Their gate attendants CAN'T help you rebook in the event of a cancellation. My son (first solo trip) was supposed to come home from FL on Thursday, flight XLd because of weather, fine, reschedule for Sunday, XLd again for "mechanical issues", rescheduled for Monday, XLd again because of "weather" there is no "weather"! He is at the airport and the Avelo people don't actually work for Avelo and can't get him on another flight with Avelo or any other airline. This is totally unacceptable. It is such a bummer because we had two decent experiences with them and I was telling everyone how great they are. Have had to wait HOURS for someone to pick up the line, EVERY TIME. Though Avelo is very convenient for travel for us, location wise, I am starting to feel that it's still not quite worth it. Over the past few months, myself and my family, have flown Avelo from New Haven CT to Sarasota FL. Seems to always be some sort of delay. Also have experienced cancellations. My daughter and family was taken off of a plane that "wouldn't start" and was made to wait over 4 hours, in the rinky dink Tweed airport, to be able to board another flight. My son and his family had their only piece of luggage removed from the plain they were on because the plane was "too heavy"..... no advance warning, nothing. They found out on the other end they didn't have a suitcase for themselves and 3 kids. So, not only landed later than expected (big surprise, not), but had no luggage until later in the evening the next day. But keep in mind they waited for at least an hour to find out their luggage was back in New Haven. Next day he had to drive back to Sarasota airport to pick up his suitcase, which was wet and had 2 missing wheels. The absolute worst. Now, try to get in touch with them through customer service????? About 3 or 4 months ago my wife and I booked AVELO from Burbank to Grand Junction to attend a family reunion 8/18 to 8/23.. The price was insanely low. That's where the good news ends. Less than 30 days out from our flight AVELO decided to cancel everybody. My inquiry as to why was met with....yeah, "we let you down" and "we have refunded your money." No mention of the others that are in my same situation and the amount of our money that AVELO received and drew interest on for months! Why are blatant scams like this allowed? WORSE AIRLINE AND MANAGER ( BWI Airport 9am on the 21tst Of July 2022 ) I am a big Traveler I never had some issues with any Airlines. I arrived at the desk and ask for my ticket but they didn't find my ticket. I showed my email confirmation. They tell me to call the third party. I asked her if it was okay for them to confirm to the third party they don't have my ticket so they can refund me. but the called "manager" a very old woman white woman with grey hair she started to come over me kind of pushing me physically .. I didn t want to enter in a physical fight against her she continued to yell at me to go away and threatening to call the cop if I don't go away I repeated calmly I wanted to deal with a staff and not with unprofessional attitude. She still didn't listen to me and continued to yell. I told her she can call the cop. and a kind of pushing me going very super close to me physically..continued to go closer to me It was quite a beginning of a physical threat and fight but fortunately the third party answered to my call. This crazy old woman stopped i went to see the cop and report her behavior. Worse customer service, very slow and bad and unprofessional Pretending to be manager. Flew on Avelo with my family of 5 from Ogden Airport to Burbank and it was a GREAT experience. It far exceeded my expectations. I am 5' 8" and the seats, though tight, were not unbearable, and I got the seats that did not have extra legroom. Snacks were provided, which was surprising considering the cost. Check in took a minute at Ogden Airport and take off was delayed for about 10 minutes, but once we were in the sky it was smooth sailing. We landed and spent a GREAT weekend at Legoland and the beach. I will definitely be flying again! read more

Worst airline experience ever. Would give 0 stars if possible. Terrible staff and terrible communication. We were delayed over and over and eventually canceled on our way back form Burbank, CA back to Pasco, WA on a Tuesday. The avelo gate employee informed us that we would have a flight the following Wednesday morning and to await an email with the specific flight details. A couple of hours later, we received an email that there were no alternative flights and that the airline was going to refund our one-way back to Pasco. I called customer service and after over an hour of waiting, finally got someone on the phone. The agent admitted to me that there was a new flight Wednesday created specifically for getting passengers home, just as the gate agent had said. The customer service agent continued to inform me that they had already booked it completely and our only options were to wait until their next available flight on the following Saturday or organize flight backs to Pasco at last minute high demand rates from other airlines, or to drive home with a car rental. We immediately booked a hotel and car rental for one additional day after being told by the gate agent we would be flying home the next day. This was prior to finding out that we did not in fact have a flight the following day. Had we known we were lied to by the gate employee, we would have immediately booked flights home that night and not wasted money on another hotel or car rental. I would have saved money on the round trip flights if I had ended up booking with a different airline to start and would have avoided the absolute disaster of a situation Avelo left us with. If you book with avelo, pray that your flight doesn't get canceled or youll get left stranded 1000+ miles away and forking out much more money than it would have cost you to go through another airline to begin with. read more

