Garlic pizza was interesting and the cloves well cooked. Meat pizza was okay but bready to the point of doughy.. For Deep South Congress a nice place - but some great pizza further north. With some care this place could shine. The beers are nice (we did not partake) - they carry good locals brews. Overall okay experience, hope it's better next visit. This is my friend's favorite place, so we had to go for her birthday. It was my second time and has consistently been great pizza and amazing service. Since it was my friend's birthday there was a large group of 10-12 of us that showed up sporadically. I actually showed up about an hour before closing and was still able to get and eat my pizza. They have a good amount of rotating beers on tap. I went on Tuesday when they had two selected ones for $3, so I got the cider they had available. My friend's favorite pizza to get is the Flying Garlic, which I had last time and was delicious. This time, I wanted something different. I decided on the Buffalo Chicken and the guy behind the counter suggested to switch out the ranch sauce for alfredo and to get ranch on the side. This was a good idea since I planned to reheat it for lunch the following day. Their ranch is made in restaurant and I loved it! The pizza was so good that I kept wanting to eat more. Just tried out this place because we pass by it often and we were hoping to find a new go-to spot! The overall price is not bad: 2 9" pizzas and a mozzarella focaccia for around $26. The focaccia came out first as an appetizer and we were off to a good start! Then came the pizzas, my husband got the double cheeseburger one which was pretty good. I got the South Austin one and while all the toppings were on point the pizza dough itself was incredibly undercooked. You could visibly see the raw dough... we let them know and they were kind enough to bake us a new one. Sadly, the second one was also undercooked. I could tell they tried though, the crust was definitely darker than the previous one. I ended up eating all the toppings and taking home the rest (as a cheese pizza) without really a plan to eat it later on. Easy to get to, ample parking, nice outdoor space and excellent customer service! Tried the Sriracha Brussel Sprouts Pizza and Flying Garlic. My husband loved his brussels and I couldn't get enough of the garlic. It was packed with flavor. The crust wasn't my fave but my husband gobbled my scraps right up so no issues there. Gabe, the manager, is super rad and made us feel welcome. Every staff member we encountered were attentive and friendly. It was nice to see families and pups enjoying the outdoor space. Went here last night with a friend to check out something new. This place has been on my "need to try list" since I moved and I definitely was not disappointed! The interior is nicely done. We ordered the ground control with no olives and it was incredible! They don't skimp on toppings or over do the sauce amount. Crust was crisp on the outside and light on the inside. We stopped by Saturday around noon to have lunch. This was our first time trying it out. Not disappointed with the food. We were with our 2 year old son and he loved the pizza. He has quite a refined palate, he would know We shared a 12 inch Margherita pizza & a spinach-feta calzone. We were impressed that the calzone was bigger than we imagined. We thought we would be splitting half of the calzone we received. See pictures. I'll have to agree with someone else's review about the cold marinara sauce; you get a large side of it with the calzone order). We would've eaten more of it if it was warmed up. Looks like we found our new local pizza spot. The pies here are amazing, light airy crust, savory sauce, stringy cheese and piles of toppings throughout. We went with the cheeseburger pizza and had no regrets with every bite. They have a great selection of beers on tap, they also have wine on tap and the pours are very generous. The whole place is shiny and new, dining room and bathrooms were sparkling clean. Service was A+, prices reasonable, and they have an outdoor dog friendly patio. You really can't ask for anymore. I always ask for double ranch base on their chicken bacon ranch pizza and they mess it up every time by only giving it a single base. I mean how greedy are you guys!? We had high hopes for this place as it had such strong reviews and was on our side of town. I don't know if it is because we came in at 9:00 PM on a Thursday, or if something else was off-balance, but the pizza was a let-down. We got two pizzas. One with artichoke and another Hawaiian style. They were reminiscent of a cheap delivery joint, like Little Caesars or Gattis. The toppings seemed fine, but the crust was almost worse than the delivery joints. The photos of the pizzas and crusts in the Yelp reviews, look great. But they don't look anything like what we actually received the night we went. I can only speculate that perhaps because it was the end of the day, maybe they ran out of the good crust and used a "backup" crust? Either that, or they accidentally gave us a gluten-free crust? I really don't know. Sad to say, we were disappointed. It wasn't all bad, the house salad with a wine-vinaigrette was good. They have a nice selection of beers and ciders on tap and natural sodas on tap. The place itself is lovely and has a nice outdoor patio. First off. Excellent management. Kitchen was abit backed up and the manager kindly let us know. We weren't in a hurry so no big deal. The pizza... the pizza... amazing. Dough had a crust and soft warm inside. Cheese had great stretch to tear ratio. Seasoning in the sauce really made it. The manager then comped an app and dessert for us. Very kind of him. Everybody I've met here is super courteous and professional. They seem to understand what good customer service is all about. It's amazing how good of an impression that can make. As for their pizza, it's surprisingly great for an austin startup. The cheese is not oily, sauce is sweet, and dough is classic New York street style... not too thick or thin, and holds up well. Beer selection is good. They don't have 100 taps, but the selection is good (a style for everyone). Lastly, they're in a new building and the space feels clean and modern. I've been mulling over this review for about a week now and I really wanted to give it a better rating, yet I couldn't. I really wanted to like it since it's close by. The positive is that Aviator does have a great selection of beer. As for the pizza itself did enjoy the toppings as well. Still I hardly could tell that there was sauce on the pizza and for me what makes a great pizza is the sauce. The dough/crust wasn't great either. When I do give Aviator another shot I may look to see about other items on the menu cause I did see there were calzones and from what I remember the cost was a bit pricey or I may get a salad. When this spot opened up across from my apartments, I was very excited to try it out. What blew me away even more so than the food was the amazing service I received. My BF and I dropped in for lunch on a Sunday a few weeks ago before I was about to take him to the airport (he is in the military and it was the end of his leave so he had to go back to base). Upon entering, were immediately greeted with a smile and a short but thourough run down of the menu, as well as an amazingly air conditioned, clean and spacious establishment. We didn't order any beer (the selection looks pretty good though) but the host taking our order made sure to highlight the great collection of specialty sodas that they had which we took full advantage of. You MUST try the Pineapple Agave Cream soda I have never had anything like that! We ordered the Focaccia bread sticks (classic style) appetizer and they were absolutely delicious. Nice and airy with great flavor, not too hard or crunchy. They have different herb combos for the Focaccia bread as well that I cannot wait to try out when I come back. We also ordered a build your own pizza, 14" that was more than enough for two people, and could have easily fed three. The pizza crust was not too thin and not to thick, that "Just right" kind of crust that holds up to toppings but isn't too bready. The bacon they used on our pizza was quality, real stuff that ended up nicely cripsy not the processed bacon bit stuff you get from other places which was great too. Aviator Pizza's food was delicious, the decor is very cool and clean, the restaurant itself is spacious and would be a great place for big groups as the seating style is communal (big tables with benches). I do want to highlight the outstanding customer service at this restaurant- our food was made and delivered within 15 minutes, we were checked on two or three times to see if we needed anything (boxes, more parm/pepper, etc) and at the check out, my BF asked if they gave a military discount, and the cashier kind enough to say "no, but we should" and graciously gave him a small discount with a smile. It was a very kind gesture that we both appreciated, my boyfriend especially. I will definitely be coming back here to try the rest of their Focaccia breads as well as specialty pizza's and especially to enjoy real quality customer service. read more

