If I could give this place zero stars I would. I have been a regular here for quite some time. I always kept going back because I never had an utterly bad experience. And when I have had an issue, the job was taken care of. Last night I went in for a basic $15 manicure, and was unhappy with the job. My cuticles were barely removed and the paint job was horrendous. It looked like I had done my own nails at home... 2 weeks ago. I did not say anything because it was close to their closing time and I did not want them to rush through fixing it, so I returned this morning and spoke with the owner, she had the same lady who did my manicure fix my nails. I explained to them that I did not like the manicure and that I wanted the cuticles removed, and they said the issue was the color nail polish I choose. So I asked to pick a different color and she said no I have to charge you. So I went on explaining to them that my cuticles were not properly removed and that I wanted the whole manicure to be redone properly. They finally got me seated and the lady started to paint over my nails, to cover up the spaces she had missed yesterday. At this point I was so upset I got up to leave but the owner insisted they would fix it. So I stayed and they removed the nail polish. The lady doing my nails only removed one little piece of cuticle from ONE nail! And then repainted all my nails. I was so upset that when she was done I got up to leave, I was not going to waste more of my time there. I didn't care about letting my nails dry; it was such a poorly done job. As I was leaving, the owner asked to see my nails so I showed her and explained I was still not happy with it because they didn't remove the cuticles, so she stopped working on her client, and used the same tool she was using to cut my cuticles. It was so unsanitary, rude and very inappropriate. I have no way of knowing she cut her client while removing her cuticles and then used the same tool on me. As a medical professional I consider this a major health code violation as careless acts like this can spread blood born pathogens. While she cut my cuticles she then proceeded to tell me that not everyone removes cuticles. Isn't that the point of a manicure? It was the worst experience ever. I am never coming back here. I suggest you all save your money and time. One other thing that bothers me about this place is that employees answer their phones while they are with clients. It is distracting and makes them look very unprofessional. read more

I came here about a year ago because of all the rave reviews. I've lived in Haymarket for over 10 years and was on a mission to find a good nail salon since my awesome nail tech at Ann's Nails left without warning. To start, I actually have no idea how good or bad the techs are here... I made an appointment, was on time for my appointment, a guy tells me to pick out my color and sit at the pedi chair. I did as he said. There's no water in the tub yet. He comes over after about 10minutes and fills the tub with water and sprinkles some powder and tells me to relax and someone will be with me soon. So I waite.... play with my phone, ck my facebook, yelp, make some phone calls, respond to some emails, read some magazines..... and I ran out of things to do. I've been sitting in the tub for over 50mins!!!!!!!!! I take my feet out of the water and they are white, swollen and pruned to the point where I could not fit into my shoes!!! My feet looked like they belonged to an oger! I walked over to the guy bare feet and showed him my feet and said "Sir, do you realize I've been sitting in the tub for over 50 minutes now? I was wondering if you have forgotten about me...?" He said "No, your feet ok. You go back and relax and someone will be with you soon." (with a smile) Hmmmmm... I go back to the pedi chair and tried to put my shoes back on and still wouldn't fit. I carried my shoes in hand and walked over to the guy again and said " Sir, I am very disappointed that you could not service me. I came here because of the rave reviews on yelp, and instead of getting any kind of service, I walk out of your place of business bare feet cause my feet are so pruned from being in the hot water for so long. I am new to Virginia and have tried many nail salons. I get a pedicure once a month nomally. Since I have been to VA, I have been getting 2 pedis a month due to how poorly the nail salons are here. Not to mention why are they so expensive when they don't last? Anyways, I have found this nail salon to be the best so far. I am still looking for better, but at this point I do not believe it will happen. The staff are great and friendly. It seems pretty clean and the cost is not bad for VA. read more

Very displeased with my shellac/acrylic nails. My shape of my nail was completely altered. I asked for matching shellac color due to getting a pedicure as well, in which I was later informed that they did not have the color for my feet ONCE my nails were already dried Staff was aware of my dissatisfaction and offered me another color that did not match nor was close to. Wish I could give 0 stars but ya know.. So I was given a terrible nail job and had they horrible customer service. Even when I had a scheduled appointment two days ahead, I had to wait more than an hour for them to start my nails. I asked for a full set of acrylics in which seemed to not match with the picture I showed. I kindly asked to get my nails removed, however they wanted to charge me extra when I was not satisfied with the service I got. read more

