They saved me with a post-purchase inspection on a car that would have been a money pit. Getting that done on short notice allowed me to undo the deal within the 3 days per the sales contract. Definitely would not go here is you are younger or have a wrenched in you car yourself. I took my 60 BMW in for misfire problems. They told me it was simply spark plugs after I told them I've been through spark plugs, coil packs and the whole fuel system. Later on down the road, I get news that it is timing issues and has nothing to do with spark at all. I just wish they would have taken me a little more seriously. read more

This shop has vintage German automobiles in their waiting room for display and MANY in their advertising but funny enough they don't work on them. I went in to get a tuneup on my 1980 Porsche and was told by the manager that they had "distanced" themselves from older vehicles. I am assuming they don't work on anything that doesn't have an ODBII port(mid-90s+) because their mechanics don't know how to troubleshoot and evaluate issues, they just plug it in and do what the computer tells them. Regardless, they need to get that old Mercedes out of the waiting room and all of the vintage Porsche pictures out of their advertising if they refuse to work on them. read more

In the binder of old receipts; I found one from German Master Tech from 2017 that read: 6/2017 "Customer states replace front brakes and perform oil service. Checked and found brakes not needing replaced. Performed oil service......" Based on that comment alone; I'd trust these guys with my car anyday of the week. read more

Really happy with this place so far. My wife has an Audi Q7, an expensive car with expensive dealerships who like to charge expensive prices for minimal services. If you get a car like that, one of the first things you should do is find a completely trustworthy local specialist, who isn't a dealer. I had this place recommended to me by the chap who delivered me my car, and he wasn't wrong. I've had one service done, and the work was done quickly and well, and I needed a diagnosis done on a fault I was able to vaguely describe, and they troubleshot it quickly and send me a good summary of what was needed to put it right. I authorized that work (a few weeks later - they needed to get the part), and they did the change again, quickly and at a fair price. I've only been there a couple of times, and already I really trust them to be straight with me. Highly recommended. read more

It's taking me several years to get over the trauma of this business. I had a BMW that was having issues stalling. At first they completed a fix, and it worked briefly. Then the 2nd time, I had it towed again, they blew the starter trying to fix the electrical, I suggested to them to replace the wiring harness, they didn't. The third time I specifically told them to replace the wiring harness. I had read several hours on multiple forums, and this is the issue that kept coming up. They blew the alternator and the starter before they finally replaced the harness, and voila, no more issues. They cost me thousands, patronized me, mansplained me, and the one thing I wanted them to do from the beginning fixed it in the end. The owner is a piece of work, tries to come off charming towards women, yet dismissive. read more

I am not the one to usually leave reviews on business but I felt inclined to give German master tech my honest review following my recent service. I have a couple of cars of varying age and they have worked on both for my whole time as a customer. While they did work on my older vehicle a lot in the past, I know they're restoration technician has recently retired which has led them to not work on as much in the older age range. However, that does not take away from the amazing service and experience they provide each and every time I go in. The amount of goodwill I have been shown on various occasions is enough to warrant 5 stars, yet 5 still doesn't seem enough for how good they are. I find it hard to believe that they could ever offer anything less than a 5 star experience. For as long as I own German vehicles I will be an avid German master tech supporter. read more

