A truly disappointing experience for my son and our family. They promised It was easy to extract 4 wisdom teeth with no anesthesia and no pain killers. Well they could not get the first tooth out completely ( even with x-rays) and my son was in so much pain they had to stop and refer him to an Oral Surgeon. so he missed a weeks work for nothing then after healing up we had to start over with a proper oral surgeon. What a pain in the aine After another week of missed income they charged him full price on the one attempt and botched up wisdom tooth removal. The billing department was rude mean and learned their trade in the used car world. What's next is that I have a family full of insurance adjusters and medical doctors to guide me. I wish I could comment on the type of care received here. I can't because both me and my wife were never given a chance to get a cleaning or anything else done. This place constantly kept canceling our appointments and over booking clients leaving us to change our appointments not once but twice. They have no care for what you would like. Get this....if you don't answer the phone in time and they have to leave a voicemail on the day before your appointment, they will cancel you and make you reschedule for a different day. They say there should be reminder text messages that go out but we never received one. Just a complete disappointment in this place. read more

I hate to leave a negative review but i've given this place multiple chances. I have a 3 strike policy for businesses and they just struck out. The quality of the dental work here is great. Dr. Kimura has always been a pleasure to see and most dental hygienists have done a great job. There was only 1 time where the dental hygienist did a horrible job and I was in so much pain afterwards. I never saw her again after that. I assume they had to let her go. Now - my major complaint as others have mentioned is the front office. For 1 year, everything was great. In my 2nd and 3rd year with Avia, the front office has made my regular dental cleanings and check ups very painful. 1st strike - Not 100% their fault. When they moved my appointment up by 1-2 weeks, caused my insurance to reject the coverage because I was a few days too early for my cleaning based on a 183 day period from previous cleaning. However, every other dental office i have ever been a patient of, would look up their patients insurance coverage and benefit limitations. They would make sure you would not get denied coverage by scheduling appropriately. To me, I really hate paying for something that I could have been covered for, especially if I hadn't agreed to the request of moving up my appointment date. I spoke to them and politely asked why this happened and they assured me it would not happen again and it's been really crazy with scheduling. They advised that I call my insurance and see if they would be willing to grant an appeal. I did that and was not able to get an appeal. I bit the bullet and paid Avia for the remaining balance and just asked that they make sure I am scheduled correctly next time. They happily took my money and agreed. 2nd strike - I had an upcoming appointment. I called in advance to ask them if I'm eligible for my benefits. They say yes. The day of my appointment, i get in, and i once again check with the front office and dental hygienist. They say yes, xray and cleanings are covered. We proceed and i have a good cleaning experience. 1 month later I get a bill for my x-rays. At this point, i'm really frustrated. I reached out via email to see if they can cover the fees this time because I had already double checked with them. They refuse and gave me a typical cookie cutter response with how they are not responsible for what my insurance covers. They did x-rays because see cookie cutter response "Here at our office we do not let insurance dictate treatment, we take appropriate x-rays to ensure our patients care and preventive measures for any caries that may arise." That's great! But if you can help a patient save money by waiting 1-2 weeks for a routine cleaning or x-ray check up.. would you not do that? Would you not HELP your patients financially at a cost of maybe 5 minutes of the front office's time to check benefit schedules? Would you not prefer the patient to be happy with all experiences from going to your dental office? Including dealing with insurance? I think the answer is clear here guys. They schedule according to what's beneficial to their office - and that is scheduling as many people as they can and if they need to move your appointment to get more people in, that's what they'll do.. even if you end up having to unnecessarily pay for it. I voiced my complaint to them, and they took that item off the bill. Which i am grateful for. I scheduled my next appointment with them because they do good work. I made sure to schedule it exactly 6 months after to so I won't run into the same issue. 3rd strike - 1 month before my appointment, they call me and ask if i can come in 2 weeks earlier. Can I? Can i come in 2 weeks earlier and not have coverage be denied??? Cancelled my appointment, now looking for a new dentist. I don't love writing poor reviews but it felt necessary to write to hopefully help someone else from this situation. I tried to switch dental offices to Avia Healthcare since I moved to the area and my old dentist was in Poway. I went in for a consultation because it was required before scheduling a cleaning, nobody really told me that when I showed up I'd be getting x-rays, but once I was there I just went with it. The dentist viewed the photos/x-rays and immediately decide that I needed a special cleaning that my insurance didn't cover and that I needed 5 fillings, and re-fillings on my old ones. I was shocked because I have good dental hygiene and have never had any issues. When I asked if I could just have a regular cleaning covered by my insurance they said I need to do the $90 cleaning and then the dentist can decide if i can have the regular one moving forward..... I cancelled my scheduled cleaning and rescheduled with my old dentist. Unfortunately the x-ray files they provided me my old dentist couldn't even use because they were such poor quality. It was worth the drive over to my old dentist, because even though I had to pay for some (better x-rays) out of pocket, I was promptly validated by the dentist there that Avia was trying to get me to fill stains on my teeth as cavities, and a special cleaning just for a little bit of build up on my front teeth, my gums don't even really bleed! The gum probe counting they did at Avia was also inaccurate, they gave me a bunch of 3s but at my new dentist it was ONLY 1s and 2s. I am SO GLAD that I listened to my instincts and didn't get scammed into $1800 of unnecessary dental care. My new dentist also said based on the "care plan" from Avia that I showed them that this dentist likely takes commissions - shocker! Tldr; Listen to your instincts. If you get regular cleanings and are not prone to issues and are suddenly being told that you need to fill a bunch of cavities, think twice and get a second opinion. read more

