My sister gave me this hoodie for my birthday. She doesn't spend $200 on clothes. That's why she picked it -- she wanted to get me something that would last, and she saved for it. I washed it one time. The zipper broke. On a zip hoodie, that's the whole garment. I can't wear it, and it isn't something I can fix myself. I didn't want to make this a thing. I called, I emailed, and I used the live chat, and each time I asked whether there was anything you could do -- a repair, a replacement zipper, a tailor you work with, anything at all. The answer was no every time. Nobody offered me a case number or a next step. I understand that a zipper can fail. Manufacturing isn't perfect and I wasn't expecting perfection. What I was expecting was that when something goes wrong in the first week on a $200 piece, the company that made it would want to make it right. That's what the price is supposed to mean. The hard part isn't the money. It's that every time I see it hanging in my closet I think about my sister spending more than she should have, on something I can't wear, from a company that wouldn't help. I have to share this because it genuinely made me laugh. I walked in and casually asked if there were any sales going on. They said no, which is totally fine. It's Abbot Kinney, not an outlet mall. I wasn't expecting discounts. I still wandered toward the back to browse, and another woman was doing the exact same thing, so clearly I'm not the only one who checks. Then I overheard one of the sales guys say to another employee, within earshot, "Why would we have any sales?" followed by laughter. And I thought... wow. Okay. That's not great salesmanship. It came off dismissive and inconsiderate. Talking about a customer like that while they're still in the store just isn't a good look. Maybe he was having a bad day. Who knows. I ordered a few size XL items online. The items I wanted happened to be on sale, so I thought, "Why not?" When my items arrived a few weeks later, everything was size small. Thinking I had made a mistake, I checked my online order and discovered I had been sent the wrong size. How can they get this so wrong? We all make mistakes, so it was no big deal. I was going to visit Venice Beach and decided to take my merchandise to the Venice Beach AN store to exchange my items in person. The store is located on a stretch of trendy Abbot Kinney Ave. The store itself is lovely and well-maintained, with inventory displayed at every table, shelf, and counter. Customer service, on the other hand, was the reason for my one-star review. No one welcomed me, no one ever approached me while I browsed the store, nor was I so much as acknowledged while I walked down each aisle. This was a significant failure on the employees' part, as customer service is a considerable item in my book. I finally had an employee make contact with me when I approached the counter. I inquired about exchanging the small-sized items I had received in error. I was advised that to return any items, they would need to be approved by a manager. Believing that this young female employee did not hear my request, I made it clear that I was not trying to return anything but was solely seeking to exchange a few items for a larger size. Once again, I was advised that it would have to be approved. Ohh ok. I waited a few minutes, hoping this employee would speak to someone, but oddly, she never moved or spoke to anyone. After a few minutes, I asked, "Sooo, are you going to have my request or?? What are we doing??" The female employee replied, "Oh yes. It has been approved, but you can't receive the sale price, so you'll have to pay our current full price". WHAT! "First of all, who made this decision, and second, this was NOT my mistake". After going back and forth a few minutes, the female employee finally agreed to exchange my items for new ones, and as soon as I was done, I practically flew out of the store. The merchandise is good, but customer service was a HUGE turnoff for me. For this reason, along with all the negative reviews, I may never purchase another item from Aviator Nation. read more

I love, love, love Aviator Nation because it is effortlessly chic, super comfy and it looks stylish with minimal effort. This brand is definitely relaxed, casual and not designed for staying at home. The vintage distressed retro inspired pieces are a plus for me. My reason for 3 stars is because of their customer service and/or return policy. I ordered a sweatshirt on line (size L) with a 20 percent discount. When I received my package it was a size XS. This is the second time that I received an on-line order with the incorrect size. As soon as I noticed the size, I knew I wanted to exchange it for the exact same item in the correct size. I visited the location near Venice Beach and was upset because I walked into the store and explained to the employee that I received the wrong size and wanted to exchange it for the correct size. At that point, I did not accuse the company of sending me the wrong size. Even though I know I ordered a large and this was the second time that this has happened. Once