Very pleased with the outcome here. We had GMT repair a couple neglected items. They got right on them and did a great job. We went to take the car home and it didn't sound the same as when we brought it in. We brought the car back, they got it up on the rack and went to work looking for the noise. Avoid German Master Tech......Yeah. One star. Because I had to give them 1 star. It really skews their number to the high side. I've been going to this place for a few years. Seemed to have a pretty good experience except I thought the place was a little pricey. I bought a new (to us) car - a 2008 ML 350. The car had a few minor things I wanted them to look at. So I took the car to them on 12/31/2015 with a short list of odds and ends that needed to be looked at. The short list became a bill for $ 341.00 with only a couple of times on the list fixed. Along with a $ 2,000 + bid to repair the other items. When I was called after they looked at the car, they had a bid for over $ 2000 to repair it. I just couldn't afford that and told them no on the other repairs. So they gave me a bill for $ 341.00, I paid it and went on with my life as usual. I came across their deceit by accident. One item on the the list that stood out is the drivers side tail light had a "bulb out" message on the dash. This was on the list I gave to GMT in the morning. The tail light was working all except the upper part of the light which holds the brake light, was not working. On the bid to fix the light it says - Quote - " Found L/R housing melted beyond repair. " I didn't have the money to have the light replaced for $ 384.00 as on his bid. And other than the top layer of the light, it worked. The lower side brake, running light and turn signal worked. So I went home and looked up the light found one online and ordered one for $ 84.95 on amazon. It came today, so I went to work. 15 minutes after I started, the light was changed and the car was back together. Literally 15 minutes from start to finish from a guy who is not skilled at all on how to change a whole light housing on a 2008 ML 350. After examining the light housing expecting to find signs of melting or fire or a short, I found none of that. Absolutely no damage what so ever and certainly not " melted beyond repair" as in mechanics notes on my bill. What I did find was one burnt out light bulb that costs less than $ 5.00. I didn't need a light housing. Nothing was damaged. I needed a $ 5 light bulb..... If thats what it even cost. I've now changed my mind about German Master Tech. This is a bad company with a bad owner and a bad service writer or a bad mechanic who would try to sell me an $ 84.95 light for $ 384 when what I really needed was a $ 5 light bulb. In my experience you should avoid this company. Tim, Scott and whomever told them my light was "melted beyond repair" don't deserve your business. They take advantage if they can. How often do you LOVE the place that maintains your car? Well, for me it's been pretty darn rare. LIKE is hard enough. TOLERATE is not exactly easy to come by. If you are not somebody who is thrilled by taking your car, whatever age, to the dealership shop, you really need to talk to owner Tim Morris or one of his people. I am not a car snob but I am a bit of a tech guy and I like to be informed about my car maintenance and pretty strongly dislike the typical car dealer approach to maintenance where constant vigilance is needed to keep from getting taken to the cleaners. This is not a shop where you talk to a "service writer" and the car disappears until it returns with a sizable bill. They love to talk about what's on your mind. They welcome you into the shop if you want to see what's going on. The shop is SPOTLESS and speaks volumes about how detail oriented they are. These folks don't just love cars, they are really, really good at what they do, and they don't look at their customers as an opportunity to extract payment for unnecessary work. We bought a 10 year old Porsche from a friend (who did his own oil changes and not much else while he had it ) and had GMT look it over. Other than replacing a few broken or missing trim parts (very reasonably) the ongoing service has been extremely reasonable, where the dealer quoted us a 4-figure sum sight-unseen based on age and (low) miles only for a "major service". Despite their name, GMT people have a soft spot for Toyota Land Cruisers and when I heard this I ended up buying one, and they have serviced it (and another Toyota SUV) quite efficiently. It's not uncommon to see non-European cars around the shop, although obviously European is the main theme. A great way to judge the character of a business, IMHO, is how they deal with things that don't go as expected. On one of the (fairly high mileage) Toyotas, the time came for a major brake job, which was performed painlessly and at a reasonable price, but without replacing some components they judged were still quite serviceable. A few months later the brakes started vibrating. I took it back in and described the situation, pointed out the past work, and asked them to check it out, stressing I was not complaining about the past work, and with a confession by me that the car had been driven several miles with the E-brake on with ensuing smoke from the brakes. It came back with all new parts and what I thought was a way to generous discount. (Mind you, with no prompting from me.) Yes, as a previous commenter noted, these folks work on expensive European cars as their bread-and-butter. They work on show cars. They always have a number of incredibly gorgeous, perfectly restored cars sitting in their reception area. I can see how this might be a bit intimidating to someone showing up with an old, not exactly pristine, daily driver. But these people are friendly and entirely different from the service staff you'll find at the snooty luxury Euro dealerships. I have worked with some nice shops before moving to Central Oregon, and tolerated dealer service operations when needed. But this is the first time I have felt that I have a "car guy" (Tim) who I can ask about anything and simply trust that the answer is honest, informed, and reliable, and who is actually HAPPY if I question an issue because I want to be informed. I recently purchased a beautiful 2005 Mercedes SLK55 AMG. After taking it to the Mercedes dealer to get the oil changed, I inquired about where to have some performance upgrades installed. The service manager at Mercedes strongly recommended German Master Tech. I figured, "okay, here's a service department recommending another shop!" (That's a pretty powerful testimonial). One of the businesses I own has a fleet of vans, so I inquired to the owner of the shop where I get the vans maintained if he could do the upgrade, and he said: "We could probably do it, but you're best option is to take it to German Master Tech." Needless to say, I took my Mercedes to German Master Tech. lol Upon arriving at GMT and talking with the owner Tim, I knew I'd made the right choice. Tim is a unique blend of endless knowledge and upbeat personality. It was like taking your kid to a daycare where the staff absolutely loves children. This summer we drove through Bend on a road trip and the airbag light on our borrowed BMW station wagon came on. There wasn't much time and the kids were in the car and tired. They put the diagnostic machine to it and found out it was an electrical fault (of course on a Beemer) and reset it. Said if it goes off again- get it checked at my local guy. He gave me the the full diagnostic print out of the car's stats and that was that. No bill! No charge! Just- "have a great trip" Professional, courteous and just darn nice. read more