I sent this message to Dr. Kimura weeks ago and have not heard a response... "After being a loyal patient and coming to Avia Dental Care every six months for more than 10 years, I am very displeased with my experience this week. During my cleaning with the new hygentist, she informed me that I should be coming more frequently than twice per year due to the condition of my teeth/gums, and recommended a deep cleaning. I don't fault her for giving me her honest, professional opinion. She was simply doing her job. The issue I have is that for the last 5 years or so, I've walked out of Avia Dental Care being complimented by the job I do to maintain my oral health. It's unfathomable to me that over the last six months, with no change in my regimen, that my oral health has degraded the amount it has, unless the previous hygienist failed to inform me along the way. And I do not hold that hygienist accountable, but rather her supervising practitioner and owner, Dr. Kimura. Upon leaving the clinic on Wednesday, I made it abundantly clear to Dr. Kimura, the hygienist, and the front desk that I would like a call with Dr. Kimura to discuss my concerns, giving him the opportunity to talk privately. Today is Friday and I have yet to receive a call. This makes me feel like Dr. Kimura does not take my health seriously and does not value me as a long-time patient. It's a shame, because a simple call to express concern and accountability, or some sort of explanation would have resulted in my scheduling an appointment to have a deep cleaning and resume our relationship. Avia dental is one of the finist dental businesses in Southern Ca. Without question amongst one of the finist dental offices in Carlsbad , CA. Dr Jeff Kimora was working in Bakersfield California in about 2008 specializing in implants, and he has been my dentist every since. I don't know anybody who can compete with his dental skills. Lucy and her staff are just incredibly professional also, any problem that seems to come up, they know how to resolve. I Would rate Avia dental with 10 stars. I used this dental office before COVID to fix a crown. Dental work was pretty good. They kept trying to sell me on full mouth X-rays and I kept refusing. Then based on my insurance plan, they took full mouth X-rays anyways, when I went back in to check my crown fitting and charged Delta Dental... Kind of fishy?? My wife went to this dental office for a crown in 2021 when I had Delta Dental insurance through my previous employer. Delta Dental approved her crown and she had the dental work done. 2 years later, in February 2023, Avia Dental billing office starts to harass my wife with constant emails and phone calls. This very rude, aggressive, almost robot like woman calls me and says we need to pay $550 for my wife's crown from 2021. The angry billing lady said Delta Dental is not paying claim from 2 years ago since they never approved it. When I asked her why would Delta Dental refuse to pay a claim that they pre-authorized? She just repeated the same information over and over again. In every dental procedure I've had done over the past 20 years, they always get pre-approval or authorization from insurance company. Then they show you how much the insurance company is paying and how much you have to pay for the procedure. Then you either do or don't have the procedure done. Avia Dental either did the procedure on my wife in 2021 without prior authorization from Delta Dental, or they already billed Delta Dental in 2021 and now they are trying to double bill them in 2023. Today we received noticed that Avia Dental sent my wife's bogus crown bill to a collection agency. Now she has to answer dozens of calls from some collection agency and Avia Dental damaged our credit rating. Dr. Kimura has been my Dentist for over 19 years. When needed, he's very sensitive to my pain and always uses a 2-step process to inject numbing medication starting with an extremely small needle that is much easier for me to endure. In addition to routine dental services, i.e. crowns, cavity repair, cleaning, x-rays, etc., I've had (2) implants done by him. Although one of the implants didn't take at first, both are firmly implanted now and working great. I've had nothing but excellent service from him and highly recommend him. It would be nice if Avia Dental procured a 3-D crown printer so he could make the crowns on site while I wait, which would save me a separate visit due to having a 3rd party make them. SCAMMERS !!! Check up and X-rays a few months back for a bill of $250.00. My visit: I arrived to my appointment and as I was filling out the forms another patient was having an issue with the front desk lady. I didn't pay too close of attention to the matter because it didn't concern me. When the front desk lady asked me for my insurance card I handed it to her but informed her I had also emailed it two weeks ahead of my appointment so they could figure out the fees prior to being seen. The lady told me she would look into it while I was being seen for X-rays/check up. The assistant took a FULL MOUTH of X-rays to the root of the teeth and the Dentist did his check up (no cleaning) and told me to schedule another appointment for a regular cleaning. When I went back to the front desk the lady said she couldn't figure it out and the lady who normally does billing wasn't there that day, so she would call me back another day once it was figured out. I thought the situation was odd but I didn't want to give the office a hard time like the person before me so I said that was fine. Two weeks later: I got a call from the dental office saying I owed them $250.00 for the visit I had two weeks ago. I was a little shocked because I expected the bill maybe around $100 at most. I asked if I could talk to the floor supervisor to see if it was a mistake. SHE WAS MEAN!!! I told her I didn't understand why the visit was $250 and if it really was this high why was I not informed before recieving the service they had my insurance information two weeks prior to my visit. She went off on telling me how she has been working in billing for years and this is the price and so on. I then explained to her that I didn't think that it was fair to have a suprise bill and that I think people should know what they are going to pay. I told her I was willing to pay my bill for a more reasonable price since they didn't warn me in the beginning. If they would have told me my visit would be $250 I wouldn't have gone to the back room. In the end she told to pay my bill and hung up on me. Back story: I actually worked as a dental assistant for 5 years. Front desk does get insurance information prior to visits so there isn't any confusion on billing. Upon any appointment patients are informed of any fees ( co-pay, deductible, etc.) and given consent forms again so there isn't any confusion and the patient can decide if they want to be seen or not. Also a FULL MOUTH of xrays usually costs more and is ONLY done to go see an orthodontist or something is wrong with your teeth. I have no tooth pain, sensitivity NOTHING. If the dentist saw something wrong with a tooth then he would request for additional X-rays for further evaluation. The standard amount of X-rays are a total of 6. Writing this has showed how some office's do not care about us and are not apologetic on something that could have been prevented instead BLAME us and tell us to pay a suprise bill. read more

