I have avid preferred and when I got here the preferred counter is closed and they only have one line inside and ppl are making reservations at the counter and plenty of us in line are preferred customers who only need to show our license. So disappointed to see the bill after a colleague dropped the car off for me.... The customer service folks were friendly and helpful but contract quoted $320 and the final bill ended up as $499.59! You've got to be $$hitting me! And that was after I filled the tank with gas. This has been by far the worst car rental experience I've ever had in my life. We landed at the airport at 3:45PM. We didn't check a bag so we went straight to get our rental. When we arrived at the desk, the line had about 7 people in front of us. They only had one agent for the line for avis and budget. Seemed as though the agent for budget was on break, he showed up about 15 minutes after we got in line. We waited in line almost 1 hour. We already had a reservation so the process to get the paperwork done was seamless. He provided us the paperwork and gave us instructions on where to go. From experience , any time I have rented a car in the past, they have the keys in the dashboard of the vehicle and I just look for the car myself. That was not the case here. I asked the agent at the counter outside and she said that sometimes the vehicles are nearby and that they can give people the key, however, if the car isn't nearby, they bring it to people. There was once again another long line of people waiting to get their vehicle. By the time we finally got our rental, it was almost 6pm. There was one lady that arrived after us and after waiting a long time, the agent at the counter outside realized that her rental was right next to us, so they gave her the key after she had already waited almost 45 mins. They seem to be understaffed but also very disorganized. Thankfully the drop off experience was a lot easier. I lined up my vehicle in a line and a rep came by to make sure the gas tank was full and to get the key. As I was heading to the airport, I felt so bad for the people waiting in line to get their rental, the line seemed longer than when I picked up my rental. read more

Here is the summary of events: (1) I was on military travel to Saughley Field in Pensacola, FL from 10 Sept 23 - 23 Sept 23 / My plane flights were from Hawaii to Pensacola on 10 Sept 23 at 1300 and departing Pensacola on 23 Sept 23 at 0600. (2) Getting the car rental was straightforward as I booked it through the Defense Travel System which I picked up at 1300 on Sept 10th. (3) I returned the car following signs to Avis/Budget on Sept 23 @ 0445 earlier than the scheduled return of 0500 on Sept 23. (4) I get back to Hawaii on Sept 23 at 1900.  I check my AVIS app to see how many Preferred points were applied to my account and notice that the rental was still active and I could see the car was rented again and on the move, or worse, stolen.  The airport parking lot tape could verify that, if that is the case. (5) This concerned me because I returned it at 0445 that same day in accordance with the agreed upon time.  That said, there wasn't representation from AVIS at the return location so I left the car parked in the assigned return spot for AVIS/Budget and proceeded to check-in for my flight departing at 0600 (6) I was tired so I called customer service the next morning Sept 24th but customer service wasn't open.  I then called reservations who then transferred my call to AVIS car sales and they said they couldn't help me. (7) So now it is Sept 25th, I called customer service and they said specifically rentals take 48-72 hrs to generate and receipt and closeout.  This wasn't normal to me because I am a 1K United member and travel all around the globe and a car rental receipt has never been an issue with obtaining, nearly immediately. (8) So on Sept 26th, I received a text from AVIS telling me to turn in my vehicle as well.  I was surprised by this because I had already talked to multiple AVIS team members to address this situation.  Very defeating and as if my time doesn't matter.  I called customer service and was finally able to speak with someone who seems to have a significantly higher level of knowledge but promised I'd get a receipt and my car rental agreement would be closed within 2-4 hrs.  That never happened.  I received a quoted receipt/rental agreement, that of which I already had. (9) On all of these phone calls totaling over 2 hrs of personal time to try and explain to customer service that I don't have the vehicle and that I returned it at 0445 on September 23rd, I also mentioned that I have access to see that the car is being driven all around Pensacola and that concerned me more than the representative.  The fact that I returned the vehicle and I can't close out my contract as of 0500 on September 23rd and all the while someone else is driving the vehicle is very concerning about your companies quality assurance. (10) None of the above withstanding, no one from customer service has been able to provide me with assurance that I am not being charged past Sept 23rd. (11) I have multiple screen shots that I can provide as to the status of the vehicle and its location and the various spots it has frequented over the last several days.  Keep in mind, this is all available to me and AVIS still hasn't closed out the rental with me for some reason. (12) On September 27th, I spoke with customer service and this time after giving my information again, the agent was unable to close out my rental and provide me a receipt.  The car is still driving around Pensacola and I still have it as a current rental in the application. (13) After being unsatisfied with the customer service, I asked to speak with a supervisor, his name was Antonio.  I said my situation again.  I asked him to call the Pensacola AVIS to inquire about this car, he did and said nothing could be done until the manager gets in from work tomorrow, Sept 28th.  I told him I can tell someone is driving the car around via the GPS locator on the car that is still synced up with my AVIS app.  He said that car is in the AVIS/Budget lot.  I said how is that possible, someone is driving it around.  He said they can't leave the lot without their paperwork.  I said okay, someone is driving that car around.  He also verified my email and said he would send a summary email to the Pensacola AVIS manager and include me in on the details of that email.  That never happened to show up in my inbox.  He promised me that I wouldn't be charged for the car past 23 Sept 23 at 0500.  I said great, can you please give me a receipt and close out the rental.  He wasn't able to do it. (14) I am telling you this because my concerns have not been addressed.  I can still see the rental in the AVIS app and I can still see someone is driving it around Pensacola.  I just want someone to care about this issue that has authority to generate a receipt and close out the rental.  The Navy wants me to have a receipt by 27 Sept 23 so I can close out of my travel for FY23 which ends on Sept 30th 2023. read more

