Great doggie beach with over half of the doggies off the leash and running around. I kept ours on the leash as he is smaller and there was lots of large dogs. All were friendly and being watched we had no issues. Only hard park is very limited parking max 20 cars on each side of the highway before a large bridge. This was our first visit to this dog beach with our two Golden Retrievers. As many other reviews have pointed out, parking can be a challenge with the limited spaces they have. The parking lot on the side of the street where the beach is at is very small. There is another parking lot across the street where the fishing pier is, which has a bit more space. We got there around 10am and barely got a parking space. When we left a little after 1, their were cars waiting in line trying to get a spot. The beach itself is on the bay side and is fairly long and narrow. Most dogs are off leash and will come up to other dogs to play, so if your dog doesn't like that, this isn't the place for you. There are no trash cans on the beach but there are some dumpsters in the two parking lots. The beach itself was clean and our dogs enjoyed playing in the water. Wish they could somehow get more parking cause for us, it's a several hour drive and would suck getting there and not being able to find a parking spot. read more

You just have to walk across the street to the other parking lot for the fishing pier where there are spot pots someone questioned the water quality, but is no different than the ocean as you are at the LA where the ocean and the Bay meet have never seen any problems with dogs there. The Longport Dog Beach is a great place close to Ocean City, Somer's Point, and Longport. There are parking lots on both sides of the road, but it is often very busy and tough to get parking during the day. When we have gone, we have opted to go in the later afternoon and have been able to easily find parking. Dogs are able to freely run around on the beach and in the ocean. Many families bring chairs and umbrellas and spend the day there. The beach is very clean and we have had only positive experiences with the other beach goers and dogs during our visits. Definitely worth checking out if you have a dog that loves the beach! read more

This is the best place to take your pup for the day. It gets pretty crowded but alike most dog parks people are paying attention to their animals. I've never seen an altercation there. It's a pretty good stretch of beach for the dogs to play on. The great outweighs anything bad I have to say. It's also not far from the city. Only issue is there are no trash cans. They have one dumpster in the parking lot but doesn't seem like anyone picks up theirs dogs droppings. Oh yeah parking is a nightmare if you don't get there early. read more

We loved our day trip to the dog beach with our 10 month old puppy Bella. She adores the dog park so we thought this would be a good new environment for her. It took her some time to get used to waves, but she did get comfortable wading in the water with us. Most people let their dogs run around off leash. There are people who would walk or sit with their dogs leashed, but be warned many free dogs will approach so be ready! We set up a spot just like we would at a people only beach, and didn't mind doggy visitors borrowing our umbrella shade. One pup stole some of our dog food, but that's on us and just a warning to other visitors! This is an active beach day, I doubt you could read much or sun bathe. There is no lifeguard. The beach is not fenced but there are sand dunes and grass forming a natural barrier to the road. We went around 9:30am on a Friday and the parking lot was about 75% full. Everyone we encountered there was friendly and had an eye on their dog. We did see some abandoned dog poop, but more often than not people cleaned up after themselves. read more

We went on my Boss' recommendation. We went later in the afternoon (around 2:30pm) and there were still a good amount of dogs playing and having a blast! We packed 4 gallon jugs of water and brought a Big Bowl on the other reviews about dogs sharing the water dish! And some sandwiches and drinks We put down a fitted sheet and put our bags and brought some foam balls to throw and play catch. The beach is Full Of Nice people and friendly dogs of Many different breeds. Met lots of great people, most were there as their First time there, as well. There seems to also be a spot by the Pier? We didn't venture that direction, but our pups enjoyed it. There wasn't poo everywhere, the beach was clean. It was a little windy but it wasn't too Hot! We cannot wait to go back! An amazing dog beach which is a short drive from NYC, but with only one slight issue... next no NO PARKING which makes no sense why especially if its the only dog beach in the area. You need to get there very early otherwise you cannot park anywhere near it, and don't even try parking on the side of the road because they will instant ticket you... the fine is only $55 but its an annoyance because they don't offer enough space for the people who go there. Its for dog owners and dog lovers alike everyone can enjoy this place and it's kept very clean so you don't have to worry much. We LOVED this spot! I just moved back to the Philly area after having spent the last 20 years in Seattle and Tahoe, and I just needed to find a dog friendly water area where I could let the beast off the leash. It was easy enough to find and at 10 AM on a beautiful warm autumn day, we had no problems finding a spot to park and plenty of space to roam. All the dogs were well behaved and so were the two legged beasts. We only had a few minutes to spend here though, and in that brief time, my niece managed to lose my car keys. After a frantic few minutes of searching, we backtracked to the main parking lot where some kind soul found the keys and left them on a post along with several other sets of lost keys. As we were leaving, we were distraught to hear that a corgi meet up was about to descent upon the beach. OH MY FLUFFER BUTTS. read more