I have been going to Avia for over 4 years and I love it!! Dr Kimura and staff are very knowledgeable when it comes to all your options for treatment!! The other thing I loved about this place was that is has TV on the ceiling to keep you entertained during treatment. Dr. K is very passionate about holistic approaches to Dentistry and, well, everything else in his life! He has more knowledge on Vegetarian and Vegan eating that I've heard from someone in a long time. With that, he is also very cautious and conservative when it comes to treatment planning! It is a small office so it's not always available at the drop of a dime like a corporate dental office! After being pinged by another former patient of the dentist, to read his response on another review which called me a con artist, here I am responding to the Dr's response to me and another reviewer where he attempts to falsely defame my character years later. Wow, where do I start. First, if you read my review carefully, I was very complimentary of the dentist and just not his office manager, who has complaints PRIOR to my review (I did not see those until after my visit otherwise I would not have gone in). Second, not once did I ask for a free cleaning from him nor have I ever from any dentist. I assure all they did not receive a call from a dentist saying I tried to get a free cleaning from them because I have never, ever done that. I am insured since my visit here anyway and decided to actually remove myself from western medicine dental work and take care of my teeth on my own and with my holistic health practitioners (who are not dentist). I have not stepped foot in another dental office since my visit with this office. Prior to that I had only seen a couple other dentist, none who contacted this office (confirmed) and all were paid via insurance, promotional offers or cash in hand. In fact, I use a nickname on Yelp that practitioners are unaware of so they would not even know who I am to contact this dentist and complain about me! There is no way to opt out of an x-ray to get a free dental cleaning. You still pay for the services rendered as you should and I'm always happy to do. I came here on a Living Social deal years back meaning I had PRE-PAID for a package they offered. No service was completed as I noted in my initial review because they wouldn't do anything without x-rays. Wow, to call a reviewer a con artist and lie about them going dentist to dentist to try to decline x-rays and get a free cleaning is one of the most ridiculous things I have ever heard. However it backs up my first review of the facility and I'm just sorry I ever saw that Living Social coupon and tried this place out. His response to me made little sense as it was because it did not truly respond to my main complaints in my review which were a) an aggressively rude office manager that almost violated HIPPA by having a discussion with me in the lobby that should have been behind closed doors - my own re-steering of the conversation because I didn't want to be a black woman in an office talking about endometriosis, adenomyosis, and motor function issues stopped any reveal of my medical issues (the reason I have stopped getting dental x-rays) b) me stating from entering the patient room that I did not want x-rays yet they still looked at my mouth for 5 mins then decided to not proceed with service. They should have told me that before the dentist even entered the room as I made it clear before then. c) the manager lying to me about Living Social essentially determining the prices Avia's customer's pay (not the Living Social deal price but the actual in office price people pay without a coupon from living social). I chose not to respond initially because it made not enough sense for me to be bothered with. My Yelp account consist of accurate reviews of my experiences with businesses. I hope to always be able to leave 4-5 stars (as I often do). In some cases when I have gotten poor service or been mistreated, the business reaches out and offers an apology and/or makes changes to provide better service. In which case I'd promptly change my review. It's always sad though when the experience is a one star and instead of the business taking the feedback into consideration to make their business better, they lash out and attack. This place has a Malpractice judgement on record (picture of ca dental board included). RUN! If you are considering this place, do yourself a favor and go elsewhere. If you are a current patient and are able to get x-rays at a different dental office (not one they recommend) to double check their work, I highly recommend it. Ask for different angles as the issues are not always easily noticed. My review is also long overdue. I was hoping that they would honor their responsibilities but this place is just bad news. After several procedures that were not performed correctly (visible to the naked eye), I finally decided to go to a different dentist. No matter how many tries