Jeannie walked me through the process, while I was panicking. It was not an easy transition, which is apparently quite common. The location is good, the apartments are two-room, so you feel as if you are living in a real apartment, not a dorm room. The location is excellent, with a lovely outdoor area for sun and fresh air, that overlooks a lake. Now, some months later, we are so glad she is at the Gables. Care givers are lovely and friendly, Mom has made friend with other residents. She's exercising and playing games. She's gone on some of the outings, as well. Dee and Michael are outstanding activities leaders. Lance, Kim, Lisa and the rest of the PT team is fantastic. No, it is not perfect. They have "adequate" staff, which means if your parent needs 2 person transfer, they wait longer. Adequate is not always enough. But, overall, Mom is happy, we're generally happy with her care, the food is not awful (as it was at rehab) and Sheila and the staff genuinely seem to care about residents.

This place also has a separate casual cafe and also a formal dining area for restaurant-quality food without taking your loved one out of the facility. The outdoor area is lovely, spacious, covered, & offers a view of a lake - how tranquil! The rooms were impressive as they had a separate living room from the bedroom - something that I had not seen at other AL facilities. Working on the paperwork was a breeze & Laurie made everything very easy.

It has a 4/5 rating on the CMS Quality Rating Scale (which Medicare gives a facility after their regular inspections) and the pictures on their website show beautiful floors and a nice PT facility; however, my experience was most unsatisfactory. I was admitted from the hospital (August 2025) to regain strength following surgery and before returning home. Upon my arrival, I was greeted by a concierge who rudely commented on my clothes, stating that if they didn't have my name on them, they would be donated. This left a negative first impression as all my belongings were taken away for tagging. In my opinion, the facility's living conditions were subpar, with cramped and uncomfortable rooms. There were two patients per room with little storage for personal items. The one chair per bed for visitors was filled with supplies. My visitors had to edge sideways past the end of my roommate's bed to reach mine only to then stand due to lack of seating. Walkers had to be maneuvered to open the door to the bathroom, enter, and close the door. Cleanliness was also a concern, particularly in the bathroom. I had specific requirements for toileting and an assisted clean-up rarely occurred afterward (for me or the bathroom floor.) I was a resident for 3 days and did not have a change of sheets or help with personal hygiene. My dietary needs were disregarded; I was supposed to be on a high-protein diet to aid my recovery but was given no choices. The meals provided were abysmal, and I'm attaching some pictures to illustrate the poor quality. Everyone received the same meals, and mine often went uneaten.. On the third day, I woke up in excruciating pain in my shoulders, rating it a 10/10. I was unable to push the call button due to pain; my roommate wheeled herself into the hall and yelled for help. She was told that many people were in pain. Several minutes later, a staff member came into the room asking about my last pain medication dose. Barely able to respond, I said, "I don't know," while she stood there. Frustrated, I told her to get help or I would call 911. She didn't respond, so I struggled to dial the 3 digits. EMTs arrived to remove me to a hospital. The whole experience was disappointing and detrimental to my recovery. I believe Westchester Gardens did not provide the quality of care or the supportive environment that someone in rehabilitation requires and deserves.

I was given a questionnaire to fill out, and then we exchanged the form with a tablet to answer more health questions. My blood pressure was taken, and my iron count was taken. We walked into the donation area, where I sat in a donation chair, and the donation routine began to take my blood. After about 8-10 minutes, I was finished and got up and left the facility. The technician was friendly and was very good at inserting the donation needle into my arm. There was some informal conversation, and it was a very nice experience. I have been here many times before, and I will return when I can donate again. I've been donating blood since 1969 and feel I am giving life to people who need this to survive. Feel Good about yourself and give blood. One Blood has great employees working there.

