I rented a vehicle on Wednesday January 25th and returned it on Thursday January 26th, 2017. I also used Avis in Sept of last year in FL, and we had a nice experience. The agent had the best personality, was helpful, and gave lots of good advice for us tourists. This aided me in choosing Avis recently. On Wednesday I picked up my vehicle on Berkeley Dr in Goldsboro, NC. I do not remember the guys name, but he said he has worked there for 10 years. He was beyond helpful and kind. He truly went out of his way and was so friendly. The experience was great and painless. I was even upgraded to an SUV, which was nice. The vehicle was clean, everything was going great until I get to the drop off location in Rock Hill, SC and the experience was night and day. Let me start by saying, I do not like to "tattle on people." I understand their job is their livelihood. I get it. I never ever complain. I struggled to write this, but after talking with others, everyone encouraged me to contact the company. Especially my friend that witnessed my experience first hand. I get to Sears Auto Center and find the Avis desk. No one is there. There is a note stating to call a number. I do so and am told that he will return to the store in 5 minutes. He returned, but it was definitely longer than five minutes. As I gave him my paperwork from Goldsboro, he was making comments about how I was not on "his list" for today. He was muttering about my rental agreement being on paper vs in his computer system, as if it were my fault. I looked outside, and my friend had just pulled up in my brand new mustang that I had purchased. I was super excited, and mentioned to the agent about my new car and how excited I was. My friend enters the store and is in earshot the entire time. The agent goes outside and explains to me that he has to move my rental and inspect it. I say that's fine. I am waiting a little impatiently bc I know my friend has to return to work at the dealership. The agent is walking back into the building, so I ask TWICE if everything is ok. I was positive it was, because I filled up the vehicle, no damage to vehicle, and the inside was as clean as it was when I picked it up. The agent states that "it smells like you smoked in there and are trying to cover it up." I try to not be offended and state that is impossible because I do not smoke and laugh it off at first. He went on a tangent about how he has worked in the business for so long and he knows "when someone has smoked in a vehicle." He stated how horrible it smelled repeatedly. He even had the nerve to say he "smelled it on me too when he walked into the building." So was he implying I smelled horrible too? Then he pointed to the rental agreement and stated that he could charge me an additional $250 for smoking in the vehicle. At this point I was infuriated. I told him repeatedly that I do not smoke and that I did not smoke in the vehicle. I was scared to get too upset bc I was afraid he may get more upset with me and charge me that for spite. His response was NOT agreeing with me, IT WAS that HE DID NOT find any EVIDENCE that I had smoked in it. Wow, I was accused of it over and over, many times after this conversation should have been ended, insulted by telling me I smell "horrible like the vehicle". This is no way to treat a customer. You should not accuse and insult and be condescending. He went on that I "got a good deal on this rental" as if I did not deserve it. So rude. This will always taint my view of Avis. I was beyond elated when I walked into Avis, excited about my new car in the parking lot. The first time I rode in my brand new car, which should have been a special experience for me, I was pissed off and venting about my horrible experience with this agent. I was so insulted, and it is not a good feeling to be accused of something you did not do REPEATEDLY and in the tone he was using. As if he knew I did it, he just could not prove it. There was nothing "smelly" that I had in the car. I sprayed Victoria's Secret body spray on myself before I got out of the vehicle. Was not using that to cover up smoke. A friend rode with me that is very vocal, and he would have told me if my rental smelled "badly". And I smelled nothing. The mgr ended it saying that the Goldsboro location must be trying to unload this vehicle on him "because he knows the rental business games and how they work." He claims they wanted to get rid of this smelly rental so "it's his problem now" that he has to get it cleaned bc no one will rent it bc it's been smoked in. That's all the words I have about this horrible experience. Goldsboro was top of the line, Rock Hill---- THE WORST EVER. You should be informed. read more
