I'm a firm believer that people love to complain. However, I do believe that this AVIS location does their best. Had a reservation after a red eye flight and what I love about AVIS is that you can choose your car in the app. Now after a red eye, they are still cleaning cars they got from the night before and they're just coming out for the morning. We got to the desk and Joy helped us. We had a hybrid reserved but we did not get assigned a hybrid. Instead Joy upgraded us. However, we were really looking for a car with better gas mileage. While in the garage China saw we looked kind of loss after we were trying to find a better car to switch to in the app. China was so kind and helped us switched as her and her team were bring the freshly clean cars out. However, of course, we ended up switching to a car that the plate didn't match the app. So China called into Joy at the desk to let them know the issue and had us go back in. When we got back to the desk, there was a line. However, Joy saw us and just told us to come to the front of the line. They were so friendly overall and I know how Avis runs is not a reflection on the people that work there. So please be kind everyone! They're doing the best they got to work with. read more

This is one of the nicest Avis rental locations I have seen. The counter on the second floor was full of neon lights, so pretty. They had another counter at the pick up zone. The rental building is separate from the terminal. I had to take the free Sky Train to get to the rental building. My car was ready for pick up ahead of time. I received the confirmation in my email. I also received an express exit lane code in text. Upon arrival at my designated spot, found the Kia fully clean, in excellent overall condition both interior and exterior. I drove the about an hour away from airport and drove back without any issues. Returning the car was easy well. Avis return entrance was clearly marked in street. Upon arriving in return zone, an associate told me to leave the car with keys inside. They processed the return next day around 6am, which made me panic. This was my first experience when an Avis location didn't process the return within couple of hours. But overall it was another great rental experience from Avis. read more

However, a different rental agreement was somehow associated with my account. After discovering the issue, I contacted Avis and was told by representatives that they reviewed the records, confirmed which vehicle I had actually rented, and indicated that the incorrect rental agreement would be corrected. Despite those conversations, I later learned that a charge tied to the incorrect rental agreement had been sent to collections. For the past six weeks, I have been trying to resolve the issue through Avis Customer Service, Avis Collections, and the third-party collection agency. I have submitted documentation, sent emails, left messages, obtained a case number from Avis, and formally disputed the debt with the collection agency. The collection agency confirmed receipt of my dispute and initiated another investigation. What I still have not received is an explanation for how a rental agreement for a vehicle I never rented became associated with my account. The most frustrating part is the contradiction: Avis representatives acknowledged which vehicle I actually rented, yet I am still disputing a collection account tied to a different vehicle altogether. Mistakes happen. What should not happen is a customer spending weeks navigating multiple departments and a collection agency to correct an error that was reported from the beginning. At this point, I have spent more time resolving Avis's mistake than I spent renting the vehicle I actually drove. AVOID THIS PLACE AT ALL COSTS!!! I rented a 1-way car from Charlotte airport to this Atlanta airport location. I was in the car for 3.5 hours. I didn't leave a speck of mess in the car. When I dropped off the car, the person who looked over the car dipped their head inside, looked it over, and didn't say anything was wrong with it. Weeks later, they claim there was "heavy smoke damage". There was absolutely no smell in the car, and I don't even smoke! No one was in the car but me! This particular location has a long history in the reviews of people receiving cars that smell like smoke! This is highly unusual as a feedback for customers to give a rental car business, and it makes me suspect that this location is employing a scheme where-in an employee of theirs, who is "in" on the fraud/scam, will either smoke in the vehicles, or will smoke just before getting into the vehicles, and will leave a smoke stench inside the vehicles so that this corrupt money-grubbing capitalist GRIFTER and FRAUDSTER can charge *you* a $450 cleaning fee. If I could leave negative stars on this review, I would. This location (and Avis, in general) has been absolutely nothing but a NIGHTMARE. And I suggest STAYING FAR AWAY from them and reserving at another agency. I rented a black Honda CRV from them March 29th - April 4st for a trip to visit family. On April 2nd, while I was driving in Suwanee, I was pulled over for no apparent reason. When I rolled the window down, the officer asked if the vehicle was mine and I assured him it was a rental. I showed him the paperwork, the confirmation in my email. He told me that the license was registered to a white Chevy Malibu. Another officer pulled up and checked the VIN number, which was nonexistent in their system! They told me I wasn't in trouble because this isn't their first incident they've pulled somebody over with an Avis rental with bad license plates. They waited for our uber to come before they impounded the car because they couldn't legally let us drive away with the vehicle. I called this location right away and explained the situation and received no help. The agent on the phone offered a replacement, but I refused for fear of this happening again. I demanded a full refund and reimbursement of my uber and to speak to a supervisor. He assured me that he was escalating this to management, that he would expedite resolving this situation. Eight days later, I've received no communication initiated by them or anything. The most communication has taken place via Instagram messages with Avis Corporate. Monday, April 7th, I was charged $449 for not returning the car. I reached out to Avis corporate customer service and was run around and told that I need to return the vehicle before they adjust, finalize and close out my contract. As of Tuesday, April 8th, nobody had attempted to retrieve the car. As far as I know, the car could be in impound still! And they just kept repeating that the vehicle needed to be returned before anything could happen to resolve this. It's very apparent that this location does not care for the welfare or have any empathy for their customers and the dire, potentially dangerous and unsafe situations they put their customers in. Had another officer pulled me over who's never experienced this Avis, I most likely would have been arrested for stealing a car! STAY AWAY AT ALL COSTS. We just rented a car over the weekend as our connecting flight got cancelled. Josh was amazing in getting us a car with so many stranded pickings were slim. But thankfully we were able to get one. Josh was great help and want to highlight his amazing services during these crazy times. Please note we got a Dodge challenger and it smelled like WEED as soon as we turned the Air on. We were warned about this I guess its common for all of their sport cars to smell like weed. So just a heads up. Lastly upon car return I literally filled the tank 1 exit before the airport (charleston drop off) and Avis tried to charge me 6 dollars (equivalent to almost 3 gallons at local price) for what they said was.5 gallons short of returning it full. Which was ridiculous. I emailed support and they eventually creditted it back. Last but not least they say there are no hidden fees but there are my confirmation price was 562. But I ended up paying over 850 dollars (not including the deposit). Granted we were dropping it off at another location. But almost 300 dollars more than on your confirmation is a little insane. Also document all marks on the cars our car had lots of scratches. We didn't have any issues with them acussing us of damges. But just piece of mind take photos. read more