The staff at this salon do a very nice job--especially Tiffany, the owner/manager. It does help to call ahead if at all possible so you get her. It is quite busy in the afternoons but if you are a bit patient, you will get a good ped/mani. One thing--if if you aren't getting what you expect, say something to Tiffany. They do want to give good service. I've seen some rude behavior on the part of patrons but if one is polite and complains/clarifies what you want, they'll do the right thing. read more

A couple years ago, I was getting ready for a big family reunion and was horrified about how bad my nails and toes looked! I hadn't gone to a nail place for so many years because I had so MANY bad experiences at salons around the Warrenton/Haymarket/Gainesville area. I looked on-line and saw all great reviews for Avalon Nail & Spa in Gainesville so decided stop by and give them a try. I was terrified when I sat down with Tiffany to show her my short, splitting nubbin's of nails and told her that I wanted her to turn them into perfect nails with a beautiful French Manicure. Tiffany was great -- she made me feel at ease right away. She asked me what I do for work and told me that since I work with horses every day the longer lasting Gel Nails would be fine - but the soak off Gel Nails would not hold up as well to all the moisture and dirt -- I was so thankful for her advice. Tiffany was professional, really happy and funny ~ made me laugh. I was so excited when I saw my hands with regular looking nails again! I was so happy after that first visit I decided to go back a couple days later to get a Pedicure. Tiffany was amazing -- she listened patiently as I explained why I was terrified to get my toes done...that I have sensitive feet and cuticles...it was the best Spa Pedicure ever. I go back to get my toes done every month. Tiger has been available when I have popped in to get my fills recently and he also does an amazing job with the Gel Nails and the French Manicure! He is focused and professional - really takes the time to make sure everything is perfect! I am terrible about making appointment's so love that I can just stop by and most times the wait is very short to get a fill and/or a Spa Pedicure. I was totally shocked by the fictitious review posted earlier this month about Avalon Nail & Spa. Is a salon that GIVES AWAY free products at fault because their supply company is late making a delivery - NO! Is a woman working deserving of a bad comment because she needs to answer her cell phone while at work that day because her husband is in the hospital - NO! Kindness and compassion should be shown every day towards others especially when you are in a facility or business for the first time. It's sad that the person who wrote that delusive review has no genuine connection with people and businesses in this area. I have come to care about Tiger & Tiffany at Avalon Nail and Spa over the last couple years and look forward to my appointments in their salon. If you want to get a great Manicure and Pedicure and want to feel pampered and taken care by people who know/remember your name when you walk in the door, this is the place for you! read more

Everyone is very pleasant and the salon is very clean. The spa pedicure is very nice, but if you're cost conscious, the regular pedicure is fine too! I have only seen Tiffany and she is very focused on making sure you are happy. If I bring anything to her attention about my nails, she fixes it right away. I would definitely recommend this salon. I have read other reviews about waiting; unfortunately, there are times when we must wait if we want to see someone who is good. Tiffany will tell you when she is running behind. But, she will assure you, she will spend just as much time with you. read more

I went to Avalon 3 weeks ago after reading reviews and because my manicurist at my long time salon left. This one is close to where I live so that's a plus. I made an appt with Tiffany and I really liked her work although since she is (owner?) she was constantly on the phone booking appointments. I would say she's not as good as my last person (who was PERFECT) but good enough. And the cost for a regular mani/pedi is 38- so pretty inexpensive. Today i called at the beginning of the morning (a Sat) because I realize I won't have another opportunity before next weekend. I called and asked for an appointment with Tiffany , and she said come now. 15 minutes later I was there, but she was with an appointment and claims she didn't hear me ask for her. So either I worked w someone else or came back later. I chose to work with a young man and he was adequate, but from now on I will make sure to have an appointment with Tiffany in advance and hopefully during the week (busy salon and saturdays are worse as one can imagine). It's a nice enough salon with the pedicure room in the back. read more

Stopped in with my 3 daughters to get our nails done before a wedding without appointments. They were able to take care of all of us. I had Melanie and she was able to repair a nail so I could have a French manicure. She explained the difference between a regular and gel polish. I ended up with the gel and was very pleased with the results. She asked if I wanted anything else and accepted when I said no. I would go back to this place. read more

