TL;DR: Watch out for a 2006-2013 Black Mercedes Benz SUV. They work for Avalon towing and will prey on you. Feels predatory and a bit racist. It is Juneteenth 2024 and as a black couple we decide to pig out. We decide to order pizza, tacos, and fries from McDonalds. We pull into McDonalds and decide to pick up the other orders first and work our way back into McDonalds. So we park our car in the lot and my finacee and I go to pizza shop and taco place. We placed our orders in advance because the plan is to pick up the other food and then go to McDonalds. As we go back to drop off the first food in the car, we notice a boot on our car. My finacee has lived here for over 2 decades and myself 6 years and this never has happened. What a way to make a living. Predatory business whose employees and owner (and business partners) apparently subscribe to unconscionable business practices. I had the unfortunate encounter with this business when I parked in the lot of a vacant/closed CVS at 577 North Ave in New Rochelle. The owners have chained off one entrance/exit of the parking lot but left the other entrance wide open and with no signage prominently displayed at the entrance of the parking lot saying it was private parking. Parked in the lot and didn't take notice of the new and poorly placed signage about towing and being illegally parked. But it's also not like the few signs (counted 3 as of 7/18/22) were mounted in a way to HELP people, rather it seemed like unsuspecting parkers were being set up. I go across the street to pick up a food order because lots of the street parking with meters were taken up by construction in the area (due to a new apartment building being erected....which seems to be a problem in the making. I digress!) In either case, by the time I return (less than 15 mins), my car has a cheap looking boot (not like what the city would use to boot your car) plus a yellow piece of paper saying the car is illegally parked and booted. I really thought it was a prank and Ashton Kutcher was going to pop out of the bushes. Guess whose car was running and right next to my own now booted car? Andrew (if that's even his real name) -- owner of this horrid "business". He sat in his new grey JEEP Wrangler (with out of State (Virginia!!) plates!), rolled down his dark (illegal!) tint, and said it would cost $50 in cash or ApplePay, of which I had neither. Of course, Andrew knew there was a cash ATM across the street at a smoke shop, and suggested I go there to get cash to pay him to remove the boot. It felt like a scene out of a really bad "B" rated movie. Andrew claimed the cars in that lot were somehow permissioned to park there, and I challenged him to ask, "how do I know that's true?". I took pics of the lot and the location of the signage. Apparently, this joke of a business is known by the New Rochelle police department. When I called them to alert them of this business, the woman who answered the precinct's tel # said that the business was "legit" and other businesses in the area have contracted Avalon to do the same. OMG! This is yet another reason why I will always refuse to live in New Rochelle.. They're co-signing this business and their practices (and an owner who seems to live in NY but have out of State plates on his car), and the people/businesses who contract Avalon. So glad I never plan to return to New Rochelle UNLESS I'm passing through. Good riddance to this shady and predatory business which has an extreme and negative impact on the community of color. When I asked Andrew if this is what he went to school for, he claimed he has an Accounting degree (yeah right!) and has a million dollar business (another yeah right!) but he makes more money with towing.
