I always come here to do any color changes to my hair. Base is located in south Miami on the second floor of some of the shops there. It's a small and cozy hidden gem that screams posh with Miami vibes. It's hard to get that vibe from a hair salon but this place does it. When you walk in it's an open room. Normally someone greets you. I usually see Ashley first but everyone usually says hello. The list of services are available on paper when you walk in however you have to get an appointment for a free consultation before you show up. Which honestly I think it's genius. Two things: one it makes the stylist understand what is your achievable goal and two you know an estimate of what you would be paying. This way it's not a total shock. I have had only positive results so honestly I don't mind going here as many times as I need to really get what I'm paying for. Ashley is amazing at everything with coloring. She has gotten me out of the worst mess with my hair. So of course I went back to her and again she did a fantastic job. Great little boutique salon right on sunset drive with a variety of skin and hair services. I have been coming to Ashley since I first found her on yelp years ago. Not only is she one of the nicest people you will ever meet but she is AMAZING with short hair AND color which is hard to find. I bring her Pinterest boards full of pixie cuts and Instagram pictures of hair color inspiration and she never disappoints. She's also honest and will tell you what will work for your hair to ensure the perfect short haircut every time. I also love that she does cleanups for my undercut bob when I need them without doing a full cut. Something hard to find with most stylists. I have sent friends and family here too and she has done everything from balayage to highlights and long layers for them to perfection. She even did an epic color correction when a friend of mine totally botched her hair at another salon. If there were an option for 10 stars, I'd give 10 stars. By far my favorite haircut experience of my life. Perhaps the only thing better was when I was 5 and the chair was a shaped like a car. Ashley is a deft and attentive hairstylist. I came in with 15+ inches of hair and asked for a full chop. I had printouts of what I was looking for and Ashley took the time - serious time! - to walk me through each photo and see what elements I wanted to incorporate into my cut. Once the actual buzzing, fading, and snipping was underway, Ashley again dedicated her full attention and focus on making sure everything was just as I wanted - it was. I've been debating whether or not to cut my hair for a full year - part of the delay was COVID - but I was nervous about finding the right person for the job. Most 'pixie' 'fades' 'short hair' searches for Miami yelp come back 50-50 with half of the people saying so-n-so is great and the other half cursing their name. I always have a great experience when I come to base hair & skin. Brittany is an amazing stylist who knows what she is doing. She doesn't rush and makes sure I can achieve my hair goals without causing damage to my naturally dark hair. Despite all of my Covid 19 fears I felt very safe at my last appointment . Ashley (and the other staff members) were appropriately safe with face shields and surgical masks. It's clear they have been sanitizing with care and spacing out appointments for our safety. I'm not surprised, since I know this salon prioritizes health and safety, even under normal circumstances, but I felt very comfortable for the three-ish hours I was there. I have been going here for close to 3 years!!!! I can say with certainty that even though I'm a regular every visit is treated as thoroughly as the first. Ashley consults with me and explains options as well as expectations when it comes to the look I'm trying to achieve. I've never been able to grow my hair longer than shoulder length (in over 15 years) because the ends would be so dry and break. Let me start off by saying Ashley is a genius. She is literally a hair doctor/scientist. She diagnoses your hair problems and prescribes the treatment with special care. She is a tiny hair angel. I have been burned literally before at other salons specifically a very popular one in the design district. When I came to Ashley my hair was severely damaged and now it's healthy and bouncy. She is an expert cut/colorist I trust her completely. I naturally have very dark hair and she highlights my head creating a beautiful bright blonde do. I'm most impressed how the salon (which is cozy and super chic LOVE the decor here) has completely pivoted due to the covid-19 pandemic. I am 8 months pregnant and I'm a nervous first time almost mom and I felt completely safe and comfortable. Chairs are set more than six feet apart and everything was sanitized and clean. Ashley must have washed and sanitized her hands 400 times during my service. They have air purifiers and humidifiers cranking. Have I mentioned that all stylists are in full PPE masks gloves and a face shield. Do not hesitate to get your tresses washed cut or colored trust me. I went to this hair salon and had the absolute worst experience. Ashley Keenan certainly was not professional. I went in requesting my hair to be dyed and she protested that my hair would not lift/lighten enough and refused to service me until I had selected a different color. I specifically asked for medium brown and she dyed my hair copper red (more orange and unnatural). My hair lightened more than she had anticipated and I was left unsatisfied. She never offered an apology and was very rude. If you're a new customer and aren't willing to flatter her work she will treat you horribly. I will never recommend this business. read more
