner sat there and watched me knock at the door to receive service. He finally gets up annoyed and tells me he's too busy "Look at all those vehicles out there, do you think I have time to change a bulb?!" My daughter and I were shocked with this type of response. As I left, I muttered under my breath, "wow, great customer service" and the owner came running behind me calling me a _itch. After believing that Bend had no jerks, this guy proved me wrong. I was in shock and dismay that a business owner treats potential clients like this. Obviously the poor guy needs some help or a serious long vacation. Maybe retirement. The happy ending of the story is I went down the street to German Master Tech and was happily greeted and taken care of right away. I didn't even need to make an appointment. They knew the hazard of having no headlight and saw a potential long term client. Now that's smart business!! read more

I'm sure he is a very good mechanic. I would say he has zero tolerance for any way but his way, or for anyone wasting a minute of his time. The Volvo guy sounds right on. If you go in with the idea you are buying his skill, and not his chatty personality, I expect you would be very satisfied. The two stars are not related to his tech skills. read more