When I arrived for pickup (on time), I was directed to a Honda Ridgeline instead. This was not the class of vehicle I reserved or paid for. I was told nothing in the premium class was available. Only after I started calling around to other rental companies did an Escalade "suddenly" become available at the same location--about 30 minutes later. I accepted it and continued on a 600-mile drive. That's when the real problems began. Both GPS and adaptive cruise control--two major features I needed and expected in a premium rental--were not working. I tried troubleshooting myself, only to learn it was a mechanical issue that needed dealer service. I called Avis the next morning, and they told me to go to a local branch for a vehicle swap--but they couldn't tell me which branches had a comparable car in stock. I visited two locations, including Reagan International Airport, with no success. I ended up stuck using a defective vehicle for my entire trip--without GPS or cruise control, and after paying a premium price specifically to avoid problems like this. I explained everything upon return and was told a manager would follow up and adjust the bill. That never happened. Be careful...you may never get your lost item back! Avis Budget Group's failure to properly manage a Lost & Found issue at its Atlanta College Park return location. As a result of the company's lack of response and operational oversight, I incurred approximately $1,000 to replace my personal Audi key fob--an expense that was fully avoidable had Avis followed reasonable procedures. This is the first time in decades that I have left a personal item in a rental vehicle. I took immediate corrective action and paid to overnight their key back in hopes I would get mine back. Avis, however, failed at every stage of the process: no one answered phones, responded to voicemails or emails, claim tickets or even respond to their own customer service center to retrieve the key that was known to be onsite. Not only is it going to cost me just over $1000 to replace my key fob, I paid another $75 to do the right thing and overnight via FedEx their own key back so they did not incur an issue. read more

I've rented from Hertz in the past and haven't had any issues with them (even with the AI scanner at the same ATL airport location), but this time they didn't have the vehicle I needed, which was a 7 passenger SUV, so I went with Avis. They were also cheaper too! My pick up was for 10am on a Saturday, I got there around 9:45am. This was my first time renting with Avis as a Preferred member so I wasn't sure what to expect. There was a super long line at the counter, and I recall getting an email saying that as a first time Preferred member renter, to visit the counter. Also, the app was telling me to choose my car but only a sedan was showing, so that was odd to me. I wasn't sure what was what, so I waited in the line. There was a couple behind me and something just told me to ask if they've rented with Avis before and they said yes, but not this location. Thankfully her husband said he'd find out where we had to go as Preferred members, to which he found where it was (thank you Juan and Candi!). Once at the garage, it was just like Hertz where my name should be on the display and they had a space listed. I went to it and saw that there was a RAV4. I checked inside and noticed it's a 5 passenger vehicle. I went back to the display to make sure it was the right spot and it was, but noticed that someone else's name was for the same spot. Thankfully I was able to find a gentleman at the counter right behind the vehicle spot and asked if that was a mistake because 2 people had the same spot. He then went to the booth and worked some magic - he was able to get me the Toyota Grand Highlander next to the RAV4 (Sorry for whoever's name was on that spot!) I checked for damage and noticed 2 scratches. As I was heading out, I mentioned to the exit gate agent about it and she told me to flag someone when I returned it and keep the video for 30-45 days. I returned the car the next day to the same location around 7:30am. The customer service booth wasn't open but one of the parking attendants were able to flag someone down for me. I spoke to the young gentleman that I wanted to let them know about the existing damage. When I showed him the damage, he gave me clarification on whether that would count against me or not. He did recommend to keep the video for the same length of time as the exit agent told me, but said that I'll be fine. All in all, it started off bumpy, but honestly I can't say I had any issues. But let's hope I don't get a surprise bill as this was very recent! Also, huge shoutout to the gentleman (didn't get his name) who helped me get the SUV size I needed and Prince and Bobbi who explained the process of reporting existing damage when I returned it. Remember, inspect the vehicle before you leave, inside and out. Take photos or a video showing any damage and save it! If you do spot damage like a dent or something like that, you can ask for an existing damage form to fill out (either with the exit gate agent or from an attendant) and keep the evidence. read more

