Gel Manicure peeled off 1st day! Called and spoke to Ivy and she said I could come back and they would fix for free. I told her I was leaving on a trip and she said I only had a limited amount of days to come back for it to be free. I had never tried a Cosmetology School before but after this experience I won't be back or at least to this one. Complete refund should have been offered and an apology, neither was given!

I hadn't been here in awhile and decided to make an appointment. I had gotten my hair colored at another salon a few months prior and did not like the color at all. I called early January for a partial highlight and all over color. The day if the appointment, I was told that I was only booked for a color. They decided on a root touch up because my color looked "fine". It turned out better and the girl did a good job, but still not impressed with the color... Sigh. It only cost me $40 and 2.5 hours in the chair.

My 20 year old daughter has chosen Cosmology as her soon to be career. If you have read *any* of my reviews you know my family is pretty supportive of one another... my daughter has just finished her first phase, and the growth I have seen in her regarding Cosmetology has been extensive. Various female cuts, one or two male cuts, nails mani/pedi, facials, hand massages, chakra and aromatherapy, braids, and more! My husband and I went in to model for our daughter to receive services as a client. The teachers have all been friendly and helpful, supervising when needed, but letting a student struggle a just enough to grow. Hubby's cut had not been covered in the current phase so Teacher did one side while having daughter do the other after the example. Hubby has received many compliments on his cut. I chose Mani / Pedi & Facial. We ran out of time for the facial (due to her fitting me in on a day I wasnt schedule but hubby was so I didnt have to return the next day)... Mani and Pedi came out very good! Having had numerous other manicures & pedicures I would rate my daughter's a 4 star... the student next to her was giving a 5 star Pedi. I think because I am Step-mom she didn't put in as much effort as I have seen her do with her peers & friends. What's a mom to do lol... Her teachers checked on her & made sure she was following procedures (which she was)... This school receives Federal Financial Aid to assist with the cost of students who qualify. Daughter must keep up her attendance and hours, making up hours if she leaves early or is sick. Thankfully, Aveda does have opportunities pretty regularly to make them up, but one really needs to watch their attendance and leaving early or they will be short hours of training required by the state licensing board. This warning was given to my daughter and myself before she ever enrolled!! The only negative we have is the very long day (11 hours 1 hr is lunch) Aveda requires of their students for 3 days a week, but that does leave 4 days including the weekend free for other activities.

Ask the Community - Aveda Institute New Mexico

Does Aveda Institute offer services (e.g. haircut, gel manicure/pedicure) for the public? If yes, is it walk in or by appointment?

Yes, they do offer hair and nail services to the general public. Sadly, it is by appointment only. They book up weeks out. So expect at least a one to two week wait the day you make an appointment. Also keep in mind the services are performed by… Read more

The ambiance is very hip, with large open spaces. Everyone here including the instructors are friendly. They said ok great do you want someone Level 2 whose close graduation, or Level one, and I said Level 2. No idea why they asked me which I wanted, as I got someone (very young and nice), who she was 2 months til graduation- but did not do a good job unfortunately. I was 'alerted' that I shouldn't have booked there as she began trying to remove my builder w/polished nails in "burritos"; (foil wrapped around chemically soaked paper towels). I commented that this could take awhile and 2+ hours she still hadn't gotten all the old product off. No teachers at ANY point came by to help/assist or teach her. Lots of chaos though, with classes setting up to teach right next to our tiny corner. When we got to almost 3 hours I finally offered to have her do a plain polish, which she did and my nails looked awful, but I'd been there for such a long time. I've been to nail schools many times, namely the Paul Mitchell school where I live in Nevada and Colorado Springs CO. So I know the process takes time because they're learning; but I didn't realize I needed to ask specifically if they used a nail drill, because the burrito thing ruined my nails. They were sore and cracked with blood on some corners, so I took the awful polish off the next day and they still look awful; and will take awhile to grow out. This young nail person (name started with an A), told me that nail drills are "controversial'", maybe so~ but inform customers from the start if you can't do their nails! A lesson to self that the reception staff don't always know or listen to your requests so double check in this... ugh

