Rei does excellent work. Small place, personalized service, not over the top fancy but nice. What I need is a hairdresser who can assess my hair, listen to my needs and background on how my hair behaves, and do an excellent job. Rei certainly fits the bill for all of that! Reasonable pricing too - in Coral Gables where most salons are outrageously priced. I needed a perm. I have straight fine hair and wanted it wavy/curly. I've been getting them for decades so I know what I want and need, but my prior hairdresser retired. I found out that not many places even do perms without an initial "consultation". I checked around, called some places I did not use, then called Avalon. I confirmed they do perms, got an appointment, and got it done. Hair looks great. I'm certainly going to go back for future perms, cuts and possibly - colors! Highly recommended. read more

Tina is an amazing colorist. I know my hair is difficult to lift and tone and not everyone knows how (or has the patience). Happy with the results each time I go! The color also doesn't orange or go warm after a few washes like I've had happen in the past. Top photo is a few months after my first time with Tina and bottom is a fresh root move up! My hair is naturally charcoal black. You can see her skills still make even a grow out look good! Zero editing on either photo. I went to Avalon for after a "bleach faiL" my hair was a horrible orange & yellow!! All I had wanted was brown hair with buttery highlights. I phoned for an appt and Cristina, who set my appt, was so nice, ASKED ALL THE RIGHT QUESTIONS and patently listened to my hair woes! She told me she was setting me up with Tina as she is the owner and color expert! I absolutely love Tina, she really knows her stuff and miraculously she was able to correct my color to almost perfect! I will be going to Tina from now on! Simply put....the best salon in Coral Gables! Owned by Rei who is an artist. He works magic and you walk out of the salon feeling rejuvenated and breathtakingly beautiful! The staff at the salon is extremely friendly and welcoming. The feel of the space is chique, and very clean. I just had the new balayage technique done and I am 100% in love. Rei really rocked it! It looks so natural and exactly what I envisioned. He also gave me beautiful hair cut and blow dried it. I am including pics so you can all see. I went into a Avalon with a disaster to be fixed. Major color correction, needed a trim, and my hair was dry and porous. Rey and Tina evaluated the situation and not only did they fix it, the time I was there I felt taken care of, everyone was had a smile on their face, and they made it feel like a VIP experience for me. I went from blonde with orange roots and burnt white tips, to a cool auburn with blue tips. I can't wait to return and see what we can do next. Also, I saw a couple of longtime friends there and they claimed to have been going there for years, just as most of the clients that were there. Consistency and quality are very important to me, so that means a lot to see that. They also have facials, so that is my next step... if they are as good as the hair care: I'm set with avalon for life! read more

Really nice lady, but I wanted to put this review out there for the hair dying. If you have dark hair, be prepared to have stripes after your coloring, even if you request a blended / natural (without stripes). The highlighting has too much contrast, and if you have a lot of hair, they will be very sparse with the products. Also for some reason, they refuse to dye your hair to the roots, making it look like you got your hair dyed 5 weeks ago when you walk out of the salon. I had to get my hair completely redone at another place. Again, really nice lady, but coming out with my hair like a zebra was not worth it for me. read more

Sam answered the phone and was sweet and cheerful about my event from the beginning and very accommodating to my needs. Once there I was greeted by Sam and immediately attended by the staff and then by Julio. Julio is a sweetheart and extremely talented and professional in his work. I had a rough week and impulsively started calling salons with high ratings on Yelp to see if they had anyone available for a last-minute appointment. As I walked in, I was skeptical that I had someone with open availability on a Saturday working on my hair, but then I learned that Julio just moved to Miami from Puerto Rico and was still building his client base. I sat in the chair and told him to do what he thinks would be best, and I am OBSESSED with my hair!!! It's a totally new look, and people in the salon were saying I look like a different person. Came to the salon asking for a natural balayage. (Like if i had came from the beach) I had previously dyed my hair green and had a few streaks left. When I first moved to Miami from California I had a really hard time finding a good colorist who can do blonde hair. I spent 6 months with yellow hair. And then I discovered Avalon Salon. I was lucky to get Ray as my hair stylist and he totally saved my hair. Now it is a beautiful, natural looking shade of pale blonde that I get tons of compliments on. People always ask me if I'm Swedish or Russian. I also love how nice everybody is here, they really care about their clients. I have what I call "post-chemo hair." Very thin. Very sparse. Very limp. Very unattractive in my opinion. I went to Avalon Salon and spoke to Tina. She was positive and enthusiastic. "We'll make your hair beautiful." Well, beautiful is a bit of a stretch given what she had to work with -- BUT, the cut looked great and made me happy. Me and my wife visited this salon to get her hair done. The stylists are fantastic but there was this "goth" looking woman at the front desk that was horrible. She was loud and reeked of pot...she didn't seem to find my wife's appointment even though she had confirmed the day before and after a while she said, "oh yeah...here she is". Maybe a little less pot and a bit more professionalism? read more

I do not recommend this place. I was charged $380 for the one thing I asked her not to do. I now have orange/red hair with golden highlights. I came in with an idea, showed the owner a picture and she said she would do that, once everything was complete she said it would be a process, and now claims material is very expensive so she will charge me another $95 to fix it. I have never been to a place where they charge for their mistakes. It costs less than $5 to fix the color. Overpriced and not trust worthy go elsewhere, I wish I had. read more

I've never seen anyone leave Avalon with a bad cut or color and that's saying quite a bit since I've been going to this salon and these stylists for over a decade. Full disclosure: My aunt is one of the owners. I wouldn't review other than to state, for the record, that the colorists here are spectacular. They've included a "color bar" with more shades possible than ever before. They're busy and many of the clientele are returning, longterm clients who stick to their stylists for the quality of service. read more
