Mom was on hospice for over two years. She had end stage Alzheimer's, was losing weight, and…read morefalling, so qualified. Just over two years later, the decided to discharge her because she was stable. She was still falling, although not as much because she was now confined to a wheelchair and wasn't losing weight anymore because she was skin and bones. They said we could appeal to Medicare. When they discharged her, the date was a month earlier than they'd told us, even though they'd seen her after that date, and the discharged her as dead instead of alive. I found out the mistake from the insurance company who sent me a letter addressed to my mother's estate saying they were sorry for my loss. I spent 8 hours on the phone with UHC, Medicare, and SS before someone finally mentioned hospice and I was able to realize where the false information originated. I called and they blamed it on a computer glitch and said they would research it. On the second call, the person slipped and said they got her mixed up with another patient. I told them I understood human error, but I didn't understand them not admitting it up front or apologizing. In the meantime, we're trying to set up a new hospice company to evaluate Mom because we felt she still qualified, but we're having difficulty because Medicare showed her as deceased. The person I spoke to submitted the correction to Medicare and we waited for it to be processed. In the meantime, Mom declined and we were told she was transitioning and luckily another company came in despite the Medicare problem and began comfort care. On Thursday morning around 10:00, Accredited called to say the Medicare system was fixed. An hour later Mom passed away, less than two weeks after Accredited discharged her. Additionally, the wheelchair and bed she received were broken from the beginning. The wheelchair was picked up, but she never got another one. The bed was still in her room on the day she died. Also, the nurse's notes appeared to be copy and paste, even though they were in handwriting. They said almost the exact same thing from visit to visit and her weight never varied and was higher than her actual weight. They seemed good in the beginning, but the nurses changed and we felt Mom didn't get what she was supposed to. Luckily she was in a facility and the staff stepped in. I don't recommend Accredited or Dr. Campana.