this place got, they just couldn't get it right. I recently found out that yet another procedure was an issue. Tricky thing with this one is that it is a crown which my insurance only covers once every 10 years for the same tooth. I went to Avia looking for reimbursement so that I can get it fixed elsewhere and was told that they would stand behind their work if I had not switched dental offices. Well, if I had stayed, I would've never found out the extent of how dishonest and incompetent this place is. On top of it, they claimed that the root canal is bad on that same tooth so since I will need a new root canal, the insurance may consider covering the new crown. Since then I have tried to reach Avia (picture of emails attached) multiple times to obtain my records, without success. I ended up calling and spoke with Lucy (I believe that's the office managers name) who basically said they don't plan on releasing MY x-rays to me. She insinuated maybe down the road when they have time, but just not now. Flat out rude. If I could give negative stars, I would. I have filed a complaint with the dental board. I've been going to Dr. Kimura for a couple years now. Seems like as I get younger...(older) my fears of going to the dentist have intensified BUT since going to Dr. Kimura those fears have gone away. I have a lot of intense problems with my teeth and Dr. Kimura to me is an excellent dentist, surgeon AND artist! He's an artist...so careful and exact. My financial situation has not been the best for being able to pay a dentist for the work needed so I have such a tendency to be too laid back about getting work done. But I thank God for Lucy who kind of took charge and worked out a plan for me to make a substantial down payment then substantial monthly payments and I am SO THANKFUL. I was very desperate in my last situation and she helped...made it happen for me! I love Lucy! :) Sincerely I would be afraid to trust my dental needs/work to anyone else at this point! Dr. Kimura is an artist and so careful and professional. Other staff as well as Lucy are wonderful also...very kind and caring! ....and I am not just saying all of this! This is from my heart! This office has such a great vibe. Dr Kimura has helped me overcome my dental fears. The assistants are wonderful. The front office does their best to help me understand my insurance. I have been a patient of Dr. Kimura for quite some time, no problem with the Dr. He is a good dentist. The staff on the other hand has been a nightmare, specially ( I think the office manager ) , quite incompetent and and poorly mannered. In the past, I had to involve the insurance agent to help to correct the billing mistake. I don't know if it was intentional, or just simply incompetence. In 12/2020 I broke my tooth and made an app with Dr. Kimura. He examined the broken tooth took an X-ray and suggested an implant. Since the office was closing for a couple of weeks, the procedure was scheduled for the beginning of January/2021. On the way out I was charged over $800,00. I thought it was out of proportion for the service I had done. The office manager had paper with the numbers on it, and I grabbed the paper, but she pulled of my hand and told me that she would email me on the following day, though she never did. I checked with my dental plan, and I was Informed that the dentist office needed to prior authorize the procedure before proceeding with the implant. I took over 3 months and the office was not able to provide the proper documentation to my insurance. I was told by the insurance agent that the code that was submitted does not exist, and apparently the person who presented herself as Lucy was quite rude through all conversations with the Insurance company. In the interim, I've send several emails and text messages. Eventually, she sent me an email, and later on a phone call, she fully blamed the insurance company for everything. While talking to her, she was very impolite, whenever I try to talk she would talk over me, never taking the time to listen. I talk to the insurance agents, including a supervisor, and it was explained to me that the dentist office was applying a wrong code for my procedure. I could not explain that to Lucy because she wouldn't listen. During our phone call, she said what she wanted and she hang up. A few days later, tired of waiting , I went to the office to find out what was going on. I informed her what I was told by the insurance agents, and she started to attack me, and again, wouldn't let me talk. She kept talking over me, and I have a way to prove it. I got quite upset and walked out of the office very humiliated. I immediately set out to see another dentist, and in 2 days they got it approved by the insurance and placed the implant. Dr. Kimura, in my opinion, is a good dentist and always respectful to me, but ultimately, he is responsible for his staff's behavior and professionalism, or lack of it, which in this case is below any standards. read more

