This is such a great spot that deserves more attention and traffic! The portions are huge and the flavors are spectacular. The place is so nicely decorated and the staff is friendly. I've been wanting to try more Indian food, and they have a lunch buffet that's perfect for just that. All sorts of chicken dishes, vegetarian dishes, rices, dips and even desserts! Well worth it. If you don't have time to sit and enjoy, I've ordered food to go while popping into Trader Joe's or browsing through changing hands next door then picked it up. Give this place a try!! Craving indian and stuck with the classics. Garlic naan and butter chicken were on point and that's all you really need sometimes IYKYK. Chicken 65 was not what I expected but pleasantly surprised to see it on the menu! Been to South India (Bangalore) and this was a very different, saucy version of it. I'm no expert, it just wasn't what I was expecting so a little disappointed. I love the green, wood and gold accents. It felt like a fancy restaurant. It was quiet when we went in for lunch, but mind you, we basically went when they just opened for the day (11am). They had a lunch buffet from 11am-3pm, which we all opted to do. The place was clean too. It definitely got a little busier as we sat and ate. FOOD: I personally liked the food at the lunch buffet. I wished they had more protein other than chicken, (Like lamb and goat) but the chicken curry and jalapeño chicken (that was crispy) was yummy. I felt the dishes were all pretty flavorful. The server informed us that on weekends they have lamb and goat and that on some random weekdays, they would have it as well. I love poppadom and felt it paired nicely with the raita, mint chutney, chicken briyani and curry offered. The daal was a tad bit watery though, for my taste. We ordered two dishes of plain naans to go with our meal (these were okay, I found them kind of bland honestly.) I wished they had Chai tea or mango lassi served at the buffet too, or more dessert options. SERVICE: Our server was extremely attentive, and always made sure to check on us often, as well as refill our water glasses. This was much appreciated! OVERALL THOUGHTS: We had a group of 5 so they charged us 18% auto-gratuity, so take note of that if you are going with a group. The server did not inform us of that (which I wish he did, cuz honestly otherwise it seems to me kinda shady) but we noticed it on the receipt. And even with reservations, we were asked to leave because they had another reservation. That said, the service isn't the most friendly but the food is good. For the main course, we enjoyed the Lal Maas, Chicken Biryani, and the Chicken with Coconut Rice from the daily specials. The Garlic Naan was fresh, soft, and complemented the meal perfectly. Our server was knowledgeable, helped us choose the dishes, and explained the spice levels, making it easy to order according to our preferences. Nice atmosphere, plenty of parking out front and we were greeted when we walked in. It was our first time there and we heard they offered a buffet for lunch. We were a little confused that it said Pan Asian cuisine so we thought it was a buffet with different Asian cuisines. But apparently lunch is just Indian food and dinner they offer other Asian dishes. But that's fine since we love Indian food! They had a lot of Indian dishes to choose from and I enjoyed it all except the pakora. It was crunchy but I just didn't like the flavor. I also didn't like the shahi tukda - which is the triangle shaped sweet bread dessert. It was hard and my friend said it's supposed to be soft. I visited Avasa on my last visit to Phoenix, and it did not disappoint! The lassis were tangy & thick, but still sweet enough to keep me wanting more. Had my tastebuds dancing Bollywood. Mutton, loaded up with Basmati Rice, and the sauce they served with it, fire. FR 10/10 would fight someone's grandma for the last bite. Must order. Chicken Lollipops - Imagine chicken wings but Indian style. Exactly what it was. Fried perfectly, also came with a really good house sauce that I'd stick with, don't be dipping these in ranch! This is a newer restaurant in Tempe as I started seeing ads for this place on social media for a few months now and a few days ago, decided to try out their weekday AYCE Indian buffet. They are located in a convenient shopping plaza, where there is a TJs and Changing Hands Bookstore. Hopefully, they'll get some good foot traffic from curious shoppers. The AYCE Indian buffet is served weekdays from 11am - 3pm. I stopped in around 2pm and there were a decent amount of people having lunch. All the dishes are in separate closed metal containers, so you can't really see what each has inside but there are signs to tell you what is on offer. Lots to choose from as their was onion pakoras, fried gobi (cauliflower) pieces, several different kinds of rice biryanis including a roasted fish option, there was a chicken saag (spinach), tandoori chicken, some kind of fried chicken dish coated with dark green spices, mutton curry, chicken tikka masala, gourd curry, a dal (beans) dish, sambar, some fruits, two desserts with one being a warm kheer (rice pudding), yogurt and mint chutney. I tried to have two plates but had a hard time finishing the second plate as a lot of the items I chose were just too spicy for me. I'm a bit of a pansy when it comes to spices and this place makes many of their dishes moderately spiced, which is a bit too much for me. I can do mild, but that's my limit. If you come here, make sure you can at least handle moderate spices. There was a waiter going around serving pieces of naan, so that was nice to have to soak up some of the spices. Overall, an average experience for me. I've had my fair share of good Indian food here in the US and in India, so this place was average for me. I also prefer less fried options and wished this place had more curries and stews as options. I gave them 4 stars because the service was polite and friendly and you really can't beat a $17.99 AYCE Indian lunch buffet these days. My lunch meal came to around $25 with tax and tip, which was pretty