I am very very disappointed in the management of this location. This is the place that I always booked and have never experienced this ever before in my 20 years of reserving cars. Since I've never experienced this before, I sent my ride home not knowing. Yes, I'm waiting for my ride to come back to pick me up. I booked my reservation way in advanced. Yes, I came in at 8:00 for my 8:30 reservation, how is it my fault that people who had a reservation at 8:00 and came in way after me get 1st priority!? Not only this, by the time i was served, it was 8:30. She had preassigned the vehicles the vehicles the day before, where is the flexibility for customers when they are not at fault? Some of the 8:00 reservations were booked the night before. Very disappointed. I was offered a SUV, I didn't want that! It's been sitting for quite some time. It has spider webs and extremely dusty. If I wanted a gas guzzler and a need for it, I would have booked it. I was also offered a car that smells like cigarettes! Of course she's going to say, it doesn't smell. It does! She needs her sense of smell checked. I'm never coming back to this one again! There were vehicles, but none was assigned to me because I came in 30 minutes early. Pitifully unprofessional and inefficient!! My vehicle reservation was made for 8 a.m. pick up. Car is not only not the one reserved, it was not ready. The ladies behind the counter were quite unprofessional. They proceeded to tell me while the vehicle is not on full, they expected me to return it full. When I protested by stating at whatever the gas level is, that is what I will return it as, the one rep in front of me says well whatever it's your choice. I repeated I am not bringing a full vehicle when I'm not driving it away on full. Then the other rep stated they'll just fill it up. After waiting another 20 minutes and watching 4 other customers who came in after me receive their vehicles and drive away, I went back in to ask what was taking so long as their delay was messing with my timeline they proceeded to tell me that they had contract after contract yesterday... I cut her off at this as any professional should know that their inefficiencies are not the problem of the client. The two young unprofessionals tell me I'm being rude. So not only are the folks expecting me to take a different car than what was requested, return the vehicle with more gas than I would have left with, leaving later than my pickup time with the expectation of a timely return, they wanted me to be friendly about it!? The young mouthy one said she would cancel my reservation because she didn't like the way I was talking to her. So instead of saving the sale by apologizing and being accommodating and accountable for their error, the reservation was cancelled. We have another reservation set for 7 days in August but if this is what we're going to have to deal with, I'll be canceling that one too. By the way, they charged my card anyway! I called immediately & was directed to a customer service representative. Francisco advised me to pour in oil and I would be reimbursed and tried to make things right by offering me a discount. The vehicle was not low on oil, but was incredibly dark when checked dipstick. Upon returning vehicle, savannah had a very unfriendly and unprofessional attitude. The van was to be used for round-trip transportation for my 70 guests for the bachelorette party, rehearsal dinner, ceremony, and reception. I was called a week prior to my wedding by the Fresno CA Downtown location to inform me that a transit van would not be available for my booked dates because it was overbooked. I was offered a 5-passenger vehicle instead. I was told to call customer service to address the issue. I called customer service to explain the situation and was told that a manager would contact me in 24-48 hours. I called the branch to discuss this with the manager and was told that I would receive a callback from the manager. I have yet to receive a callback from the manager after over 24 hours. I have called the branch multiple times after waiting 24 hours for a return call. I either get placed on hold immediately and remain on hold with no pick-up or sent directly to the Avis directory. I called customer service again today, where I was told that the local branch had canceled my reservation. I was again told to call the local branch to address my concerns. I've tried, but again, they do not pick up. Ultimately, this experience makes me concerned about renting from Avis Budget Group again. For a "company with over 75 years of making plans and keeping them," I have been very disappointed with their actual ability to keep plans. I stated that I charged it until the gas pump clicked, she said that it need to be filled beyond the "F" line. I asked for her manager and she said I'm the only person there. She was passive aggressively polite. All smiles and scamming me. She also said "I will no longer answer any more questions." When