I moved to Avalon Tysons Corner during Covid so there was an amazing discount in price due to the circumstances. Lived in a 1 bedroom + loft which was very spacious, but encountered multiple issues starting even before move in day. 1) we signed a lease for a specific apartment and style and then 1 week before move in day receive an email saying the previous tenant is not leaving anymore so they are going to find us a new apartment. Ended up in a unit with same square footage but older finish. Had to argue about keeping the price too because they wanted to increase it because it was a different unit and different market rate which was total BS for breaking our legal agreement to move into the unit. 2) because of this, there was clearly confusion upon move in day because the rep helping us move in said she couldn't find our keys... she had the old paperwork in front of her from our original signed lease and not our updated lease... I had to point that out to her when I asked to see what the move in packet looked like. Office staff is either incompetent or there's a lack of organization causing mishaps like that. 3) AC either cools or heats your apartment. Have to ask maintenance to switch it. AC constantly broke too which maintenance had to fix. Considering it was Covid times, I was understanding of the delay in service time but after Covid the maintenance team was prompt with work orders within ~2-3 days at most. I'd give them a solid 5 stars for the work they did to try and fix these old apartments. 4) post Covid, rent skyrocketed 30% for the same old apartment... when asked what value I'm receiving in the hike in price all they could say is that it was the current market price which is expended but cmon, those apartments are not worth anymore than 2100/month. By the end of our stay we were paying 2450/month after initially moving in at 1880... when our renewal came in for the potential 3rd lease they wanted to charge us 2500. BS. 5) gate is always broken and several cars have been broken into. A car parked near mine literally had the window smashed in. Definitely not safe at all as they market it to be a gated community. They do try to fix it, but by the time they get to it it's been 3 months and then it breaks again. 6) trash always overflows and compactor breaks, leading to people throwing trash outside of dumpster and numerous rats near the trash area. Definitely avoided throwing trash out at night to avoid those disease ridden animals. 7) speaking of animals, there were occasionally raccoons on people's balconies or on the roof. They were mostly chill tho but could be harmful. Always heard them on our roof late at night. 8) living on the 4th /top floor, you'd assume there would be no pest problems. Even though we kept our apartment clean, there would be ants on our balcony somehow and towards the end of our lease were battling them for several months. That was the final straw as we decided to non-renew our 3rd lease lol. 9) when we first signed our lease the amenity fee was $250, but then increased to $500 for the 2nd lease. They did not add any value to amenities and clearly wanted more profits from tenants. 10) be prepared for occasional stolen Amazon packages. When the doors are locked to the club house / Amazon hub lockers, the Amazon drivers will try to deliver it to your doorstep. Sometimes they are lazy and leave it by the mailboxes. I've seen them post a photo of where it was left in the Amazon app and then fail to find my package afterwards. This happened more than once so good luck with ordering stuff to your apartment / town home. In summary, you are better off finding somewhere else to live if you're going to end up spending $$$ to live in the Tysons area until management addresses these issues. read more

