First off, this is obviously a small operation. I believe a lot of these used to be independent, but at least this one is now a part of Avis itself. That said, Jeff Magner still seems to run it, and my five stars go directly to him. If you come here expecting a huge selection, that obviously is not going to happen. You need to understand that he is going to do his best with what he has access to. Plan ahead, be flexible with your timing, or expect that you might need to go somewhere else. Wherever it might be, I am still amazed that at least Avis still keeps dot-matrix printers alive. Maybe it is all rental companies, for all I know. I was in need of a large SUV for a week. Happened to get a Jeep Wagoneer. Not the cleanest car I have ever rented, but it worked. The value I felt was reasonable, and about 20 MPG with a 600-mile range impressed me. Okay, not enough to own one, but having one for the week made me happy. Happier still that I didn't need to go to EWR or somewhere else to get it. read more

The team at Avis is amazing, plus the service is top notch. During my last rental I had left my wallet in the car and the business had closed for the night. I was able to leave a message and the Manager Jeff Magner got back to me later that night. He personally took care of the issue and got my wallet back to me later that evening. Terrible experience! My reservation was with Budget Trucks (owned by Avis), and I did not find out they did not have a truck for me until I walk through the door. Not only was I not contacted, I then had to go to South Amboy to get a truck. They assured me that the additional miles would be covered. So after my 23 mile journey in rush hour traffic, I arrive pick up my truck and am on my way. Truck was fine, but after I close the account I'm now charged much more than was quoted, and only credited for miles to the re-routed location, not the miles BACK. My in town move then became a lot more. Even after contacting Customer service, they only credit me 10%, which did not even cover the additional miles to cover going to the new location. Terrible experiences. The manager has the worst attitude and can care less about customer service. If he doesn't have it his way he gets an attitude. I returned a vehicle to pickup a new rental the same day. He asks if I wanted to keep the same vehicle and I said no, he huffs like a little kid because I didn't want the same car. I pay the money so I have a say in what I want, plain and simple. Definitely would not recommend going here until new management is in place. I'm sorry, but I do not remember the young lady's name ,but she was so nice and professional that I wanted to hug her while saying thank you. So I shook her hand instead. This was on August third when I picked up my rental. Greeting was perfect. Explaining everything in detail, making conversation with me and just being a great person and employee was perfect!! I have done many rentals in my days and this one was number one. Thank you so much for the great experience. I will continue to use Avis after this visit. All because this lady was treating me like another person instead of someone that she had to deal with. This is the worse budget I've ever been to- Staff was rude, management was weak and my vehicle was filthy.

I would not give them one star if I did not have to, they are crooks and do not honor reservations. I called them to rent a truck, I made a reservation, I called back and was asked if I had made it on line, so I misunderstood and thought I had to so I went online to Budget, which I had rented one in Flemington the day before, they were super BTW, and made a reservation for what would have been a total of maybe $70.00. I get there and they do not have any Budget trucks but since I called they would rent me an Avis truck at almost $300.00 for the day. AND they said they needed a major credit card not a debit because they checked my credit, without ever asking my permission. Horrible, horrible company. Especially after having dealt with the one in Flemington who were awesome. read more

Extremely dissappointing. Extra charge for added fuel of $5.01. Even though I filled the tank up before I returned it. Make sure you get a receipt when fueling up before returning the car. Will never use them again!!! read more

This was my first time renting a car in years and I would say it was a great experience! The people in the office were very helpful explaining the car to me and told me where to call if I had any questions when their office was closed. The only reason I gave it 4 out of 5 stars is because they didn't have a large selection of cars to choose from (I have only previously rented from an airport where they had a ton of cars). Rent your car somewhere else!!!! Do not go to this location!! Their customer service is HORRIBLE!!! This is a case where I wish I could give less than one star. I have rented from Avis for years, several times a year, for family trips and assorted travel. My experience this time, from this particular location has soured my opinion and I will never rent from Avis Budget Group again! First, I wanted to pick up the car a bit later because I knew approximately what time I would be returning from my trip. Their office calls me and tells me that I have to be there to pick up the car at 4:30 because they close at 5 and no one will be there. I assumed that my requested time would still be valid for returning the car. (More on that in a moment). So immediately, they charge me for an additional day because my drop off time is later than my rental time, I point it out to the person at the counter, and she takes care of it, by adjusting my drop off time forward without asking. But they have still charged my credit card for the additional day. I call back the next day and they assure me that they will credit it back when I bring the car in. I return the car about an hour after I requested and had to drop the keys into the drop box for them to check in the next day. Call in the morning to assure that I will not be charged for the additional day, since it was only an hour late. (My wife has rented from other agencies, and they have always let an hour or so slide.) The manager, Jeff, says that it isn´t possible. He spouts some lovely crap about the cars being tracked by corporate (I call BS) and that they have to be back on the lot at a specific time, or an additional day has to be charged, so since I was late bringing it back, he has charged me for the day. I pointed out that the cars were to be back so that they could be cleaned and re-rented to other customers, and since they were closed, and since it was only an hour, couldn´t he give me a break and let it slide. Jeff very kindly told me ¨No. Company Policy does not allow that. They want the cars back in.¨ Pointed out to Jeff that I was a long time customer, that I rent several times a year, and it was again, only an hour or so late. I still get the same answer, plus a ¨It is Company Policy and I have to follow it. I´m just doing my job.¨ Just doing your job? Are you simple? Your job is customer service and making sure that the customer rents from you again. I do math, so lets do some.... You and your company got out of me: $80 or so for a day´s rental plus insurance. You and your attitude lost the company: $80 per day rental for each trip I take, average of 8 days a year rental ($640.00) $80 per day rental for my immediate family and friends for their trips, call it 20 days a year for that group. ($1600.) None of us is going to retire anytime soon, so probably 15 more years worth of trips. ($640 + 1600) *15 = $33,600.00 in lost sales just from my family. Not counting the number of people who chose not to rent because of all the reviews that I will make sure to post. I hope that you enjoy the $80, because it is 0.2% (2 tenths of a percent) of the amount that I would have otherwise spent. Great return on investment guys!! Keep up the good work!
