Our garage door had been acting finicky; sometimes opening all the way but more and more often not. Mark, the owner gave us 2 options and estimates and then a 3rd that he encouraged us to do. Oil the parts, tighten the tension, and my old door works again. No cost at all to us. He wouldn't even take a tip because he is the owner. Called to have service for a broken spring. They quoted $485 saying both springs would need to be fixed. Called around to price... We had an old style swing door that was on the verge of becoming an accident. Filled out their online form for an estimate on a new door. Was called the next and had a scheduled visit booked for the next day. The next day someone came out, took measurements, went over options, explained wait time for certain designs, colors, and options. We wanted simple and nothing special. Off the top of his head, the guy believed it was in stock and can be installed within a week. He gave me a quote to replace the door, rewire everything, rehang the motor, and make it look nice and neat. The old door had a band new motor installed, but the previous owner did a sloppy job in putting it together. The following day I received the actual quote in writing and approved it. About five days later, I was called and had an appointment for the new door to be installed the next day. Two guys came out at 830 am, removed the door, and started the new track and door panel installation. They finished those pieces by about 3 pm. They sent someone out the next day to finish installing the track, level everything, rehang the motor, redo all the wiring, and make it look beautiful. He started at 8 am and finished around noon. It was night and day with the work they did. All the bad things about the garage door were swept away from the parts they used, and the quality of work they do. Literally within one week i went from a phone call tea brand new door installed at an affordable price. Quick tip I learned from the initial guy who came out. Because of the part of SF we live in, we get an ocean breeze, he recommended we put a single layer of car wax on the door to keep it from rusting and oxidizing. Who else is thorough like that in home construction? You won't be disappointed in this team. read more

Great experience on multiple levels -- scheduling, installation, repair, and customer service. Nick installed our garage door motor in 2011 and made our door move way smoother than before. Then our door was recently damaged whereby it wasn't fully closing all the way down and moved kind of wonky (damage by someone else). Nick quickly served the track, the motor, the rails and got her in proper working order quickly. He was very courteous and conscientious. He even offered to change the lightbulbs in the motor too. Ours was a challenging installation. The garage door frame of our 100-year-old home was visibly out of plumb. The estimator Mark and the installer Manolo came out to see what would be involved. Both guys were unfailingly nice and thoroughly explained what they would do. Installation went fine, over two days. They cleaned up after their work and carted everything away. The cedar doors themselves are things of beauty. I keep going back outside to admire them. The technological sophistication of the motor controls is impressive, and very safety-oriented. We just got the standard opener package, but it seems deluxe (especially in relation to where we started, which was with no opener at all.) Now the garage door's appearance nicely matches that of the front door and I feel that I've added to the beauty and functionality of the house above and beyond what the job cost. read more

I just received the most incredible service imaginable from Mark at AGD and now have a fully functioning garage door again...at no cost. Our garage door malfunctioned this morning and I called AGD first, as it was the company listed on our motor. I left a voicemail then called a couple other companies with good reviews on Yelp. When Mark at AGD called me back, he said he could come over immediately and was also the first person to ask detailed questions about what was going on (sounds, whether it worked manually, etc.). It was by for the productive conversation and things only got better from there. Mark arrived within 30 minutes and found that one of the sensor eyes had been banged into and severely bent. This is apparently pretty unusual as the sensors are quite sturdy but he as able to bend it back into place and didn't charge me a penny. Not only that, he quickly WD-40ed and tightened all parts, and gave me lessons on general maintenance and manual operation of the door. I've been in charge of repairs for our 3-unit condo building for a couple years and this was the best service I've received, and not only because it was free of charge. Mark was incredibly knowledgeable and pleasant to work with. I will definitely use him for any future garage door needs and recommend him highly. read more

I bought my house back in '03, it was your standard small SF house, under 1000 sq ft with 2 pull open garage doors that were water logged and near impossible to open so a body could squeeze in, let alone my car. I took those off and replace it was a CL manual 4 panel roll up. It was very cheap but the spring hadn't much torque left so it was hard to open, and you could only open from the inside, etc. So I started looking a couple weeks ago to replace it with a nice new door, home depot and lowes were around 800-1000 for a STANDARD single car garage door. Well, nothing in SF is standard. So I scrapped that, then I found 3 companies and called to get their feedback, namely, can you do it and for how much? Well, Automatic Garage Door came in the highest, so I asked why? They explained very honestly what I was getting: a CUSTOM door (not 8'x7', rather 8'x6'6") so I needed a specially sized door, plus moldings, as well as many other things that I had overlooked, like infra red sensors -so if the door is closing, it stops if my kids foot or bike gets in the way, a mail slot with a mail bag, a glazed window, vents at the bottom so the door is legal in SF, rubber seal at the bottom, a very quite motor, 2 remotes, a keypad, & a central system. When I asked the others about their low prices, and my CUSTOM door, the price kept going up as I asked about the things that Automatic Garage Door had put into the estimate (they were going to leave these features out!!), to the point that it was a couple hundred dollars less than their offer. Well, that helped me make my mind up on WHO was my 1st choice. Well, I am happy to say that I made a good choice! Mark sent out his best man, Manolo, who did an outstanding job! He didn't stand around wasting time, he worked very efficiently and provided quality work! I'm very pleased with the final outcome, the door works beautifully, very quiet, and can be accessed from inside and outside via remote, keypad or central system. Not only does my 3/4 horsepower garage door opener make me feel like a princess, it was installed by Automatic Garage Door with the utmost professionalism. The opener has features I did not even know I wanted or needed but now that I have them, I can see why this company only installs the best. I was 9 months pregnant when we moved into our new home (our first home purchase). Not only was money a concern but i was beyond stressed to get everything done before my baby came. Once it was clear he and team could offer superior service and hardware, we quickly made arrangements and within 24 hours the full job was done (we needed the 20 year-old motor and remotes replaced). Had an issue with a brand new Chamberlain garage door opener that I had purchased and installed myself. After several rounds with Chamberlain's tech support, with them sending replacement components and installing them myself without fixing the issue, they offered to send out a technician from Automatic Garage Door. Got attitude from the technician almost from the get-go. Considered the issue an "insignificant" feature and didn't have any suggestions on fixing it. When he realized that this wasn't just a free estimate visit, that Chamberlain was paying for a service call, he became slightly more engaged. He replaced a part (making that the 3rd replacement), proclaimed the problem fixed, with the caveat that if it it didn't fix it, he had nothing further to offer. Well, it ain't fixed, it's the same as it ever was. Since the tech made it clear that he had nothing further to offer, I don't see any reason to follow up with them, now or for any future needs. If you like your service tech's with attitude, call these guys. If not, try elsewhere. Edit: I finally fixed the problem. Damned if I'd tell them the fix. read more