Dr. Kimura is very nice the hygienist Jennifer is also very good. The major issue I have is with the front office staff not doing their jobs. They are incredibly lazy. They are always out of the office and fail to follow up on billing when they are supposed to. I've been over billed for each visit and had insurance denied because of their errors. Lucy is horrible. I don't know how she can keep her job, the doctors must not beware of the terrible things she does. Hopefully the dentists read these so they are aware of how their practice is being run into the ground. I do not recommend going here unless they clean house and get rid of Lucy! read more

Dr. Jeffery Kimura is a very good dentist. I'm 68 years old and have met many good and bad dentists. He pulled a tooth that was expected to break apart upon extraction and be a real complication. He got the entire tooth out in one piece. He now is doing a great job with a tooth implant. I referred my friend Lilia who had a crown done, and she thought the doctor did a great job. read more

The office manager, in my opinion, is distrusting. If she wasn't there, the place would be perfect, no complaints. Either a game is going on, or she is incompetent. Her previous employee gave me a brochure (with her right there) for insurance that covered my procedure. I bought the insurance; 6 months later she tries to tell me my procedure isn't covered because part of the procedure wasn't done while insured. She then tries to tell me it will cost me so much out of my pocket because of that. I had words with her and told that that was incompetence. Then she tries to tell me that procedure wasn't added to that insurance until recently. Which is a lie. Again, the procedure is listed in my brochure for the ins. that I purchased months ago. What is going on here? In the months prior, I had felt something wasn't right with this woman and I questioned whether I was being overcharged. I got a printout and I'm going to check. I have my opinions of what's going on, maybe trying to line some pockets. But that's my feeling. Also, she canceled my appts twice in the last two weeks for no reason and when I appeared, she acted like I didn't have an appt and I said, yes I made it last week. So in her arrogant manner, she "allowed" me to be seen. And she had a whiskey bottle under her desk because she accidentally kicked it and it rolled out. She doesn't act like someone who wants to help patients. She just wants to mess with them and see what she can get out of them. It's really sad because I think Dr. Kimura is one of the most gifted dentists I have ever had. read more