They charge for a "luxury" apartment but this place is a slum. The trash piles up (imagine a shipping container's worth of trash piled up), the fact that the security gates have been "broken" for over two years (not broken, they're just too cheap to bring them up to code for emergency services), or the predatory tow truck. Cars get broken into NIGHTLY. The grounds are littered with cig butts, dog poo, USED BABY DIAPERS, broken bottles, and HYPODERMIC NEEDLES. All management ever does is send whiny emails to all residents and never addresses complaints. Service requests always end in "gotta order a part" that never gets ordered. This place is getting worse and worse every single day 1. We were suffering of allergies from the last year and the half because my apartment was full of mold, from leaks of the above unit and faulty window sills. Maintenance came and open a hole in the ceiling twice to remediate and left it open for more than a week unprotected while it dried. 2. Because the openings were exposed and the recent decay of the trash area attracting pest to the community more than usual mice decided to jump in though that ceiling opening and make our apartment their new home. We never had pest issues before until that opening was left exposed. 3. When we finally thought we solve the mold issue now we have a pest one were these mice decided to multiply and think that our pantry is their own private Whole Foods. We placed another ticket and took a week to pest control to come, they only work on Wednesdays. We bought traps ourselves in the meantime while waiting for for them. 4. After finally waiting, pest control came and left a couple of additional traps ( the guy only spent 2 minutes in the unit) but that wasn't enough. In one week we caught OVER 7 of these little fuckers that destroyed my pantry and have us all stress out. Who's going to pay for all the food that we had to throw away....... Not Avalon Tysons Corner right? What about our health? They can care less. Apologies for the long post but we had enough. Maintenance is meh. Took three weeks and multiple visits to fix a leak in the ceiling (right after moving in too). Landscaping is pretty bad--bushes are overgrown, weeds are growing onto the sidewalk. Have pulled weeds, cut my own grass and edged with hedge trimmers because it bothers me so much. The gate doesn't work for guests 99% of the time but nothing is done about it. I have tried dialing myself as if I were a guest and it doesn't work still. Other big thing that stands out is that the recycling isn't picked up frequently enough and people pile their recycling up in front of the bin because it's so full. The office has sent out e-mails threatening to fine people for not disposing of their recycling properly. Otherwise, there's a nice gym, a no-smoking policy, and the complex is relatively pet-friendly. read more

Fleas, bedbugs, & predatory practices -- overall, I do not recommend the Avalon apartments. The first month we moved in, I noticed an Orkin pest control guy that kept going into our neighbor's unit. When I asked him if there was a pest issue, he declined to reply. Shortly after, we started getting multiple, small red bites while we slept at night. Not sure if it was fleas, bedbugs or a combination... we reported it to the leasing office and they sent the Orkin guy to our unit. He looked around and put down paper traps in the corners, but didn't spray anything. We kept getting bit so we ended up buying our own bedbug sprays, traps, and bed post risers. We ended up throwing out the entire bed/mattress, which was less than 2 years old. 2nd grievance: when we first moved in, the leasing office told us we could sign a 2-year lease to lock in a monthly rent, but we had two options to break the lease if needed: 1) pay a fee of two month's rent, or 2) keep paying our rent until someone took over our lease. Okay, cool -- that sounded reasonable. I also double checked these terms with the leasing office 3-4 times, even as recently as 4 weeks ago. Based on this information, my husband and I decided to break our lease to relocate to NC for a lower cost of living. We quit our jobs in VA and took out our first mortgage loan. As the final step, I filled out the 30-day notice form and submitted it to the office -- ready to pay the lease break fee. But then they suddenly said they are no longer accepting lease break terminations and that we would have to keep paying FULL rent for the next 12 months (on top of our new monthly mortgage). And, that even if someone took over our lease, their rent would likely be lower, and we would be responsible for paying the difference (about $400) for the next 12 months. This totally caught us off guard -- they never mentioned this before, and the way it's phrased in the lease contract is vague and slippery. We tried to get in touch with our community supervisor, Cesar Garcia, but every time we called or stopped by the office, he was "unavailable". He finally called us after two weeks, only to tell us there was nothing he could do for us. read more