They have worked on our cars numerous times and have always been upfront communicators on what's needed, options and costs. How is it they make you and your vehicles feel so special? Amazingly helpful! My Mini was having engine trouble shortly after leaving Boise for home, in Eugene. I was able to make to Bend, but really didn't want to take a chance on the rest of the drive. We took my Audi A6 into German master tech due to a check engine light on. We were quoted 120 an hour to diagnose and fix said problem. We stayed in bend as we live in Redmond. We got a call not an hour later from Scott stating the car was fixed and we could pick it up at anytime. Upon picking up the car Scott bragged about how it only took him a mere 10 to 15 min to plug a part back in. Talking to me and my friend as if we were idiots because we are woman and must not know anything he's talking about. We paid took the car and left not but three to four days later the check engine light came on again. So instead of fixing the issue of a piece coming unplugged which wouldn't just naturally happen they just plugged it back in and it came unplugged again meaning the part needed to be replaced I don't think it takes a male or a female to know that their mere 10 or 15 minutes of $120 an hour probably should have had a little bit more effort put into it. There was communication back and forth from the seller of the vehicle and me that he had talked to the owner Tim and he was going to resolve the issue. Upon speaking to Tim for the first time I informed him that that is my only vehicle and I could not have it gone for more than a day. I explained to him that after bringing it there and taking time off of work I wouldn't be able to be without my vehicle again and that it was inconvenience to me. He stated that they don't have any loaner cars and asked if the seller of my vehicle would be willing to loan me one of their vehicles. I told him I felt like that was very unprofessional that I would never ask somebody else to loan me a vehicle when this was their issue at German Master Tech to resolve not the seller of my vehicle. He explained how inconvenient it would be for them to come back and forth to Redmond three to four separate times to fix my vehicle. I explained to him that when I had my car fixed to the first time from them they left a very important expensive part in my car and someone came to Redmond twice to retrieve that part the first time me not being home. He said that he could try and see if he could get me an Uber or a taxi but that that was the most he could do. I really feel like the level of professionalism at a place where you pay a lot of money to get your car fixed is absolutely ridiculous. In any business if you don't fix something right the first time you always make every attempt to fix it and make it right. After 15 minutes of arguing back and forth on the phone with Tim for the 2nd time he told me he would come to some sort of resolution and I have never heard back from him I still have a vehicle with a check engine light on that lags and isn't a hundred percent safe to drive, now I will have to take it to a different place to pay more money to have them fix something that German Master Tech bragged took them only 15 minutes but they didn't even fix it right the first time. In the past I've had better customer service from roadside car dealerships and garage mechanics then I did with someone who works on high-end vehicles and owns a business in a small community. Word travels fast and it's unfortunate that they could not right they're wrong. I wish I would have read the reviews before bringing my vehicle to them, I would have known not to bring my Audi there. read more

I had an inspection and oil change in June of 2012. I was informed after the service was completed that the oil pan plug threads were stripped. I wasn't smart enough to ask more questions at that time. I moved from Sunriver, Oregon to Boulder, Colorado. In July of 2013, I took my Mini Cooper in for a service. German Master Tech had attached the oil plug with silicon! I contacted my previous (to GMT) repair shop in Portland, Oregon and GMT saying that one of them stripped the threads on the pan. I asked for $300 as that was the cost of the new pan. My Portland shop, though saying they didn't think they were responsible, sent me a check for $150. I sent that info to GMT asking them to pay me $150 as well. GMT absolutely refuses to accept the fact that they may have been responsible. I didn't know they were granted infallibility by divine right. BE CAREFUL about using this shop. They talk a great game, but don't follow accept any responsibility for their actions. read more

I have a 2004 BMW X3 that was dealer maintained for many years. The dealership did a great job...but were just too expensive after the service warranty ran out. While trying to diagnose a vacuum seal leak, a local shop recommended German Master Tech. Tim and crew were able to diagnose/solve the problem quickly and cost effectively.