I was happy with the actual dental services provided by the dentist and dental hygienist. I was going there for about a year and even had my son start coming to this practice. However, that all changed and the reason for the one star is the billing and management issues. I had a crown replaced in July 2015 and they gave me an estimate based on my insurance which was $1100 and I paid my portion that they said was due. On March 31 2016, the office manager, Lucy, called me and told me the insurance claim was denied and that I owed them $314 and I was responsible for this amount. She emailed me a statement with no detail except that the insurance paid $0 and a credit adjustment to contract fees credit of $346. However, I receive an insurance benefit summary a couple of weeks later that my insurance paid Avia Dental $429. They tried to get me to pay my insurance portion by telling me that my claim was denied when they actually paid. Also, they charged me more than what was allowed and they actually owe me $123. Be aware of their billing practices!! I tried to get my overpayment back, but the office has not responded or ignoring my communications. Beware of overcharging and possible billing fraud. I am going to file a complaints with my insurance and CA Dept of insurance. read more

My friend referred me here because he's had some great experiences. They never overcharge and they don't make you pay for something you don't need. The hygienist and staff are extremely patient, nice, and friendly. The office is very clean and isn't very old. I have been to 4 other dentists, and this one was my favorite because I was never pressured into a "laser cleaning" or something silly like that. I'm going back here in 2 days. read more

I have been a patient here for the last five years and I have had a pleasant experience here whenever I came by. Dr. Kimura is great and comforting during each visit. Matter of fact, all the dental assistants and front desk receptions are nice. Keep in mind, I am not afraid of going to the dentist and that will be a key component to what I am about to say next. This review has been long overdue. I came in to get my lower wisdom teeth extracted approximately a year ago. Kimura struggled taking them off and seemed to not care about his patient's wellbeing. I still vividly remember him pulling with all his might and grunting to try taking out one of my third molars. With that, the vein on my temple and part of my forehead suddenly popped with pain. To this day, it is still visible on my head and discomforting at times whenever I eat or go about daily activities. The healing process did not help either and it was a traumatizing experience, and always will be whenever I think about it. Another thing to note was one of my sutures was not removed (after I came in to remove the sutures the first time around) and only discovered after an additional visit I made to check up on the healing process. Overall, I have lost trust in him and their practice. As a result, I will not be coming back here anymore. read more

As with any dental office - make sure to ask the right questions to ensure you know what you are in for. At this office, make sure to verify that the dentist you set up the appointment with is who will be working on your teeth. Make sure to analyze the cost breakdown. In my instance, I got the cost breakdown and thought that is all I would be paying. In fact, I was charged additional fees by the insurance company for the difference in cost for the fillings. This is a fairly expensive dental office (my insurance pays 80%, I pay 20%) so do the research prior to getting any work done. They have really advanced equipment, nice dental hygenists and televisions on the ceiling so you have something to stare at besides the dentist. I had a problem with some of the charges and they did work with me as I was moving far far away and could not have some of the work re-done. read more

After having multiple fillings and extractions as a kid with Novacaine that wasn't injected into my nerve, I FINALLY found a dentist that knows how to get me numb. I have been going to Dr. Kimura for 5 years now and have been comfortable and relaxed every time. The office is really nice and the staff is great. I actually look forward to teeth cleanings now!!!! And the rare filling is 30 minutes of watching House Hunters (instead of gripping the chair and counting the seconds until it's over.) read more

Avoid this dentist. First off, I thought I had an appointment with Dr. Jeff Kimura. It turns out, I wasn't seen by him at all (instead I was seen by a Dr. H) and nobody asked if I was ok with it. The dental assistant taking pictures of my mouth did not know how to use a camera (the flash kept on going off randomly). He also had to take a billion x-rays (hope the extra radiation doesn't give me cancer) as he could not figure out proper positioning for the x-ray machine pads. The dentist was an absolute crock. He recommended 2 veneers (at $1500/each and not covered by insurance) for tiny chips in my 2 teeth. He didn't even ask how long I've had the chips (7 years) or if it caused sensitivity (it doesn't). When I told him no dentist had ever recommended veneers, he suggested I buy a mouthguard for night (for $200) without even asking if the tooth chips were caused by me grinding my teeth (they are not). The dentist then proceeded to tell me he could see cavities from the photos that were taken. Then, he said they would need to take more photos because the photos that were taken were bad. Interesting. (Side Note: I have never had so much as a single cavity so to all of a sudden need $3500 worth of veneers and cavities filled must tell you that something is wrong with this business.) The cleaning was next. The hygienist started doing the gum receding measurements and was reading off the millimeter measurements quickly to the girl who was recording. She got to the end of saying 4, 4, 4, 3, 4, 4, 4, etc. and the girl taking notes goes "Oh, I was on a different tooth." So the hygienist looks at her notes and pretends she could assign all of the numbers correctly. I don't buy it. The best part of the appointment was when they gave me a proposal (totaling $3500) for the work they wanted to do. They misspelled my first name, last name, and street name. Why in the world would I trust a business like this with $3500? I told them I would seek a second opinion and left. Again, maybe Dr. Jeff Kimura is better than Dr. H but Dr. Kimura should know what is happening in his practice if his name is on the office. read more