I lived here for several years, and this review is long overdue. 1. Apartments are old and cheap. I'm told some have been renovated, but mine certainly wasn't. Hope you like leaky faucets, leaky toilets, frankly disgusting water, and extremely low water pressure. If someone washes their hands while you're showering, your shower all but stops. I'm talking from a weak stream to drips. We had to buy a filter. Our neighbors agreed - they had big culligan water jugs delivered to them regularly. Our carpets came pre-stained and blinds broken. Maintenance couldn't do anything about it, we were told, but the office was happy to charge me on move out for them. They likely won't reply to your emails, but I'd recommend getting everything in writing when dealing with the office. They won't honor things like promises not to charge you for pre-damaged items, if promises are made verbally. They also wanted to charge me for the outside steps to the building (abuilding that houses 24 units) being dirty. No idea when that became my responsibility or why I specifically were targeted for that. Apparently they didn't clean them after they (assumedly) charged the previous tenants, because they were filthy for all 4 years I lived there. 2. Parking is a mess. There isn't enough parking and the spots are super narrow. I'm a skinny guy, and there were times I had to park elsewhere, because there wasn't space to even open my door once I got between the parking lines. You WILL get your car scratched up parking here, and you'll frequently have to a park a few buildings over due to limited space, but be happy if that's all. The gates rarely work, and they allow people to follow others in since they stay open too long. I've frequently come home to a line of cars sitting outside, waiting for an actual tenant to drive up and open the gate so they could all follow them in. Because of this, there is a shocking amount of crime here for Tysons. There was a string of incidents of cars up on blocks after their tires were stolen (no, I'm not joking, literally up on blocks), and some car break-ins. 3. The community's not much better off. Kids play in the narrow streets/parking lot and they have no respect for anyone driving. They'll run their bikes right into your car even if you're sitting at a full stop, while their parents watch. People smoke pot on their balconies. Hope you like the smell, because the way the ventilation is linked between units, if someone is smoking indoors it will make its way into your apartment and you WILL smell it. 4. Noise is another issue. Whether its people sitting in their cars in the parking lot blasting music at 1am, or groups of guys standing on street corners talking and playing music till 3 in the morning, to move-ins happen in the middle of the night, it's a noisy place. Management won't do anything about it, which is a surprise considering how aggressive some of their community emails can be, and their claim of having cameras everywhere. When I first moved here the price was attractive for the area, and I was sold on their "serious" dedication to community quiet hours, which turned out to be not so serious at all. I stayed another year because the price increase wasn't too bad and I still needed a Tysons location. Then when they jacked the price up through the roof, combined with all the noise and all the smoking, and everything else, I couldn't take it anymore. With all the new options in Tysons now, I couldn't recommend Avalon to anyone. read more

I rarely take the time to write a review of places, but I had such a horrible experience that I had to let people know to avoid this place. I couldn't get out of there fast enough! (please check other reviews which seem to have the same issues). Online pictures are deceiving. There are so many problems with this community. 1) There were constant, recurring issues that maintenance would either cancel or say they fixed but didn't. The AC does not work properly. I had it set to 65 but the bedrooms wouldn't get below 80. It was unbearable to sleep during the hot summers. I put in numerous work orders but it never truly got fixed. The AC would run constantly but not cool. My electric bill was so high because of this. Everything would break down and not be fixed. 2) The dryer didn't work. It would take 4 hours to dry a load of regular laundry. Same issue...work order after work order and it didn't work. I'm also sure this didn't help the electric bill. 3) When I ran the washing machine, it would make the apartment smell like sewer/dead animal. It was unbearable. Again, never fixed after numerous work orders. 4) The shower in the main bedroom would not get warm. They never fixed it after numerous work orders, so it was unusable the entire time I lived there. 5) The security gate was ALWAYS broken. Anyone could walk in and out, so when they say "gated community", it isn't true. Also, there was constant tailgating. On one occasion someone tailgated me and almost ran me over trying to pass me in the parking lot at 60 MPH. When I called the management office they told me there was nothing they could do about it. I did not feel safe at Avalon. 6) FYI...the garage they advertise barely fits a compact car and I was never able to use it for the purpose for which I spent $150/month. 7) There is only one large dumpster where you can go to take out your trash and recycling. Most people have to put their trash in their car and drive it there, which is disgusting. But what is worse is that the dumpster was always breaking down and not immediately fixed. On more than one occasion, it broke and the trash piled up in a mound overflowing into the street. Obviously, this is unsanitary and a beacon for rats to come to the neighborhood. 8) Pest problem. Ants EVERYWHERE. I lived on an upper floor and there were constant issues with ants coming through my balcony door. It was awful and hard to control. 9) Overall poor experience with management. They will not address any issue that is not easily resolved. There are a lot of "rules" at this property but they are very selective about what rules they want to enforce. They will completely ignore you when you move out if you are trying to get back money they owe you. 10) Inconsistent and complicated billing. I was constantly calling and emailing to figure out why I was being charged for utilities I already paid for. 11) Be prepared for unexplained charges at move-out. They will also try and charge you an excessive amount for minor charges, like $80 to replace a cheap plastic blind. I could go on, but I will have to say this was the worst experience I have had renting. Even with the Tyson's Corner location, it is not worth the cost and misery you will have to deal with. read more

