Even though I'm usually not a huge fan of pizza, I was this day and Aviator came through. I got a small pizza since my friend is vegetarian and I refuse to not eat meat so we can't share. I thought it would be a lot to eat a whole pizza but it was actually quite, effortless. I finished it off. And two pints of beer. Then another one pint. Life, is quite effortless. I am so happy that we stopped by last night for dinner. The guys upfront were incredibly nice and let us sample some of the beer (they have a huge selection on tap!). We each ordered two small pizzas (nacho, some garlic pizza that I added bacon to) and they were delicious! I'm not used to really enjoying a thicker crust, but this one as crispy on the bottom and chewy in the middle. So good. And to top it off, the guys from the front gave us a complimentary dessert pizza. I think they were doing it for the soft opening and man did it seal the deal. Same delicious crust covered in cinnamon and sugar and drizzled with icing. We ate half there and warmed up the rest this morning for breakfast. So yourself a favor and stop by. read more

Great pizza. First time trying I was on a month long vegetarian diet so I tried out the veggie pizza. Fresh and delicious. My next time I ordered the bacon cheeseburger pizza to celebrate being a meat eater agin (Tip: make sure to add the candied pickles)!! Staff is friendly. Both times I've been, the owner took the time to come out and ask how the meal was. The restaurant is clean and I like the aviation theme that goes with the name. I'm looking forward to trying this place in the spring with a cold beer on the patio. Good selection of beers on tap and have wine as well. My only complaint would be that there are no pizza by the slice options. I think it would be worthwhile for them to have a few pizzas to choose from and just rotate them out. I had a good pepperoni pizza and my husband had a REALLY good calzone. The fizzy drinks were good, we hadn't planned out a DD so we didn't drink, but they had 25 different beers there on a menu. Easy parking, friendly servers, and we also tried the cinnamon pecan dessert, which was also quite tasty. Our friends tried the South Austin and enjoyed it, it was all very pretty too. read more

I recommend asking the staff to run the pizzas through the oven a little longer e.g. "extra crispy" I've been frustrated that multiple pizzas we've purchased here are under-cooked. We ended up throwing out most of the last pizza we bought. I also recommend eating in so if they don't make the it right you can ask for another. Pros: * Great service, nice atmosphere, lots of good drink options * Really nice outdoor area, great in some of the cooler months * One of the better grinders (sandwiches) I've had in Austin Cons: * More expensive for what seems to be an average pie. Pizza has solid ingredients and good cheese, but I seem to always add a lot of red pepper and Parmesan to my food just because it's not exactly popping with flavor. * Could do without the TVs but there are not so many that you can't sit facing away from them. This place has to be up there amongst the best pizza in Austin. Crust is super light and airy and doesn't even need the dipping sauces (the ranch is outstanding if you need it) I don't usually eat pizza crust but can't help myself with these. Toppings are really creative and well paired. Pizzas aren't overloaded with toppings either, and that's the RIGHT way to do it. Prices are REALLY reasonable too. Why on earth are people still eating junk pizza at the likes of dominoes and papa John's when, for pretty much the same price, they could get fantastic pizza, with fresh ingredients from here. Every single team member I have interacted with at this location (on 3 occasions in 2 weeks) have been super friendly, chill and eager to help. I think I've found my favorite pizza spot in Austin. This place we unexpectedly good. We were visiting from Houston so we wanted to try out something close to our hotel. We found this place and decided to go for it. The pizza was doughy but light. It was very intriguing. When it gets to you, you look down and go wow that going to be thick! But biting into it it was nice, light and chewy. We got a beer, fountain drink, 14 inch pizza and focaccia cheese bread for $30. We should have picked the 12 inch since we had the cheese bread (we had lots of leftovers). The cheese bread was kinda disappointing. The bottom was under cooked so it was very doughy but it had crispy cheese around the edges which made up for it. Our table neighbors had the cinnamon dessert which looked too good to pass up so we ordered one. It was pretty good. Lots of icing (which is the best part ) My BF liked this more than anything. The owner took my order ( I recognized him from the Yelp pictures lol) He was very nice and had great customer service. His wife delivered our pizza and was very helpful bringing us plates and pointing out where the napkins were. I even saw the owner in the back making the pizzas towards the end of the night. He came over to our table twice to check on us. Super nice. The tables are family style so you'll have to share with other people. The atmosphere was buzzy and trendy. It was clean and spacious. Gosh, I really did want to like this place! Unfortunately, the pizza was pretty mediocre; the sauce and crust could really use some work. Likewise, their calzone really misses the mark. I will say, however, that their local beer selection is pretty great and I enjoyed the wine from the Austin Winery, but that's not enough to get me to come back. Oh, well. My hair dresser is in the same SoCo plaza as Aviator. So as I was finishing getting a blow dry, I ordered the pizza online, and it was ready when I went next door to pick it up! I like the open feel in the restaurant/ bar area, itself. I ordered the Hawaiian pizza to go, and it was decent. I prefer a medium crust, which has been hard to find here. It's either been thin or thick crust, but Aviator has more of a New York slice, which I like. I had prepaid via the app I ordered the pizza from, and the woman at the register was quick and friendly. Two of my favorites! Though I got this pizza to go, Aviator has a cool out door area with string lights that I would like to try in the evening sometime. Give it a shot! read more

Their Pizzas are OK but they won't knock your socks off. We love the Arugula/Prosciutto pizza, although it is clear that it is just a cheese pizza that they cook and add toppings to after the fact, and mark up heavily. We've found that home-made pizza at home from pre-mixed dough is better, cheaper and more fun. read more

Stopped in here on my first day in Austin. I saw other good reviews on Yelp and Aviator was close to my new house so I figured, "Why not?" I got the 'South Austin' 14" pizza to split between myself and two other guests. It had an interesting combination of prosciutto, goat cheese, and arugula which I've never seen offered on a pizza menu before. The attendant behind the counter was friendly and did a good job of explaining the menu and some of the local beers on tap. Service was quick and the restaurant itself wasn't too full (granted, it was around 3pm) so the volume level was low. Overall, I would definitely return. There aren't too many pizza places in South East Austin which I would consider 'specialty' or on the higher-end like Aviator, so I will definitely remember this place to take guests whenever people come into Austin to visit. read more

I have driven by so many times. Today, I decided to get pizza. The place reminded me of Pinthouse Pizza on Lamar. They have communal tables and benches, bar, large tv and a large outdoor patio. We had the South Austin and BBQ chicken. Next time I would ask for more BBQ sauce and ask to chop the prosciutto or replace prosciutto with pepperoni. Really unsure why anyone would rate this higher than any Dominos, Papa John's or Double Dave's. Pizza made by someone with no idea what it's supposed to be for clueless customers. Let's break it down: The crust/dough. Main culprit here. Sweet. So sweet. No idea who told them to add this much sugar to the dough but it's here. Tastes like desert. It's too much dough and it's undercooked. Pizza needs to be crispy on the outside and slightly doughy underneath. This is all soft, Dominos like softness, and way too much of it. Red sauce is not doing enough to balance out the sweetness of the dough so hard to judge. It seems tasty but the sugar overpowered everything Toppings look super uniform which always makes me think of worst chain pizzas. I guess they tasted fine but I'm overall super disappointed and will not order again. ABGB has a killer Pizza besides beer. Will definitely not order this again read more

I really like the crust/dough and think the 12 or 14-inch is enough for 2 people. I'll definitely be going back to try something a bit different and some new beers.
