For someone who enjoys my own company I'm starting to feel the weight of social distancing. As I write this I'm nine days in. I don't get it, I prefer talking with folks via this gadget in my hand. So why on this Island does often being the only one for miles around feel this lonely? A bit scary? 'rona I hate you. The first day I walked the streets I saw NO ONE. NOW, the one or two folks who sometimes pass me jogging as I walk is a refreshing change of pace and I act extremely friendly. I say act because although I'm all giddy with happiness at seeing other people, I'm hesitant to get too close so it's always a six feet quick hi and bye. The people here are friendly though. Sometimes, well maybe once I forgot where I was. I forgot about the pandemic threatening the world and I felt as if I was in a village in Tobago (Trinidad and) and what a peace that came over me. I'm not a beach lover and I haven't actually touched Avalon's sand as yet. I've been on the bay side but I haven't walked the beach. I do enjoy my morning strolls on the boardwalk though. I like it here and maybe I'll come back in the summer. Wait! Will I leave here before that? Thanks Avalon, so far you've been kind to me. I apprecilike you. The End.

The name is highly misleading, since it brings up images of wooden planks and arcade games and such, but none of those are to be found here. Only come to Sea Isle for swimming, there's not much else to do. It's just a very quiet, conservative, family getaway type place that's lacking in excitement. Consider yourself warned.

This beach is decidedly sleepier than Ocean City, Sea Isle, and many non-LBI beaches, and most of its charm is from its inherent "coziness." The lifeguards were very kind and vigilant, making sure that the no-swimming zones were properly demarcated and that we could enjoy the offings of the beach. Free street parking and some mini golf and ice cream nearby. What more can I say? :)

During the ceremony they play America the Beautiful, the National Anthem and Taps. It's a great thing to witness and an honor for the families of the veterans represented. They also have a few shops and Mini golf course here. Every year I stop here there seems to be more things to do here. The old cement ship is still here too.....there seems to be LESS of this every time I visit. If you're in Cape May this is a great stop for the flag ceremony and the sunset.

Sunset Beach is a must-visit every time I go to the Jersey Cape - have watched the ship off shore slowly be reclaimed by the elements. It has also been interesting to watch the little shops slowly expand and update from year to year - now featuring plenty (usually) of parking, a mini golf course, a small but nice restaurant, nearby concrete WWII tower converted to a museum, etc. I have noticed that the Cape May Diamonds® are thinning out a bit compared to the late 70s, but there are still plenty to find - which makes this a great location to take the kids & the great thing is you don't have to spend a dime if you don't want to. Also, there is a reason for the name - great location to watch sunsets out over the bay! Highly recommended!

Also they don't harass you to death for beach tags in my experience- many times the entrances to the beach aren't staffed with beach inspectors. Lifeguards are excellent and there are snack shacks and of course the mobile "Fudgey Wudgey" ice cream cooler. There is even a great Wawa in town if you are on a budget. Picnicking is not allowed and that is the reason the seagulls aren't out of control. The shops are great! One of my new fave shops is "The Well Dressed Olive". Get here early and don't miss out on the "Bread and Cheese Cupboard" piggy buns or theee "to die for" pepperoni tangy savory bread- cash only (booooo!!!) lots of fun at Hoy's and some junky type souvenirs that are fun n frivolous for all. Don't miss their happening t shirt and sweat shirt collection boasting the Stone Harbor name. Bathrooms are near the water tower in the shopping district. Things in Stone Harbor tend to cost a lot more. Be prepared. This area is crawling with money, so you are going to spend money! I'm going to provide a list and add a pinch of my under developed sardonic wit. 1. You don't have a boardwalk 2. You can't purchase food that will slowly clog your arteries and eventually kill you. 3. You can't throw away money playing stupid games 4. You don't have to walk a mile to get to the water. 5. You will have to share the beach with some birdies. 6. You will realize as you drive around town and when you get to the beach that the people and the homes seem uppity. 7. You would probably thank your stars that you found this quiet, sophisticated haven that is a change from other Jersey Shore fare. 8. And then some girls will walk up to you and ask if you have day tags. That's when you decide whether to cough up $6 per person for the privilege to stay or leave. If it is a good weather day and you are not a family of 10 (keep busy are we?!) stay!

They tell you how big your umbrella can be, and don't allow dogs during the summer time. Having visited now I can see why there might be a need for some rules as there's just not a lot of space on this beach to share. The beach was okay, but nothing special and quite cramped. There is also a lot of wild growth there that can definitely contribute to your hay fever. I urge any of the five-star reviewers head out to California and visit any beach there. You will be amazed.

Great crowd, usually a bit older and not a lot of foolishness going on here. Beach is always clean and water is great. For a one day pass it's $10 but well worth it. All you need is sun and good weather and you have a great day. There is good spots to fish here as well. Parking can be dicey so you might have to walk a bit if you don't get here early.