The moment I walk in I hear two women chewing each other out...I mean horribly loud. Using expletives. How lovely!! I have been an Avalon resident twice, Two years 2014 through 2016 and again from 2017 to 2019. I have been relatively happy outside my truck being towed when it was legally parked; $1,000.00 and assorted minor maintenance issues. No AC, Dishwasher did not work, twice my apartment was flooded from the people above me. And that the month after I started renting this apartment the same unit in a different building was renting for $150 a month less. I still did not complain. This time the management has torqued me. Avalon is now charging a one time fee of $500.00 fee for Common Area/Amenities. This was implemented a few months ago. Thought my fault for not reading the details of the lease, I have been here three years prior and never had to worry about added fees. I feel that this is a completely unnecessary fee that should be included in my rent not added after the fact. I was just told that had I brought up the fee prior to signing my lease the fee may have been waved. That tells me two things. One: It is unnecessary as it could have been waved. Two: They rather take $500 now knowing they just lost a person that was happy, in spite of having a truck towed at the cost of $1,000.00 and lost wages. I have referred people to the complex in the past and will now go out of my way to say this is a cheap organization that is willing to rip off people than have them happy. Living here for the most part was ok. We had A/C and heat go out at inconvenient times, and I had two different animals living above me for a month at the end of my lease. My reason for giving 2 stars is that management was unhelpful and not understanding. They raised our month to month rate to $175/day, which is unheard of. I have managed luxury apartments for a couple years (to which this community does not come close) and we never would have dreamed of charging such a ridiculous rate. read more

If you are looking to live at a place for more than one year, this is not the place for you. Your rent will increase by more than 85% due to the market and renovations (essentially a $300-$400 increase). It is interesting that the community's corporate office is hanging their hat on that though considering that, after our first year here, our rent increased from $1835 to more than $2100, which is more than an 85% increase. That was without renovations. In any case, if you want a nice place to call 'home' for a year, this is definitely the place for you. The leasing consultants are great and always present you with a smile; the amenities are nice; and the area is safe. However, if you are expecting a place that will raise your rent the normal amount of $50-$200, then this is not the place for you. I would definitely look elsewhere, especially considering you can live closer to the city for cheaper and closer to the metro. read more

We stayed here less than a year and I couldn't leave that place fast enough. Honestly, I rarely take the time to write ANY reviews but I needed to share this! if you have other options don't stay here. Their townhomes are old and not done by the highest standards so things just keep on breaking! They try to 'fix' them and they break again. It's a vicious cycle of maintenance requests. Our bathrooms flooded three times while we were there. Every time, the flood would cause the water to drip through the ceiling onto the lower level!! Besides cleaning septic disgusting water, I had to deal with my stuff being partially ruined (two leather chairs and an expensive Persian rug all soaked up water during the last flood). And to top it off now Avalon want us to pay for the damage to their old carpet (it stained from the water). We also had a dishwasher that didn't clean well throughout our whole stay. For a year I would wash dishes AFTER being in the dishwasher. Let's now move to the community itself - they have so much maintenance to be done and instead of closing down sections and performing the maintenance while the houses are empty they want to do it on your time! For example we had our balcony closed for almost five weeks in summer for retaining wall maintenance. Five weeks!! In summer!! Also, the gate keeps on breaking so at some point so many robberies happened because the 'gated' secure community had no gate and no security for a while. I've stayed in many rentals before and I've always gotten my deposit back because I leave the homes spotless but of course now Avalon is trying to scam the deposit out of us because of that leak that was beyond our control. I could go on and on but in a nutshell the houses, maintenance and community are all subpar. Take your money elsewhere! read more