Aviator has been a great addition to the South Austin neighborhood. I'm always glad when a local, non-chain restaurant opens up in our neck of the woods. I've been to Aviator a number of times and always enjoy my experience. The food comes out promptly and the atmosphere is nice. There's even an outdoor seating area. You can order online and then pick up (who wants to talk on the phone anymore?). Although if you do that, you miss out on the massive beer selection, so make sure you keep that in mind. Here are a few favorites: - Mozzarella and Rosemary Foccacia is SO GOOD! Gotta order it every time. - Pepperoni and Basil - A classic pizza done well. I actually think one of the better pepperonis I've had. - Flying Garlic - YUM! Just the right amount of garlic flavor. - El Nacho - Definitely different, but surprisingly everything works really well together. This has now become my go to pizza joint in South Austin. This place is really great and really needed in south Austin. I had their Zilker Salad and Siracha Brussel Sprout and Goat Cheese Pizza and was really impressed. There are a lot of pizza places in Austin, but I didn't have one complaint here. The restaurant was cute, service was great, and food even better. The salad was fresh and delicious, and I happily gobbled it all up. The pizza was JUST what I was craving (having added pepperoni) and perfectly executed in crispy, yet fluffy crust and yummy red sauce. All the flavors worked so well together. My favorite food is pizza, so when I spend a bit of money of pizza that ends up being worse than Totinos, I always feel crappy. But it makes it even better when finding places like Aviator that go beyond your expectations! Will definitely be back FYI. read more

The beer selection is outstanding, the pizza options are unique, and it is clear they use quality ingredients in everything they offer. AND the service is outstanding. The owner obviously has great love in what he does, and it shows in all of the touches. We had The Greek, The Tom & Caprese salad. All were delicious. I came in from Houston to celebrate my best friend's birthday. She decided she wanted pizza, and this place had great reviews so we decided to give it a shot. So glad we did! I got the Garlic Pizza and she got the artichoke one. My only complaint was I wish my pizza had more chicken on it, other than that I loved it. The crust was fluffy and soft, and the flavor of the pizza overall was so good. Our cashier (Tahla- not sure if that's how you spell it sorry!) was AMAZING. My friend tried to pay for our food, which is unacceptable considering it was her birthday. The cashier agreed and did not allow her to pay. She was funny and very welcoming. Towards the end of our meal, she brought out a dessert to celebrate my friends' birthday. The gesture took us by surprise but it completely made my friend's night. I am so extremely grateful for the great experience we had here, and we will definitely return the next time I am in town. read more