We just finished a RT from Burbank to Eugene, Oregon, and the trip was fantastic from start to finish. Everyone I came into contact with at Avelo was pleasant and helpful. Both flights were on time/efficient and the price was unbeatable. I felt a little cautious pre-flight given this was a new/low cost airline but I came home looking for other cities it flies that we could visit. I found more legroom on these planes than most. Luggage arrived promptly and in good shape. It could not have been a better trip, and I hope my subsequent flights on Avelo go just as smoothly. read more

The WORST!! Don't let the cheap fares fool you...you get what you pay for!! We flew from Burbank, CA to Redmond, OR on 12/27 and waited over an hour with delay after delay and no explanation. Once we landed we parked at the farthest plane port and walked in 20 degree weather to the terminal. It then took an HOUR for the bags to be deplaned and finally arrive at the baggage claim. On the way home on 12/31 they had ONE guy who was checking everyone's baggage. He was ALSO the one at the gate boarding passengers. He was working with NO sense of urgency as the minutes ticked by. He finally arrived at our gate 30 minutes after our flight was supposed to take off. Once we boarded, the attendant kept repeating how annoying the mask policy was but that they had to enforce it. We were ready to take off when we pulled out and we're informed that the runway needed to be plowed now...probably because it took so darn long to check everyone in!! We are now sitting out on the tarmac. No updates or communication...not sure if we will even get out today...will NEVER fly Avelo again!!! read more

I had a horrible customer service experience with Avelo Airlines after I had to cancel my ticket due to contracting covid. I wasn't able to re-schedule the flight and had to cancel and asked if I could transfer the ticket to someone else (as I wouldn't be able to use the credit seeing as I live out of the country) or get a partial refund. At the time of cancelation they told me to email their customer service with my request as they couldn't help me over the phone. I sent 3 emails with no response. Finally I called their customer service number again. After explaining my situation, the agent - who sounded like he was working in his living room with loud background noises, after being very unhelpful, hung up on me. I was appalled by this service and vowed to never book with them again should I make it back to the States. I felt really disappointed and disrespected. read more

Avelo is the worst. I fly direct from Pasco to Burbank and they managed to lose my bag. At the Burbank Airport, Avelo has NO STAFF and simply a sign saying what number to call if you have not found your baggage. I sat on hold for 2 HOURS the next day and was told to simply fill out a form and email it directly to Avelo. The phone operator had NO IDEA AT ALL WHERE MY BAG WAS AND NO WAY TO FIND OUT. The manager was equally clueless. It took one week for Avelo to find my bag and deliver it to my house. I pestered them for over a month to refund my $50 bag fee. FINALLY I was issued and Avelo Travel Fund for $50. I asked them to put the $50 back on my credit or issue me a check instead of Avelo credit. I was then told that "No further compensation will be offered at this time." Avelo blows. If everything goes perfectly it's "fine". If ANYTHING goes wrong...a delay...missing bag...etc. you are totally screwed because Avelo does everything so cheaply with minimal staff. The big question is: Where else do they cut corners!?!?! read more

Departed New Haven CT for Ft Myers Florida for 10 days on April 19, 2022 for wedding and golf trip Baggage clerk in New Haven sent all 4 of my bags(2 suitcases, 2 hard golf carriers) to Sarasota Fla. After literally hours on the phone with Avelo dealing with extremely rude, indifferent employees, I offered to drive to Sarasota to pick up the bags the next day. But no, yet another person in the long line of incompetent Avelo employees sent all 4 of my bags back to New Haven CT. I received 3 of the 4 bags via Fed Ex 3 days later. Missing(and still missing ) was a suitcase that contained valuables for a planned wedding on April 22 2022. Wedding canceled . Golf tee times canceled . Vacation ruined . In Florida with only the clothes on our back for days as a direct result of a continuous seemingly never ending line of incompetence and unprofessionalism . Communication with Avelo has ranged from sporadic to non-existent and all of it has been dealt with by Avelo with extreme indifference . This airline and airport are a disaster in every way. If youre ok with lost luggage and a shockingly short landing runway, Avelo is for you. This operation deserves zero stars. My family flew Avelo for Christmas vacation to Florida. It was a terrible idea. While it is supposed to be a cheap way to fly we didn't really save much money. The tickets from New Haven CT were $800 each. The planes are ancient, so that you can't charge a phone or even listen to music, they don't even have the old school radios in the arm rest. There is no food only warm water but only if you ask for it. They know they suck so they hide from customers. Good luck finding someone to ask questions of. Our flight was supposed to depart at 11:45 and we received a notification via email saying it was delayed but the web site wasn't showing that. When we arrived at the airport the boards all said it was on time. When we were checking our bags we were told it was on time. When we arrived at the gate there was no agent at the desk and there was no plane. Our boarding time came and went with no update and no one to speak with. As of my writing this we still haven't been told anything but the website now says it will depart at 2:30 which is thee hours late and I won't be holding my breath that we will depart then either. Just finished my 2nd flight out oh New Haven. Happy with all except the very high baggage price of $35 in advance. But tix price was decent. Look for their little coupons of $15-20 off the flight. Planes are nice. Heard they are bought from Turkish Airlines about 14 years old. Refurbishment here, nice seats. They will leave early once all board and arrive early. Tweed still needs some work. Not enough seating and bring umbrella if rains. Need to walk on tarmac up steps. Heard they may add coffee to the tiny cookie and tiny bottle of water. Spirit even sells water so good competition. All four legs of my flights were pretty full so think they are doing well. read more

