I was charged a $450 cleaning fee for what amounted to basic dirt and lint, standard results of driving a car for a few days. Initially, I was sent a vague letter notifying me of this charge. DO NOT RENT FROM AVIS -- SCAM ALERT Avis falsely accused me of damaging a windshield and charged me $600 for damage I did not cause. The vehicle was returned without issue, no damage was pointed out at drop-off, and yet days later they suddenly "found" windshield damage and billed me anyway. This is not an accident and it's not rare. Numerous customers report the exact same thing: damage claims appearing after the car is returned, vague or nonexistent proof, and a corporate system designed to make disputing charges nearly impossible. It feels like a deliberate revenue tactic, not an honest mistake. Avis provided no credible evidence that the damage happened during my rental, yet still took my money. That is unacceptable. Charging customers hundreds of dollars after the fact for unproven damage is predatory, unethical, and dishonest. If you rent from Avis, assume you are guilty until proven innocent--and even then, expect to fight. This is a cautionary tale to apply to Avis; we prepaid a rental for a large SUV for my daughter's wedding in London. The SUV they gave us was not what we reserved BUT, for an additional $30 a day we could use this SUV over here that will fit. We agreed and the end result was when we returned the SUV 3 days later they smiled and said we'll email ur receipt. We never received the receipt and they billed my CC an additional $876. On top of the prepaid $370 they already were paid for the 3 day rental! This was in April and it's EOM July we r still waiting and fighting with Avis. This place is a terrible rental car company. the vehicle they rented us stopped dead in the road in the fast lane of the highway. We were told it would be hours before they could get anyone to us. When we were finally able to start the vehicle again, we were told to try and bring it into an Avis rental nearby. We were told not to worry about the fuel due to the trouble. I had reserved a van at several locations for a one way rental to Florida including the rental location in Cumming. The week before the rental, I started getting phone calls from the different rental companies saying no vehicles were available due to the vehicles going to NC because of the hurricane (including the Cumming branch). On the day of my reservation I spoke to Sunil and told him my situation. He said come to the branch and we will get you something. BAIT AND SWITCH My fiance and I made a pre-paid reservation with Budget for a SUV to pick-up at the Cumming location. We wanted to make our reservation at a different location, but the ones we considered were either closed or the SUVs were out of stock. We were driving out of state for our wedding and we needed the cargo room of a SUV for essential items we were bringing down. Upon arrival at the Cumming location, despite having a pre-paid reservation, my fiance and father were told there were no SUVs available at the Cumming location. Instead, my fiance was given a sedan. The contract and website state we are suppose to be given at least the EQUIVALENT within the category of what we rented. A sedan is not the equivalent of a SUV! When my fiance returned home I had him call the Budget location as I was quite upset. He put it on speakerphone so we would both be able to speak with them. The first person listened, said hold on and put us on hold. The guy who then answered the phone was completely unprofessional and flat out rude. He was TALKING OVER US and RAISING HIS VOICE, which was very ABUSIVE! His attitude was very much that we should take whatever he gives us and we're not allowed to say anything. We couldn't get a word in about why we selected the SUV in the first place because he obviously didn't care. It didn't matter to him that we needed room for 3 people, luggage and vitally important items for our WEDDING. However, he seemed to hear us when we asked if another location would have a SUV as he lowered the volume of his YELLING - except he completely ignored our question. We mentioned the SUV was not in the same category as a sedan. He then stated we could not get a refund because we pre-paid. Yet, we didn't ask for a refund...we merely pointed out the sedan was at least two categories below the SUV. It immediately raised a flag he must do this same practice to other renters. He claimed they would call us later that day or the next - according to him they were NOT closed on Memorial Day like the site said - so we could swap the sedan for a SUV. (They never called...) We immediately called corporate for Budget when we got off the phone with the Cumming location. It turns out in the state of Georgia nearly all the locations are franchises - meaning they cannot transfer your reservation to another lot or have them pull a vehicle for you from another location. You can drive to the airport (ATL, at least a hour and a half drive for us) to see what they have in stock, as we were told. You can also receive a refund for your reservation - even a partial one at the end of your rental - when you do not receive the equivalent of what you rented. Ultimately, even though corporate was much more professional and understanding of our situation, our advice would be to rent from another company. Under no circumstance should a so-called "professional" talk over you or raise their voice. The Cumming location took our money and "reservation" without actually reserving what we paid to rent. Clearly, they had no intention of giving us the SUV we paid more for and the fact the location refused to do anything to compensate was absolutely ridiculous. read more

So, we reserved a van here about a year ago for another trip to Florida, to transport 7 people and luggage. My mother called the week before to confirm her reservation and was assured there would be a van for us when we arrived at noon on Friday for an early departure Saturday morning. The manager was impressed at the rate she secured, since it had increased significantly in the time after making the reservation. Come Friday, there were no vans on the lot. They supposedly had some that needed to be picked up from elsewhere, but they would not be available until later, after we needed to be on the road. A line built behind my mother since he was unable to serve her, so she had to stand to the side so others could be served. There was another customer who arrived after my mother and made a reservation for a van the previous week. The manager gave her a van that had just driven up to the lot because she "had a reservation at 8?" That doesn't make sense; it might have been because she would have paid a higher fee due to a later reservation. Anyway, my father arrived to pick up my mother since there is no van to be had. They were sent to an Acworth location to get stuck in traffic for a van just to find that they closed their office right before my parents arrived. They called back, and luckily the manager's brother operated a Woodstock location that had a Chevy Express for us. They got the vehicle back home to load about 4:30 or 5, much later than what we needed. The manager did say he would make things right when we