Stopped by St. Elmo Brewing company while on a work trip down in Austin. When you arrive there is parking outside the brewery. I entered from the back of the brewery and proceeded to the bar to order a beer. The vibe inside the brewery is high ceilings, exposed bricks, modern, and industrial aesthetic. I ordered the block party west coast double ipa (Block Party is a Double West Coast IPA dry-hopped with Citra, Centennial, and HBC 638, brewed in collaboration with their neighbors at Vacancy Brewing for their annual all-day Block Party). The beer was hoppy and smooth. There is also WiFi available if you need to logon to check emails/take calls. I highly recommend this brewery if you are in the area. read more

Love this brewery! We come a couple of times a year to meet up with friends or watch a comedy show. My favorite is their Karl, but they have a bunch of other beers, wine and hop water to try. There's minimal seating inside, but outside there's tons of benches. They even extended the back area with a tent. There's a little play area for kids as well. I wanted to like this spot, but I wasn't overly impressed by the beers themselves nor the seating/vibes. Most of beers I tried were on the flatter side and weren't super distinct/unique. My favorite beer by far that I tried was the Chuck, which is a sour beer (berry notes). Order at the bar and pick a seat indoors or outside. I got a flight, which allows you to pick 4 beers, and the fifth will be hop water (non-alcoholic). I don't see myself coming back to this spot, especially when there's lots of other brewery options. Had a friend visiting in town and decided to take him out to have a good brewery experience. Since it's located in The Yard we figured it would fun for him to check out other places there with us as well. The interior has a warehouse vibe (similar to all of the places in this sort of compound area). It's a cool place to chill and hang while drinking some really amazing pours. You can also sit outside in an open-air kind of environment. I think the most popular and well-known pour is Carl which is a Kolsch and one of the best Kolsch pours I've ever had. It's easy to understand why it's so popular. Amber (the amber lager) has perfect and light hints of caramel overtones. My other favorite is Lil' But, it's an extra pale ale and those hops really hop! The blend of sauvignon blanc and passionfruit is killer! Finally, I would like to thank them for being so kind to my sweet little fur guy. read more

I was visiting my sisters family and we love a good brewery, so we decided to check it out. My sister has been here multiple times and liked their beer, and I see why she likes it. They had so many great options. I was sad they weren't offering flights because I wanted to try like 10 of their options, I'm not picky about beer but I do love some unique/fruity/sour options, and they had a million awesome things on their menu. The beers I did try were amazing. They have a huge outdoor space with some food trucks, which smelled amazing. We had just eaten, otherwise I would have tried them because they looked bomb. They also have a really cool playground made of giant blocks. My nephew and I played there the whole time, it was a lot of fun. St. Elmo is easily one of my top three breweries in town. The beer lineup is consistently solid from light Kölschs to bold IPAs and they even offer coffee and non-alcoholic options, which is a nice touch. The space is great with plenty of seating both indoors and outdoor patio style seating. Parking option's are decent, but it can get crowded on weekends so plan ahead. If you're hungry Spicy Boys is a must if you're into fried chicken (and really, who isn't?). Patty Palace is another solid option if you're more in the mood for a burger. A fun bonus: on Mondays, they offer $2 Carl Specials and discounted Spicy Boys sandwiches--makes for an ideal weeknight hang. The only downside? Event planning can be hit or miss. On St. Patrick's Day, they ran out of green beer and the food truck special by midafternoon and it's not the first time something like that's happened. I get that things happen, but I'd love to see more attention to detail for big events. That said I'll still keep coming back as it's a great spot with a strong community vibe and beer I can count on. read more

One thing you need to know before you come here is that this place is a card only, no cash accepted establishment. I normally frequent the Springdale location, but I happened to be south so I made it here around 1 PM on a Tuesday. I was surprised that the parking lot was completely full minus one spot for me. I was also surprised to find no customers inside ( a few came later) and was told their lot was used by all the people who work in the area which means there may be more places available after 5 PM when they leave. Most of the seating is located outdoors and they do have a spicy boys chicken truck (my favorite) on premise. There's also another food truck on the property called Patty Palace in case you want a burger. Inside you'll find an extensive list of different beers, many of which you will not find in retail. Seating inside is pretty much no frills and the AC is not up to the job. One advantage of coming here is that this is just one business in a line of several businesses that reside in a very large and long strip center. Ants Beer cave and Still Austin are two other drinking establishments within a short walk in the same center. It has a great vibe and quality beer with music playing overhead. There is an event calendar posted inside featuring music and drag queen events. You also may be happy to know the place is dog friendly, just keep them on a leash. There is a kids play area outside as well. A few other points of interest is that they do offer wine and cider along with canned beer to go. Electric atmosphere on a Friday night, there was a DJ and glitter bar I believe for a new beer release. Very casual vibe. Two food trucks nearby, we enjoyed Spicy Boys, it was really really really good! We came about 6 and it gradually got busier and busier. The beer line was out the door, but went quick. St Elmo Brewing Co is a great spot for a relaxed, family- and dog-friendly hangout in Austin. It definitely deserves points for the awesome outdoor area. Plus, it is dog-friendly both inside and out, which is rare to find. I'm honestly sad I didn't come here with my dog in the peak of the summer, because this would have been awesome! There is a nice variety of beer styles on tap, so whether you're into IPAs, stouts, or something lighter, St Elmo has you covered. One big perk is the free parking--tons of it in the open, shared lot out front! This alone makes it super convenient, and you may find yourself wandering between St Elmo and the neighboring locales (shout-out to the distillery next door!). I am giving St Elmo 4 stars, mainly because the interior seating was a bit of a letdown. The setup inside felt somewhat bland and lacked comfortable seating, making it a bit awkward to settle in. There were some picnic-style tables inside, as well as high-tops, none of which had seating with backs and were difficult to get comfortable on. They also had a large screen, which would have be awesome under normal circumstances, and were playing Chicken Run. Great classic movie, but just not the vibe for a lazy weekend afternoon with adults. But, with such a solid outdoor space and a dog-friendly policy, St Elmo Brewing Company is still worth the visit for a good beer and a chill vibe. read more