I've been under the care of Dr. Kimura and the staff at Avia Dental for five years. I can say with authority that this practice offers the highest level of technical expertise possible and the standard of care for patients is extraordinary. From routine services to emergency procedures, the commitment to a best possible experience and perfect outcome is always the main priority. That level of consideration extends beyond provided services into every other potential area of concern. I've been afforded after-hours care, including weekends. Doctor Kimura even met me remotely for a check-up. The front office and back office likewise go above-and-beyond to help ensure any worry is prevented or handled, especially when it comes to taking care of insurance billing and working-out financial terms. They are relentless patient advocates with insurance providers and they are as honest as can be. The whole staff is the same way. I am presently in the final stages of reconstructing a bone defect, soft tissue damage and broken teeth suffered in bike accident some years ago. Dr. Kimura was the only dentist I felt qualified to handle my case from the beginning, and his office manager was uniquely able and willing to work with me to make sure I could receive the care I needed. At this near-end point of what turned out to be a challenging process for us all, I am happy to say I made the right decision with the right people for an incredible result. I've referred many people to Dr. Kimura and Avia Dental, and I've discovered that as many friends already go to him. Let's start with dental cleanings "ok". But recommended Caps needed then the issues begin. Was told needed 4 caps. I agreed to start with one. They got the bite, placed on temp cap, 30 min later falls off in mouth. They asked me if I wanted low priced cap or more expensive but stronger cap. They replace it. Have pain for up to 6 months with multiple bite adjustments. Eventually cap needs replaced because it was ground down to far and became dis functional. Finally fixed, try again with another cap. Seems ok for a while pain again continues, get bite fixed solves that. Then first cap falls out again after a year or so. Come to find out, the doctor didn't grind original tooth down enough so when he adjusts for bite, grinds away to much and causes thin surface area which causes cap to fail. Then wants me to pay for the replacement and new cap. I'm sorry, I'm not a dentist, But I'm smart enough to know if you have two teeth come together, and your putting material between the two teeth and you have to grind said material, it has to be thick enough to 1) grind bite to be comfortable, 2) leave enough new material to be a tooth. Dr Kimura pulled cap off and said, here's the problem right here, there's holes in the top of the cap and we need to replace it? I didn't grind holes in the cap, I don't grind holes in anything else in my mouth, and you are now sending me to collections for 450 dollars cause you came back and ground my tooth down a proper amount to accept the new cap and to be fit for a bite and leave enough material to be a tooth! I then google his practice and find a abnormal amount of people have had issues with billing and cap replacements and during my last cap replacement I mentioned, I overheard another patient needed to be rushed in for a cap issue. I will be taking this to court, I wouldn't expect a tire shop to put on new tires with 90% missing tread, and customer comes back in, prematurely cause tire failed and make them repay for another tire. Cleanings your fine, get second opinions on any other dental work there. Or research very well before doing any work there. To close. I hadn't received any bills warning me of going to collections, no final bill, no warning of this. Just the week before Christmas from a collection agency. This repair they did was, at this time now, almost a year old. I at least assumed this was covered by my insurance. I'm sure they'll say they have sent many requests, this amount of money for me is not the problem. If I felt this was handled correctly we would be in a different position. Funny thing was I continued to get auto reminders for cleaning for almost the entire year, but amazing how non of it said I owed them money nor a phone call to discuss. I would like to leave this review for the entire Avia Dental team. Dr. Kimura and his entire team are immensely professional and they are the most competent dental office I have attended. From the beginning when you walk in I was surrounded by welcoming and knowledgeable front office staff and then the assistant was remarkable in informing and guiding me through the treatment. He was also a great part of the comfortable and positive environment this office makes you feel. Dr. Kimura is very honest and trust worthy; hands down the best oral health service I've had so far.
