I found this place 1.5 years ago and I am so happy i stumbled across it. My family is originally from Michigan so i figured i would give this pizza a try. The Detroit style pizza here is amazing!!!! The edges are so crispy and the cheese and sauce is very flavorful. I tried long cross in medford, not nearly as good as this. This is my favorite pizza by far! Great addition to Somerville. Small place, bar and maybe 15 tables. Pizzas, burgers, apps, is about it. I got the mussels app. Very fresh and good in a curry sauce. I like it a little spicier. Went for drinks and pizzas on the late night menu, Got the beef barbacoa and rabe mushroom pizza both were excellent. Great beer options on draft like Lawson's Sip of Sunshine and Lord Hobo Freebird. Tried the Last Word cocktail as well, blend of gin and luxardo liqueur with a touch of green chartreuse and lime was original and elegant. Been here 4 times now and in my humble opinion this place has gone from Great New Option to Local Favorite. Amazing food (great options for dietary restrictions), excellent drinks, and a laid-back edgy ambiance that perfectly reflects the Anthony Bourdain quotes painted on the walls. I went to Avenue for brunch with my wife after a morning workout so we were very hungry for some food. She got the Avocado Toast and I got the Power Bowl. Both were fantastic and fulfilled our appetites. There is something in the sweet tots that is addicting! I wanted to try one of the Detroit style pizzas but I was too stuffed. I should have gotten one to go! The bar was great and I can see this being an awesome spot for drinks and dinner at night. I will definitely be coming back for Trivia night at some point. read more

I'm gonna give it five stars, but I just want to leave my two cents without mucking up the rating. I'm glad the restaurant is here in the neighborhood. I think the music selection could be a bit better. Every time I go in the same band that kind of sounds like sublime is playing. It's kinda terrible. Also, for the Detroit style pizza, I kind of expected a whole lot more pepperoni on top (like every square inch) and for the pepperonis to turn into little cups of grease. If totally pay more for that. Also, the bottom of the pie could be a little more well done. But the cheese is fantastic, love it. Despite my qualms, I shall be back. Utterly spectacular Detroit-Style pizza. Head and shoulders better than 95% of the pizza that I have had in New England. A true treat. And their draft beer list is beautifully curated with a great selection of IIPAs and IPAs. Only downside was that the black garlic hummus was bland. read more

Discovered brunch at Avenue a few weeks ago with my husband, and we're so glad we did! It was quiet but we were told that they had just started serving brunch for a few weeks at that point so we considered ourselves lucky that we beat everyone to the punch before word gets out! We sat at the bar and service was quick, attentive, and friendly - we both ordered ice coffees which came quickly. For brunch, we ordered a fruit plate to split (delicious and fresh, and had some leftovers to take home!), my husband got the french toast and I got the Johnny Cake. My husband loved the french toast - for french toast he commented on how light it was but still super flavorful - he ate the whole plate. The Johnny Cake was HUGE (took up the whole plate!) and being a corn cake wasn't as fluffy as a regular pancake, but despite that I devoured almost half of it, it was that good! All in all, a great brunch experience. Happy to have this restaurant in the area when everything else is getting a bit tired - can't wait to go back! read more

Who knew how good Detroit pizza was? Many people in Detroit for sure but not me. Been here twice. The pizza is great - The Reg with sausage onion and mushroom and the Mushroom and Rabe. Cocktails are good and the beer selection really good. The surprise was how good the salad was. Service was helpful both times. Nice little patio for those who like to stay out of doors. Worth the trip. Great neighborhood joint with excellent food and drinks. I didn't even know Detroit style pizza was a thing, but we loved it. Now I have a better sense for how Darwin felt. Get the reg with pepperoni. Also tried the shishito peppers, the salt cod nuggets, and the miso salmon - all terrific. The Mac and Cheese was better than most, but not at same level as rest of dishes offered, but a nice shared side. Good beer and cocktail selection. Very comfortable atmosphere, staff was very friendly and offered the right level of attentiveness. We will go back. read more

