There's only three types of businesses that put me on the defense, Used Car dealers, Furniture stores, and Jewelry stores. My daughter called me to tell me that she was going to see a car at Auto Star Motors and her appointment was with Steve. My "Spidey Sense" was tingling and I was on a Star Trek "Red Alert". I did a Google search, followed by some review of the model and make on Kelly Blue Book, then to Car Fax. I was prepared for the showdown. We arrived on time and let Steve finish with his previous appointment. The office is clean, neat, professional looking. We didn't get that sleazy used car dealer feeling which was a positive first impression. The car, a Subaru Crosstrek looked good and we took it for a drive in the chilly December evening. I talked to my daughter and asked what type of down payment was she going to propose. She had a plan but I was still on the defense. So many stories of customers getting screwed from used cars dealers and I have had my own personal experiences with my brother in law right here in Boise. We get back and it's time for 'Let's make a deal' The good news is that the car looked and performed well. The car fax info matched what I saw online earlier and the price was good. My daughter's trade in was on its last two wheels but Steve wanted to check it out and after his test drive, I was thankful he was still alive. He was more than up front and generous with trade in value of her car and she had some cash to put down. While I was feeling a little better about Auto Star Motors and Steve, I wasn't completely convinced. I showed Steve some of the Yelp reviews and I wanted him to provide some context. He was very transparent throughout which I appreciated. It was at that point that I told my daughter that even though I was feeling better about this whole process that she would wait until she had some more money for a down payment. I explained to Steve why I felt that and my overall concern for my daughter. It was at this point that we talked like two Dads sitting at a coffee shop. He was open, genuine and reassuring. Not once did I feel that we were getting bamboozled. I relayed my concerns and trepidations and Steve was receptive and made the efforts to understand my concerns and assured me that my daughter would be taken care of. I went home to get to the title for her jalopy aka death trip and returned back at the office. The financing was done through Capital One and my daughter knows that if she has any issues she can bring the car back to Steve and his team at Auto Star I purposely waiting to do this review almost 30 days to see how the car performs and to make sure that there weren't any issues. I'm glad to report that there hasn't been a single issue with the car or with Auto Star Motors. The experience with Steve was not a battle that I prepared for but instead was two guys who had a common goal of making sure that my daughter was safe and not getting a bad deal. Came in today and was treated horribly. Started with me parking and looking at a few cars in the lot to see what they had, but I had a few in mind that I wanted to look at. But the whole time I was looking at some of the cars on the lot the salesman inside the building was watching with a judgmental look on his face. I was looking for a car to upgrade to (From a 35k car to a 45k car) Not a big jump and nothing in Porsche and Corvette range. Salesman came out but did not introduce himself, just came out and watched a bit until I walked up to him and introduced myself. I had asked him about looking at a BMW so that I can see if I can fit in it for when I would like to purchase the car he didn't say much, so I asked again if he might be able to unlock it so that I can sit inside. He proceeded to go inside and grab the key, unlocked it and let me sit in the car. As I got out, he didn't ask me about the car or if I liked it, he just locked it and looked at me. Then I asked him about a Jaguar on the lot that I was interested in, he then proceeded to say "This is the only other one I am going to let you look at." Who says that at a dealership? Did I look too young? Did he assume I wouldn't be able to buy the car? Either way, he went inside, didn't say anything after that, and unlocked the car. I got inside, liked the car, but when I got out, he started a conversation for the first time. He started saying their opening time and what days they were open (I was there 2 hours before they close, I wasn't wasting their time) and was telling me that if I ever happen to come back they might have other cars. But not once did I say I was done looking at cars, he just didn't think I was worth the time. He was very short when I asked questions about maintenance and said things like "Well, all cars have maintenance." As if I was dumb, I just wanted to know if there was any special things I would have to look at before I bought the car, maybe changing belts, chains, or sensors. I decided he wasn't worth my time as a customer and walked away. 0/5 Stars, horrible service. read more

I am super pleased with the gorgeous ride that I picked up from Auto Star Motors. Steve and his staff were super patient as I'm a very particular buyer. They provided numerous walk-around videos for an extremely detailed review of the car's condition, along with an additional FaceTime review. I'm a remote buyer and they fully understood my concerns over condition of the car since I couldn't view it in person or test drive it. DO NOT BUY FROM HERE, they will completely screw you over the truck i bought is on its 5th check engine light since the 2 months i bought it and they will "fix it". When you call them out about it still being broken they will become very aggressive and extremely unprofessional. If I could give them 0 stars I would. This lot is so dishonest and shady. They sold me a total lemon told us it was super clean. We've only had it for not even 5 months the head gasket blew and blamed it on my daughter. They covered some but we were out of a car for a week. We get it back sign a good faith note, and 3 weeks later it starts overheating again. My dad replaced the thermostat which helped for about 3 weeks until; you guessed it, it overheated AGAIN. This time we took it into a shop. When they took a look at it they reported that whoever did the work on the head gasket did a scary bad job. They took pictures and told me to take it back and demand it be fixed. I can't take it back and demand anything so, I'm here warning you all... DO NOT BUY ANYTHING FROM THIS PLACE! read more

This lot had a good looking vehicle that we were interested in so we went to check it out. After a test drive we spoke with the salesman about our situation. We were already pre-qualified through our cu for 25k, zero down and term depending on the year of vehicle. He said "your bank is punishing you for buying an older vehicle but I can get you a better deal through one of my lenders." We decided to see what he could offer. Turns out he couldn't do better as his lenders all needed a large down and monthly payments were more. We took the vehicle info to our lender who said it was priced 6k over msrp which they would still lend on but it would leave us owingmore than it was worth. We really liked it so called the dealer to negotiate the price. The salesman seemed adamant that his lender was better and ignored when we kept saying we were staying with our lender and just wanted to discuss the price. He finally acknowledged our desire to negotiate and offered to drop it $100 if we used our lender. $500 if we used his. Then he offered to help move all our banking to his lender!! What??? At that point we gave up. Turns out we located the exact same vehicle, year, make and model from the original owner that was 5k less and had 10k less miles on it. Granted we had a day's drive to retrieve it but it was well worth it to save 5k on a vehicle that had full history from a seller who was very honest and transparent. My DIL wrote a review on Google and once posted the salesman proceeded to call me and then my son inquiring about the review, which neither of us were aware of at the time. He then left a pretty snarky response to her review. I wasn't going to bother leaving a review but this guy was so bizarre I decided I should. I would be very cautious if you're considering a car from this lot. Something isn't quite right here. read more
