I went in to get a gel manicure. It has been less than 18 hours, and it's already peeling off my nails. I have places where the polish has chipped. There are places where the polish is not all the way on my nail and is on my skin. Some of my mail has no polish on it. It may be small places with no nail polish but I had 2 nail techs and so I feel like someone should have seen this. I feel like the polish is just old and that's why it's not staying on my nails good. My nails were smooth they didn't rough them up before applying polish. The nail techs were very friendly and they were able to hold a conversation. They were able to accommodate what I wanted done to my nails. And I loved that they went the extra mile to get me what I wanted. A nail tech used her own personal polish to get me the design that I wanted. They really did go the extra mile for me. read more

My boyfriend surprised me with this booking for an eyebrow tinting. I'm glad he did because I. Am. In. Love! When I walked in and met the esthetician, she as so fun and bubbly; could feel right away I was in safe hands and I wasn't going to walk out looking like a painted moose or something haha! I told her I wanted to darken and sharpen them so they have a shape to them; even hold a fade to them because I'm so tired of doing my makeup constantly. She showed me some of her previous work and had her instructor approve her ideas. She talked me through the process and let me be nit-picky through the whole process- still being warm and bubbly. When she was done....speechless! I love them and you notice such a difference. I don't even have to do my makeup that often; just like a clear gel to frame them. I had booked a nail appointment and a hair appointment on different days. Both booked online and confirmed. The day of my nail appointment they call me asking me to come early, I was working and said I could not then they call me four hours before the appointment and say the student is sick and cancel. Then I had a hair services booked for a Saturday morning. I was called 30 minutes before the appointment to cancel. Again stating the student was sick. Maybe booking over the phone would be better but this is not a school or salon I would ever want to go to now. read more

I was a student here, prior to transferring to another cosmetology school. When Lyndsay was the director, I enjoyed my experience. Dede was an amazing instructor, as was Raquel, and I will always speak highly of them. Unfortunately, I had a miserable time after Lyndsay left. The new director didn't seem to understand me or my problems. I had taken a leave of absence due to my son getting RSV back in November. I submitted absolutely everything that was required of me, MULTIPLE times in fact, and was told by the director it had been approved. Fast forward to July 2023, I am dropped just 2 weeks before graduation. I call corporate (480-246-8439) and have an email conversation back and forth to which I am told that particular leave was never approved. Cool. I'm a single mom that can barely afford school as is, and I'm told they denied my leave that I had no control over. I was told it was "inappropriate " to bring the issue up when I had not previously known about the "denied leave" until THAT day. Unprofessionalism at its finest. The students however do incredible work! We are bribed with "Avalon dollars" school money, to tell our clients to leave us great reviews. I'm leaving my truth after having been through the worst experience of my life. I'm appalled at the way everything was handled, and the fact that no one was willing to correct their own mistakes regarding my LOA. This school lacks a lot of accountability, and I have already dissuaded a few prospective students, and I'd advise you do your research prior to enrolling. Hello, I was a student at Avalon Institute. Do not go here. This place does not care about you whatsoever. You spend around $20k to get enrolled, then when you try to leave, you're slapped with a $3k fee that they don't tell you about until after the fact. We never have ANY products in stock, we never do ANYTHING good enough when we're given "jobs/chores" at the end of the day to do (and so we get bombarded with instructors griping at us for not "cleaning up" well enough) -- again, we paid $20k to be here. Every single day, it is always something else. It isn't ever the administration's fault for getting something wrong or doing something wrong; it falls onto the students or the one instructor that they almost always end up choosing as their target -- these instructors are usually very nice, but they leave because of being practically harassed and micro-managed by the administration. First off, if you have to micro-manage your employees and then make your employees micro-manage your students, you're obviously insecure about the way that you're running things; just do better, be better. Have I mentioned that there isn't even an HR for this school? If you have a problem, you have to speak with the Director first (if you can even get to her because she's always "busy") and if that doesn't work (and it almost always doesn't), you have to call Corporate. Yes, Corporate -- this school is run by a big business, rather than people who love the Cosmetology field. All they care about is "What is the easiest and fastest way to take these people's money?" and that's it, nothing else. You don't matter to them -- you aren't even a person to them, but just an unpaid employee; that's the treatment you get for $20k here. Oh, and by the way, calling Corporate doesn't do anything either -- because they don't care. Also, aside from the basic kit that you get when enrolled, you have to pay for everything else. Your State Board kit is all on you -- you're practically on your own. We've also ran out of barbacide (something that the school LEGALLY always has to have due to sanitization reasons) and they had a student run out to go buy it. I'm not even sure if she got reimbursed for that, but I wouldn't be surprised if she didn't. Not to mention the fact that if you get sick, oh well -- you still have to come in; even if you have a doctor's note. Oh, and don't miss saturdays because then you'll have ISS -- yes, this school (college, by the way) has In School Suspension! What do you do for ISS at a Cosmetology College? You roll three full heads of red perm rods, the smallest perm rods that they have. Isn't that helpful and productive for students to do? By the way, you can get ISS for just missing a saturday. You can also get ISS for missing your 900s or 1400s -- and that gives you 4 days of ISS, where you have to write them an essay on "responsibility" -- charming and professional, right? Avalon Institute is an hour based college where you need to obtain 1600 hours to graduate. For day classes, you get there at 8:30 AM and leave at 4 PM; that's 7 hours a day, 35 per week. Every single student that I know, either with perfect attendence or average attendence, has had around 100 hours go missing. When you go and try to get the issue fixed, it becomes a constant battle between you and the person who works on hours for the school (which changes often because Avalon can never really keep a solid employee base). DO NOT GO HERE. I signed a contract in Feb 2023 and 5 weeks in i was in the ICU with huge health issues. i was then in and out of the ICU for the whole year of 2023. I was intubated and ALL my specialist told me school was not an options, gave all my medical documentation, letters, everything and all they could say was i could come back or they could charge me 6,000 for 5 weeks. im single mom, and i was struggling with my health for the whole and finances for the whole yeat. The HR here is a huge joke. they sent me to collections and had my wrong address after i updated it NUMEROUS times, and they "she time multiple emails" letting me know it would go to collections but when i asked for proof they had nothing, all they could tell me was it went through on their end. This place is a joke, they only care about money. Please do not attend this school unless you want to pay an arm and a leg to be treated like garbage. read more

