This is an unassuming establishment that I walk past on a weekly basis. I finally made it a point to try it out. I ordered a pick up order over the phone, since I really wanted a fried clam plate, but it wasn't an option on their internet ordering platform. The pickup process was pretty smooth, I was given an order number over the phone but didn't even need to use it when I picked up my food. The interior of the restaurant itself wasn't anything flashy, it probably had more of a old diner cafeteria type vibe. There were a few tables outside as well. I got the fried clam plate, fried calamari plate, and a Greek salad. The fried clam plate is market priced. There was a generous portion of fried clam bellies and they were pretty sizable too. The calamari was really tender and also served in a generous portion. The fries that came with the fried seafood were really good, they had an extra crispy coating. These two orders also came with some tartar sauce and cole slaw. Overall, food was great and the portions were generous. Would return for more take out but probably not for dining in.

Closest place to get lunch near our hotel. Friendly owner, freshly cooked food, good prices. I had the fish sandwich and it was great! My husband had a slice of pepperoni and a wrap sandwich.

First time there today. Very friendly staff. I had a Greek Salad with steak tips and it was very tasty. The prices are really fair. Also they have a little bar. Beer, wine, cocktails. I don't think I have ever seen that in a sub/pizza shop. Wish I wasn't working because I would have had a cocktail . I am curious why no afternoon deliveries?

Fries, crispy but inconsistent at times re: size and how they are cooked.

We put our names on the list and we were told that our wait would be 25-35 minutes. Our luck continued as we only waited 15 minutes before being escorted to a booth. As I said earlier, it was busy and you could tell the wait staff was working to keep everyone happy! We were given menus and quickly asked what we would like to drink. The drinks were on our table in no time! We ordered one appetizer (buffalo fried brussel sprouts) and it came pretty quickly! I am not a big fan but my son and wife loved it! They raved about the seasoning and taste of the sprouts! (see picture) We put our orders in for dinner after finishing the sprouts. I ordered steak tips with frieds and ceasar salad, we had pan roasted flattened half chicken and a shaved kale and brussels salad to top things off. The food was delivered to our table in managable time. I would say 15 minutes from the time we ordered. The food was delicious and serving size was perfect. All three of were happy with our choices. The steak tips were perfect for me.....cooked medium well and juicy! We finished our dinner off with a dessert that my wife had heard of and wanted to order. I did not have any, but they raved about it! The Banana Break pudding was out of this world! I wish I saved some room as the smell was delicious and the size was perfect! WOW! Price- average Parking- seems to be enough spots on Highland Ave Vibe- a local bar with great food...lots of families Would I come back? For sure...I am looking forward to a visit before the Holiday season! I really like the way the entire place is set up....inviting and welcoming! 5 stars from me!

Vibe: relatively casual with bar, dining, and outdoor seating options. promptly greeted, seated, and served. Food 4.5/5: - I applaud them for their ingenuity integrating Thai flavors into American fare! Everything was very accessible. - I had the crispy basil burger ($20): minimally spicy, perfectly juicy, nice runny egg, not overpowering in flavor but just what I was hoping for, would get again - my friend had the massaman curry burger ($20) which had more cinnamon than I was expecting; solid burger but not genuinely massaman flavored - we shared the larb parmesan fries ($12): great potato fries with spicy larb sauce, but not anything to dream about - real star of the night was the mango sticky rice sundae ($13): I've had my fair share of these; and this was among the most satisfying ones I've had We didn't get drinks, but they looked incredible. In short, if you're looking for a good, $20 burger with a Thai twist or a delicious mango sticky rice in a casual atmosphere, Black Ruby has got you!