I was complete with my explanation the employee advised they did not have any more of the same sweatshirts and she was unsure if I could return it. I asked if I could get the same item in a different color and she replied with a yes. She went on to ask another employee if they had any in stock. The employee replied with a "NO." I walked up to a table that had a variety of sweatshirts and looked directly at the item I was looking for. I pointed it out and the employee said, oh I didn't know we had any left. I asked for my size and went back to the cash register with the original employee that was assisting me. Once she started the transaction, she said she wasn't sure if she could give me the 20 percent off. Really? You had to ask a manager, if I can get the discount on the same item, just a different size. That's ridiculous, when you are paying $200 for a sweatshirt. Needless to say. I will most likely not purchase anything on-line anymore because of their return policy. If it is discounted and their mistake, I DO NOT want to be stuck with an over priced piece of clothing that will stay in my closet. Their return policy should be a bit more flexible, when you are paying that much for super casual clothing. read more

A year since my first review, and I'm still a huge fan of Aviator Nation! My most recent addition is from their faded collection, and I absolutely love it. That said, I'd love to see more color variety--especially in earth tones like rich greens or a deep brown with retro-inspired stripes. It would be such a cool 70s vibe! Like I mentioned before, AV sweats are insanely comfortable. This time of year, I occasionally find myself zipping up and even sleeping in them because they're just that warm and cozy. Perfect for chilly evenings or lazy mornings. One funny thing about Aviator Nation is how popular it's become. It's not uncommon for me to cross paths with 4-5-6 other people rocking AV while strolling my neighborhood or grabbing coffee. Case in point: I had a whole conversation with a lady at Coffee Bean who was rocking the exact same AV sweatsuit as me--down to the Birkenstocks (seriously, smh!). She was older, super cool, and thankfully had the sense not to disclose the price when my curious mom started asking questions. Lol! As for customer service, it's been smooth sailing. Pros: Store has workout classes (first one free) and the staff had time to talk to me about my issue Cons: Ordered new, non-clearance merchandise) and received my goods and they seemed quite worn in texture. I brought them in person here and the staff said "I see what you mean" and said a manager would be calling me and could bring new items from the Malibu store to compare. Nothing happened. then I called the store, they said I would get a call back, and again a week has gone by with zero follow-through. I can tell they are taking too-used or stained merchandise returns that self-respecting stores would damage out and donate or give to staff but they are reselling them as new. Hoped to love this brand when a friend told me the sweatshirts were made entirely in CA. Parking was difficult but we found some street parking a few block away. I studied online all the items that I wanted to try on but they were out of all the styles and sizes I needed. Disappointed since I drove an hour out of my way just to try on their hoodies. The young lady helping me was wonderful and sweet. Just wish they had more sizes and colors there. I called and emailed for 12 days straight the only response I got via email was "what is the problem?" Two stars because the store is cute, but zero stars for the employees' gross attitudes. We walked in and were greeted with a rude "um just so you know we close at 9". I've heard this tone paired with this line before; it comes when you walk into an establishment 5 min before they close. Embarrassed, we looked at the time and it was just before 8:15... so like... not even close to 9. Two of our other friends came in shortly after and were "greeted" in the same way to which they responded, "do you really think we are going to spend 40 minutes here?" The girls proceeded to mean mug us as we made our way through the store. Never have I EVER had an employee give me the "we are about to close" almost an hour away from closing. We also got the vibe that they were treating us as if we couldn't afford the apparel way. I purchased a hoodie during the Memorial Day sale. When I got home, I noticed a black stain on the front of the hoodie. I called Aviator Nation shortly after purchase and was told the item is a final sale and there is nothing the manager could do. I wanted to exchange for the exact sweatshirt without the stain. The manager said that's why it was on sale. The store had at least 15 of the same sweatshirt, all on sale. I called and left multiple messages with Aviator Nation's customer service and also sent emails, no response and it's been over a week. Next step is disputing the charge with American Express. Familiar with and a raving fan of AN hoodies, I know that this will be my other go-to hoodie that will hold up wash after wash.