St. Elmo has a great selection of beers. Some of my favorites are their Hefe, Heffy, and Kolsch Carl. Mondays are a treat with $2 Carls all day. While the beer is consistently excellent and the space inviting, the service tends to miss the mark. We often leave feeling like a bit of a burden, which is disappointing given how much we enjoy everything else. I only have great service when Daniel is tending to us. If the service matched the flavor, we'd definitely be here more often. read more

I've been to St Elmo a few times through the years and always a good time. Of course it's a brewery so the beer comes first. While their kolsch, Carl, is memorable I especially like their amber lager. Food is available on food truck. I never seem to get past the smash burgers. Service is efficient and friendly but expect lines. And the ambiance? Nothing out of the ordinary if you've ever been to a craft brewery or two. Basic indoor seating, plenty of outdoor seating, and a small performance stage. I've only attended the Thursday Evening Bluegrass which was well attended. The one negative for me is the parking. St Elmo shares parking with several other businesses and it can be tight and difficult to find, especially in the evening. But always worth the trouble. read more

It wasn't just a fun weekly outing--it's where we met many of our closest friends. The staff created something truly special: a space that felt welcoming, consistent, and rooted in community. That's why it's so disheartening to see long-standing, well-loved staff let go with nothing more than the vague explanation of being "no longer a good fit." These were people who showed up, worked hard, and were a huge part of why we--and so many others--kept coming back week after week. When some of them reached out directly to ownership to ask for clarity, they were met with either silence or retaliation. And it's incredibly disappointing to see that kind of disregard from a business that's been such a meaningful part of our lives. This decision is a step backwards. Pleasantly surprised by this brewery. There are a good amount of IPAs, which is always a plus. But more encouraging is how lovely the actual space is. There are plenty of indoor areas to sit, but the outdoors is where you should absolutely focus your energy. We came pretty early in the day, so there was essentially no one outside. But the seating ranged from high tops to benches to adirondack chairs, all of which are lovely options for a brewery. I enjoy visiting breweries but I have not had a chance to visit many of them in Austin. I was browsing the list of bars and restaurants participating in Austin Restaurant Weeks (ARW) and came across St. Elmo. The brewery was donating $1 for every Carl sold. I like to sample a lot of beers or order a beer flight, but my sole purpose in visiting was to order this drink so I could help out the Central Texas Food Bank. From the moment I walked in, I was greeted immediately by the awesome staff. It wasn't busy in there as the brewery had just opened. I asked them if they were still doing the ARW special. One of the bartenders wasn't sure; luckily the ARW info was posted on the wall so she was able to confirm that they were (Sidenote: That was the second place I went to in Austin where the employees weren't sure if they were participating in ARW. So strange). Since I had to order the Carl, I didn't even try any of the other beers (though I wanted to). It's a Kolsch which I like, and I did enjoy it. My fellow Elite Jojuane P. ordered the Gunther. He's not much of a beer drinker, but he liked it. The brewery is a nice size. They have quite a few tables indoors as well as a dog friendly patio outside with a food truck (Spicy Boys Fried Chicken). You can order beer to go (they have a cooler inside with 6 packs). They also have board and card games like Uno for patrons. There's a decent sized parking lot out front, however I'm not sure if it gets really full on busy nights. It wasn't an issue when we went, but St. Elmo shares the lot with a few other businesses. I'm glad I was able to enjoy a beer and help the food bank. I'm looking forward to going back on my next visit so I can try some of the other beers. read more

They also have a really good non-alcoholic and non-sugar sparkling water that has flavor to it. I highly recommend it. Another amazing Austin brewery that is a must! St Elmo Brewing Co has a little something to offer for everyone. They market heavy on their "Carl", which is a unique and flavorful kölsch, but I think the other brews are low-key contenders. Being on the higher ABV spectrum at St Elmo Brewing Co, I prefer the Gary. Gary is a juicy IPA full of hops and very fruit forward (but don't mistake Gary for being sweet). As for anything outstide of brews, I got to try out their Frozen Espresso Martini and... if you're hooked on Espresso Martinis already, you'll love this one! read more

Austin has many excellent qualities-- Amazing BBQ, gorgeous parks and hiking trails, and epic tacos. But beer? Austin seems to consistently miss the mark on producing the top notch beer that many other cities have mastered. But among the average and below average breweries in town, St. Elmo rises above them all. Their IPAs and DIPAs actually have depth and flavor, and the peach ale was a lovely surprise. Bonus points for the game selection, including a giant connect four and play structure for kids. If you're struggling to find the great beer scene in Austin, same. But make sure you give St. Elmo a try, because it might be exactly what you're looking for. Just don't try the hop water. Don't understand it, don't love it, would not recommend. read more

Great place!!! Atmosphere: 4.5/5 I loved this place. Great vibes. A decent sized outdoor space although on a Thursday night we couldn't find a table! I think if they had more spots for groups of 2/3 that would be really nice. All the seating was picnic tables so we ended up sharing with another group. If you're looking for something more intimate this is NOT the place. There was live music, mostly folk which was fun! Something to keep in mind is the inside is quite small and pretty loud. Dogs allowed outside! Beer: 4/5 We got the cherry sour and it was delicious! Staff was friendly and let us sample as first timers here, didn't complain and was helpful! Food trucks out back are chicken and burger, not sure if there are any vegetarian options. The chicken was really good, would go again. The classic bugs are not too spicy by any means.
