I don't write a lot of Yelp reviews, but I really wanted to recognize Kayla Williams at Comfort and…read moreThrive. My mother lives in an assisted living home, and there was some confusion over the paperwork for her brand-new wheelchair. I had spent quite a while on the phone with the head nurse, who assured me they had no paperwork and no proof that the new wheelchair we had purchased for my mother was even on the premises. Instead, I was told they believed she was using an older wheelchair that had been provided by hospice and that it had to be returned to hospice immediately. My heart just sank. I felt frustrated because I honestly felt like what I was saying wasn't being heard. I was being told they had paperwork that showed something completely different, and I started to feel defeated. Not only was I being told I might have to pay for the six months they believed my mother had been using the hospice wheelchair, but I was also being told I would need to purchase a new wheelchair for her. That was a huge financial double whammy, and I was honestly beside myself. When Kayla heard how upset I was, she didn't hesitate. She immediately jumped into action. She was calm, reassuring, and never made me feel like I was on my own. One phone call later, and in less than 20 minutes, the entire situation was resolved. The biggest thing I walked away with wasn't just that the problem got fixed. It was how Kayla made me feel. She made me feel taken care of. She made me feel protected. When you're trying to take care of an elderly parent, that kind of compassion means everything. Thank you, Kayla, for turning one of the most stressful days I've had in a long time into one with a happy ending. Comfort and Thrive is very fortunate to have you. And one last thing...please give this lady a raise. She absolutely deserves it.

My mom had previously been on hospice care with a different company and Comfort and Peace is head and shoulders superior to my previous experience. First of all, the speed of their responses and preparation for her discharge (over the holidays no less) was epic. I am so grateful for not only their responsiveness to us, but also the care and time they took to really get it right! They even helped me with facility placement recommendations Each function has been consistently responsive and communicative, as well. Nurse, social worker, etc. The team has directly contributed to my ability as a caregiver to function and deal with a difficult situation. No hesitation whatsoever giving my highest recommendation here

Rather than providing comfort and support, I found their care to be poorly coordinated, inadequately individualized, and at times clinically inappropriate. My sister had a complex medical history that included recurrent syncopal (fainting) episodes. Unfortunately, hospice staff repeatedly interpreted these episodes as signs that she was actively dying or "transitioning" without adequately reviewing her medical history or understanding her underlying condition. After one such episode, I received a call from a hospice representative through an out-of-state call center recommending that morphine be started immediately. There was no apparent clinical indication for morphine at that time, and the caller was unable to explain the rationale for the recommendation or answer basic questions. This was both unsettling and concerning. On another occasion, a hospice nurse recommended oral antibiotics for a suspected aspiration-related infection. At the time, my sister was unresponsive and not eating or drinking, making oral administration impractical. Concerned about the recommendation, I had her evaluated in the Emergency Department. No infection was found, no antibiotics were indicated, and her symptoms were ultimately attributed to another syncopal episode from which she later recovered. I was also told that all of my sister's oral medications should be discontinued, despite the fact that she was still taking medications orally and there was no clear clinical reason to stop them. This recommendation created unnecessary anxiety and confusion. The hospice chaplain's conduct was also unprofessional. Facility staff ultimately asked him not to return after he put his feet on a table and requested flowers that were being used for a resident activity. Several nurses at the care facility privately expressed concerns about the quality of hospice care they were observing and recommended that I consider changing hospice providers. By that point, my sister's condition had become increasingly unstable, and I felt that changing providers would only add more stress. She passed away later that week. What was perhaps most disappointing was the lack of follow-up after her death. Her primary hospice nurse never contacted me to offer condolences, answer questions, or provide support. As an advanced practice healthcare provider, I recognized a number of concerning issues that may not be apparent to families without medical training. Based on my experience, I cannot recommend this hospice organization.

Hadn't been even 48hours between the time I called them for help with my loved one before I was being raked across the coals for not having enough help by two people who had never met me or my loved one, talked to us, been to our house, investigated our situation, who felt obligated to tell me they had reported me to Adult Protective Services for not having enough help for my mother... yeah, let that catch-22 sink in. Reprehensible, illogical, irresponsible, and lacking in integrity. Not helping in diminishing my stresses but adding to them doesn't seem to track with "hospice" or "care". The only reason for 2 stars is because they sent out incontinence supplies. However they're the kind my Betsy Wetsie doll as a kid would have had a blow out in.

Even after all the help, advice and support they continue to call and check in long after my father's passing and provide emotional support if needed. They're amazing and I want to thank everyone that works with them for the wonderful job they did at such a hard time in my life.

I don't know where to start with my praise for Mission Hospice!…read more I knew about hospice but I thought it was reserved for those who are in the actively dying stage. Boy, was I wrong! If you take anything away from this review, please know that hospice can and should start early so that your loved one is comfortable...not just for the days before their death but for weeks or months. Anyway, my Dad had dementia and was living in a memory care facility. They didn't recommend hospice until Dad was in the actively dying stage (we didn't realize). They referred us to Mission Hospice on a Saturday and Dad passed away on Thursday. From the moment Zachary arrived to do the assessment, until my Dad passed away, our experience with Mission was everything we could have wanted during this stressful time. Within 1 hour of Zachary's assessment, Dad was set up with a hospital bed, oxygen, pain medications, etc. Zachary was very patient and thorough, asking questions and allowing us to share our experience even if it was too much information! We received a visit from the Social Worker, Susan, and I must say that she was a blessing. She really cared about my Dad, my family and our experience. She allowed us to laugh, cry and share our fears and regrets. I felt safe to really express my sorrow and cry for the first time since this final stage began. Next came Pastor Don....he arrived in our life at the perfect moment. In the midst of guilt and remorse he helped me see things from a different perspective. Could we have done things differently with Dad's care? Perhaps. But did we do the absolute best we could with what we knew? Absolutely! We received daily visits from RN's, all of which were concerned, caring and took the time to answer all our questions. As for expenses, Mission handled all the paperwork with Medicare so we didn't have to do anything. If you are thinking about hospice but you're not sure if it's the right time, call Mission to talk it through. Don't rely on the hospital or the doctor or the care staff to bring it up...be proactive. I wish we had started sooner. Thank you Mission, for helping my Dad have a peaceful passing!

She didn't want to have to move into an institution and I didn't want her in one either. However I also didn't want her in a place so small there wasn't activities and stimulation. I'm so happy that with the help of a placement guide we found HarborView. It's a beautiful mansion with manicured gardens set on a hill overlooking the stunning San Diego Bay that has 30 residents, a full staff and daily activities. After moving in we quickly found out that the staff is what really makes this place special. They are loving, attentive, respectful, courteous, caring and fun. There are always lots of smiles, laughter and music to enjoy as well as good food and the highest quality of care. I cannot recommend this place more. HarborView Senior Assisted Living was truly an answer to our prayers. It was the perfect place for my beloved mother's final days. It is a beautiful loving caring home, not an institution. She has left us now, but she was both blessed and enriched by the love and care she received from their wonderful staff. I, and all of our family, was blessed by them as well. Thank you HarborView.

He even gave us information on other options in case his services might not meet our needs. He is genuine in his concern and commitment to providing top level care.
