Reeds Beach is a couple of spots along the Reeds Beach road. Like Pierces Point, it has homes…read moresitting over the beach in some spots, so it can be hard to tell where public property ends and private property begins, but the very end of the road is designated parking for visitors (and by designated I mean along the road, but in a clear public space). At this dead end, there is a small body of beach, some large boulders with hand painted graffiti welcome signs, and a small pine barren park "forest" area. No picnic tables or restrooms or anything. Sunsets here are killer, but you need to face the bay and the northern edge as the dead end of the road here is facing north. Views north are very cool, and there is deep water docking to the right of the road there but it's 17 acres of private property (currently for sale at $1M). I visited all of these Middle Township beaches in one day and this is definitely more busy than the others, especially for its size. It a really cool spot and worth a look if only for a short visit. Like all of the small Middle Township bay beaches, this feels very remote and private. As with its neighbor beaches, you need to drive out through a stretch of marsh to get to it. There are homes on solid ground at the mouth of the road (by 47), and also as you get out at the beach, but the stretch in between is marshland. Marsh makes for great wildlife but also many bugs, so prep for that in warm months.

Contrary to its name, Poverty Beach offers a sumptuous banquet of riches. From the free street parking on the day I came (Tuesday in July) to the clean bathrooms steps from its entrance to its friendly tag seller. I paid $8 for a day tag; it's $15 for three consecutive days and less daily for longer if you plan to beach it. Being a cape, it's very windy so I put my umbrella away. The waves are strong but there are lifeguards until five daily during the season, like now.

Walked after eating brunch, sat on a bench and enjoyed. The beach is spacious, the water was beautiful, and it's easy to see why so many people return year after year. Whether you're looking to relax, swim, or simply enjoy the scenery, it's a wonderful place to spend the day. Side note: Noticed chair rentals, street parking is metered. You can find non meter parking with more of a walk. It's huge. And tons of restaurants and hotels right across the street.

Great crowd, usually a bit older and not a lot of foolishness going on here. Beach is always clean and water is great. For a one day pass it's $10 but well worth it. All you need is sun and good weather and you have a great day. There is good spots to fish here as well. Parking can be dicey so you might have to walk a bit if you don't get here early.

Not impressed by the overly controlling lifeguards on Avalon beach! I have never heard so many…read morewhistle blows from lifeguards either. And they only allow you to swim within a very narrow area in front of their stands- nowhere else, not even wading between stands! I was bodyboarding in the same area for about 45 minutes staying within the boundaries and next thing I know an aggressive lifeguard come over to tell me to move over closer to their stand and if I had done that I could have easily run into any number of small children wading in the shallow area where the waves were depositing me. This makes me not want to even go into the water, nor would I ever recommend this place to swim. I even had a whistle blown at me for wading up to my waist! A total buzz kill! Nope , we won't be returning here next summer! Not worth the aggravation

I recently visited here…read morefrom my home in Delaware to enjoy lunch at Hemingways Restaurant at the Grand Hotel in Cape May on Tuesday, December 16. We took the car ferry from Lewes to Cape May. After our family enjoyed our lunch we decided to shop at this old downtown shopping area. The parking meters were still active even during December. Most of the shops were open in mid December. A parking meter person tried to ticket my vehicle in a parking spot just before my family visibly appeared. I was able to depart just in time. Cape May does use the Park 915 app for paid parking although I had a problem activating my Park 915 app on my iPhone.

Cape May is not just another "beach town". It seems easy to lump it together as NJ has many of…read morethem. I've always seen it as the final part of NJ and it is with Delaware being right across the water, 17 miles by ferry. Cape May sure has beaches, but it has lot's more - with places to stay such as the unique Congress Hall with all it's amenities and so much architectural history with the Cape May Lighthouse, Emlen Physick Estate, Cape May's own historical museum and much more. There is the Promenade which is dog friendly, wineries and breweries. Shopping, Food, movies on the beach in the summer and lots of Christmas lights on the many unique and historical houses during the winter season. If you aren't into all the water activities that are all available, there are nature preserve spots perfect for nice leisure walks and photo ops of plants and animals, again dependent on the season. I'mlad to have been able to come check out the Cape, right here in good ol' NJ. I'd love to come back. If you or someone ever asks what makes NJ special? Cape May is one of the answers to that question.

IMO, the best time to visit is the off season, and close to sunset. There are houses built right on top of beach, on pilings over water! The homes must have amazing views. They also have small parcels of private beach at almost every home. But there is a larger public section of beach too. The public area is recently restored, and still not as big as Cooks Beach, Kimbles Beach, or Highs Beach, but the small lanes where the homes are gathered like a village amidst the marshes are really adorable.
