Wow, what a total nightmare. We had hit a big hold in the road & it damaged our brakes (ABS). We took our vehicle for repair to this shop. My husband had done his research & told the owner what he thought the problem was. Owner says no, it's something else. They replace the master cyclinder & it does not fix the problem. $650+. So we have to take it back, & he replaces the part, my husband had told him(ABS), & charges us another $662. NO CREDIT FOR LABOR FOR PUTTING IN THE WRONG PART. Says it's part of the process. I took my Buick in because the check engine light was on. After three days I got a call that the car was ready. After two days of driving the car, the check engine light came back on. So, I took it back and after keeping the car another two days, I was told that the gas cap was the issue and that it had been replaced. I picked up the car and again after a couple of days the check engine light was back on. I was charged for the gas cap even though that was clearly not the problem. I didn't bother taking the car back and will never use this shop again. They don't seem to know what they're doing. read more

When I moved to Bakersfield, by a friend's consideration, I took my vehicle to Automotive Engineering. That was 25 years ago and I have continued to bring vehicles to them. Every single time they repair, the vehicle is completely done, and I've never had to return for the same problem. However, what really told me was when the dealership told me I needed new brakes, so I took it to them instead, and they said my brakes was fine (70% lining remaining) and never charged for the inspection. When people ask me, I tell them where to take their vehicles. They also hire, in my experience, the best mechanics. read more

They did not do the original repair that needed a do over, but you would have thought I've been a customer for years. Nick is very honest and truly wants to do right by his customers. I had been having problems with my check engine light and had previously taken my car to a auto shop and was charged $1100 to fix the problem and my engine light was still on. I was referred to Automotive Engineering and boy was I happy. They not only fixed my engine light problem but the price of repairs were fair. I was only charged $245.00 and that included the diagnostic check. If you want the best for your car and not be taken advantage of then Automotive Engineering is the place you should chose. They are honest, honest, honest (I can't say that enough) and their prices are reasonable. Since my visit on yesterday I have already told 3 friends and now i'm informing you. My 10 year old car needed to be smogged this month. I was fortunate to buy a discount offered by Channel 17 for half price. The office told me to be sure I didn't need a STAR testing because they do not do them. I had just the basic testing. Today I went to look for the shop on Golden State Ave. It is between Chester and Union so easy to find. I went in to set up a time to get smogged and they were able to do it right then. It was one quick stop. The charge for the certificate was separate from my prepaid coupon, but they told me that up front before I bought it. I saved time and money. I dealt with very nice people who wanted me to get the right deal, the right procedure. Tonight I have been on line to register my car already ~ no line, to late fee, no worry. read more

We've been taking our vehicles since 20 years ago (Even when I've lived 40 miles away, I still take our vehicles there.), and except for emergencies (like when your waayyy out of town), we've always been customers of this excellent business (I've knows the father, who began the business, and his son has done an amazing job keeping the work excellent.). The biggest praise I can give is I've never had to take any vehicle back for the same work. Also, I remember taking my car in for a brake job 6 months after my dealer wanted to change them. The folks at Automotive Engineer explained I still had 70% of the lining left, they wondering why I came (As most drivers know, you go into a shop to change brakes, they change them even if they don't need changing. Not Automotive Engineer. They explained how much lining I still had and then I could decide whether to change or not. They only do what is best for you and what you ask for.). My hopes is the family keep this excellent business another 20 years, or at least until I can no longer drive. read more