Our 20-year-old door opener was broken. Automatic Garage Door came out the NEXT MORNING to inspect and give an estimate and diagnosis... and then they offered to the installation of the replacement system the NEXT business day--when we were out of town! They kept us in the loop throughout. Communications were excellent. And we came home to find a brand-new, incredibly smooth and silent system, with upgraded electronics. This was my go to company whenever I had any issues with my garage doors, but my recent experience wasn't great. I'm not sure if they are under new ownership or are experiencing difficulties with the Covid lockdowns. I called them about a dying back up battery. Since I had just had it replaced last year, I was a bit shocked that it was already needing a change. I called the company on a Friday, the receptionist was kind and told me that she needed to speak to her boss, that it did seem a bit odd that the battery was already dying, that he would call back. Come Tuesday, I still hadn't received a call, and the back up was beeping like crazy so I called them. This time another person answered the phone. She acknowledged my previous call, then proceeded to tell me that perhaps my opener was running on the battery the whole time/power was out. Told her that is not the case. Then she tells me the the battery is only good for a year... This seemed strange to me as they installed the opener in 2008 for me with a battery, and it was good up until last year. Regardless, I wanted someone to come out and install a new one. Rather than make an appointment, she tells me that they sell the battery, that i can replace it myself. I can come to their shop and pick up the battery, which, they charge $60. No offer to have anyone come out and change it out. Got off the phone, did a bit of research on youtube, found that i could do it myself. Went to HomeDepot and got the same battery for $26!! That being said, not sure what's going on with this company, I hope it was just a bad week for them, that or i'm going to need to find another company to service my garage doors. read more

(20090623: They are supposed to come out tomorrow with a larger top panel.) I'm hoping these guys come through and I can raise my review. But the communication hasn't been very good following the installation of a door that appears to be too small. I thought that this would be a quality installation (they charge a bit more than most), but I've been disappointed. The door is too short and narrow. It doesn't quite cover the opening. I've had to use duct tape to keep people from seeing inside. Also, the promised taper of the bottom was not done. I believe this was skipped due to the door being too short If you believe their advertising in the Diamond Certified Directory and the Good Service Guide, these are good people. I'm hoping that they're just so busy because business is good that they forget to call. read more

I called to have my Genie garage door opener replaced. They don't sell Genie. They do offer LiftMaster and the estimate was $725. I went to homedepot.com/garagedoors and purchased an premium Genie garage door opener including installation for less than half the price. They sounded very unprofessional on the phone. read more

I used these guys many years ago and they were quirky but cheap and excellent - they have a new owner and have moved location. The old owner would repair things - NOT THESE GUYS - they want to replace things. They were nice and responsive, so they got an extra star on my rating even though I dont like their kind of tactics. When the guy arrived, he immediately told me that I had an old unit and that "nobody" could fix it. He then quickly told me everything that was wrong with that type of unit and offered to write me a quote for a new unit. He wrote the quote and then moved into sales mode. The price was almost $700 + tax! I called another of the top rated companies on here - the guy came right away, got a couple of parts, fixed my old unit, tightened up everything. total cost was under $140!!! Beware of this company unless you like to replace perfectly adequate equipment. read more

I normally don't like to give bad reviews but this company is inefficient and very rude. Lots of attitude even before giving a quote. Had a time slot of 2-4pm but the estimator (could be the owner) calls at noon saying I need to get in there otherwise can't come today. Then I call to schedule for the following week but never get a confirmation call back. Anyway, I let it slide giving them the benefit of the doubt. After trying to schedule several times over a month, the estimator finally arrived with an attitude. Not to mention his unprofessional rude behavior on the phone. When I asked him, this is the area where the door needs to be installed...he rudely tells me how ? How can it be installed here?? I had 2 other guys give me a quote so not sure what he was talking about. As if I'm supposed to explain his job to him...I've dealt with several contractors and garage door people but this guy seemed to have an attitude as if he is the customer. They need to learn customer service. Also, this wasn't gonna be a small job...it was for a commercial garage door. We needed installation and purchase of a brand new door. Bottom line: waste of time, no quote and attitude for no reason. read more

11/14/2013, Nic came and replaced only right side of our two car garage door spring coils. This is a Duplex rental unit in Millbrae. Now that the left side coil spring was broken earlier today. I had to call another garage door company to replace both spring coil. Automatic Garage Door should really replace both sides of spring coil at that time. read more