Reserved since April and it's now September. we arrived to the Pensacola after two long flights we get to Avis car Rental and they told us that they had NO cars available. This was by FAR the worst car rental agency we have ever used and we will NEVER be returning. we also plan on letting media outlet's know about this as we feel like we've been screwed over to the max. They have a local phone number on their contract but don't answer the phone! Sat on hold for 20 minutes before I hung up and called the 800 number. They told me that changes I was trying to make were not allowed. I believed the 800 number agent so I didn't change my flights. I turned the car in 12 hours early because I had a morning flight. I was bumped from my flight. A situation I suspected of happening when I was denied the change request the evening before. I went down to the rental office and was told that the changes WERE actually allowed, that the 800 number agents don't know what they are doing, but because the first car had already been processed (taken in and closed the reservation), I would have to book and pay for a new reservation. Another $75. Some education and training is definitely needed. The counter agents were polite and as helpful as their system could allow. Get rid of the local phone number on the contract if no one is going to answer it. read more

Huge lines once flights land, only one single person working upon arrival. No use of Fastbreak or other advance paperwork car pickup. It took the agent nearly 15 minutes to process the gentleman in front of me; I can't imagine how long the others behind me in line waited. Another agent arrived while I was waiting and instead of rushing to the other computer terminal to assist guests, hid in the back the entire time I waited. Once I finally reached the front, naturally they didn't have the car I had reserved and substituted a smaller, lesser priced SUV for the higher priced, more premium SUV I had reserved. This has to be one of the worst locations. I arrived last Saturday and there was only one person working both the budget and Avis lines. The line was 10 people deep. They ran out of inventory of the car I had reserved and wanted to upgrade me to a Jeep Wrangler or a mini van. Uh no thanks on both. Finally gave me a Tahoe. Returned my car with a full tank of gas this last Saturday. Guy thanked me for filling up the tank as I checked it back in. Looked at receipt later and they said there was 26.4 gallons going out and I returned it with 25.8 even though I filled up at closest gas station. I was charged 4 more dollars for Not bring back a full tank even though i put 52 dollars in. I have a feeling they scam people all the time like this. Watch out. You've been warned read more

If I could give zero stars, I would. Waited over an hour and watched the agent use the same gloves with all customers. When I confronted her, she was very rude and snatched my DL. I prepaid my rental, I was still charged $250 and it was never told there would be more charges. Car wasn't cleaned so believe them when their signs say they care and are practicing COVID precautions. Agent also didn't mention that you have to go to another kiosk to pick up keys. My free upgrade wasn't available either. I will never do business with this location. I came home for a family funeral and this isn't how I wanted to start my visit. read more