Horrible place. My daughter was in an out of the ICU last year after attending only 5 weeks. Even though her specialists wrote letters that she physically could not continue on due to medical conditions she was unaware of when enrolling, they refuse to cancel her contract without her paying them 6000.00. They have already received their grants for her and are not giving that money back and want more from her. The Layton director is disgustingly unprofessional and only returns calls till you sign on the dotted line. Then "pretends" to not get your emails or calls when it's convenient for her. My daughter went to apply there and the had a medical emergency and was in the hospital off an on for several weeks. They went after her for tuition even though a medical doctor said she couldn't do the course. She is a single mother, and they are charging her $6000 for not being able to go due to a medical emergency. Bad bad people associated with this company. read more

Zero stars! This school that my wife went to for several months basically is a cash cow. We paid $3600 for the first month and $1400 for each month she attended, we prepaid the $1400 each month. The school conditions are terrible and the furnace and the air conditioning never work. All the students are treated terrible, and are expected to clean the facility as if they are janitors. If you attend school here and I really wish you would look at other options, but if you do read the contract carefully and cross out and initial the part that says you will marry for 6 months no matter how long you attend. Because of the horrible conditions my wife passed out, hit her head and suffered a major concussion. We took her out of school and got slapped with a collection agency. I have never been sent to collections in my life. I hope this place closes down, I hope someone who considers this school and thinks it's cheap it's really not. Ive been here for a pedicure, lashes and eyebrow wax so far. Im very satisfied with all three services. I do think they could stand to have better seating for the pedicures though. Other than that, the two different students ive had were very attentive and thorough. The ladies at the front desk are professional, courteous and attentive. They treated me well. BEWARE! This is possibly the worst school to choose for your esthetics or cosmetology career. Not only was I lied to as a student when touring and choosing to enroll.. but I was treated like garbage from the so called "leaders" of this school whom of which is the director Shae Kendell and the director of Education Aubrie Litster. These are quite possibly two of the most unprofessional women I have ever met. They have very poor communication within each other so students are often told one thing from one person and another from the other person and you can't ever seem to get the right answer. Shae and Aubrie are both cosmetologists and don't know a single thing about Esthetics. They treat the estheticians like garbage and the cosmetology students get the special treatment. They never engage with the Ethetics students and try to be a part of the classes or demonstrations. They are extremely two-faced and will be kind to your face but horrible behind your back. And if you are a student who likes to speak up about issues as I was, then you will absolutely be talked about behind your back but smiled at to your face. If you have an issue that needs to be addressed, such as with hours or schedule or safety or really anything of that manner, you will be told to send an email and then you will never get a response. And God forbid you have a question for Aubrie... because that woman goes on excessive vacations and is more dedicated to Disneyland then her own job. These two women are not directors they are more like ringleaders because they are running a circus. And I assure you this is no Barnum and Bailey.. it's not worth the money. Please heed my warning this is not a school you want to attend especially if Shae and Aubrie are still it's leaders. It also seems like they are able to remove negative reviews because there are many that are missing that I personally know have been left within the past 4 months. read more

