The issue was our fuel pump but keep in mind that we are from out of town, it's saturday around 3pm and these guys close at 5pm. Fortunately, the King City AutoZone was just a few miles out. They let me borrow a reader to plug into my car's OBD-II port, and after I handed the reader back, they pulled up the diagnostic information at the computer. The error code indicated a bad catalytic converter or O2 sensor, an issue that wouldn't prevent me from driving home safely. Phew! They even gave me an informative printout when I asked. This is a good-sized store with well-organized shelves and lots of parts stocked in the area behind the counter. Had I needed a common item or part, this place would've had me covered. This location is convenient for travelers in trouble as well as for local residents, and they open early and close reasonably late. I'm thankful for Google Maps and AutoZone, and next time I go on a road trip, I'll be sure to keep my own OBD-II reader in the car!