Visually reminds me of the design of Krasi. The servers really are on your butt when it comes to ordering and everything to the point where I was like can yall chill please lol. In the first 10 minutes we were there, I swear they came to the table like 3-5 times. They are really trying to get people in and out which I get but maybe be a little less obvious about it. Otherwise, service was respectful and nice. The presentation of the drinks was also really nice. I got a pink float and that was like strawberry milk with a nice scoop of ice cream. It was so fun and childish I made sure to have every single sip. The person next to me even asked what I got. My friend got the thai martini and she said it was delicious and couldn't taste the alcohol which for her is dangerous lol. The burgers, which are what they are known for, were a site to see indeed. For the curry burger it essentially is a pool of curry with a split in half burgers sitting in it. I was afraid that the buns would be soggy and to my surprise it wasn't and was delicious with this nice mini crunch from the topping. I actually preferred my burger which was a Big Crunch and juicy with pickled mustard greens. I also realized my burger had curry sauce in it too. Special mention to the scallion fries, what came out was not what I expected but it was one of my favorites. We got two things listed as spicy on the menu but did not taste spicy above a level 1 or 2. In addition, the menu online does not list their drinks lol so make sure to look at the last page for dessert and the milk floats. The restaurant is right in Porter Square where there are also SO MANY other great options but would go again for food and fun drinks. It's only open for brunch on Sundays, which combined with always being seated immediately makes it feel like a hidden gem. The back patio is quiet, shaded, and sheltered from wind. The food shines. Of course the egg scramble and the Benedict's were fantastic, but every piece of every plate feels deliberate and done with intention--nothing is an afterthought. - Their home fries are my all-time favorite--thick, well-seasoned, soft on the inside with some crisp on the outside. - - The English muffin toast has a crunchy golden surface and soft inside. - The whipped cream on the French toast feels luxurious. - Oyster shooters are a fun treat, as a lover of both fried clams and bloody Mary's. - They were kind enough to accommodate us with a half order of their (outstanding) French toast for dessert I'd note there's no espresso drinks on the menu, although I did enjoy the black coffee. When we came in we were greeted and our coats were taken and put away. They have rotating specials that our server walked us through. We ordered all three of the mock tails on the menu -- Odin's Oracle was a sparkling elderflower and passion fruit drink, the Northern Rose was fruity with a slight thick cream of coconut base (and the tables favorite!) and the last drink was a warm ginger drink. They all came out looking beautiful. For food, we started with the Halloumi Cheese which was delicious and perfect for sharing (comes with four pieces), then tried the Blueberry Ricotta Cornbread (really well made and yummy but needed a little more butter spread) and the fried burrata (huge serving of burrata with balsamic, fig jam, warm bread, just as good as it sounds). We tried the Braised Short Rib Croquettes which were stuffed with short rib and topped with sooo much yummy cheese. We also had the Pappardelle braised shore rib Ragu which was truly delicious-- would highly recommend. For dessert we tried a special menu bread pudding which was a perfect end to the night. Our leftovers came perfectly packaged in little baggies with dish names and dates written on them which is so cute and thoughtful! Overall I would order everything we got again and was so pleasantly surprised by the caliber of food at Oak Bistro-- get in and try it before it gets too popular!

We walked into a room where the walls are covered in memorabilia and every table is labeled with the name of a famous person who has sat there, giving the space a personality that no amount of designed ambiance can replicate. It feels like a place with genuine history rather than a place performing one. The burgers are the reason to come and they hold up after more than six decades without apology. The patties are thick and cooked to order, with medium being the right call for maximum juiciness. The creative topping combinations across the named burgers give you a range of directions to go depending on your mood. The Masshole is a natural starting point for a first visit, and the build your own option is worth knowing about if you want to go a more specific route. The portions are large enough that leaving satisfied is essentially guaranteed. The onion rings are a great choice of side for good reason, crispy and well seasoned in a way that holds up alongside the burger rather than competing with it, and the sweet potato fries are a strong alternative if you want something slightly less heavy. The frappes and shakes are worth ordering if you want something to wash it all down, and the raspberry lime Rickey is a summer ready drink with a refreshing taste.