Crystal (used to have purple hair) knew what she was doing, friendly, and didn't take too long. About $40 for the whole thing (see picture). The only problem was that they called the morning of and said they would have to move my appointment to a later time and I missed getting to have lunch with my extended family (since I had to work the next week). The purple has now faded and left behind a blonde ombre, which I'm highly satisfied with. I mean, blondes have more fun right? (On the other hand, my mom had come here for a color touch-up and spent 6 hours here. That's right- 6 hours! They couldn't find a student for her because her's called in. Hence, an hour of waiting. After all that, she didn't get the color she had asked for. I've also noticed they aren't very consistent about getting back to you on modeling opportunities - i.e. if they need a hair model or for one of their hair shows)

Nonetheless I was excited to help out my girlfriend and get a treatment at the same time! I showed up early expecting to wait for my 10 o'clock appointment but I was helped promptly when I arrived. The lobby is very trendy with two stylish chairs in the front waiting area. There is a large stairway that leads up to the work stations and all the students. For my facial they took me to a large room with about four or five treatment tables along one side. So no you do not get a private room, but like I said I didn't know what to expect. Definitely not a big deal to me just be aware that you are going to a school for students are learning! My only complaint is that the heating was not working in that room only so it was a bit chilly but Tiffany made sure to take care of me and got me a blanket to keep me warm for my treatment. My facial was great and I would definitely go back. I even got a complementary hand massage before I left! There were specials on a chalkboard in the lobby when I walked in so it might be worth calling if you're interested in seeing what kind of specials they are doing at any time. I'm pretty sure you can do hair, nails, and skin treatments there! I almost forgot! Makeup application too!

Dear Mayor Keller,…read more Please, for our city's sake, for the sake of our children, our underserved communities and our environment, expand the bicycle safety education center initiative throughout your tenure. We need one of these Centers in every neighborhood of Albuquerque. I just finished the brief but informative two course trainings and, just an hour ago, picked up my bike (and free, new helmet). Esperanza is absolutely exceptional. Here's how the process worked, as of this writing: 1. The first Monday of every month, at precisely 10am, Esperanza opens class registrations, and the phone lines are flooded. "If you get a busy signal, don't give up, just keep calling," advised the staff. That's what I did, and after about ten minutes, I got through. They signed me up for two evening classes which I attended a few weeks later. 2. Each class lasted about 90 minutes, students were a mixed bunch of ethnicities, ages and abilities, about 15 people total. The first course, about safety, was truly informative. I've been a cyclist for the better part of my life, I signal turns and ride in bike lanes, I still learned a ton about staying safe on the road. The second class, bike maintenance, also went beyond fixing a flat -- I learned that, for example, I'm lucky I've never smashed my face in the pavement, I've incorrectly fastened my tires to my bike for years. 3. A few days after classes, I was back at the shop, picking out my ride built from donated (and high-quality) parts. My bike: a 2007 GT Legato 3.0, built in Southern California, original retail: $700. A hybrid road/mountain ride, the bike is extremely light weight, rides like butter, and will absolutely rock when I take my kiddo on the Bosque trail. So. Friggin'. Fly. What did all this cost? Suggested donation: $40, but that's suggested and they never asked me for a dime (I'm donating the full $40, I can afford it). Esperanza also serves as a bike shop where empowered everyday people learn how to fix their own rides. To recap, Mr. Keller. The fact that this Center is inundated with calls for these classes every month, that they receive premium donated parts, and promote healthy, environmentally responsible transportation means one simple thing: tax dollars spent wisely. We need to shift the way this town thinks about transit, and it begins at places like Esperanza. This is a Duke City gem, let's keep these gears turning. Sincerely, Howie K.

You bring your bike here and they have staff that supply you with parts and instruct you on how to fix it. My friend got about $75 worth of parts, including a seat, chain, and bolts, for free. They have all necessary tools on hand, too. For those of you who work, they are open evenings only and on Sundays although hours are extended in the summer. I already like doing my own car maintenance. Now maybe I can learn how to repair my bike the next time it needs work.
