I really enjoyed Sala Thai. My favorite dish was the Khao Soi. The chicken was extremely tender, the curry was flavorful, and the egg noodles were nice and crispy. I would definitely order this dish again. I liked the drunken noodles and apps, but I think I would try some other dishes on their menu next time. It has a great vibe inside and is nicely decorated. Got seated at 9:30ish when restaurant closed at 12. Tried ordering the Khao Soi dish but was informed they were out for the day which was a bummer but was understanding as it was later in the day and restaurant was busy. However a table gets seated right next to us at around 10ish and order the Khao Soi and the waitress orders it. I'm confused because I was told they ran out but a table 30 minutes later orders it with no issue. I bring the waitress back over and ask if they still have the Khao Soi, she says Yes do you want me to add it to your order? I go yes! Earlier you guys said you ran out of it and the waitress then scuffs and goes oh you're right we our out but I thought you meant do we still have it on the menu. Now I'm really confused. And I'm waiting to see if the person's Khao Soi gets canceled low and behold 10 minutes later a Khao Soi comes out. Now I'm pissed. My friend and I had dinner here on a Friday night. It's a small restaurant and it was full, so we put our name on the wait list and got a text confirmation when our table was ready. Only had to wait 13 minutes so not inconvenient. I ordered my go-to: drunken noodles with tofu, spice level 4/5 and an order of crab wontons. The appetizer was tasty and a nice balance to my spicy dish. I like the sweet and sour sauce that comes with it. My dish tasted great and was definitely spicy. Only thing was it seemed like a small serving, there was a lot of space on the plate. Service was friendly and efficient. The Thai fried chicken was crispy and flavorful (8/10), while the Pad See Yew was just average for me (5/10). Found this place on social media and glad I checked it out! The food here is pretty delicious! The papaya salad was refreshing and light. The skewers in the second dish were a bit chewy but the flavor was really good. I always love to order the stir fried glass noodles and this one was really tasty! Not sure if people usually use teriyaki sauce in their glass noodle dish. I personally like it because the noodles were more flavorful in this combination. It is a very small restaurant and intimate. It ws very tastefully decorated. The ambience was warm and inviting and comfortable and the seating was very comfortable. The restaurant is very clean.. This restaurant intentionally makes you feel like you been invited into their home. The servers were very pleasant and accommodating. They were very well organized and the dishes were prepared with flare, and the presentation was like work of art. They take pride in everything they serve because I also observed many dishes of other patrons and was quite impressed. My wife ordered the crab fried rice and it was astounding. It did not need a thing but exploding in the perfect blend of flavors, and it was a very large portion. One could give it a sprinkle of lime or dash of soy sauce to give it nice pop but not needed. I ordered for the first time ever Green Curry Chicken and I didn't really know what to expect. I just saw it on a cooking show and it looked and sounded good. I ordered mine at a level 3 heat range. It's 1-5 for levels of heat. The curry sauce had a nice hot spicy edge to it but not overwhelming, there was lots of chicken an the veggies were so fresh and distributed in the broth amply, and the broth distinct in it's own right and so delicious and the spices were evenly balanced. It was quite lovely... There were so many things I saw that I want to try in the future. Sala Thai may be our new favorite Thai place! The online ordering wasn't working (maybe because it was within an hour of closing) so we placed our order via phone. We ordered the chicken potstickers ($7 for 6), Pad Kee Mow with Beef ($16 +$2 extra for beef= $18), and Chicken Panang Curry ($17). We ordered the Pad Kee Mow and Curry at level 4 Spicy (Spice level 1-5 or Thai hot). The Chicken Potstickers were standard potstickers; not sure whether they are made in house or are frozen. They were on the crispier (almost burnt) side. The Chicken Panang Curry was on par with our favorite Thai place. Spice level 4 left a spicy aftertaste but it wasn't so spicy that it overpowered the taste. I think it was a good level! We were especially impressed with the Pad Kee Mow and the wok hay. The extra $2 on beef is worth it, as they use a nice, tenderized cut, higher quality than most! It did reheat a bit oily the next day, but still delicious! Back again. This time we went with the street food options and they did not disappoint! The Thai Fried Chicken was amazing, as was the khao soi (curried noodles) and the spicy basil leaves with fried egg. Our server made recommendations for us (at our request) and she did a great job in highlighting some of the awesome dishes here. We had 3 dishes (they aren't huge which is good) and we still had leftovers for 2 of them! A nice tasty snack for later. Also a must mention is that this place is BYO! This Thai restaurant is small and in a strip mall and you would never expect it to be the most amazing Thai food ever!! The Thai grilled beef salad is fantastic. The dressing is zingy and so fresh, even with the spice level of three it packs a little chili pepper punch. I really like the flavor of cilantro and lime, and the salad dressing is packed with both. My friend and I also shared Panang Curry with chicken. The sauce (not overly creamy) is slightly sweet and nutty. This came with some vegetables and a few large pieces of broccoli, all served with a side of white rice. The restaurant is small and only one server managed everything beautifully (except we had to ask for the check). The food is delicious definitely worth trying. read more