My husband and I have lived here for almost three years. Overall, very nice place to live and we have decided to stay even longer. Apartment/community issues we've had have been promptly taken care of by front office staff. Everyone in the office is very friendly and helpful. Pros - Great location, decent maintenance and nice office staff. Cons - Avalon fleeces you with move-out charges, their pre move-out inspection is a sham and their clean-sweep option is a scam to make you leave the apartment as-is so that they can take photos and charge you exorbitant repair charges. For something which would have costed me no more than a couple of hundred bucks, they clean sweeped me to pay almost a months rent as move-out repair charges. Avalon is a big time scammer. In pre-move out inspection, Shannon told us about 2 expenses, but I was charged exactly 4 times that amount for a total of 6 repair works (no response to my email), some of which are outright stupid (eg - resurfacing of all kitchen cabinets). Liked it when we lived there but our move-out experience has been terrible given these exorbitant charges. I'm moving out tomorrow! Thank god! Listen to the bad reviews they are so right! We signed a lease for 2 years. Broke the lease 2 months in. Worst decision. Super badly kept town homes. AC hardly works. Maintenance takes weeks to respond to requests. Leasing staff have no customer service and get annoyed about anything. The turnover of the houses is disgusting. We received the house in TERRIBLE condition. Infested with spiders. The garage was dirty with holes and not finished painted. Gave it a chance and thought it may get better. Spiders kept coming at least 15 each day we killed. After 4 -6 of having Orkin come to fumigate they told us personally "I would leave this place because there's a lot of fixing they gave it to you in awful condition". This is the worst place you could live at. Save yourself some trouble and DO NOT move in these apartments. Moved in here with my husband 2 yrs back , the experience initially was fine but after a year we started having so many maintenance issue. Every other day something will be broke . I developed breathing issues while living at that apartment because the air filters weren't good and despite multiple complaints they never changed it. Now after we moved out we realized there are so many HIDDEN CHARGES. We were initially told to pay 100$ for cleaning , which we did. Now they are asking us to pay for entire carpet replacement. We were never told of anything as such during inspection. The carpet pictures that they sent us doesn't seem to have anything wrong. Now obviously if you stay at an apartment for 2 yrs there will be some dust (IT WON'T BE BRAND NEW AFTER BEING USED FOR 2 YRS !!!!) . Also they asked us to pay $150 now for the cleaning service which we were earlier told was $100. This appears to me a BIG SCAM !! I moved in this May through an employee benefits program of my company. In general, this is not a bad place to live. Their staff are very good people, and the maintenance staff are great. The problem of this particular place is the manager. And the major problem I have is their handling of packages. People who plan to live here really should think carefully about this risk. First, the manager would sign for any packages that was brought to her as a list without even counting the number of total packages. When something is lost, she will tell you that she is not responsible and will make up all kinds of nonsense like "we receive 500 packages a day and do not have the resources to count them." to get rid of you. (There are about 500 units, and vacant rate of apartments in this area is around 20% and people do not purchase online every single day), I have an expensive package (that's exactly why it requires a signature) singed by the manager and lost. Also, even though the community is gated, the all the doors close extremely slow, so in reality every one can get in. The first month I am here a lady asked me where the leasing office is because they purchased a very expensive wedding gift for a resident here, and they never received it. Today my neighbour have a note on their door states that do not leave any packages outside their door because their package has been theft. I lived at the avalon for over 2 years and have nothing but great things to say about their apartments, employees, amenities, and upkeep. This is one of the very few apartment complexes that offers loft style apartments which are absolutely gorgeous. In the last 2 years all of the apartments have been remodeled with stainless steel appliances, granite counters, new carpeting, new washers and dryers, ect. I previously lived in a loft, but with the need for more space changed my second lease to a regular two bed room. I love the "garden style" set up which gives it a true community feel, which is great for pets and kids. Also all of the common areas nestled between buldings are equipped with picinic tables and new gas grills. These areas are always well maintained, and groomed to remove trash and weeds nearly daily. The pool area is the largest one I have seen in any community, and contains plush wicker furniture, hanging umbrellas, plenty of by-the-pool seating, and a corn hole/bocce ball area. The fitness area/gym contains new treadmills, ellipticals with TV's built inside, spin bikes, free weights as well as weight machines, and a large TRX stand that also houses reistance bands and kettle bells. They have plenty of mats to use, and also have bosu balls, medicine balls, stability balls and balance balls. Any ball you could ever use to exercise with anyway.There is a separate studio area with a large TV which allows you to play various work outs as you wish. As far as staff goes the maintenance staff is very friendly, and have always answered my requests promptly. Office staff has always been helpful, patient, and followed up to make sure that any complaint had a resolution. Every community has its ups, downs, and unhappy campers, but I would suggest at least stopping in and getting a feel for yourself before writing this place off. read more