Shady business! We rented an Economy Car from June 14th - June 17th and at the airport we waited in line for a long time while only 1 woman worked at the desk. She was very cordial and easy to work with and we got our keys and paperwork, but there was no one out in the parking garage or area on the paperwork to document damage. So I took pictures for my own protection which I always do. There were a few small dings and dents but nothing beyond normal wear. When dropping off, again no employees in the parking garage, just signs pointing to a drop off area and saying you have to bring your keys and papers inside. I went inside and again, one person, long line. She saw me and told me just to drop off the keys and we are good to go. Today, I see that they put a charge on my credit card yesterday (7/14/20) for $1358! No call or e-mail or information at all. I will be calling my credit card company to dispute and deny the charge, but I wanted everyone to know that this is not a trustworthy company or location. read more

I'm an Avis preferred member, but I only expect some basic customer service. I got multiple texts that confirmed my car reservation, and my flight was on time. I was sent out to the booth in the parking lot to pick up my vehicle. The employee there was Jerry, and he was incredibly rude and incompetent. He let me stand there for a good three minutes without so much as a nod to acknowledge my presence. When he finally finished doing what he was doing, he merely held out his hand, which I assume was a request for my license and credit card. Jerry couldn't find my reservation despite giving him my information twice. He called in to the airport desk looking for my reservation, and he stated what cars were available. He offered me only one of those vehicles, which was not anything close to what I requested. He was rude the entire time, and treated me like I was bothering him. I decided to go back to the airport desk. There, the woman was quite friendly and looked up my reservation without any difficulty. However, I was only offered some minivan that I didn't want. I get that sometimes they run out of cars, but if they can take the time to text me multiple times reminding me of my reservation, perhaps they could text me to let me know that my reserved car wasn't available. I'm sure Avis doesn't care that I will never use them again, but they should care that my company will no longer use them. Jerry needs an attitude adjustment and training in basic customer service. read more

Rented and returned a car with no damage at the Denver Airport Location on 8/13. The return was accepted by an Avis employee. An hour and a half later, I received an email with the final bill for the amount I expected to pay. On 10/15, two months later, I received a letter saying I was being charged for a cracked windshield and charged me $210. There was no crack per my two witnesses and the employee who checked the car on return. They did not respond to the calls or emails I sent them when I received the letter. They never provided proof of any damage or that the windshield was even replaced. I received an email confirmation that they received my email on 10/15 and would respond in 3-5 days, but they still have not responded 20 days later. They just charged my credit card $210. I have rented many cars and have never had this happen before. read more

This was the worst rental car experience I've ever had. The line easily had 30 people in it but only two people working the counter. We stood in line for about 40 min before we finally got everything figured out. However, once we walked outside it took another 35 min before we got our car. They don't allow you to just walk to where your car is, they insist on bringing it to you. We were the first in line yet the last to receive our car. We finally asked and turns out the keys to our car had been sitting in the office the entire time. If we hadn't asked who knows how long we would've stood there waiting. Will not be going back to Avis Pensacola car rental ever again. All other car rental places had their people in and out in less than 15 minutes. I agree with most of the other reviews. Went to the counter inside the airport and was told to go into the parking garage with my drivers license and they would give me a car. I proceeded to the garage and was met by a man who wanted my contract. Confused I explained what I was told and he replied, well if you don't have a contract you will have to wait. So I waited for another representative who took my information, handed me a printout and keys all without looking up at me. No one walked with me to the car or walked around it to verify damage. My wife and I picked up our rental at the airport in Key West on June 22nd. The clerk showed up 10 minutes after opening and said "it would be a few minutes for him to get things in order." We ended up receiving the car about 20 minutes after the time we were to pick it up. He said due to an earlier power outage, he was unable to wash the car, but did clean and sanitize it. Once we got to the car, it was easy to see he did not clean it. The floor mats were dirty, dashboard dusty and there was a face mask, bag of opened chips, tic-tacos, hotel receipt, and parking pass in the center console. We also noticed the vehicle had 1/4 tank of gas. I addressed the gas with the clerk and he said "to fill it to a 1/4 of a tank and it will be ok." We returned the vehicle at the Miami Airport on the evening of the 23rd of June with a 1/2 of tank (1/4 more than picked up). I explained to the representative the situation and she said "she would take care of it needless to say she didn't. I wasted two hours trying to get my money back. read more