I was asking what does that "F" stand for it not for "full". I'll start off by saying, I should have cancelled my reservation once I got off the freeway. I know when an area is grimey and this place definitely was. My antennas had already gone up at that point. When I get to the "office" the rep was outside doing idk what but I wasn't trippen about having to wait a few minutes. She came in, neither pleasant or unpleasant and just asked if I have a reservation. Her customer service skills could have been better but she did her job and I left with what I came for. The part that really bothers me, which prompted me to post a review, is the condition of the car. FILTH... period. Seats looked like mud had been wiped off one of the chairs. Steering wheel had dried crust from food all over, which I noticed as I was driving home. I felt infested with germs at that point and could not wait to go home and disinfect. So when I do, that crust from the steering wheel was also all over and dried on the center console and the floor. I'm not talking about a whole lot but enough that I noticed and felt completely disgusted. Long story short, I used latex gloves the whole time to drive AFTER sterilizing the car because I just could not get over how gross it all was. I had my damn kids in this car with no choice. There were scratches, marks and dents on the vehicle as well. Like who the hell runs this place? I've never rented a vehicle where the company gave it in such trash condition. Totally unacceptable! Terrible never again!!! Did have the rental i paid in advance for , and people there were very rude!!! Waited in line for like an hour. They only had two people working at the time. Has to up grade and pay more because they rented my car that i had paid for. And to top that off they took an additional $722 dollars because they said I dropped my rental off at wrong place a one way they called it. And i had to call them back to ask why they charged me an additional $722 was on the phone for over an hour waiting for answers, finally they came back and said it was a mistake on there part , i was still in possession of the rental it wasn't even due back yet. Its been over a week and i still do not have the money back they stole from me. I just called and all they can tell me it's taken longer than they had expected. There are certain things that probably should be stated by a rental car company. Like the fact they don't accept certain credit cards. Okay, more to the point, the Chime credit builder Visa card. It's not a non big four credit card (Visa, MasterCard, American Express, Discover). But I arrived Saturday morning expecting to get my vehicle and go having travelled in to Fresno from Southern California, only to find out they don't take Chime. At all. Meaning that I couldn't even use my debit card as a back up. This was after the representative ignored me for about 90 seconds talking with a trainee even though I was the only person in the trailer they call an office. Pathetic all the way across the board. I got a giant nail in my tire and when I took it to pep boys they said all four had to be replaced for dangerous low tread when I only had the car for a week or so. no refund or discount for me at all for this. Less than two weeks later I get in my car in the morning with a mysterious crack across the windshield with no dent or nothing and no trees over my car.... they said I had to fix it. Over 1k for a new windshield from safelite.... yeah no thanks. returned my car and started taking Uber. it was way cheaper! Rented a Budget moving truck from this location. We thought we got a great deal. They didn't have the truck size we originally rented so they gave us a larger one fir the same price. Ok, fine. We didn't need such a large truck but we took it. We get in and it's filthy and smells. I get that it's a moving truck so it will be a bit weathered but it had a tray full of cigarette butts inside, splattered liquids, the seats were heavily soiled with dirt and sweat. We tell one of the reps who replies "our systems are down" and ask for it to be cleaned up. Ok, not really my problem but I can empathize a bit because their systems were down. He sloppily wipes it but we're already so late after waiting in line due to systems being down so we just leave as is. The older gentleman, whom I assume owns this place, just looks at me with a blank stare when I explain how dirty this truck is. Ok, fine, let's just go. Driving out and we see that the side mirrors are cracked and taped; they don't move. There's no lock on the back door so if you stop anywhere, you best not leave the truck alone. We needed to rent a truck again the next weekend hoping for a much better experience. Of course, they call the day before telling us they don't have the size we reserved. Nice. We ended up going through U-haul which was a great experience. Never again, Budget- horrible from start to finish. Online reservations with Budget is pointless. read more