By far my worst flight experience. My scheduled take off time from HVN was 5:40pm. Around that time we were told that the flight would be delayed to around 7:30 take off. The flight was they re-delayed multiple times ranging from at take off at 6:30, 7:50, 7:00, and back to 7:50. When I asked the staff what was going on the response was "we are doing the best we can", which I understand; however when you have an entire flights worth of individuals confused on why so many delays, a true explanation should not be that hard to provide - whether it be weather, plane issues, etc. the people deserve to know. Avelo Airlines staff are horrible with communication and delays. In addition, their check in process is awful as they check people in by their flights instead of their place in line causing more backup and confusion. I am now boarding my 5:40 flight at 8:07pm still with no explanation of why it was delayed. Avelo might be a cheap way to travel to certain places via a direct flight, but they are not worth the confusion or hassle. read more

When purchasing an airling ticket, am I buying my way through the door of the plane? Or am I buying the right to sit on the plane like a human being? I have reasonably assumed I am buying a right to sit on the plane. Then, as an extra service, I can pay extra to select a seat. The extra fee is for the right to *select* a seat, a service fee, not for the right to sit on the plane, as I have already purchased the right to sit on the plane with the airline ticket. Right??? Well, I chose to decline the service of selecting my seat and allow Avelo to place me wherever they see fit. Now, upon check-in, they told me it is a full flight and the only available seats are in the emergency row and I have to pay another fee to board the plane and go home. I said no, I chose to decline seat selection so Avelo has to chose a seat for me, as I already bought the right to sit on their plane with the airline ticket, whether or not I decline the service of choosing a seat. They said I can either pay again to board their plane and fly home, or I can chose not to fly with them. At NO POINT at the point of purchase of this ticket did they state any of this when bypassing the seat selection. I just checked by working through the purchase process with Avelo again... when seat selection window appears, there is NO message anywhere that states you could be forced to pay the maximum amount for a seat if you dont choose one and the flight fills, leaving only exit rows available. And also, exit rows carry with them extra responsibility, not an additional value, so why the exorbitant fee?? Long short, They strong-arm hustled me. And what this says is they believe that I had to pay for the right to sit on the plane separately from my right to board the plane. So when you buy an airline ticket with Avelo, you are worth less to them than a checked bag in the cargo hold until you buy the right to sit on the plane ON TOP of the airline ticket to board. Screw them. Do not give money to a company with such shady unethical business practices and no appreciation to personhood. I've been on hold for 35min at the airport to file formal complaint hopefully get my money back. If I don't get to speak with someone at Avelo who will help me resolve this before I board, I will be reporting this incident to Department of Consumer Affairs in FL and CT, (departing & arriving states) and the Better Business Bureau. read more

I was very impressed with the pricing, however when they say "You get what you pay for" they mean it. I traveled with two people who were disabled, and after paying for our tickets (which were about $120 each) afterwards we asked for an accommodation to sit together because my friend needs help getting up. Their response to us was "you need to pay for your chosen seats" and "we aren't just going to give you free seats". I'm sorry, but FREE SEATS? You mean the ones we paid $120 for? Delta and United have always accommodated my party (we travel a lot together) at no extra costs, no questions asked. However, Avelo asked many question including: "What's your condition? You have that and you don't need a wheelchair?" After my friend was adamant about not needing a wheelchair, but needing a friend (preferably not a stranger) nearby to help. My friend later went on to say that them asking questions was illegal, and the representative said "I don't see how asking what you have is illegal". I was so furious that I ended up calling a representative and he gave me the same BS saying "We can't give you free seats". they said 24 hours before the flight our seats will likely land together since they were purchased together. However my friend could not rely on chance, she needed us near her. I asked to speak with a manage, 20 minutes later the same man obliged. I said thank you, however I would still like to speak with a manager for the service my friend and I have gotten. The manager was very apologetic, but the damage was done. Didn't offer flight credit or anything. In total, my friend and I probably sat on hold for three hours. Granted, paying for the seats would have cost $10 each, but it was the point. You accommodate those who need it. ESPECIALLY when they have documentation. THEN they Lost my bag on the way home. They said call this customer service number and they'll take care of it for you. It has been TWO WHOLE WEEKS and I still don't have my bag. Apparently it was found about two or three days later, it was left in LA. Then it got shipped to Medford and SAT IN AN OFFICE FOR SIX DAYS. They told me since day one that they would ship it to my house because I made it clear that I lived three hours from the airport. I filed a missing bags claim and was never reached out to by ANYONE. Not by phone, email, nothing. The amount of waiting and callbacks I had to wait for was absurd.