BEWARE!!!! The county of Fairfax has no limit on the rent increases allowed per year. The rent for the 2br + Den "townhouse" is $2390 (Moved in 9/2014) and will increase to $3125 in September. That is the craziest thing I have ever heard in my life. I have lived in 8 states and overseas. This place is a joke. Everything has increased because of the metro station but it was already there when I moved in last year. For a half townhouse, with cheap white carpet, crappy windows, poor heating/cooling, you could live in a house not too far away for $2500-$3500, a full house. The metro is NOT, I repeat, NOT that close to this place. It is quite a walk especially in the winter or blazing heat this area gets. The community is friendly and very safe but the price is not worth it AT ALL. Just don't do it. read more

You will be disappointed if you move here. The location is great, and probably the only great feature about the Avalon in Tysons Corner. Customer Service is terrible, b!tchy, and stuck-up. Communication between the property management, maintenance, corporate, and residents is even more terrible. Communication here remains to be a huge problem even after complaints were relayed from residents to the Avalon corporate office. The maintenance staff is either illiterate or just cannot read English, perhaps both. On a weekend day, maintenance almost delivered a new clothes dryer to my unit, and would have installed it if I were not home to tell them wrong building / wrong unit number... but I did tell them they hauled the dryer up 3 floors for nothing and pointed out it was clearly the wrong address. Maintenance also thinks it is OK to enter the unit without resident being there, eventhough I did not authorize entry without my presence on another service request. The package delivery acceptance is poorly done because the concierge staff cannot read labels and pay attention. I was receiving a box that was marked "contains perishables, store in low temperatures. Fragile!" Instead the box was stored in a warm closet with heavy items stacked ontop of it. The security gates, as you see on here from other Yelp reviews, are a joke. The gates are mostly a decoration. Visitors tend to stalk residents as they try to enter. Also, at times visitors try to ram ahead of the residents opening gate. Problems with the gates have been reported, but of course Management does nothing about it. The workout facility is bad. At least 4 machines have been out of service over a span of more than 2 months. They also changed their clubhouse WiFi, which is free and open to anyone to "log-in" but the devices are kicked-off approximately 2 minutes. I am several months in on my current lease, and i will NOT renew my lease here. I would not recommend this place to anyone, unless significant changes happen. The location is great! There are a lot of things to do in the surrounding area, just be advised to do your research to find better communities to move into. read more

Update-- the property is now smoke-free. Service continues to be excellent. As for some of the complaints, unfortunately Avalon cannot enforce common courtesy (pet waste). Nice place to live. The maintenance here is good. All staff is knowledgeable and thoughtful, takes care of my service request very serious. Their response is fast, repaired everything in a short amount of time. They are friendly and deserve a five-star review. Good community, good location, good amenities and environment. read more

Pros: -Location is great if you work in the area -Maintenance staff is polite and helpful -Nice gym/pool area Cons: -Heat doesn't work in the winter; AC doesn't work in the summer. We've had to sleep multiple nights without AC ~85 degrees or without heat ~60 degrees. Why am I paying for utilities again? -Pet waste all over the property that is not cleaned up despite multiple emails from management -Poor communication between the office and maintenance staff in terms of scheduling/resolving issues. Limited notice from management is given when maintenance needs to enter unit -Gate is always broken/left open. Even when it works properly, it's very slow so people who want to get in can find a way in without a problem -Unless you get a renovated unit, the kitchens/bathrooms have older appliances. My unit did not come with a microwave -Windows are low quality/old so you can hear noise from outside very clearly such as dogs barking, kids screaming, or late night balcony parties Overall it's probably not the worst place you could live, but I'm not sure I would recommend to any friends/family. It's an old property and comes with a lot of nuisances. read more