I have rented a car from here on a number of occasions. I have always received the car I reserved and the staff has been nothing but friendly and helpful. The older gentleman named Leo (manger or owner?) is always doing little things to ensure repeat business and it's working. My only very minor complaint is that the waiting room is super tiny and if they get really busy there is not enough room for everyone. Also, some of their computer/printer equipment is really old. They still use pin fed dot matrix printers (makes me have flashbacks to 1990) and on more than one occasion the equipment fails so you have to wait a bit longer while they try and trouble shoot the equipment. read more

I'm under the 640 that's required to rent with a debit card. No one mentioned this at all while reserving the car otherwise I would have made different arrangements. The owner of the location had the audacity to tell me if I would have called, he would have informed me of the credit check. I attempted to call the physical location 3 times. I was transferred all three times to the 800 reservation number. He was useless and I left feeling angry and disrespected. What a joke!!! Horrific customer service. Charged 100 for cleaning fee. Charged for late fee and I was first one there. Charged for refueling and I filled up the tank. Thank goodness for the 800 number because they took care of everything and refunded the falsely charged fees. My husband and I rented through Avis for an anniversary road trip. The second day of the trip, the check engine light came on and said engine malfunction. He called roadside assistance and they were unable to do anything that night so he was given the choice between driving to the nearest location an hour away the next day, or wait until they could pick him up at an unknown time the following day and ride share to Avis. To save on time, he chose to drive it. He gets there the following morning when they open and a guy working the car returns was extremely rude and crass with him for no reason. Then when he gets inside, he is told that they don't even have cars at that location. This is the location roadside assistance provided him. He had to drive another 20 minutes to the airport location where he got a downgraded vehicle from the first. We lost half a day of sightseeing in Yosemite National Park because of it and because we got into the park late in the day, missed out on a lot of opportunities due to crowded parking. We take the new car to Joshua Tree for a few days and everything seemed fine. When we left however, as we are about to head into the desert where we would be without phone service and any services/facilities for over 100 miles, the check engine light came on in the second car. The message said check oil. My husband had to purchase oil because it was so low. What if we had been in the middle of nowhere in the desert heat and there had been an issue? The rest of the trip was fine, but we were definitely upset about the lost time on a very expensive, once in a lifetime trip for us. My husband called Avis customer support and had to talk to two people before he could get a little bit of compensation back for the frustration, inconvenience and money spent on oil. It's pretty much a joke that they don't take care of their cars at all and then rent them out to people who are relying on their stability and safety. There was another couple returning a car when my husband took the first one in that said they weren't sure the one they rented was even going to make it on their trip from Utah to California. They nicknamed it Old Bessie. That's pretty ridiculous. Definitely do not recommend Avis. The worst car rental experience ever. They didn't have the car rental on time. They then demanded we put a deposit on a credit card and that it matched the driver, so we switched drivers around, charged a fee for that. Then we go to return the car, they accused me of smoking cigarettes in the car and I don't even smoke. I refused to pay $250. I told them that I could pay the fees of the rental on a debit card (as my credit card didnt have sufficient funds, only used for deposit as they demanded), but they still proceeded to charge my credit card card and with the $250 fee even though I am not a smoker nor did I even have anyone in the car that is a smoker. The manager, Phillip, was rude and unwilling to help in any way. After he told me that he will not help me or continue to talk to me, I asked for his supervisors number, he refused. So I called the customer service number. The gentleman I spoke with was nice, but unable to connect me to a supervisor, just documented the situation. And thats it. So not only did I have end up having to pay the bank overdraft fees for them charging the wrong card, my account is in negative, but there is an unwarranted $250 fee that I don't deserve. I have rented from so many rental car companies, and never have I had such a bad experience. I will never be going with this company again, nor will I suggest it to the many people I know in this town. read more

Since I started rented from this location in 2014, they have really upped their service. They know me by name and always have had my car ready when I needed it. Until recently, I have rented weekly from them for over a year and have had nothing but the best service. I like supporting this Avis/Budget since it's the only car rental in downtown Fresno. Which is a shame; hopefully others will catch on as downtown redevelops. Plus I live/work downtown, so it's convenient for me. The cars I've rented have been clean and in good shape. In fact they have a nice variety to choose from. Customer service has also been friendly. My only complaint, and it's a pretty big one, multiple times I've rented cars online weeks/days in advance, only to be told a day before my pick up that they over extended and don't have a car for me. And they don't even offer a solution, a discount on future rentals, nothing - just your reservation has been cancelled. And this has happened multiple times. As a big downtown Fresno supporter and living in a one-car household, I will continue to patronize this business, just with trepidation. read more

I rented a car for a day from Budget to pick up my mother at LAX on 8/6/21. I got the car and noticed it had an order to it. I had the attendant come out she smelled nothing but notated it had n the tag. While driving I noticed the windshield was dirty and used the wipers but nothing came off so I continued my drive. While driving a warning light came on saying "tire pressures low" so I stopped and aired all tires since I didn't know nor did I have an air gauge. Back on the road the light for the tires did not go off. Driving again and another warning light comes on "Oil pressure low" so again I stop check the oil and it was low Do I bought a quart of oil and added it to the car. Picked up my mom and we stopped to eat. While we stopped I called Budget and mentioned the tires the lady gave me the correct air pressure. I bought a cheap gauge checked the tires. Driving back at no night that dirty windshield made it difficult to see. While driving the car keep beeping that the car needed service and an oil change. Luckily I made it home. I return the car mentioned all that had happened and all I got was a "sorry and here's your receipt" what made it more upsetting was the owner/operator was there and said nothing. And on top of that I didn't get reimbursed for the oil. I say that car was dangerous to be on the road. read more