This place is awesome. Small place tucked in Ball Square. It's literally 2 blocks from my house. They have a small menu but every dish is worth trying not to mention REAL Detroit style pizza. They have a full bar. The service can be a little slow but it's small enough that it's easy to be noticed it you flag down the wait staff. The food portions are truly enough for sharing between two people. It's definitely becoming a regular hang out. read more

My wife and I had an outstanding meal with our 15 month old daughter. They have a surprisingly good kids menu. Seriously, it might be the best kids menu in Somerville. The service was excellent. There was a graduation party going on and we still got prompt service on drinks, food, refills, etc. The beer list here is top notch. My favorite neighborhood hangout. The pizza is to die for. The entrees are great when I want something besides pizza. The apps and sides are great when I just want some to go with my drinks. My wife, originally hailing from Bavaria, loves the beers she's had. I love the wines. The vibe is warm, friendly, and inviting. The screens have whatever game is on if that's your thing, and the people at the bar are always friendly when I'm there for that. My fiance and I live in the Ball Sq area and have always complained how the other local brunch establishments (Soundbites, Ball Sq Cafe, etc) are over-hyped. When Avenue Kitchen + Bar started serving brunch a few weeks ago, we decided to give it a try. We had previously eaten lunch there and were impressed by pizza and the beers on draft (how many other places have Sip of Sunshine, Lone Pine and 2 Maine Beer Co's on draft??). Avenue did not disappoint with their brunch. What I like in particular was they divided their brunch menu into breakfast-side and lunch-side, giving you plenty of options to choose from. For those who also hate it when everything on a brunch menu has eggs, this was a welcome relief. Sometimes, you just want a nice burger or salad and no eggs. And yes, they're also slinging pizzas all day. My fiance had the breakfast sandwich with tater tots. It was tasty with a nice sweet maple flavor that brought a little something different to what's normally a plain, on-the-go option. I had the BLTE which I cannot speak more highly about. The Portuguese bread was fantastic and while I initially had reservations about the pimento cheese spread, it turned out to add a great flavor complexity to an old menu stand-by. This place has great pizza...thick crust but crispy Detroit style pizza. The bowls are quite large, delicious, and customizable. There are great veggie and vegan options. The cocktails are also fantastic. The back deck is nice and secluded. We were looking for a quick bite to eat this past Monday and found this restaurant via Yelp. We're Somerville locals and knew that the previous restaurant (Pescatore) closed a while but didn't know this place recently opened. We are happy to say that the place is very credible if you're looking for a nice, friendly and high quality place to hangout and/or get some really good food. We had the salt cod bites and the roasted beet salad for apps then split one of their Detroit style pepperoni pizzas. All very good with a special hat tip by me for the salt cod app. Pizza is different but very tasty. The bartender (Russell) was very good at his drink making skills and personality. We also had a chance to chat with the owners Kenny and Gino. Very nice people. The atmosphere is not trendy or off-putting. The decor is simple but it works. They also have outdoor patio sitting. We will most certainly go again and would recommend this place. Since Ball Sq is going thru a lot of roadwork now, it's good to support the local businesses as much as possible. We've been to Avenue about five times now, and I think I have to declare it my new favorite restaurant in Somerville. The ambience is nice and cozy and the menu is diverse enough to satisfy anyone in your party, while narrow enough to do everything right. I can definitely recommend the chicken sandwich, Mac and cheese, and any of their delicious Detroit style pizza. Another bonus for me is that they're very kid friendly. They have the standard kids menu options, but also provide a la carte options ( like a fruit cup, hard boiled egg, or half an avocado) which are perfect for my toddler aged kiddo. The service has also been great on every visit. This is definitely in our new "dinner out" rotation! read more

We decided to order take out for Mother's Day. Avenue had a nice Mother's Day dinner package including Lobster rolls, sweet potato fries, tiramisu and rose wine.