Multiple issues: Poor maintenance of property: Grass and ivy overgrown around community. I had poison ivy outside my patio. On weekends, garbage is piled up outside of the trash compactor and the cardboard box area is overflowing. Residents do no pick up after their pets (multiple emails from the community manager to the residents do not help this situation, and it's disgusting). An emergency maintenance request made one evening was basically ignored and handled as "routine." Move-out scam: Even though my apartment was kept in impeccable shape, they still charge you for general cleaning of the apartment and carpet cleaning (so kiss most of your security deposit goodbye). You can't argue with them on this -- it's in your lease! Yay! They'll give you an option for a "clean sweep" charge over over $200 (this is basically their way of trapping you into paying by making you worry about ending up having to pay more should you not choose this option). They will raise your rent every year significantly because they want high turnover -- every new tenant pays a non-refundable amenity fee (~$500), then they pocket your cleaning fees ($200+), then they list your apartment for $300+ more per month than what you're paying. I chose not to renew my lease and would never rent from Avalon again. read more

NOW HERE ARE THE FACTS!!!!! I've lived at the Avalon for over 3 years now. I moved here from college into a 1 bedroom loft. At the time, there were no upgraded appliances, and the gym was sub par. I upgraded to a two bedroom /loft apartment because I needed more space. Now, needing a garage, I have moved to a 2 bedroom loft town home, all in the same community, so I have a great idea of things around here. While construction was going on to renovate the gym, it was a bit of a nightmare, but the did give a reimbursement for the hassel. Now, yes, there are a few rich people here, but they by no means get over privileged. My partner and I have decent consultant living and are are happy to have found the Avalon for the below reasons: 1. THE BEST THING ABOUT THE AVALON IS MAINTENANCE!!!! Whenever we have a service request, any at all, they fix the issue. I've asked them for crazy stuff at times too. Like dishwasher not getting things as clean (replaced), floors need to be re-done(THEY REPLACED MY FLOORS), walls are a bit dirty from moving in (THEY RETOUCH THE PAINT JOB), AC needs a boost (They replace the vent) ... and OH, my old roommate was a larger guy, and put in a request to have a larger toilet!! (THEY GOT A BIGGER ONE ORDERED and installed). I have been crazy with requests, and they have always answered. I do have to follow up on major requests at times, but that is expected, as they also need to go through external vendors to adhere to my crazy requests. 2. Amenities: They have fully renovated facilities, with Amazing Pool 100% staffed with lifeguard all the time. They have a huge crossfit like gym! And a spinning room! All well kept. 3. Animal friendly. I personally don't have an animal, but I love seeing everyone else with theirs. Never have I seen or smelled dog leftovers. All owners here are respectful and keep their animals in order. 4. You get what you pay for. It is expensive here. No doubt about it. (oh, please dont take this section as a reason to up the price on us, I wouldn't like that). But in reality, we are paying to be walking distance to the two top malls in the nation, walking distance to metro, and across the street from a grocery store. Not to mention, we are in Tysons Corner. You get what you pay for. I GAVE 5 STARS BECAUSE I SEE TOO MANY BAD REVIEWS ABOUT THE PLACE I LIVE AND I AM 100% HAPPY HERE. NOW, THERE ARE THINGS THEY CAN IMPROVE including the following: 1. Picking up our packages should be available after hours. LIke through 10pm. The package center closes around 6, and that doesn't work for most people's work schedules. So we have to leave work early just to get a package. 2. The office staff many times holds meetings in the middle of the day with signs on the door saying they will return at 2pm or so. Well, if I can't pick up packages after hours, then you should definitely not shut down the whole staff team for a meeting during the time people can run home during lunch break. Not a big deal, just consider this so that we don't have to be shocked when we arrive and you're not available when we expect you to be. 3. It would be lovely if we parking was a bit more visitor friendly. Town home doesn't have room in complex for visitors. There are unreserved spaces, but they can only be used by people with visitor passes. So your visitors will need to park on the street, or risk getting towed. Just a thought. All in all, I'm happy here. This place rocks. Great people, safe area, dog friendly, great maintenance. A few things can be changed to make this place go from good to great including, better package pickup times, staff meeting before office hours and not during, and better parking; But this place rocks! read more

