My daughter and I have been looking for a new home for our hair for a while now . I called the salon and was offered a same day appointment! When I couldn't make that appointment, the person who answered my call took the initiative to ask me if we were trying to get my daughter a cut before school started in 2 days. I lost the card/name of the lady who cut my hair. You wouldn't blame me. When I made my appointment I didn't ask for a specific person since I didn't know any of the ladies there and I figured my chances of getting someone good were a toss up. Hence I got a random lady who was very friendly and talkative as I suppose all hairstylers are. I have long down-to-my-butt, brown-from-swimming-and-or-tanning, permed-into-wavy hair that was just way too hippy-esqe to look professional. I told her I wanted shoulder length, layers, and suited to my face. That's it! Go wild! Make me beautiful! After the cut of which I'm not too sure she did anything other than make the length shorter, she styled my hair (which didn't even suit my face) so I couldn't really tell if I liked the cut. I went home, washed, didn't like how boxy it all looked so I called her to cut it to shoulder length like I asked. Take two: she did some more snipping to my hair, styled it; I went home and washed and I still looked the same. You for cereal? I finally just cut and layered my own hair. I'm thinking if you want a hairstylist who has an idea what hairstyle would suit your face rather than just mimicking a photo, $40 dollars is too cheap. After a long week of backbreaking work, I was ready for my hair cut. It has been almost a year. I am always nervous when I enter a new salon in a different city, in search of a new stylist who can tame my unruly hair. I was greeted promptly by Andrea, and eventually referred to Ellen. After perusing some magazines for the style I want (a bob cut, no bangs, not A-line), Tiffany washed my hair and reassured me that I am in good hands. I was admiring her bob cut and she said that it was Ellen who did it. After Ellen finished with her other client, she talked to me about what I had in mind. I showed her the magazine pictures and I just let her do her magic. She was very meticulous in cutting my hair, periodically checks if both sides are even. She had to straighten it and then texturized it since I had oodles and oodles of hair. I must confess that I was still nervous when it was 95% finished. When she was done, I asked if I can see that back. My head feels so much lighter. I loved my haircut I had to give her a hug! The price is very reasonable. I'm definitely coming back! =8) read more

It's been a long while since the last time I walked into a salon/barber shop for a haircut. As a kid, I was always pretty chubby, and so I used to hate it when my mom would force me to get a haircut and they'd cut it way too short, making me look even fatter. After years of being fat, I decided I'd finally start slimming down, and so far I've lost 30lbs and counting. I decided it was time to get some new hair! I was really nervous, I had found The Avenue Salon on yelp, I didn't know anyone who had gone here before but this place is the best rated Salon in Stockton on Yelp, so I decided to give it a shot. The place itself was right across from the theater on the miracle mile, with ample parking on the side of the salon. I went without an appointment, and I only waited a minute or so before I was in the "chair." The place was really clean and I got this "warm" vibe coming from it. Everyone inside looked happy getting their hair cut there, so that made me less nervous, haha. I wasn't exactly sure what I wanted, as I had just hidden my face under my long hair for so many years, so I kinda talked it out with Roni until I had sort of an idea of what I wanted done. I appreciated that Roni made made sure to ask me exactly what I wanted instead of just going nuts on my hair. She made me feel very comfortable and it wasn't awkwardly quiet while she was cutting my hair. She was pleasantly talkative and a very laid back chick. I also appreciated that she wasn't weirded out by me! LOL. I'm a quiet and quirky kinda dude. When Roni was done, I was pretty happy with the results. Now I just gotta shed 10-20 more pounds and I'll be a hottie, haha. Just kidding. But seriously, I was really happy with what she did with my round face. I went home and styled it a bit more and it was exactly what I wanted. I walked in with drab, poofy hair and ended up with a cleaner, edgier look! Thanks Roni! I would definitely recommend this salon to my friends! The stylists are friendly, the location is full of other things to do while you're there, and they make sure you get your hair perfect before you leave. I got my hair cut from Reah. I wanted straight across bangs, and right when I sat down she knew I needed better layers. I have a round face so straight across bangs are not recommended to some stylists at all, but she assured me that she would make it look nice, and she did. I think Reah is very knowledgeable about hair and she cares a lot about it how it looks. She used all these techniques to my hair that no other stylist uses, which is very interesting. She is good at texturing hair and cutting bangs. I like the layout of this place. I think reah's rate is 35$ for a haircut, short or longish, because she did both my sister and I's hair. I like the way my hair is right now and I'm happy with my results. I think I would come again. This is my salon! haha..I've been coming to this place for a couple of years now..Andrea is the person who typically cuts my hair..very carefully being that I have pretty precious long hair..I can't afford to lose any of it. Van is also another person who does my hair, I've had a couple of cuts with her and she's great! She did a trial run for me for my wedding this coming October and she did an incredible job. Sammie has been cutting my hair for over a year now. I used to get it cut at a chain but it's hard for me to go back after the salon experience. I moved out of Stockton but still drive 30 min to get my haircut from her. Here's why. 1. Super easy to schedule an appointment through text. Although she takes walk-ins, I'm a busy guy and prefer not to wait. Really appreciate the appointment option. 2. Attention to detail. I get a comb over haircut. She uses scissors on top and clippers for sides to taper. Sides always look clean and even. Never have to touch up at home. 3. Shampoo and scalp massage included and not extra. Never had this done before at a barbershop or at a chain and I was missing out! 4. Tidy and clean finish. She is careful about the hair clippings leftover around the neck. I use to go straight home after a haircut to shower and change shirt because the hair clippings would get into my shirt collar and poke me. I don't do that anymore. I get my haircut and then go about my day. 5. She styles your hair at the end after shampooing it. Definitely not the cheapest haircut in town but the experience, conversation, and included services make it worth the price. read more