Returned a truck to here from an out of town reservation. I will never again go with this company. The customer service here, or lack thereof, is a joke. First, they tried to say we caused a lot of damage to the truck we rented. We had to do a walk around to point out each spot and remind them that the damage had been documented prior to our rental. They finally relinquished, but then stated they lost our rental paperwork with the mileage listed, and tried to charge us for a low gas level being that they mysteriously couldn't find the records. After waiting 30 minutes for them to communicate with their manager at the pick up location, they said it was going to take time to find it in the weekly log, but they would fax it to Fresno. We waited an hour, calling the pick up location periodically to find out what the problem was, and why we had to wait because they were irresponsible and lost the paperwork. They just repeated that they were working on it, and provided no eta. Finally, only when I threatened legal action if they didn't fix it immediately, they finally communicated to the other office. They told us they would eventually find the paperwork, and let us know when it was sent to the Fresno office, essentially leaving our bill open and vulnerable to additional charges at their discretion. We ended up having to present our OWN copies so that they could complete the walk-around, and prove that the damage was marked already, and that the gas level was correct. What business makes the consumer fix their paperwork disorganization?! Even then, they tried to take our original copies and give us only a photocopy back! At best, they're incompetent dolts, at worst, they're trying to scam people. I don't know if it's to cushion their books, or their personal pockets, but I'll be reporting their shady practices to the BBB and consumer protection agency, and let them sort it out. As a result of their stupidity and poor business practices, we lost 2 hours of wages just waiting for them to correct their mistake, which they ultimately never did. Be aware people. I've always rented from the airport but due to the airports $10 fee just because you rented from the airport I started renting from this Budget. I rent frequently and have never had any problems. Other reviews have said about getting cars that they didnt reserve which has have happened to me several times, but its better than not getting a car. read more

Goddammit Avis.... Rented a Ford Escape and the stupid MyKey is turned on. Can't drive over 75 or turn the volume past a certain level. Always nice to be treated like a 16 year old when paying good money to rent a car. Luckily I got a crazy cheap rate through Priceline. Never book through them directly! No customer service, had to pay 2 day fee for 25 hours as they only bill by day with no proration and they charge a $10 a gallon fee if the car does not come back full. We went to the station across the street which charges 30 cents more than others per gallon. Wonder who is in cahoots with who. Never never again. Nice and polite, but poor customer service. This is a mom-and-pop franchise where employees are very rigid on their rules like closing times, which is a shame because they could make more money if they organized their work better. This is the nearest car rental within walking distance of the Amtrak station (10 mins) and they could take advantage of that (their poor service actually discourages train travel). The bottom line is that my afternoon train was delayed. I called from the train to tell them I hoped to get there in time, but it would be close. I also asked what my options were if I didn't get there. The Avis rep encouraged me to "do (my) best" to get there before they closed. When I asked about options he said I should go to the airport if I didn't make it. Okay, would they transfer my reservation? No, he said. It was very difficult to do. Would he make a phone call to the airport Avis store and tell them I was coming if I didn't make it before they closed? No agreement (i.e., words, but no intent to act). I arrived at 5:50 and called to say I would get there at six. What the guy didn't tell me when I called earlier is that they stop answering the phone at 5:45. I took a cab ($20) to the airport and rented from that outlet. Their rep had no problem pulling up my reservation and while their rates were higher, they were still reasonable and the customer service was excellent. But, of course, my return trip was also by train, so I had to return the car to the airport and pay for a cab (another $20) back to the train station. This blew my budget for ground transport, but they saved themselves 15mins of "overtime" that I was told was not worth it to them. Really? They really don't need the business. Call Enterprise next time and have them deliver the car to you at the train station. read more

I rented a budget truck from this location (or tried to at least) and I made the reservation online a week prior. When I showed up the older man was unprofessional. They didn't even have the truck I had reserved. I reserved it because I was moving a few states away, and they didn't have the truck. He tried to throw me from a 10 foot truck to a 16 foot truck, which I was not okay with I didn't need a 16 foot truck. I didn't want a 16 foot truck. Unprofessional that I reserved a certain truck online and nobody bothered to notify me that they didn't have it on the Lott. I cancelled my reservation then and there after he tried upselling me on unneeded insurance telling me it was "mandatory" when the paper he was showing me said OPTIONAL. That was my second time renting a budget truck and will be my last. This location will WASTE YOUR TIME. AVOID AT ALL COSTS. I left and rented a Uhaul, and moved that day. read more
