Absolutely a fraud salon. They can't do color at all. Our Experience. My 14 year old daughter went in to have some minimal highlights brought back to her natural color which is a light brown. Candace dyed her hair nearly black and then blamed my daughters hair this took over 3 hours the next day Candace attempted to fix her mistake and instead made it even worse and wasn't able to lighten it nor fix all the blotchy spots. Mind you this is virgin hair with the exception of minimal highlights. Candace then blamed my 14 year old daughter and said she doesn't know her hair color even though the majority of her hair was natural and Candace could see that. The manager was called and they claim to be refunding the money but won't bother to help. read more

Walked in with hair down to my butt. I asked for 6 inches cut off and some face framing. She cut off 12 INCHES and forgot (?) to do the face framing. I walked out with a bob. She didn't even work her way up to that point. She just went for it. It's not even long enough to put up. Needless to say, I'm devastated. It's absurd that salons in diverse communities are limited when it comes to hair services for ethnic hair. I was turned away from many. (Which I appreciated) Josephine was there waiting for me upon arrival, she has great consultation skills and explained why and what she was using. Lastly, she suggested products for My hair, which i purchased. Not all ethnic hair is the same. She was the only stylist not afraid to touch ethnic hair. Dawn is the reason I gave this place 4 stars instead of 2 or 3. I have had a couple of not-so-great experiences here, but I've also had good ones. Most recently, I had an excellent experience getting a haircut from Dawn. I got a haircut here that I was not happy with - it felt very rushed and the stylist didn't do what I asked for. I ended up with uneven ends, no layers, and frizzy wisps instead of face-framing bangs/layers. After wearing it for a day or two and hating it, I decided to call the salon to let them know and ask if I could have a redo. It was difficult to get ahold of the manager, but once I did, she was understanding and let me come back in for a redo with a different stylist. I went to Dawn for my redo, and immediately knew she was going to be great. She was very knowledgeable, explained everything she was doing, and also explained that long hair like mine can be harder to cut and therefore it can be hard to get a good haircut when you have long hair. So, pro tip, if you have long hair, be careful where you go/who you go to! I can't recommend Dawn enough!! Unlike some of the other haircuts I have gotten where they barely touched my hair at all, she went all in and gave me gorgeous layers, face framing, thinned my hair so that it's lighter-weight and bouncy, and put some stunning curls in it. She was so sweet about everything!! I haven't been this happy with a haircut in a very long time. I have also had other good experiences here with Lisa Herman, who is fantastic. I'm not giving 5 stars because of the negative experiences I've had with other stylists, but still giving 4 stars because they made it right. I will be asking for Dawn every time from now on! Note: I do have to say that the policy of only redoing botched services within 7 days can be kind of bogus. I was able to get an exception since it took me 4 or 5 days just to reach the manager, otherwise the 7 day window would have been useless. read more

I booked and paid for two spa appointments, but they were combined without anyone mentioning it. I paid for 2 services (60 minutes and 15 minutes) and was in and out of the salon in one hour. The service was rushed and incomplete. After several phone calls just to understand what happened and a lot of excuses, I was told this is standard practice. I've been to spa resorts and salons in the Twin Cities and across the country. This is not standard practice. Very disappointed. Would not return to any location for any service. read more

My daughter and her bridesmaid had mani/pedis in advance of her wedding in Hawaii on June 3rd. My wife went to Peony Salon Spa to get her nails done the same day. My daughter's nails chipped on the way to the airport and after calling to complain, she was told Simonson's would re-do her nails within 7 days...not very convenient when heading to Hawaii for 10 days. She had to have her nails done again in Hawaii. Coincidentally, my wife's nails were fine for the whole 10-day trip. When the two of them compared notes on how the procedure was done, we learned that Peony Salon Spa put 4 coats of polish over the gel and Simonson's only put on 2 coats and the technician at Simonson's said they didn't need to do more than 2 coats thanks to the quality of the gel they were using. This is either bad training or bad service but either way, it is just bad. It amazes me that this place is still in business with the combo platter of crappy service and crappy customer service (emphasis on the latter) AND the fact that a business owner can offer a re-do of the same service they failed at without offering a cash refund. Get with the times and realize that in a Social Media world, you stand to lose much more than the labor dollars you paid for poor performance of your employees. Refund the money and maybe you'll win back the customer. Continue with your practices and people will start to realize that your business model is to screw everybody once. read more