This salon does quality work and is clean, but unfortunately they don't treat customers right. I have used this salon on several occasions and had an appointment each time, only to spend more time in the waiting room than having my nails done. What is the point of having an appt if they make you wait 20-30 minutes? I almost walked out last time after waiting 25 minutes, but they assured me the pedicure seat was ready...after sitting down I was not tended to for about 5-10 more minutes. They obviously didn't have anyone available to work on me and just didn't want me to walk out. I just don't like the shoddy customer service. I am extremely frustrated everytime I go there and although they do good work it takes a serious chunk of time out of your day. read more

A very respectful quiet spa-like atmosphere for us mommies who need a little destressing 'me' time. This is my typical nail place. As any female knows, it is hard to find a good nail place that every technician does a good job. At Avalon, it doesn't matter who I get I always get an excellent job. I also use their waxing services and those are great as well. When you get a manicure, they put your hands in warm mits with cuticle gel on them. Very nice for dry hands like mine. They are busy on weekends, I usually try to go during week if I can, if that is not convienient for you, try to call and make an appointment, even if it is the same day. read more

On a recommendation from a friend, I had a spa pedicure with Lan and it was by far the best pedicure I have had. The spa pedicure cost $40 or only about $8 over what I have been used to paying. It includes, a mask, leg and foot massage and hot stone massage that is divine. I left feeling relaxed and my feet have never looked better. I highly recommend this salon. read more

This is usually my FAVORITE place until I went in to change my gel and got the most rude nail tech. She rushed through the changing of my gel, left gel paint on the skin around my nails, she was blatantly rude and pushy not to mention she kept checking her phone in her drawer and even answered a call just to tell the person she couldn't talk which is extremely innapropriate in my opinion.She even tried to pressure me into an eyebrow wax not once but TWICE and my brows are fine. Some of the nail techs are great at this salon but after this visit I would say its a hit or miss location. Be wary of anyone rushing through your service, we pay good money for quality and shes lucky i work in the service industry and still tipped her 20%. read more

This is definitely my new place for pedicures!! The spa pedicure includes a hot stone massage! As other reviewers indicated, they give you the buffer and file to bring back with you next time. Great way for them to save money and give an incentive for you to return. I'm bringing all my friends, even those who don't live nearby. I have the gel nails and they were too thick, wavy, and were filed unevenly; even after asking for them to be corrected. DO NOT GO TO THIS PLACE: Had a pedicure with my teenage daughter. The water was scalding hot and burnt the top of my foot. They acted like it was my fault. They exchanged tools between customers and I noticed that they did not clean the foot bath with any antiseptic, just did a rinse off. I had the spa treatment and it was not worth the extra money. I need to find a better place in the area as this was certainly not a good relaxing pedicure and experience for me and my daughter. I was a customer at Avalon and Tiffany (one of the owners) used to do my nails. Every time I went I found her to be more annoying and condescending then the time before. The final straw was when she applied a gel coat that she did not allow to dry properly. I called her to ask her if I could come back in to get it fixed. She told me on the phone that it was my fault it hadn't dried long enough (even though while I was there I told her I had lots of time for my nails to dry). When I arrived she would not talk to or acknowledge me and I waited a while for her to see me even though when I called she said to come right away and she had no other customers. She re-did my nails quickly and did not allow them to dry because I guess she wanted me out of there for the next paying customer and guess what - they were mess up again. She does what she wants when she feels like it, so you roll the dice based on whether she's in a good mood or not. Nail salons around here are a dime a dozen and I've moved on. read more

DO NOT GO TO THIS PLACE!!! I wanted to get a pedicure because I was going to a party later in the day, it was the worst experience. The technician cut the skin of my big toe so badly that I was bleeding profusely. She proceeded to put this antiseptic powder on it and then rub the wound with the towel! I asked her if the towel was clean and she did tell me that the equipment is sterilized and new towels are used for every client. Unfortunately, I felt like she didn't care because she just shrugged off my concerns and told me that she would paint the nail, so that it wouldn't be noticeable. She rubbed oil on my feet and legs for a good five minutes, but I told her that i didn't want any color and to stop so that my toe could heel properly. When she saw me taking pictures of my toe, she apologized profusely, and didn't charge me for the service. I think she made mistakes because she was rushing through the service. Only after she cut me, did she slow down and do a better job. The worst part is one of the male workers was sitting in the waiting area and was chuckling under his breath. (I guess he didn't like this technician.) Management, you need to teach your technicians the importance of good customer service!! read more
