Stay away from Avis in highland park. I never thought to check out a car rental location for reviews beforehand as Avis is a big company. However, this tiny location is a small franchise inside the highland park ford dealership. After reading the horrible reviews of this location, this now makes sense. The Chicago Avis location called me this morning (1 hour away) to say the car I reserved in Highland park was now there. I have no idea how a reservation I made in highland park ended up transferring to Chicago without my knowledge or request. I then immediately called highland park Avis to confirm my reservation and an angry desk clerk named Oscar answered, claiming I never had a reservation there (as I was looking at my confirmed reservation.. see picture) screamed at me hysterically refusing to help and hung up on me. So, I called back again and screamed and hung up on me again and all this was even before the location even opened. But it doesn't matter, he should've tried to help locate another large SUV since it was Oscar who canceled and transferred my reservation I had for over a month. I never knew that this could happen. But, before he hung up on me, I offered to send him a screenshot of my confirmed reservation and he refused to let me, so here it is on Yelp. Maybe somebody at Avis corporate will actually care and reach out to me. I was shocked at his unhinged response because he was the one who changed my reservation without my permission. I had planned to drive my son to school and now I have drive an hour away downtown Chicago (during the riots) to pick up a car and then wait in line for another 45 minutes. Oscar encouraged me to contact Avis corporate to file a complaint against him, as clearly this egomaniac angry desk clerk either did not see his job as a threat or he just hates his job and hopes to be fired. Someone who actually likes their job would do everything they could to help others. This clearly was not the case. I would like to point out how wonderful all the people (namely Yvette) were at Avis at 214 N. Clark St. in Chicago in trying their best to help me locate another car closer to me. Unfortunately there were none and I still had to go to Chicago but at least she tried to help. read more

If I could give Zero stars to this location, I would. My experience with the guy in charge (Oscar) sounds similar to others providing reviews. He was unbelievably rude to me and actually refused to honor my reservation for a long-term rental. I was completely dumbfounded by his disrespectful attitude, uncalled for insulting behavior, and refusal to rent me the car that I had reserved. I could see that he was having a very bad day with his patients challenged by another customer. However, that does not excuse the way I was treated. Obviously never going back to this location and I'm questioning renting from Avis at all in the future. read more

This place.......straight trash. I am a very calm and collected person but the "owner" of this independently owned and operated Avis needs to be severely screened because he is a liability to the company as a whole. My wife reserved a vehicle. We go to pick up the car and he tells her he needs a credit card to put the security deposit on (that's fair) she tell him ok me and my husband will go get the credit card as we keep them locked up (we live 5 minutes away) as we're on our way back he calls with some bs saying that he can't do that cause my card won't work on her reservation cause of the name. So we continue there anyway cause I would like to speak with him. We get there and ask if we could just re-book under my name and he says Avis won't let him. I ask why not and he says it's because they're short 180 cars.........(at this point I'm confused cause we were just booked before this as well the website for this site said they had cars....) then I ask what happened to the car that he was GOING to loan to us and he tells me someone already picked it up.......at this point I'm p**sed because it's sounding like he double booked or there was never a car there for us from the beginning. There's no way in the span of 5 minutes of this man telling my wife to go GET the card so we could rent the car that he loaned it...why even tell her to go get it at this point. This was the equivalent of a grimy car salesmen with no spine to admit they were wrong. If I were that Ford dealer that this was located in I would immediately distance myself from this individual for my businesses sake and reputation. My sincere advice to anyone to avoid a headache is just go somewhere else! read more

DO NOT trust anything they say. I had the worst experience ever. The agents lie and the company doesn't care. I requested the best insurance when I rented from the agent. I left feeling confident I would be fine... Which turned out not to be true. They lost me drivers license, I had a tire that started losing air as soon as I drove off. I called on three separate occasions to verify I would not be charged, all three times they confirmedi would not indeed. You can imagine my shock when I received a $160 bill in the mail! I bought the best insurance coverage and still got the bill. The lack of response and unwillingness to stand behind what there agents told me is horrible business practice! Shame on you Avis. If I could give this place zero stars, I would. I had an experience with a different Avis location a year ago in Elmhurst that wasn't very good, but I figured I'd try it again since it was a year later in a completely different area. My mistake. This Avis location is absolutely awful. The guy who apparently owns this location is extremely rude and gives information that he seems to be pulling out of his a** in the moment. I made a reservation through our work traveling app, and made sure I read through the terms of the rental agreement BEFORE hitting confirm to reserve the car. No where in those terms did it mention needing a credit card to hold the amount of the rental + a $200 deposit. Now I know for the future, that's fine. I asked the owner if we could transfer my reservation to my husbands name and put the rental cost + deposit on his card (we recently got married so my credit card name hasn't been updated to match my drivers license yet - that's my fault). He said that's totally fine. I told him we needed to run back home and grab my husband's credit card (we live 5 minutes away) and again, he confirmed that's completely fine. We ran home and grabbed the card. At this point, maybe 7-10 minutes have passed since we left the rental office and the "owner" calls me and says he can't transfer the reservation to my husband because "Avis won't let him". I think it's bs, because why would he say it's completely fine to do before I left and then change his mind? If he's a franchise owner, he should understand and be aware of ALL Avis rental policies. I then ask if we can just rebook with my husband's information. He said no because apparently now they don't have any cars. That makes no sense. What happened to the car I had reserved? He said it went to the next person. So you're telling me within the 7-10 minute time span that we went to grab the credit card, someone reserved another car? I call bs. He said they had no more cars. I went onto Avis and checked if they had cars available for rental that day still, and they had plenty. When I asked the "owner" he said "you can book it but it'll just say there's no cars". He was extremely rude the whole time. If I have one recommendation, DO NOT GO HERE. Go anywhere else if possible. The Highland Park Ford dealership that this little shack is attached to should somehow ask them to leave, because they just have a skeezy franchised rental car "owner" giving the worst customer service to people. I just dropped off the rental car here, guy was super nice with directions and whatnot. The location is a bit tricky as I'm not from this area, but when I called to get directions the person who worked there let me know that they are located inside the Ford dealership. Super helpful!!!! read more

The owner of this facility is a total jerk. We made a reservation and called back to obtain clarity on some specifics of the rental. His customer service was horrible and kept blaming "corporate" for issues with the reservation.We gave up, cancelled the reservation, and went with Hertz instead.