I understand this is a school and there will be errors. My complaint is towards the school and not the stylist. I went in a week prior to my event to get a balayage. The instructors guided the student completely wrong. Once my hair was finished I went home and noticed it was not a balayage at all. When I straightened my hair it was not even and had stripes and a very huge stripe down the middle. The coloring was not blended and looked awful. I contacted the school to let them know about the problem and stated that I had an event and I needed in ASAP. I was told it had to be approved by the director and the receptionist was going to let them know I needed in ASAP. The receptionist said it will take 1-2 days to hear from them. The receptionist also stated that if I wanted to pay they could get me in ASAP to fix it. Why would I want to pay for an error that was not done by me? I was never contacted and I called multiple times to get in touch with the director and was sent to voicemail every time. Finally I was contacted almost a week later. I ended up having to go to a professional salon to get it taken care of prior to my event. My hair appointment was on 7/3 and here it is 7/16 and still playing phone tag. I was contacted today by Greg to set up an appointment to correct it. I let him know I want a refund and was told they do not give refunds... He then went to see if Kelsey could take my call and he transferred me and I was sent to her voicemail. I called back and I let the receptionist know and she said Kelsey was in her office and she would transfer me... again sent to voicemail. I am requesting corporate to contact me about this and will see what they can do.... Again I understand this is a school and I am not complaining about the stylist I am complaining about how the school handles situations like this. read more

Honestly, I had the worst experience here as a student and here I am posting 7 months after I dropped out because they said there's no other way to get my voice as a student heard other than posting so here ya go. First of all Avalon is a school ran by business men, not salon owners or in the industry. Second, I was there for maybe about a whole month. And the teacher was sleeping with one of my friends(student) boyfriends. Not sure if that's normal, but uh Lindsay the director didn't seem to care. Also was buying pills from another student in exchange for hair service. Like what is this. There was another student that got into my wallet without my permission and still nothing was done. Just lots of drama. And so anyways, I got a good job offer, and decided to end my time at Avalon. I knew I was still responsible for the $3,300 tuition. I kept calling to set up a payment plan and they didn't have a financial advisor for 3-4 months or just kept running through them. So because I couldn't get ahold of anyone and even have records of me calling multiple times trying to see what I could do they hand it over to collections. So since I still had to pay for my loans and tuition, I spoke with jasmine a financial person and she said the only way is to leave a review so here ya go. I do not recommend Avalon to anyone. Maybe it was just my experience but I mean all that in one month of school, you gotta be kidding me. read more

Tonight I had a fabulous facial by Star at her Avalon school on antelope. I great care of my skin, but it was still out of wack with change in climate, hormones, and just not being fully educated on my skin type. I've had a lot of facials- and hers was the best. The school has up to date equipment to educate you on your skin type, and allows her to make a totally individualize facial. I thoroughly enjoyed getting my blackheads extracted, and it was nice to have a evening appointment. read more

Awesome services performed by students. Its not 5 stars because, its a school. Expect the rooms to be not as nice as a spa- but you're paying half or less to go there. The students are trained before they hit the floor, but may ask a teacher for help- teachers are always nearby to help with anything needed. The prices are really reasonable and the services are spa quality, as are the products. The skincare lines are Dermalogica or Image which are both pro lines. They offer anything from manicures and pedicures to haircuts and highlights to Microdermabrasion, peels, and facials. You can get pampered all day for the price of one treatment at a high end spa or salon. Tip the students, they appreciate it! There are re-booking incentives (like 25% off) referral incentives, and monthly deals/sales. I got 25% off product by getting a facial. read more