Great views and its nice you can bring your dogs to beach but honestly those are the only positive points. I often see aggressive dogs fight with each other and observe upset pet owners. And the worst thing of all is the parking! There is minimal parking and if you park on shoulder you are ticketed. The cops park out there all day with their sirens and light on. This spot is far from relaxing. Between the cop patrol lights and the aggressive dogs - this place is a fiasco. read more

This beach is awesome! The other dogs are friendly the owners are pleasant. Dogs are allowed off leashes to enjoy themselves.The beach is clean. Parking can get tight. The only annoyance was people fishing and leaving their rods while still fishing unattended in the sand. There is a fishing spot right acrossed the highway.I was afraid a dog would get a hook in their paw. Might I add they didn't even have a dog. Other than that my dogs and I had a pawsome time. A dog lovers paradise! Unfortunately Jersey beaches (in my opinion) are sorely lacking in many departments...no alcohol, no camping, no bonfires, no DOGS! Ugh!!! Get with it, Jersey!!! Luckily, there is ONE beach our pup can run free without having to head up to New York or down to Delaware, and it's in Longport, but known to some as Malibu Dog Beach. (P.S. spoiler alert, it's NOTHING like Malibu, CA). My little guy enjoys time spent here as much as I enjoy watching him. Add the kids, and it's one super fun beach day! Some may say the dogs are supposed to remain on their leashes, but I didn't see the sign on our last visit, and many don't follow this rule anyway. If they're well behaved I say it's not an issue. It is a little difficult to leash them in the ocean anyway! And probably not too safe either. The dog "welcoming committee" for anyone who goes to dog parks you know, is just hilarious!! I feel this place is pure entertainment! Love watching them all interact and run free! Be careful of the pups going back in the brushes however. I've heard there MAY be poison ivy and spurs back there too. The beach is short, but long, and mostly pretty clean. There's no lifeguards so watch your children (and fur babies). Swim at your own risk. On our recent visit we brought an inter-tube, which the kiddos LOVED! Can't do that at many other beaches in the area so we totally took advantage! We have also seen many sailboats and even windsurfers here too. Fun! I really think the experience here can depend on the owners of other dogs. Be patient with first timers as they probably aren't used to how their pups will react especially because dog beaches aren't the norm in these parts. We come here for our shorter beach days when it's not super hot, but always bring a TON of water and past g bowl for our guy and some snacks although he is usually too excited to eat! Oh, and beware of the other more aggressive dogs who will sniff your food out and come share your pups water! We don't mind, but some may. I love coming to Longport Dog Beach! It's free and there's plenty of room to spread out and relax! Much more enjoyable than the overcrowded boardwalk beaches that you need to purchase beach tags for. Also, watching dogs frolic, play in the ocean, and run around making new friends all day is probably my favorite form of entertainment! Tips: Definitely bring a chair!! If you lay directly on the beach be prepared for wet dogs to come say hi and get you and your blanket all wet and sandy. Bring an umbrella to shade your pup from the hot sun and bring TONS of water & a water bowl for your dog. Ice cubes will make your dog water stay drinkable longer in the heat. There are a few cons: Parking is extremely limited. There are two parking lots (one at the beach and one right across the street) but they fill up early on. A lot of cars park on the shoulders but given the beach is located off a busy highway, I would recommend waiting for a parking space to free up. There is a dumpster in the parking lot but no trash cans on the beach. Unless you want to walk all the way back to the parking lot, plan to bring a trash bag for poop, food wrappers, empty bottles, etc. otherwise it all will blow away or peak the interest of our furry friends. There is no hose or shower to 1) refill water and 2) wash your pup off before getting back in the car. Adding this would make Longport Dog Beach a 5-star destination for sure! read more