It costs over $500 to get a 90 minute facial and massage for 2 people. While I will admit the facial was great and the massage was fantastic the time did not add up to 120 minutes. I started at 6:15 pm with a facial and ended my massage at 8:55 pm. Even has I stayed in the same room and the technicians high fives at the door that doesnt equal 120 minutes. In addition, to no fault at all to the massage therapist, about 15 minutes in all the rest of the staff in the building must have started their end of the night clean up ritual because all of a sudden there was LOUD banging on the wall, vacuums running, drawers opening and slamming shut and voices of salon workers in the break-room and hallways. The massage therapist even said at one point, "I have no idea what they is going on out there". For me to drop half a grand on a relaxing, stress free night for me and my daughter and get 20 minuets short of what I paid for and the ambiance of a cargo yard with spa music dubbed over it is disappointing. read more

Took my mom here for a special day and it was terrible! The nail tech who did her nails, was supposed to do a gel fill and instead did a shellac manicure. If she really knew what she was doing she would have taken the time to do the right way. She was also very impersonal and rude. A special treat for my mom turned into an expensive disaster! Response to comment below: You may not see me in the system because this was a service for my mom. I didn't report it at the time because when i found out what happened it was far past the apt. My mom went to her usual nail tech and she had to almost redo all of her nails because she didn't get a gel fill like I requested. And because of this her nails were falling off before her next fill, well within the two week mark. I felt so bad, this was a gift and the nail tech should have known better! I understand you want to make it right but there is no reason because I'm not a returning costumer. I searched you out online and saw you have gel services and your photos looked nice. Received a pedicure here with my mom this fall. They are extremely deceptive about prices. We were supposed to pay $55 for each pedicure but they don't explain that the price changes depending on who does your service. I even talked to the manager over the phone about this and she did nothing about the situation and didn't even apologize. I had had a lot of pain in my shoulder for a few weeks and was thinking it would be booked out for weeks (most places are after the holidays). Well, I got in right away. I think it was Tuesday when I called and got an appointment for that Saturday afternoon. One word - AMAZING!! If you are looking for a great massage in the north metro I would strongly suggest Jacquelyn at Simonson's in MG, she was fantastic. She uses a technique called Myofascial Release (sp?), which is kinda like a mixture of stretching and massage. I was constantly moving, I don't even quite know how to explain it other than you need to make an appointment now. I left feeling very relaxed and actually able to fully move my arm, which for two weeks I had trouble with almost all movement, even simply putting my coat on. I've been having Veronika cut and color my hair for years. She has fixed many mistakes other stylists have made when I have tried other salons. Every time I get my hair done, I get many compliments from strangers. She does an amazing job and her consultations are very thorough. If I show her a picture, she takes the time to explain how my hair will accept the color, how much time I'll need to put into styling my hair; and she makes suggestions if I'm looking at colors or styles that will not be complimentary to my overall look. When I scheduled my first appointment at Simonson's I was desperate for a stone massage on a short notice. The place I'd been receiving massages from called to inform me that they were cancelling my appointment. Someone had called in sick. On that particular day I was looking forward to my appointment. I frantically did research to find that there were not many salons' who offered the hot stone massage service. Finding Simonson's was an extreme relief which I enjoyed 100%. Since then I have received services from Simonson's and have been pleased during each visit. My daughter recently visited Simonson's in Maple Grove to get her hair done and had a TERRIBLE experience. Her stylist was Adeline and supposedly is a hair dresser. HAHA!! What my daughter asked for was simply an all over color, but Adeline did absolutely nothing to her hair color. She also added a ton of extra charges for items we never asked for, or were ever informed of. When I called to speak to her about this, Adeline was extremely defensive, rude, unprofessional, and then hung up on me. All I asked was why our bill was over $220 for what looked like nothing had been done. I then asked to speak to a manager when I called back and the manager was even worse than Adeline. I'm not sure who is the GM or who the owner's are, but I sincerely hope you know how horrible your employees treat their customers. I've been reading the reviews and it looks like this is a normal process at Simonson's to lie about what they actually do for you and then charge you whatever they want without explanation, or a response of any kind. We were completely ignored besides a text from the manger with a list of things Adeline supposedly did and that was it. Never asking to fix her hair that didn't look any different, never an apology, nothing. In fact, they made us sound like the bad people here with their lies about what happened. I would NEVER EVER go to this terrible, over priced salon. There are several other ones that actually do a great job and treat their customers with respect. If I knew that my employees treated even one customer this way, they would be fired immediately. The reason you have a paycheck is because of customers. I truly couldn't even believe the unprofessionalism throughout the company. I hope that no one has to be taken advantage like we were. Please do not even try to go there and choose a different Salon. I know we will never go back and our friends, families, co-workers and every one we can talk to will never go back, or try them. At least I know those people won't be taken advantage of. read more

