Philip's Design - Custom cut-to-length Curtain Rods and drapes close to ceiling. Customer wanted them just barely touching the floor.

I had started the job myself but got an anchor screw stuck and figured I should have a pro step in so I didn't wreck my new walls. All the supplies were here, placed where they needed to be, holes were measured and marked for custom made rods and drapes. He charges by the hour and moves very, very slow. He didn't have his own step ladder or anchor screws. In the first hour, he managed to put in 3 screws in holes that had already been marked. He claimed he "needed to remeasure" and that's why it took so long, but he used the holes that I had already marked. He also said it was too hard to do with custom cut rods. He also said it wasn't his fault because I had an anchor screw stuck in the wall already, which was the whole reason I hired him. This is what pros do: they come prepared, know the required materials and techniques, and advise the customer on the best way to proceed. I knew we needed to cut it off when he asked me how to use an anchor screw. He didn't know if you needed to pre-drill or not for a very basic and common anchor. I cannot imagine a professional handyman not knowing that. He used a level to stare at the pre-marked holes for what seemed like an eternity, just eating up time. 3 screws = $200. Seems like a nice enough man, but handyman may not be the profession for him, and that's giving him the benefit of the doubt that he wasn't just trying to take advantage of someone he assumed was too naive too know how long the job should take. He became very defensive, making excuses when I said we'd need to end the job at one hour. Im sure judging by other less than 5 star reviews here (that I really wish I'd have taken the time to read) he will post a very defensive response here as well. Please just don't take a job you don't have the required expertise to complete, and I don't want to hear defensive excuses when I'm still out $200 for almost no work completed.

The Best Buy people that came earlier said they would be only able to install it while making holes in the wall, near the floor under every speaker and also some holes in the ceiling of the basement and they would not repair those holes. Glebe was able to much smarter without any visible damage so no repairs were needed. His charge was a lot lower than Best Buy so I tipped him well.

But my experience with them was bad from start to finish. After my TV suddenly stopped working, I sent Glebe TV an e-mail they have listed on their Facebook page (because their website doesn't work) asking for more information. After 2-3 days passed, I got no response. This was a sign of bad things to come, but I disregarded it as no big deal. I then called them, got the needed information, and dropped off my TV a couple days later. They charge a $95 non-refundable deposit fee to get an estimate, which can be applied later to the cost of repairing the TV. While dropping off the TV, I was told I'd get a call in "a couple days". A couple days came and went. I called 14 days later after never hearing from them. They still hadn't even tested the TV to see what was wrong with it. I'm frustrated, but continue to wait. I call back a few days later once again and no status updates. At that point I was then told a technician will call me "first thing in the morning". This call never came. Finally, after 20 days they called me first and gave me an estimate. So just to be clear, I paid $95 dollars for an estimate that took 20 days. For me, it would've cost another $200 or so to fix the TV so it made more sense to buy another TV. If I would've known it'd take 20 days to get an estimate, I would've never went to Glebe in the first place. They never apologized. I asked for some type of refund for the lengthy and expensive estimate and lack of communication on their part, but I was met with dismissive attitudes and kept getting the run-around to call back at another time. At this point, TV's have become throwaway items and in most cases it's probably more cost effective to just buy a new one. I don't recommend you take your TV to a business that can take up to 20 days to give an estimate, does not initiate contact with their customers, and is dismissive/unapologetic to it's customers. Very disappointed.

I rarely write reviews after negative customer service experiences - this is the world, times are…read morehard, things happen - but I am so thoroughly disgusted by my Aegis experience that I can't remain silent. We've been customers with Aegis for many years, with no issues. In 2021, suddenly we started having calamitous issues with our alarms going off, sometimes in the middle of the night, for no reason. They'd deploy a tech, who would declare the problem fixed, only to have it happen again, at least once only hours after the tech had left. We received no customer service via phone. At least once the fire department showed up without us having received any notification that there was an alarm going off. Out of an abundance of frustration, I terminated my contract with Aegis early. (By the way, terminating our service wasn't enough to get the incessant beeping of the system to stop. We had to have another company out to disable the beeping.) That was when I received a VERY substantial bill from Aegis, citing an early termination fee. When I reached out to the company, one last time, to make sure they felt that charging me hundreds of dollars because THEY failed to meet our expectations was the reasonable thing, a very nice person named Tracy spent what was clearly considerable time documenting every time they felt they'd responded appropriately to our crises. And that's really the remarkable part, because it's the first time anyone at Aegis acknowledged that the system had any kind of problems. If Aegis had put one ounce of the effort into FIXING the problems that Tracy put in to documenting them, perhaps I'd still be an Aegis customer. Instead, I'll hold my nose while I am forced to hand them several hundred dollars to reward them for positively garbage customer care. I have since taken my business to Patriot Fire and Security of Winchester, and Jim Dollar has taken extraordinary care of us. Potential Aegis customers, be warned, and perhaps give Jim a call instead.

They only do service calls Mon-Fri 8am-4pm with minimum 2 hour windows, so if you're a residential customer, yes they expect you to take off work to wait for their technician. I was then told that the next available appointment that wasn't mid day, was two weeks from then. So, I went two weeks without being able to change the TV channels and then my appointment comes around and of course, he was late. The technician gets there and immediately realizes two "emitters" were out of place. He quickly places them back in the right spot, tests the remotes, and says he's done. He showed up and left the house within 15 minutes. Maybe took him 5 minutes of any actual labor, not including just walking around the house. Then I receive an invoice for $198. $75 for the trip and $120 for the labor. Upon discussing the invoice with the finance department, I was told by Anna and Mark that the invoice is completely valid and that there was no room for discussion. So, I paid $198 for 5 minutes of service that I had to wait TWO WEEKS for. This company is a scam.