The duty of fulfilling their responsibilities for 24…read morehour supervised medical care, administering medications, wound care, managing chronic conditions and ensuring a safe, comfortable living environment...they failed! The duty to provide hygiene care, bathing, dressing, eating, toileting and laundry...they failed! My mother-in-law, Evelyn, passed away on 6/27/25 at Harbourwood Care Facility. She had balance issues which required assistance to stand. She constantly had UTI's from little to no hygiene assistance. She was often left unchanged from the night before till the afternoon. Doctor appointments were missed due to negligence arranging transportation. The food service department follows NO dietary protocols or considerations for medically necessary conditions. The doctor assigned was USELESS. When my wife called him for help, he was rude, uncaring, denied what we know to be facts, and refused to provide any additional orders or even suggestions to get Evelyn proper care. My wife and I reside in another state and flew down several times a year to visit and check on things. We flew down that week after receiving a call stating that Evelyn was not doing good and was nearing the end. Evelyn passed away without the assigned doctor ever seeing her, he signed the death certificate listing the cause as coronary. All without ever seeing her! We were there from morning til night so we know he didn't come in at all. My mother in law died from undiagnosed C-Dif. The week Evelyn died, she had diarrhea all week, with an odor so bad that the Nurse Practitioner diagnosed it immediately upon checking on her late Thursday afternoon on the 6/26/25. She ordered a sample be taken to the lab for verification immediately. She ordered antibiotics to be started immediately and ordered IV fluids to be started because she, without a doubt, knew it was C-Dif. She also told us that with proper treatment recovery was possible. Well the meds ordered were not started til much later, the IV fluids were never given and the sample ordered by the nurse Practitioner never made it to the lab. In fact, it was left on the night stand! Evelyn died the next morning. Now the second part of this story. My sister-in-law, Donna, was also a resident at Harbourwood. She was bedridden with Multiple Sclerosis, Kidney Failure, Diabetes and a previous Heart Attack. She passed away at Harbourwood on 8/9/25 six weeks after my mother in law. The doctor from Mease Countryside Hospital informed me that although he tried to bring her back, too much time elapsed. Harbourwood waited too long to call 911. The reason for this delay was the standing order; that NO ONE can authorize any patient to be sent to the emergency room without approval from the Director of Nursing! Well, it just so happens that she was off for the weekend and it would need to wait till Monday 8/11/25. The on duty Nurses wanted to send her to the hospital on Friday, 8/8/25 and when she was unresponsive on Saturday 8/9/25. She died before 911 being called. To add further frustration, her cardiologist appointment on the Tuesday 8/7/25 prior to her death was canceled by Harbourwood because Harbourwood never made her transportation arrangements. So an appointment that possibly could have detected a problem and saved her life never happened because of both negligence and incompetence! The same exact thing happened, to my MIL, her cardiologist appointment was canceled for the same reason! Coincidence? Negligence? Incompetence? The level of hygiene care is atrocious. My mother in law was never without a UTI infection. Her incontenince was a major problem with the staff. She was often left the entire day unchanged from the night before. Both my wife and I were frequent flyers in filing online complaints with ACHA, Agency for Health Care Administration. After an inspection visit things would improve for about a day or two. Then right back to the same old poor care. In fact, it was after one of their visits that my mother in law and sister in law were finally put together in the same room. A move we had been requesting for over a year. The food service was a constant complaint to ACHA and Harbourwood administration. NOTHING CHANGED. A medically tailored diet for patients is a non existent thing! My MIL needed her food cut up small - the food service people refused to do it. Refused! My SIL was most often given foods she was not supposed to have or requested not to have. No one cared. So all the care that you would want and expect from a nursing facility for your loved one, such as hygiene, nutrition, a safe caring environment and medical supervision you will not get at Harbourwood. Find another facility. If one good thing can come from two deaths in my family please let it be that you look elsewhere for your loved one.

The State has closed two cottages due to the infestation and poor conditions (full of roaches). The director, Dawn Grady, is a horrible human being who only cares about filling the place and residents are dying due to neglect. I regret sending my mother to Pacifica Bellair for the 8 months that she resided there, ending up with a huge hematoma that bled for two weeks. One of the residents, a little old lady that lived in the same cottage than my mother, was sent to the hospital with maggots in her legs and private parts. She died in the hospital. This place SHOULD BE CLOSED and Dawn Grady should not be working with our fragile loved ones.