We had a great experience with Avis. The gentleman who assisted us was extremely friendly and quick in processing our request. The car was in great condition and easy to access from the airport. Price was right as well. This was an extreme opposite of our experience at Hertz last year when we were first given an old mini van with 4 bald tires- when we refused it, they attempted to give us another van that had clearly been in an accident- dented bumper and side walls and again bald tires. The 3rd one was so smoky inside, but at least there did not appear to be any safety issue except the second hand smoke exposure. read more

This is going to be a long one... First, I arrive at the AVIS car rental location inside of Pensacola International Airport to be greeted by Abigail (I mention the name only because it plays a small part later). Abigail, a manager if I am not mistake, I will give some leeway to in this review as I may have come off as a bit of an idiot at first, because I had mixed up my flight cost information with the rental cost, as they were on the same page. That being said, I just asked her to verify that the price she quoted me was correct, $1205 per month for an intermediate car for 2 and 1/4 months. According to her, I was wrong. So I accepted this and we moved on. Then she stated that this rental would be a unique rental. Let me preface what I am about to say next by stating for the record that I am not new to the rental song and dance, have traveled around the world and rented many a car. I am however, new to Avis. She stated that this would be a mini-lease, as the car would be in my possession for more than a month. I said okay and we moved forward from there. Then I was given a task that I would have to complete for as long as I had the car. I was told to call on the 15th of each month and tell her the mileage. I said ok and we moved on. Then I was handed the keys to a Hyundai Elantra. Great! What is that you might ask. It is a tiny hatchback that I could physically lift up it was so compact. As I had already had little luck thus far with Avis and did not feel like complaining, I decided to move on, get this job overwith and turn in the car at the end. My trouble gets worse when the first milestone, the 15th of the month came and went. Being a responsible and diligent customer, I decided to start making calls ahead of time. Called on the 13th, 14th and 15th of the month. No answer. Not even a voicemail. Just rings and rings. The number that is on Abigails business card. Finally, the 16th rolls around and I am panicking, thinking that I will be charged for an oil change or major service should I fail to make it on time. Also, I am working over 100 miles from where I picked up the car. So I did the next best thing and called the customer service numbers on the website and even sent her an email with the mileage. No response. At this point I said screw it. I will wait until I return the car. In the meantime, I decided to sign up for Avis preferred customer website, thinking I can get some kind of reward for the money I have spent on this ridiculous rental for work... Boy was I wrong again! Nope, Avis cares little for their loyal following, even less for their newbies. Calling the customer care number is useless as they "do not deal with that side of house" (paraphrased). Calling the extension specifically for preferred is even less helpful as it is not even the right number on THEIR OWN WEBSITE... Finally, after getting through to someone on their customer care line, I was told I needed to call a totally different number... I angrily hung up the phone and called it quits on that one. At this point I am done caring about this and just want this experience to end. But no, I made one last effort more than a month later, when I return to the airport on a routine trip, and happen to ask about the mileage and what I should do. First I was asked if I liked the car. I said no, too small. Then I was directed to park the car in the return lot and wait for the gentleman at the garage to help me. Upon arriving, I was asked why I am bringing them the car if the oil light is not on. I stated that I never claimed the oil light was on. Looking confused, the gentleman asked me what I wanted then. I said "never mind, I don't even know why I stopped by anymore," sarcastically. He said, "hold on, I will call my manager, but did you like the car?" I said "not really, too small." So he calls his manager. Never figured out who that was... He said that Abigail would call me the next day when it is convenient for me, at a time I would like. Never received a call... Worst experience renting a car to date. Will most likely never use Avis ever again, if I have another option. read more

I'm a frequent traveler and an Avis Preferred Member so my experience may be different than a non-frequent renter. The cars are clean and well maintained, the staff courteous and the prices fair. Rented a compact car for 2 days for under $70 and got a complimentary upgrade to a Prius. Extended my trip and rental to enjoy the awesome gas mileage. I've seen customers irate at the counter but haven't personally experienced any issues. read more