Finally made it here on accident after trying to go to Trudy's on a Friday night. It was so packed and we were getting hangry, so when we turned around and saw the Aviator sign, we remembered reading about it in the community paper and did a quick u-turn to pull in. Got right up to the counter, plenty of seating, friendly staff and good food. Now this is our new 'Pinthouse' when we want a close spot with quick food and guaranteed space to sit. We've now been here at least three times, always checked on by one of the owners. I'm pregnant and we ordered the South Austin, and the owner gave me a heads up about the raw meat (prosciutto) and soft cheese as she delivered. I'd already cleared smoked meats and pasteurized soft cheeses with my OB (I'm French, can't help it), but it was nice of her to think of it in case I hadn't. The pizza is really good, though we've mostly stuck with classic pepperoni basil. Not too thick or overwhelming on any one ingredient. If I had to pick one thing I prefer about Pinthouse's pizza it would be the crust (I like slightly lighter over denser), but both are solid. The last time we went, the other owner came out and delivered a free dessert pizza to our table, citing the extra energy it appeared I'd be needing (again, quite noticeably pregnant). We ate all of that, too... Last, since I can't drink right now I can't personally speak to the beer, but my sister got a Zoe that wasn't as carbonated as usual, and the bartender was very friendly and thanked her for the heads up before letting her swap it out for another brew. I tried the root beer on tap just for fun - it wasn't really my cup of tea, but you'd like it if you're into sweet, creamy sodas. I'm more into light and very bubbly. Just personal preference. 2.5* I decided to come and try this pizza/beer joint based on the reviews. The pizza is generally thinner crust but the outer edge itself is a little thicker with bubbles aka air pockets. We ended up ordering the pie with green bell pepper, mushroom, pep and sausage. The dough is soft and not crisp. The dough itself was not impressive. I actually for once didn't care for the toppings. I am used to places slicing veggies on pizza and not dicing them like they do here. It almost reminded me of DiGiorno pizza toppings. The sausage bits appeared all uniform and almost tasted like morning breakfast sausage. I did like how the toppings were evenly dispersed and how there wasn't too much of any ingredient. Yet I do love meat toppings and bit more mushrooms rather than pieces of them diced. I have yet to try their salads which I read on Yelp people like. My husband did enjoy their vast beer selection. I was hoping they had wings which was on their menu months ago and I learned they do not offer it anymore. Very cute location and great pizza!!! Went here with friends on a rainy Saturday afternoon wanting to try this place after driving past it a few times. They have 24 beers on tap with many local brews including Austin Beer Works, Real Ale, etc. The pizza was great and cooked perfectly, we got the margarita and it had plenty of fresh basil which is really what I care about. When we got our pizza the guy came over and explained they messed up and made us a medium instead of the large that we ordered, so they made us a free small pizza to make up for the mistake! Also, I really liked the space with the indoor area being very well lit with floor-to-ceiling windows and the outdoor area with Edison lights and corn hole boards. Overall, this is a nice place to chill and have a beer and eat good pizza. We will definitely be back! read more

I met a group of people here for a Sunday lunch and was surprised at just how much I enjoyed the place! I was dying from allergies and not feeling well and it turned out that this was just the ticket to be able to make it through the day. The place is new, shiny clean, and is probably going to do quite well. I did some small tastings of several different pizzas and yes, they were really good. I also had some salad (a Greek themed one) and I really liked that one. I was watching the kitchen from afar and quickly noted how they were cutting up fresh, whole vegetables instead of the common salad in a bag dump. That right there made me a fan as so many places that use bagged salad use those with MSG to preserve the look. I am allergic to MSG so this was good news. Sparkling water on tap? Bing! That was perfect as I was not able to try any beer due to the allergy medicine, but there were several that looked interesting and others commented positively. I will definitely be going back and update the review after figuring out exactly what I want to have built and enjoy it with a beer or wine. Nice. read more

Really nice place! We had the garlic pizza and they made accommodations easily for vegetarians! Super delicious. Large picnic table style seating inside. Think pinthouse pizza light. Service was quick and friendly, although there was a hiccup with what seemed like a delay when we orders one of the desserts (they're called cinnamon desserts...I'm guessing because someone has a trademark on cinnamon sticks?) but hey, they're new. Beer selection is good, mostly a "greatest hits" of Austin breweries with a few others. It'll be neat to see what they get later on, but for now they have ones like ABW, Oskar blues, real ale, and even adelberts. Will say it's a little weird to see a new place with no automation in a bathroom. Bonus: also saw them prepare something for a woman who was homeless instead of just kicking them out.