i went in to get a consult on my hair, i just wanted some red in my hair with black and my hair was already black so all i really needed was a touch up on the black and some red streaks done and the lady told me it would be 390$ just for that to be done to my hair. no cut, no facial, no massage, just my hair dyed. definitely the place to go if you want to be 3x overcharged. and just by looking at pictures, the stylists honestly don't do a good job so i would payed all that money for nothing. i could've just gone to walmart and got a box dye instead of wasting my time for her to tell me it was gonna be $390 just for my hair dyed. definitely will stick to my place that i've been going to and won't ever bother to stop or look at this place again. absolutely horrible read more

The other staff are very friendly, and make it easy for you to relax. They always take your coat to hang, and get you whatever you would like to drink. Not even worth one star for customer service. I have been going here for 20+ years and spent a fortune. Only 2 times in 20+ years was I dissatisfied with my service and complained. I went in for a highlight with cool tones and a lighter color root touch up. What I got was a balayage with very warm tones and extremely brassy along with black roots. I brought 3 pictures and was very clear in my communication. I am not going to name the stylist as she is very experienced and talented however this visit was a big miss on what I requested. Its totally fine to make mistakes but how they are handled is what clients remember and return for. How this mistake was handles was a horrifying experience! I called the next day after the service to schedule a correction and was told by the receptionist that the stylist had no openings that fit my timeframe for about 45 days but that she would check with the stylist for other options and call me back. Never heard a thing. Called back again the following day and was told the same thing. Never heard a thing. Called the 3rd day and asked to speak with the manager for a refund so I could go elsewhere and get this taken care of. I was told she would not be in for 2 days until the weekend but they will have her reach out. Never heard a thing but got an email from her a day later that I may not have even noticed that said "We look forward to seeing you on XYZ date and time. Attached is a copy of our policy." First of all the date and time did not work as I have clients too. And it's understood this is the policy but if I can't get in with the same stylist then what the heck am I supposed to do!! Be ok with the shitty hairdo? Sorry no way after spending 2 hours in the salon and dropping $195. I called the salon the next day and left a message for her. The following day I get a voice message from someone named Lisa to call her that she was retuning my call. No clue who Lisa even was. Apparently she is a "Skills Person" I found out later. Lisa called me and told me they will issue a refund but to never book a hair appointment here again. So lame and bitchy quite honestly after spending thousands of dollars at this place over 20+ years and treated like piece of shit for speaking up to correct a service. I went here for a quick hair trim a few weeks ago and I can honestly say it was the worst haircut I have had in years. A woman by the name of Pam cut both my and my sister's hair. First of all, Pam didn't seem like she was paying attention to what she was doing. Then the hair cut took all of about 10 minutes. Now granted I had only asked for a trim but I would expect any decent trim to take more that 10 minutes. When I asked her to add an undercut she did that in about one minute and didn't even offer to let me see her work. I needed to request a mirror. I had asked for some layering but explained that if she tried to texturize it too much it would look frizzy so it was better to do choppy layers. She completely ignored this comment and proceeded to cut out so many layers with her texturizing scissors that I looked like I had a mullet cut. Both my sister and I had to go have another haircut/ hair color to try to repair the damage. I don't know if this reflects the standard of all the stylists at Simonson's but I would certainly recommend avoiding Pam as a stylist. read more

Do NOT go here! I was overcharged for months! Paid for a full foil and never ever received one! Only did the top of my hair and did horrible at that. Cuts were just as bad. Thank goodness I found a salon that informed me what simonson's was doing to my hair and was able to fix it, albeit a 6 month repair process. Management never did anything about my concerns! Excellent salon, excellent staff. In April I got my hair dyed PURPLE by Hairstylist, Lisa Bettcher, turned out amazing. Last night I decided to go that route again but lighten it up a little bit, more of a fuchsia color. Once again, she did awesome. She truly takes her time, listens to what you want and delivers.