They charged me $450 dollars for smoke smell when I don't even smoke!!!! I travel 75% for work and rent cars all of the time, I've never had an issue with this as I do not smoke and am respectful of every rental car I've ever had. I told them I would gladly testify in court that I do not smoke and had no one else in the vehicle with me AT ALL that would have been smoking. I let them know I received the car in this condition and they only offered to refund 50% of the charges even though I didn't do the damage. I asked for a receipt of the cleaning charges needed for the damage I didn't commit and they wouldn't send that to me. I also asked for the prior renters damage report which they refused to give me. In the damage report they sent to me they included a picture of a smoke bud that I didn't see at all in the vehicle!!! They are telling me it was left in the vehicle by me when I don't even smoke. They also said because I didn't let them know about it the charges are on me. Are you fucking kidding me???? I asked if they saved the bud so that I could test it against my DNA in court and they said they couldn't provide me with it. The picture of the bud was not even shown as being in the car. Wife rented a vehicle on February 6. Returned February 8 less than 48 hours later. Barely drove the vehicle. Before return, gas tank filled up at a gas station near the rental return. Vehicle had no damage and was returned as we initially received it. Upon return of the vehicle, the employee noted no damage but charged fuel charge. We disputed the fuel charge, Avis reversed it. February 14 we received a notice alleging we returned the vehicle with damaged glass. We disputed it in writing via email and asked for proof of damage during our rental. Avis replied they had no photographic evidence but had a note in a maintenance log from after the rental. They did not share that log entry. February 25 Avis charges $359 charge on my credit card, which Avis states is for $330 damage repair and $29 admin fee. This company should not charge money for something that is both false and there is no proof of. read more

Avoid like the plague. I waited in line for 1 1/2 hours on a Thursday morning, because "They had no cars available". The customer service reps did nothing to communicate the wait issues to the over 40 people waiting in line. They just sat around and talked amongst themselves. I was already running late due to the delay in line so I accepted the fist vehicle that came available. I was given a car that wasn't cleaned in the interior (there was trash in the center console...no biggie, as I was willing to take anything if it meant I wasn't going to be late for my meeting) and when I was on i-285 when I saw the tire pressure was extremely low in the back tires. When I went to fill up the tank on a Hybrid Jeep Wrangler, for love or money I couldn't find the gas cap release button....and I SEARCHED for it, but couldn't waste more time, as I had to return the car and catch my flight. I was charged $150 for 15 gallons of gas. You do the math. That is almost $9 a gallon when the average is $3.00 And then I was charged an additional $54 dollars in fees on an already prepaid booking through Capital One. Avoid at all costs. Rude, unhelpful, uninformative staff, absurdly long wait times and you won't even get the vehicle class you reserve and paid for...unless you want to wait another hour or two. read more

I don't know why so many people have horrible reviews about every Avis location. I, knock on wood, have never really had a major issue. As an Avis Preferred member I often don't even deal with any of the employees. I have my car assigned to my upon landing and go straight to the designated spot. The hike from the terminal is a bit long but the plane train gets you there in a timely manner. I drove a Nissan Altima which was clean and drove well. The only complaint I have is upon receiving the car it had low windshield fluid notification and a notification that service was due. Every time I turned the car on I had to clear the notifications which was annoying. Returning the car was super easy. The gentleman who received the car was friendly and I had my receipt emailed to me within minutes. Another great rental. read more

I arrived to pick up my one way rental (Atlanta-chicago) and they had my standard suv available ELECTRIC!! I do not drive electric and have no interest in starting during a road trip. They upgraded me for "no charge" to a larger suv which is what they had available. The tire pressure alarm inducted low tire pressure so I had to go fill the tire and the key fob alarm inducted low battery so you had to stand next to the car to lock it with the fob. I just got my bill and THEY CHARGED ME FOR AN UPGRADED SUV. The agent was very distracted on her phone during my check in. I should have gotten in writing that I wasn't being charged for an upgrade. The AC stops blowing hard when you stop for a red light or stop sign. I got their bumper to bumper insurance because ATL drivers are completely unhinged. Accidents everywhere.