I've had my hair cut, colored, and bleached at this school. I absolutely loved each experience! I also go to the same student, Ashley Farris because she is phenomenal! I was able to get a trim to get rid of all my dead ends, and Ashley is also currently bleaching my hair so I can be silver platinum. We added a pink shadow box underneath which looks AMAZING! They didn't have magenta color that day because their shipment came late but she and her teacher were able to mix other colors to get pink. After each cut/color/bleach I'm also told exactly how to maintain my hair on my own to keep it bright and fabulous which I really appreciate. This school has awesome students and awesome teachers! Be sure to look up Ashley Farris when you go! She really listens and is very attentive to detail. She actually cares about what you want. read more

On the student aspect of Avalon. It's an absolute terrible school to attend. They will send u into this course without a permanent instructor because they were in the middle of trying to find new ones , yet they enrolled you without telling you this info. The education they claim to give you, they don't. You don't get demos everyday, you free trade most days, you have to ask for demos randomly because they don't provide them. Theory portion of learning is awful, you just watch YouTube videos the whole entire time. And then when you try to transfer and things don't work out they will sit down with you and tell you that you won't owe anything but when you withdrawal from the school to go to a better one they end up sending you and EMAIL saying you owe them 3,000$ which I get it if something comes up I'm obligated to pay it but it boggles my mind that financial info was left out of the conversation until now .. and it's also terrible because not only do I owe them 3,000$ , but I'm paying them for an education that I didn't receive. Thankfully I found a better school and am loving it, just wish Avalon wasn't so corrupt ! Anybody know the number to report this ??let me know!! Avalon is by far the worst experience I've ever had in my life. I went to school there for a year and a couple months starting off in the high school program. My first day there wasn't as welcoming as I hoped... the girls there were rude to the new starts and they even yelled at us. Our kits and tools that are given to us are cheap and easily breakable and a lot of people love to steal at the school (so make sure to write your name ON EVERYTHING). I've had my blow dryer, brushes, combs, etc. stolen from me multiple times. Avalon all together are money grabbers. They expect high payments right up front no matter your financial circumstances or else "you'll be removed from the program". The education taught isn't the best... you're literally taught only a few times before you're thrown on to the floor to take clients to figure it all out on your own. They're also a very dirty school... it's not the cleanest or best organized if you really pay attention to things. They also weren't the best due to covid. And not to mention the director and some administrators are highly rude and pick and choose favorites. They're very bad with communication on tests, projects, etc. the "favorites" are told well in advance while others are told a day before things are due or need to be done. 99.9% of the time they also won't tell you that you have a client until the client is actually there and checked in leaving you to be the "bad guy" because their goal is to not make clients wait but that's how it ends up due to you needing to set up your station and get prepared. There is soooo much more I can go on and on about but me personally I was not happy with my education or the place I went to receive my education.... It was a waste of money and time. I really wish i went to a different school and did my research and learned more about this place before I went. read more

I went in to get my roots and my hair done because of grow out. I went in with pretty blonde hair and came out with brown roots and brassy blonde hair. One of the instructors tried to assist but I don't understand how the other instructor was so careless to look at what I wanted and I ended up with two different colors of hair. I have tried to call the corporate office with no success, I am beyond upset with this and will not be coming back to this location or any for that matter. read more

This school is terrible. I was a student for about a year and 2 months. The staff treats everyone like shit. All staff are rude and inconsiderate. I was treated like a failure for 6 months when I dropped out the first time, and I don't know what the hell made me decide to go back. Nothing changes with them. I wouldn't recommend. Go somewhere where the staff actually know how to run a business and have some customer service. They need to work in treating their students with more respect or they won't have any. I wanted to attend Avalon as a student until I saw how the students were treated while getting my sons haircut. My other son was hugging my leg and not running around and an instructor yelled at me for having a child present, as a paying customer. It took the nearly graduated student 2 hours to cut his hair. While a feel that the girls in there do a decent job. What I don't like about them is they charge only about $1 less than what a professional salon would charge. The haircuts are $10 for a guys haircut unless you were referred for the first time, then it is $5. I don't understand why they charge so much as New Horizons in Logan charges less than half of what they charge. Pretty, much the only reason I go here is to support my Sister who is going through this school. On my first visit I just got color and it was great. However, on my second visit I wanted my hair cut. I had finally grown it out and wanted some very light layers. I told that to the student and went into great detail. Then the teacher came in and didn't listen grabbed a large chunk, I imme said it was way too much and she said no and just snipped it off. Due to my fine hair that layer extremely chunky. I was and still am pissed by her attitude and rudeness. I will never go back to a school again. read more