returned the vehicle to Cumming. The van itself operated just fine, minus the short in the driver's window that did not allow for it to reliably roll up and down. We kept it closed for the rest of the trip and reported it to the company. When my parents came to return the van, the manager took less than 20% off the rate we were supposed to pay. I guess that's his idea of making things right! I'm updating this review to sound the alarm on this place; avoid at all costs! I was hoping they would improve on last year's performance with the filthy van, but they managed to fall short of lowered expectations! My mother was super stressed trying to get a van she was assured would be ready and had to drive all over metro Atlanta to secure it. That is not the kind of service you should provide for customers! If you want to rent a car in Cumming, I say go to the Enterprise next door; it can't be any worse than this place! So, Avis and Budget loses a star from me and is now my first one star review. If you need to rent a car DO NOT rent from Avis Car Rental in Cumming on Atlanta Hwy. I had a pre-paid reservation for today with this location that I booked a month ago. They called me yesterday that they didn't have any cars available. I don't ever take to social media to complain, but this is now the second time that they have done this to us. Instead of offering solutions like a car at another location (which would be inconvenient but still a solution) they just basically say, "Sorry, have a nice trip if you can find a car at the last minute", after having held my money for an entire month! I will never do business with Avis again and I highly recommend you consider otherwise as well. Chances are they will mess up your trip because they have no idea how to hold a reservation. I had a great experience and the guys were nice who helped me out with my rental. I was there for about 10 mins. They didn't pull the car up but they made me go find it. Giving 4 stars because the car that was given has a "Maintenance Required" which is ridiculous in my opinion. They should keep up with the maintenance. Gave this place a try for the first time. It was ok. I have mixed feelings. I had reserved a mini van, however upon arriving I was told they didn't have any mini vans. Reminded me of the Seinfeld episode where the rental car had the problem with "holding a reservation". ;) I was bummed about this and spoke to who I think was the owner or manager. He was pleasant and put me in a nice newer model SUV. Wasn't exactly what we needed but turned out to be a very comfortable ride. Nice new vehicle, very comfortable, was happy with the vehicle. Within 5 minutes of leaving we determined the car was out of windshield washer fluid. We called them and turns out they may not be that detailed on the upkeep of wiper fluids. So we bought some and filled it up. We returned the vehicle a few days early and called ahead to make sure the cost would be adjusted. They said yes and quoted us the adjustment amount. However, upon returning the vehicle early, they didn't adjust the total amount they quoted me. Again, I had to talk to the owner/manager guy. He corrected the error and gave us the credit. So all in all I have mixed feelings. In the end it worked out but it was a bumpy situation along the way. I think this location has newer employees who are not as well trained as others. We would never rent from this Franchisee again, he, Sunil, is not trustworthy. When we collected the vehicle from the rental office in Cumming the first thing we had to do was take it to a car wash and clean it. When we returned the vehicle we made sure to fill it to the maximum with gas, however when we looked at our receipt he had charged us extra for gas, adding an additional $48 to our bill. We went back to the rental location and challenged the charge he had put on our bill. He said he would remove it, and I quote "Trust Me" was his response. Now I have checked my credit card and there are 2 charges on my card for this rental. On the day of the pickup, someone calls and tells me they do not have a car available at all. It is so easy to call and cancel a reservation, but only if they knew the amount of trouble they made in my life. I was going to a wedding and this was my only way to get there in time. Husband just rented a car from this Budget/Avis place. So far not impressed. Been in the car 5minutes and we have found a hair scrunchy to hold the seatbelt in place. The back tires are low pressures... walked back in to the place and informed the gentleman who asked us to drive it next door to have it checked by Havoline. Half a star for customer service and half a star for cleanliness of car ... one star rating. **Update to review. Having this car now for 2 1/2 hours and we already told them about the leak on the back tire we are now flat. Yes we did have the Havoline guys check the tire pressure and they topped it off. BUT. avis/budget car rental in cumming georgia 30041- i rented a car from july 9th, 2018 to july 14th, 2018 and it was to be returned on the 14th at or by 3:00 pm. well coming home from florida we arrived back in atlanta by 12:15 am and should have had plenty of time to get back to cumming georgia to drop it off except the route in which we were taking was shut down (express way/ hwy 400) because of the weather and a water main break. we sat there for 2 and 1/2 hours waiting to get by. you couldn't turn around or go another route and this is something out of our control. we got back to cumming finally and the car rental place budget/avis was closed and there is a sign that says no after hour returns which we would not have done if we could have helped it. well we went ahead and left the car in the parking lot and the very next morning right at the time the rental car place opened i was there with the key/fob to return it. i told the guy at the counter the unforseen issue that was out of our control and he said ok then when he went to check me out he charged me for another entire day plus a late fee. i was very dissappointed in this place because it was a natural dissaster or accurance that could not be helped and when he drove into the car lot that morning i know he saw the car sitting in the parking lot already returned and not to mention i tried several times to contact the place while sitting in that mess the day before and he told me he was there until 3:30 pm that day of and that he was right by the phone. well i beg to differ. he didn't answer the phone know one there did. it just kept ringing with no answer ever. so i couldn't get ahold of him to tell them this. it was all over the new how so many people where caught in that mess that day. there is an article online about it. we have pictures while we are setting there and i went to show him and he shook his head no thats ok. well it's not ok that you took my money for another day when you know i didn't have the car another day and what happened was not any of my fault. i will not ever again go to that car rental place and i will let everyone know what kind of people run it. there are sometimes in life things happen and kindness and understanding should come into place. espeically if you have proof of the situation that was out of your control. read more
