She cried the first lesson and wanted to get out of the pool. Jaynie and the teachers are very patient with the kids , but also know how to keep them in the water through the crying to get them to a more comfortable place. I love their approach and how they focused on technique first (big arms, blowing bubbles, strong kicks), and progressed to teaching a little more each day. Leena was Izzy's instructor for 2 of the sessions and I was blown away by what she could do by the end! She was able to go under, touch the bottom of the pool, hold her breath for a few seconds at a time, jump in and go under, and float on her back for a few seconds. Izzy gained a lot of confidence in her swimming this summer. She told me each day she was excited to go in, get rings and put her head under. Most all of this is to Leena's credit. She is so positive and engaging, and is really great at building trust and swim technique. She may not know how to swim alone yet, but by next summer I'm sure she will be able to! ;) Thank you Farnham!

The front desk staff and customer support have been great as well. But the best thing about waterworks is their instructors, they are so warm and kind to the young kids. This review is for Coach Tyson who is one of the most experienced coaches in Bascom facility. Before working with him, I had started and stopped swimming lessons more than once. Each time, I came away wondering if swimming was something I was never going to get..Then I started working with Tyson. What I loved the most was his ability to see exactly what was going wrong and give me a simple cue that would suddenly make everything click. When I was struggling with freestyle breathing, he noticed I was lifting my head too much and said, "Chin to your shoulder." When I couldn't seem to swim straight, it was "Arm behind your ears" to keep it straight. When I was learning to dive from the side of the pool, he explained it as, "It's like going into a handstand--bend down, and at the moment you go in, push forward." Somehow he always had the right cue at the right time and that works so well!! Every time I got stuck, he had a solution. Sometimes it was a technique fix, sometimes a different drill, and sometimes just a friendly nudge to get in a little more practice. He genuinely cared about helping me improve, and that made a huge difference. It was also great to see him work with my son. My son is at a more advanced level and he was more focused on improving his sprint times, and Tyson helped him get noticeably faster while also fixing some issues with technique and working extensively on dives and turns. He celebrated the small wins, kept us motivated and made learning something that had always felt intimidating actually fun.In about four months, I went from being close to giving up on swimming altogether to learning three strokes and feeling comfortable in the water. Thanks a ton Tyson! It was impressive to see him switch seamlessly between coaching young beginners who were scared to get into water to more advanced swimmers trying to get more competitive - each needing a different style of teaching. If you're looking for a swim coach who understands technique, knows how to teach both kids and adults, and genuinely cares about helping swimmers improve, I highly recommend Coach Tyson!

Coach Jonas is very warm and welcoming, yet he projects his voice so that the students can still hear him if their heads are under water. At first I was scared how my daughter would react to him since he is a male teacher. However, as soon as she jumped into the water and they started to get to know each other, she was all smiles and ready to learn with him. Like I said before, Coach Jonas is very warm and welcoming. He's not there just to level up his students as soon as possible. He makes sure the children have the proper arm and breathing techniques so they are set for success when swimming. Look no further, Coach Jonas is the instructor to get your child going places in the water.

Personally I am a gym rat and I have been to absolutely every commercial gym in all of San Jose and this place ranks as one of the top contenders. The staff is amazing, I know everyone on a first name basis and they really do make you feel like family. The amount of value you get from this location is ridiculous. Just to begin they have equipment you would never see at a 24 or City Sport! Everything is super clean, they have deadlift platforms and the tool to load and unload weights. Towels and sprays are always stocked to while everything down and the workers are dilligent. They offer supplemental classes, have pickleball available, swimming pool, showers, indoor turf, outdoor work out area which is PERFECT for sunset or sun rise work outs. All in all I love this place, they have a good system going, everything is immaculately clean and their workers are able to address anything you may need. They even have free personal training which is expensive at 24 or city sport.

Make up your mind YMCA either get rid of the waiting list or tell the instructors they aren't following attendance rules. So rude.