Excellent service from the community consultant, Oksana. She handled everything with professionalism and friendliness. All of the staff members we've talked to are great. The community is quiet and the townhouses are very homey. Having moved from a "hotel style" apartment, to a place that feels like home, is a great feeling. Lots of closets which means lots of storage space! Location is fantastic, as well. This place checks all my boxes. read more

4 minutes after calling the maintenance hotline about our inoperable and thawing refrigerator, I got a call from Abdul and he was here 3 minutes later at 8pm at night! He was so professional and frirndly not only fixed the refrigerator but educated me aboit exactly what went wrong. In life, there's so much focus on events that go wrong, that I felt compelled to give great credit to an event gone right. I am so grateful! read more

Wish I had looked at Yelp before heading over to Avalon. The comments below explain exactly the problem - unprofessional management. I walked into the management office at 5:36 for a 5:30 appointment and was told I couldn't take a tour due to Fair Housing Act guidelines but could reschedule for another time. This was after getting through Tyson's Corner rush hour traffic and waiting a couple minutes for a previous visitor to slowly get in their car and pull out of the only available parking spot in front of their office. I was first asked to take a seat. If FHA guidelines do exist for the last appointment for the day, why was I asked to take a seat and wait to be told? Why didn't the their staffer who scheduled the appointment let me know about this policy; if it is real? Total Joke! I said no, I wouldn't be back, and walked out never to return. Reading comments below has me wishing I never even contacted them. If anything FHA should be investigating them for mismanagement. What I did learn was the hell any commuter faces getting through that side of Tysons Corner - International Drive and Tyco Road are parking lots so I'm glad I found out all I needed to know. Recently renewed my lease for another year but only really did it for the location. The community is just okay. Recently renovated amenities (pool, clubhouse, gym) are great, but what isn't when it's sparkling new. My particular unit is dated. Old appliances and carpet. However I have seen a remodeled unit and they look great, so if you decide to call this your new home ask for one of those. Pros: Amenities Location (right across from Tysons Galleria) Parking Maintenance Team (Prompt and knowledgeable) Cons: Gates (Super slow to open) Trash area Customer service What drove me to right this review was my most recent experience with a staff member. I called the office to locate a package that I was informed was delivered by my vendor. Avalon offers "Complimentary Package Acceptance Service" but falls short in execution. I spoke to Ariana and not only did she continue to interrupt me while I was explaining the details of my call, she gave me multiple excuses as to why I might have not received a notification from them that my package had arrived. -"We have a ton of packages here that have not yet been logged" -"We are extremely busy with new resident tours" -"We are short staffed" She offered no solutions, except that I could come in myself and go through the packages. Instead of finding a balance to deliver on promised services to their existing residences, they focus all of their manpower into new sales. If you still decide to schedule a tour at this community, ask for Tim. At least then you'll have a good welcoming experience. read more

I've lived here for two and a half years and had a overall good experience. It's a nice gated community. -Great location in Tysons -Maintenance is responsive -Best apartment gym hands down, no need for a gym membership unless you need lap lanes, basketball court, etc. -Quiet, calm neighborhood -Reserved parking, so that has never been a problem -Dog friendly -Silver line is a plus Some things to be cognizant about: -Renovated vs not renovated prices are drastically different, and if your place gets renovated during the middle of your lease expect a price jump, but that being said they helped us find a different apartment within the community that fit our budget and needs -Not a ton of visitor spots -Lived in loft and temperature control was difficult - it'd be hot in the loft and cold downstairs read more

Great location, friendly staff, professional, and I enjoyed living at Avalon Tysons Corner. The Starbucks coffee station was always stocked and clean. I was always greeted with a friendly smile and hello. Because, I had a great experience in Tysons I now live in another Avalon Community. I can only hope the staff at new location is friendly and the coffee station is fully stocked...... and clean. It's been a true pleasure living at Avalon Tysons Corner and I recommend this community. Maha, David, Theodore, Oksana, Nabila, Madelin, Emily, Sarah and Customer Service Center have made my stay at Avalon Tysons Corner memorable. Thank you!!!!