I came here for my birthday today, and everything was honestly so good! I got the yellow curry and it was delicious -- super flavorful, and I loved that you can choose your spice level. I also got to try the papaya salad, which was really fresh and tasty; it didn't have that fishy flavor that some places can have. I honestly do not want to share this intimate place because the food was a surprising delight. This hidden gem has other locations but has been in Tempe for a little over a year. Warning: The seating area is very limited and close. There is a table for 6 in the middle amd seating for 8-10 on one wall and 8 on the other wall. The menu pictures are great and accurate representations of the dishes. The chef is a master as the food was fire. The dishes were aesthetically pleasing and delicious. I saw it had great reviews and can add my own. Service was great and the waitress did a great job. 2nd warning: The spice levels are accurate for Thai food. I usually order a 3 because if it is accurate, I am still ok. I can handle decent spice. Most places a 3 is mid, or not spicy. You also pay $.50 for Thai hot and I think you are brave or stupid because you will get burned twice. I had drunken noodles and appreciated that the vegetables were julienned and that there was not only large green peppers accompanying the noodles. The dish was delicious and cooked correctly. The others in the party ordered yellow curry, curry noodles, Pad Thai and chicken Satay. I got to try them but honestly, I was full from my own and just want an excuse to go back to try some street food dishes. We also ordered 3 orders of crispy roti and the coconut ice cream was incredible. I could have eaten a gallon of the ice cream alone. Stopped by Sala Thai to try out their pad Thai. Having visited during the middle of the week, the restaurant was not busy. However, this location is definitely on the smaller side -- There's about 8 tables. Despite the restaurant being small, the service was quick, our food came out quick, and it was delicious. We ordered fresh shrimp spring rolls, chicken pad thai, and khao soi. The shrimp spring rolls were refreshing and the khao soi had amazing flavor. The only downside was that the chicken pad thai was over sauced. Overall, I highly recommend getting takeout or visiting Sala Thai in Tempe and I look forward to visiting again. read more

We would have given them a 5 star for a good menu selection, ambience despite being a very small restaurant and offering great service. Sadly all the dishes we ordered were far too salty. The fish cake that came in little nuggets rather than patties, were too dry and tough but tasted ok. The restaurant itself is tidy and well-kept, so you can really enjoy your meal in a comfortable space. The food is always on point, I'd say better than any place I've tried in the area. I love the basil with egg- I used to do chicken but have been really into the pork lately. Sala Thai is a cute little restaurant - has probably less than 10 tables inside. My friend flew in to Sky Harbor and wanted to grab lunch and this place wasn't too far away. Thai food is one of my favorite cuisines and this place did not disappoint!! They have lots of options including some street food options. I opted for the khao soi and it was delicious - the soup was so rich and flavorful. My husband ordered the drunken noodles with shrimp and he loved it - finished it all. Initially, I was looking for another restaurant in the area to dine at, but it was closed that day and we stumbled upon this one while looking around and decided to try it out! After looking over the menu, we decided to order the crispy garlic wings and moo ping with a side of sticky rice to start. The garlic wings were standard; the moo ping was our favorite between the two. They were seasoned well, satisfyingly tender and not overcooked. For our main entrees, we decided to order a bunch of dishes to share so we could try more items. Those dishes being, the spicy E-San sausages, khao soi, and the suki haang. Our favorite of the three was the khao soi. Not only is their food aesthetically pleasing with adorable plates, but highly delicious too! They do not hold back on the flavors. We ordered all our main entrees at a spice level two, and it already had a nice kick to it. I would say the spice levels are accurate for Thai food, the table next to us ordered their food at a spice level four and they were sniffling and downing their water within the first few bites. Overall, the service was friendly, welcoming and attentive. The restaurant itself is beautifully decorated in neutral colors throughout, giving off a cozy, intimate and inviting vibe.
