Gutters and trim hacked and not properly repaired.

You never want to hear that the contractor who just charged you $30,000 for a new roof is too busy to see why water is spilling down into your house. In fact, I can't even believe someone would be bold enough to say this to a customer. This is what I was told on 8/6/24, when I spoke to the Reps from AVA roofing. First, I sent a text message to one of the owners (Tony) - but no response. The next day I called the company. For the sake of this review, I wanna make sure that I get as close as possible to the exact wording. When I called, I asked to speak to Tony. The receptionist, Natalia, said that Tony was out of town and Sergio was in charge. After I explained that my roof was leaking, Natalia stated that Sergio was in a meeting and would call me back. Later that afternoon, the manager, Russ called me back. I again explained to Russ that my roof was leaking, and they had just replaced my roof back in November. After some other unnecessary back-and-forth, Russ stated that he will have someone call me when he looks at the schedule. I asked when that would be. Russ said that he did not know when because he's got other projects going on. I replied, wouldn't my job qualify as an emergency since I have water falling into my home. Russ responded that he had other projects in a similar situation. I asked him how many other roofs he put on that were leaking. He said none. I said, so I don't understand. He said, "but there are other jobs that I have to make sure are OK". At this point I was beyond exhausted with this mental exercise, so I asked that he call be back when he had an answer. Well, Russ did call back, but what he said next was even more crazy than the first phone call. Russ said he had spoken to the owner Tony who said he would be back in town on the 12th and would contact me when he got home. Wait What? Here is the dialogue: Me- Russ that's a week from now and my roof is leaking. Russ- It could have been from the heavy rainfall we recently had. Me- So that's what happens when you put on a new roof and it rains? Russ- Well this was a driven rainstorm! Me - So now rain drives? Russ - What is that? What is driven rain? Russ- Well if your roof was leaking because of us, it would have been leaking before now. Me - I am so confused. Rain drives, the roof is leaking, but it's not your fault. You have other projects so you can't be bothered with mine. The owner is out of town living it up, while mold is setting up camp in my ceiling, and this is what you're going with? Are you telling me that no one can come to my house before a full week goes by? Russ - Tony is the owner and I am telling you what he said. WHAT! Are you kidding me right now. He was serious. Guys I know this is a lot of content, but I just want everyone to have the full effect here. When there is a problem companies like this would rather deny, deny, deny, than actually provide good customer service and craftsmanship. According to the BBB (Better Business Bureau), this company is good at denying. Here was the real issue that was causing my problems. The company rushed my job, which means they missed things that would cause future problems. For example, the reason my roof was leaking is because the pipe boot was never sealed properly around the vent, issues with the flashing, the gutters weren't properly put back in place, shingles are falling off the roof. The result: water in my basement from the bad gutter placement, water damage in my attic so paint is bubbling and water falling from the ceiling downstairs. I am posting pictures to clarify my statement.

They had to fix a number of issues including dry-rot, lack of insulation, replacing various layers of the exterior around the windows and weather-proofing the house in parts where it was lacking. They came out in a very timely manner to provide a quote. Corvair clearly explains the work he is carrying out and is very knowledgeable at what he does. Their team is hard-working on-site. Upon discovering some further issues, he offered options on how to proceed, some of which involved more work but when he reached those decision points he was very clear and prompt as to what the benefit of the additonal work at the time. I trust the quality and of their work and will keep coming back to Charge Construction. Him and his team do great work and the prices are fair for the quality of service provided. Jake had an excellent presentation - They were the lowest bidder - The roof looks good and I have not had any issues with it. - Their "A" team came out to correct some issues (the flashing looked like it had been installed by a 4th grader) The Bad: - I was told that a PM would be onsite the entire time. In reality he was on site for maybe 10% of the project - My project was sub-contracted out to a another team and I was NOT informed of this. This became a major problem when I started having issues and could not talk to anyone (the subcontractors did not speak english). Note that Buffalo Fresh Roof is NOT the company you are signing with. The contract is actually with Bors Pros Construction - Within an hour on the first day, the protective tarps had come down and there was debris raining down on my deck and flower beds. When the PM showed up at the end of the day, he said that this could not be helped. Of course, that is garbage - they wouldn't put the tarps up if they didn't have a purpose. Also, this is not what I was told in pre-sales. As a side note, I saw the same sub-contractors working on a project down the street for another company a few weeks later. There were no problems with the tarps on that project. - The roofers decided to try to do a u-turn in my lawn and got stuck (I still have the ruts). They then gave me attitude when I refused to try to pull them out using my truck. - I have damage to my gutters, deck, flower beds and lawn. - I am still finding nails around the perimeter of the house To be fair, the PM did knock off the additional cost incurred in replacing some of the plywood. It wasn't worth what I am going to have to spend in the spring to fix my yard, flowerbeds and lawn - I just wanted them gone.

In 40 years, I've had to replace only of the original 32 I had installed. And this was not a fault of the window but of the old house's window frame shifting on the weather side. They sell quality windows and doors, use experienced installers, and are well organized. DEALING WITH THEM IS SO EASY. When you phone, a company person answers the phone and responds to your need. DONE! Their follow-up repair service is also excellent. They respond, however small the problem.

We decided to go with Big L because they are local and felt like we wanted to support the "little" local company. We signed the contract and off we went. Our doors came in, were installed. They stiffed us on the first installation day, but then showed up unexpectedly a few days later. The problem is, the doors they installed were the wrong color and not what we ordered and the hardware was wrong. One screen was slashed from top to bottom. This wasn't evident until after they were installed. Our house is architecturally significant, and the installer had to create new holes and install hardware where there wasn't hardware before. Big L indicated they could just swap out the doors and get us the right color, but that that would leave us with holes and damage from the original installation. Not optimal. After MONTHS of badgering us for payment, but not making any effort to remedy the wrong hardware or ripped screen, we paid a reduced balance, and are left with doors that don't match our house, aren't what we wanted, and without any service to make it right. Oh, and the screen on one of them is still trashed. I wouldn't recommend Big L. There are lots of small companies out there. Try one of those instead.
