Went in for a last-minute appointment scheduled for 10 AM. all that I wanted was a trim on my ends and my bangs.... just a touch up. I was going to be taking the place of a client who had last-minute canceled on a stylist named Heidi. The consultation time with her was very short. She asked very minimal questions, but I was told by the lady at the front desk that she was "very good" so I trusted her. However, I was wrong to do so. The overall experience at the salon was pretty pleasant. She made good conversation with me and I was provided with water. I walked out of the salon pretty happy with my results. I thought that my bangs were a little bit short, but I didn't mind that much since that happens almost every time I go in to get a touch up knot my bangs. mind u i barely have bangs they are basically long curtain bangs that i like to have because i wear my hair up a lot and i like the look. anyway, day goes by I have a headband in because I was doing chores all day. I come home take my headband off and am shocked. I was left with choppy, uneven, way too short bangs. I am not sure how she was able to style them so I couldn't tell when I left the salon, but it's safe to say I will be stuck wearing that very same headband until these grow out to a reasonable length so that I can fix them and they won't be too short. Safe to say this is one of the worst touchups I have ever had and that I will forever be scared to go back into any salon and ask them to touch my bangs ever again. I'm sad to leave, I don't like doing this. This place was recommended by my mom, she saw a different stylist who wasn't available this day , not sure if it would've been a better decision to wait the next day she would be in work or if I should've never came into the salon at all. I was hoping this would be a much better experience, considering their prices are very reasonable and it was a pretty quick cut. But sadly, I have learned my lesson and will probably stick to cutting my own hair despite being FAR from a professional. read more

Meh... Came here for a full foil and cut last summer. The place is absolutely darling. Tucked in downtown Elk River, beautifully decorated, and friendly staff. The spa offers everything from manicures/pedicures, to facials, waxing, and of course hair cut/color. The prices are based on the "level" of the stylist you prefer. I chose the 2nd level and was unimpressed with what I received. It should have been the price for a 1st level. She was very sweet but my appointment took roughly 2 hours and left me slightly unimpressed with the results. I told my stylist that I was going out to to a special dinner that evening and she didn't style my hair beyond a blow dry and flat ironing around the sides of my face. I received some free samples of products which was a nice touch. I don't think I'll be returning as I felt it was overpriced for what you receive; maybe if I had a Groupon/Living Social of some sort. read more

I am not one to write reviews, but I am so impressed with Avalon Salon, so here I am! They are about 5 minutes from my home and I love it. I go there for my hair, nails and massage. Hair - Jen G. is superb! Loving your hair isn't always easy, but I love it since I've been going to her. She's the best! Nails - Sara B. is my girl! She does a great job every time. Massage - Lisa T. I love this woman! I've had a few massages in my time, but I will never go to anyone else now. She "reads" my body so well and always gives me what I need to feel better. These guys are all great - I love their personalities - and they keep me coming back. Prices are reasonable for what you get - if you want cheap, go to Great Clips - and I am always greeted w/ the utmost courtesy and friendliness. I started going to Avalon Salon last year to get my nails done with Heather. She had a lot of recommendations and people seem to love her all over our city. I have been completely satisfied with her and my nails are nowhere near wrecked. She gives healthy sound advice on how to keep your nails healthy and is very educational on what kind of nail procedures are legit or not. I've also seen Tarin who has been doing my hair now since March. She also comes with a plethora of information. I am trying to go blonde and I have had several years of box red color. Because of her education and caution, my hair is still in decent shape and we are slowly but surely getting to my goals. Wasn't impressed. Over priced and quite a few of the bridal party group needed to have hair redone shortly after visit since their hair didn't stay curled...including the bride. I also think a $50 kid do which consisted of a braid, pony tail, and a few curls is a rediculous amount to charge for a 5 year old. We went back to hotel and needed to recurl. My immediate family spent over $200 at this salon...felt this was outta line for the final outcome. read more

I brought my 11 year old daughter in to see Rachel for a Malibu treatment and cut. Rachel was amazing she took care of my daughter and myself. She not only did the services I spoke about but also spent a bunch of time educating both of us on how best to work with my daughters hair. My daughter walked around for days talking about how much fun it was and how soft her hair is. They are truly amazing at Avalon. read more

I have seen two different stylists at this salon, both were very personable and friendly. The first did a beautiful cut just the way I like it but the foiled highlights didn't take for some reason she wasn't able to explain. The only option to rid my hair of the color was to strip my hair of color, making it bleach blonde. I was expecting a service cost of no more than $40. After four hours, the service was $130 including tip, I sat in my car and cried. The second stylist choose beautiful colors but it is spotty, I have a light streak running down the back of head, it looks like the color was not applied to this area. She gave a wicked good scalp massage. I had asked for an inverted stack as I am growing out my hair and the back was a bit less than 3/4 of the way to the hairline on my neck. She used an electric clipper and literally shaved off over 1/2 the hair on the back of my head. I specifically provided pictures of what I wanted for the back, used specific terms and still ended up with a cut I didn't want. The cost of the service was $108 and I left a $12 tip. Having been in a position which tips was a major part of my pay, I believe tipping is a must regardless of experience. All I can say is I'm glad it's hair and it will grow back.