So Fun! Great beach just before the Ocean City Toll bring. No toll from Longport side. Families, dogs and a nice beach. Bring your frisbee, ball or beach chair. Everyone is very friendly. There is a free parking lot and rocks that separate the beach from the parking lot so that your dogs slow up if they should take off towards the parking lot. I felt very safe. I've been wanting to take my dog to the beach for awhile and since it's not allowed where we go, we decided to make the half hour drive over here. The parking lot was full so we had to park on the nearby road which was a busy road. There is a tiny body of water separating the beach from the road so you don't have to worry as much with your dog on the beach, but it is possible to get through. We didn't realize this when we got here so we had to walk all the way down the busy road to the parking lot and entrance which was a little unnerving so I carried my dog. The beach was completely mobbed. Once we got on the beach, we walked down a few blocks to where it was less crowded. We actually ended up pretty close to where our car was and realized when we left that we could cut through and get out around there. Hopefully this isn't too confusing to visualize lol. But, this is a really nice dog beach! I was a little worried a dog beach would be gross with poop everywhere but thankfully people picked up after themselves. Just make sure to bring your own bags since they don't have any. Also, all the dogs here were friendly, no drama!My dog had the best time here. Now, I was thinking a dog beach would be like a regular trip to the beach for us because my dog is pretty calm and lazy, I thought she'd just lay around with us. Something about this beach unleashed her crazy side lol, I have honestly never seen my dog so worked up! She loved going in the water, she can't actually swim (bulldog) but she loved going in a few feet and splashing around and running out when a wave came! She also loved playing with the dogs there which is unlike her. She was running around like a maniac chasing all the dogs. So, it wasn't that enjoyable for us because we were busy trying to keep an eye on her the entire time, but she had the time of her life. BEST BEACH EVER!! Truly my happy place and I will never go to another beach in OC. 95% of the dogs are off-leash having the time of their lives and it's so fun watch how happy they are. I've been here many times and have never encountered a problem with a dog or their owner. Everyone is chill, because they all love dogs!! Be prepared to share your water and shade with visiting dogs and keep an eye out for the random leg lifter. I've learned to pack everything in a plastic, waterproof bag. I have yet to see unpicked-up poop. While most of the dogs are running freely, everyone is keeping an eye out. It truly is the happiest beach I've ever been to. A few tips... parking is limited so plan on waiting for a spot; no beach tags needed; a refreshment truck comes around a few times a day however I still bring plenty of water/food/snacks for human & canine consumption. I love taking my pup here. Most people are super chill and nice. Parking can take a minute to wait for if it's a busy day but I've never waited more than 15 minutes (and that was on a holiday). Plenty of beach and love to see my sweet dog splashing and playing with other dogs! I drive from Philly for the day and usually stop at the rest stop about midway between. It gives my pooch a break from the car and in the summers there's a farmers market where I usually pick up a watermelon. Great get-out-if-the-city activity with friends! Edit: I always pack a cooler, chairs, everything I need for a day at the beach. I recommend you do the same! This isn't a beach with a boardwalk vibe or any walkable shops. As in previous posts, bring your own water/bowls, poop bags, even treats. Probably wouldn't hurt to have an umbrella for shade and bug spray for those pesky greenheads. Parking is free, but has limited space so you can park along the road with no problem. Your experience will obviously depend on the people at the beach while you're there, but overall good. The beach itself is clean, parking lot is small but I went on the Wednesday before Memorial Day weekend around 1pm and got the second to last spot. I took my 2 bigger dogs for the first time, they are anxious dogs and bark at people but are great with dogs. Everyone there had very good control of their dogs, once in a while a dog would come over and their person wasn't paying attention, but the dogs were friendly. It is an off leash beach, which is great, but my dogs have too much anxiety around people for me to be comfortable with that. It's a great area for all sized dogs, but definitely know your dogs limits and training before you go. I would go back. read more

We took a ride today to longport dog beach, The entrance was blocked by construction and we were denied access to the beach. There were several families with their dogs all disappointed that had traveled up to 4 hrs to be turned away. My daughter found a path though the marsh and fallen trees to the beach all the families followed and we ended up having a great time on the beach. There was access to the beach on the other side but we were not permitted on it because it was a bird preserve! It was very frustrating because you could see how close the beach was but could not get it# Make sure that the entrance is open if you don't want to forge your way through the marsh! read more

Good size dog beach close to OCNJ. Issue is parking lot is very small. Summer & weekends - GET THERE EARLY. Like by 10am. Police walk the beach warning people they will ticket cars parked along the road. There aren't port-a-potty's unless you walk across the street to the fishing pier. Also there is one dumpster in the parking lot for your trash. Most owners clean up after their pets. Took my dog here today. Was there by 10:30, got last parking spot. Stayed until 1. He had a blast but when we were leaving beach was VERY busy & parking was insane. This is an amazing beach... when the trashcans aren't overflowing or missing! I was here yesterday 8/8/16 between 9AM-1PM and for whatever reason all four of the trashcans (which are usually overflowing and stinky) were gone! So, the beach was scattered with poop as well as poop bags. Disgusting! This has never been the case before and hopefully a one time occurrence. read more
