The measure of a company is how a problem is handled. I have used Avalon at least 3 other times. Never a problem. This time there was a question regarding installation which installers did not understand. Spoke to salesperson who said the issue would be forwarded to supervisor. Avalon supervisor never contacted me or the installers. The result is that a simple misunderstanding became a major dispute. Terrible experience read more

She educated me on which tiles serve which purpose and was very nice to work with. We also used Avalon for all of the carpet and kitchen tile. Should have read the reviews before my mother and I headed over to Avalon Flooring in Toms River. We walked into the store and after about 15 minutes of attempting to get a sales persons attention (only two other customers in the store and three sales people from what I could tell) no one would acknowledge us. I mean not a hello, not a we'll be right with you, and when we made eye contact and attempted to get some some attention, they averted their eyes on multiple occasions and were clearly too busy to deal with us. Then the sales woman acted like we were a big inconvenience to her time. She treated me like I was a kid and kept telling me how expensive everything would be...really? Bought a condo in Ocean County searching for rugs we looked in many stores but couldn't find the large sizes we needed at an affordable price. We stopped in at a furniture store but they only had small area rugs. We asked the salesperson for a carpet store and gave us two names - one being Avalon Flooring. We headed over and was greeted by Dave. We told him what sizes we were looking for and although they had a nice selection what we wanted was out of our price range. He suggested looking at remnants and they could cut & bind them to the size we needed. Dave was awesome - not pushy and glad he suggested the remnants. It saved us money & time. Flooring I received was beautiful and have no complaints on the actual product. But the staffing at the Toms River location in simple terms sucks. I called the brick location where I originally purchased the floor and asked them how I could return extra flooring. Brick location mentioned bringing it back to the Toms River location where I picked it up from and after driving 30 minutes out of my way to bring it here the staff told me I was unable to return the flooring because it was a Sunday and the loading crew isn't in on sundays. I AM A 23 YR OLD GIRL THAT LOADED THE 4 BOXES IN THE CAR MYSELF. staffs telling me they're unable to load because how I take it they're lazy.....not sure why the 4 boxes couldn't just be brought inside BY ME, my refund be processed and since they're sooooo lazy the loading people load it tomorrow. Why is it that I have to be inconvenienced.....drive 30 minutes home and 30 minutes tomorrow again to return it. At this point I don't care the floor was beautiful I'll shop somewhere else because of the lazy staff read more

I'm still shaking my head about my experience with Avalon. Being that the salesperson I worked with was nearly useless, I designed my own tile layout, which isn't rocket science. He then proceeded to argue with me that laying the floor the way I wanted it would be too time consuming and expensive. Pardon me? My time, my money. "So, pretty please with sugar on top. Clean the fucking car." - Winston Wolf, Pulp Fiction After settling the issue of whose kitchen was actually being re-tiled, and who therefore was making the decisions and cutting the checks, then came the fun part: installation. It began with the contractor, a little Guatemalan fellow who looked to be about 14 years-old, starting to overlay the three pre-existing layers of flooring left behind by previous owners. Stop the presses, buddy - pull the old flooring up first. I pointed out that by raising the floor basically a full inch, I would never get my appliances back into their cabinets. Oh, that would be too much work? No problem. Please call Avalon and tell them they need to find a new contractor because you don't feel like working today. After he agreed to do the job the right way, he pulled up the top layer, then stated he could not get the other two off, being glued down too securely. He assured me the appliances would fit back in, so I told him to go ahead. Shortly thereafter, we were right back at it. He then started arguing with me over how I wanted the tile put down, because again, it would be too much work. So again we addressed that reoccurring issue, and he agreed to do what he was being paid to do. After several days, the job was completed, and I was initially very happy with it. The appliances barely fit, so that was positive. However, the installer had ripped all of the floor molding off - 40 pieces in all, broken and discarded, very difficult to re-cut correctly because I have neither a level or plumb intersection of floor and wall in that area - and after a couple of days, it was becoming apparent that he wasn't ever coming back to fix it. When I called Avalon, their response was an unequivocal "we're not responsible for the molding." Well, I disagreed, since their installer had torn it all off and broken it, but that didn't get me anywhere, so I ended up doing it myself. That's when I discovered places where they'd stopped just a bit too far from the wall, leaving gaps down to the subfloor between the base of the molding and the tile. On about day three with my new floor, I also found that they hadn't used the stain resistant grout that I had specified and paid for. Response to my message? None. Oh well. They were paid in full, and I guess that was the end of their responsibility. Having been burned once, I would sooner light myself on fire before ever spending another nickle with Avalon. read more

Absolutely terrible. I am not one to write reviews, especially not if they are negative. I do feel the need to share my experience at the Toms River, Avalon. I am so very disappointed in the lack of quality customer service. Our salesman, David, was nice when we first met him, but once the sale was made and we made the decision to not use Avalon to install our floors, it seems as if no effort was made to ensure that our delivery process went smoothly. Two mistakes were made in regards to shipping and delivery. Imagine the frustration as a first time home owner to not be able to install and finish your floors for almost a month because of the consistent mistakes of your service provider. Secondly, the information that we were given by our salesman, was constantly incorrect. Our contractor was thankfully able to give us the correct information about the floors we ordered and the proper way to install them. Overall, I do NOT recommend the Toms River Avalon. Avalon has beautiful quality flooring, however, the customer service in Toms River needs a great deal of work. read more

My experience with Avalon was quite pleasant. After Superstorm Sandy flooded our home, we were completely devastated. We went to Avalon for all of our flooring and the sale associate was very helpful and knowledgeable. We love the way our home now looks (better than pre-Sandy) and LOVE our heated bathroom floors. We purchased laminate flooring, tile and rugs from the Toms River store. Within weeks we had problems with the laminate scratching. I called the manufacturer and they said they would be happy to replace it just have the company where me purchased it give them a call. So I call Avalon and discovered they purchased from a wholesaler which is fine, however, the manager refused to file a claim on my behalf. They came here to look at the floor and told me that we probably scratched it cleaning it and instead of having the manufacturer make the call, they did. I was livid and called the manufacturer again and they told me there is nothing they can do if the store refuses to call them and especially since they didn't buy directly from them. They were quick to sell me something but lack good servicing and the manager is to blame. I purchased this 4 years ago, complained 1 month after getting it and still living with a floor that gets scratched by walking on it with sneakers. I'll never buy from them again. I looked up Latinate flooring and found that it shouldn't get scratched from walking on it. This floor was obviously defective. But the store is to blame for not handling this properly. read more

In the process of moving, we were looking for area carpets for the new house. We dealt with Ed Tamburr, who was extremely helpful, nice and the reason we continued to shop there. We ended up ordering all of our custom blinds from Ed, who once again was great. Avalon sent Joe, one of their installers the other day, to measure and he was just as nice and extremely helpful with suggestions, etc. Some of the windows at corners of rooms, were extremely close and he took the time to take pictures, send them to whomever he needed to, and made recommendations. We could not be happier with both Ed and Joe and I feel the price of the blinds was extremely reasonable and i have most certainly shopped around for prices. Ed even offered to put standard blinds in the house until ours our done.With the stress of moving after being in a house for 35 years, at least one part of the move was easy and certainly less stressful. read more