good. I'd come back again, but probably would need to check with waiter first on less spicy options. I came here for the first time to meet with a Meetup group of 7 people for dinner on a Monday night. First thing I noticed is very weight heavy menus and drink menus. Hard for my arthritic hand to hold. The restaurant was empty except us, till 7:30 when a party of 12 Indians came in. After 8 pm 2 more tables of Indians appeared. Good sign that real people of the ethnicity of the food eats here. I ordered the lamb Lal Mas in a tomato base. It was just OK. The grated ginger was really noticeable as were the other spices. Lotta bones and gristle on the meat pieces. The colorful serving bowls are only 5 inches in diameter for about $16. Includes white rice. Naan has to be purchased separately, which cost about $4.50 just for one piece. I wouldn't come here for dinner again, because of the 5 inch bowl for $16, when I could eat unlimited Indian food of many entrees, salads, appetizers , and desserts, including mutton and fish, for $17 in the lunch buffet, or pay $20 for dinner buffet at India Oven. Service was pretty good though, at least 4..5 stars from young Indian man. He was very attentive on refilling our water glasses. Of note, the 18 percent mandatory tip is imposed on 5 or more, including charging 18 percent tip on your party of 5 on the lunch buffet too. I will come back for the lunch buffet 11 - 3 pm 7 days a week with fewer than 5 people. So three stars for my experience today at Avasa. If it weren't for the 4.5 star service, I woulda given an overall 2 stars due to value for price, and the 18% tip on 5 people. The 5 inch bowl plus community rice, 18% tip cost $20. read more

What a hidden gem! Me and the fam were craving Asian food, and stumbled upon this place! Avasa Pan Asian Cuisine is located in an unsuspecting strip mall, so we didn't have high expectations going in. We were pleasantly surprised! Avasa is certainly not a hole-in-the-wall, and the atmosphere is well appointed. The interior was clean and modern, and the entire place smelled delicious. The service wasn't bad either, the two women were pretty fast and friendly. The food was remarkable. My Dad's Kung Pao Chicken was excellent. Very crispy and paced with a slight kick of Indian spice. I went with the Butter Chicken, with a side of Garlic Naan. The Butter Chicken was phenomenal, and the Garlic Naan was the best I've ever had. Tasty food, but a lot of issues. First off, don't waste your time reserving a table on the website. I did, and there were no tables available when I arrived. Had to wait an additional 15 minutes. The decor is pretty tacky: AstroTurf on the walls and horribly done fake flagstone wallpaper everywhere. There a statue of Ganesh right up front with a lighter sitting next to it. There were a ton of little kids there, so open access to a lighter might not be the best idea. Staff were polite. It was very loud, with about 15 children in the dining room yelling. We had the buffet. The food was flavorful and I liked the fried chicken. The rice in the Beryani was perfectly cooked. Every chicken dish had bone-in thighs chopped into pieces, with resulting bone fragments to cut your mouth or choke on, if you're not careful. The food here may be on the salty side for many. They ran out of most of the meat dishes an hour before the buffet ended, and we had to wait for 10 minutes for more to come out. I wasn't a big fan of the naan--it was closer to a tortilla in texture. They refill the hot foods with clear plastic salad bowls that aren't made to hold boiling hot curries. I'm quite sure that there is chemical migration from the bowls into the food. The buffet dishes have no heating elements, which might not be the greatest for food safety. To be fair, most of the items on the buffet go empty fast, so maybe the lack of heating isn't an issue. The check presenters were nasty! Perfect for transmitting Norovirus! Old and falling apart, and those are so inexpensive to buy! I didn't use the bathrooms, and was afraid to look. read more

We ordered the chicken tikka masala, paneer tikka masala, and garlic naan, and everything was packed with flavor. My favorite was the chicken tikka masala--it was absolutely delicious, whether paired with rice or naan. The restaurant's interior decor and bar were also impressive, creating a great dining atmosphere. The only drawback was the seating process. We arrived early for our reservation and noticed plenty of open tables, yet we still had to wait. Eventually we got sat a couple minutes earlier than our time. It was a bit frustrating when a family without a reservation arrived shortly after us and was seated right away. Sadly, this restaurant is trying to be too much all at once without executing anything correctly. We at there this past weekend and were very unimpressed. First 99% of the menu is Indian food with a small Thai section (if its pan asian there should be a much healthier mix of different asian dishes) The Indian dish choices were also not great - missing some classics too. The spices just seemed off, the flavors were not like most other Indian restaurants. The one star is for the garlic naan. Also we were constantly trying to upsold by the young waitress who had no recommendations except "everything is good" which we all know is never true at a place with an 8 page menu. So I noticed that my review from the 26th is hidden and not reflected in the overall rating, which seems like Yelp playing games again. This isn't the first time it's happened. After posting my review, my entire family fell ill with the Norovirus, which I am certain we contracted from the restaurant. It was the only place we visited during that time period. Moreover, the bathrooms were disgustingly filthy, with no towels available for drying hands. This leads me to doubt whether other patrons or the kitchen staff were following proper hygiene protocols. I understand that dining at a buffet can sometimes be risky, but this experience was beyond disappointing. I doubt anyone will actually see this post, but don't tell me that I didn't warn you!! read more
