They kicked me off the app because my card was locked and still charged me another week even though i couldn't use the car for the service. i had some issues with my card before but the service wasn't great even before they pulled this detailing fee outta their behinds read more

Picking up my rental car was a breeze, the gentleman who helped me out was nice and friendly. I was in and out of the place, he was able to even hook me up with a 7-seater van but I was originally supposed to get a 5-seater SUV no additional charge for that! This Avis was quite terrible and made me swear to never use the company again. While the people at the check in were nice, the service afterwards (check out) was an absolute nightmare. They didn't tell us they were going to close at 12:00pm though we clearly selected we would return the car *at* 12:00pm. So of course, when we arrived at 12:01, there were closed and had blocked off the parking lot. When we called the main AVIS number, we were told we should have dropped off the car half an hour earlier than our selected drop off time. NO ONE had told us this, it was not mentioned anywhere on our paperwork, and of course they tried to charge us extra. Lack of clarity and helpful customer service. Go somewhere else honestly. The interior was dirty grimey and I had to give it a thorough cleaning with disinfectant wipes. There was crumbs and other debris in the driver's and passengers nest as well. They charge you an extra day if you are just a few minutes late. And they dont tell you about that they just automatically take it. That's theft.. You sir are not entitled to my hard earned money just because you can take it. I will never rent from Avis again. Renter beware. This is a shady practice. read more

I started off with high hopes: my car was getting fixed across the street at Carmax. Avis was recommended to me from the mechanic, so I figured I'd be golden. I walked over to Avis, and was greeted by a very personable worker. He set me up with a push start Nissan Altima. He walked me through how to start up a keyless car, asked me if I had questions, then sent me around back to pick the car up. As I was walking out the door, he called after me that the car may be a little dirty. What's a little dirt? Maybe the exterior, maybe the interior - dirty floor mat perhaps? Oh no, this car not only smelled like it inhaled three packs a day, but it also had burn holes in the upholstery and sticky cup holders. I'm not afraid of a little dirt, but I felt like the shower wasn't hot enough every time I scrubbed down after driving this car. Sure, I should have complained immediately, but since this was my "loaner," I figured I'd get what I could. Good-bye pretty BMW. Good-bye every other car that could have left me not feel victimized. Avis is the rental place Carmax in Clairemont uses for their extended care plan if your car needs work and they need to hang onto it for a few days. They gave me a seemingly brand new Mustang which was fun to drive for a bit. Twice, while operating the car (once in the middle of LA traffic), a message popped up on screen prompting to me to "Check the manual" for troubleshooting. At that point the car started to lose power and I could no longer accelerate. Both times I pulled over to the side, shut off the engine, and then started again. Worked fine after that. Won't be coming back again to this location for sure. read more

I was there a few weeks ago at 3pm on a Friday and this location was not open even though it states online that their hours are until6pm. Also tried calling the location and the number just rang for forever. No message saying "sorry not open today" no sign out front, nothing. And the 1-800 number is a phone tree where you can never get anywhere. Waste of my time:( read more

I'm sure it's not fair to this location because I'm pretty certain the people at fault are the ones in SAN Francisco who couldn't provide a replacement vehicle because they didn't have one in the 'same class' which is a mid-sized car. That being said, it still falls on Avis. And Avis has wife driving back from San Francisco to San Diego with cardboard covering the window thieves broke out last night (the joke is on them, there was nothing visible and the only thing they found hidden was my wife's driving glasses which they took). My Jetta is being repaired at the nearby Carmax, under your "Maxcare" they do business w/ Avis, this one to be specific. So in the event that you are stranded away from the Carmax dealership. Avis will not come and get you w/ their shuttle service to pick up the car you have a reservation for, as they will only travel a 5 mile radius. Avis will make no attempt to go above and beyond for customers. If you can find a better rental service, use it. MaxCare, Carmax, and Avis are a joke. read more

I am glad I didn't write this yesterday because my review would have been significantly longer! I will just say this, there is a particular employee there that might want to consider getting a new job since he clearly doesn't like what he does. I was overcharged for my car (even though I downgraded sizes), until I insisted none of the marks on the car that were there prior to me were listed (again until I insisted) and the gas became a ridiculous debate. I am not even sure the manager there during the week likes his job either because although he attempted to be helpful, he ended up being as worthless as his employee. The ONLY saving grace was when I called over the phone to the main office and they corrected my billing amount. I will NEVER go to this Avis again. read more

Bad service. We made an appointment to test drive a vehicle they had for purchase. When we got there, the man at the front desk was rude, seemed annoyed that we were there, was very unfriendly and was actually pretty much dismissing us to deal with other customers. When we got to the car it had multiple scratches, and smelled like cigarette smoke. We were told we could not leave the car we drove to the test drive in the Avis lot while we test drove for 15 minutes. We walked away from the car without test driving it at all because of the people at the front desk and because of the inconvenience of having to park on the street. Does it make sense to treat people who are trying to give you their money like that? This place is the worst, and there are so many nice dealerships in the area, don't bother. read more

I rent cars for long road trips reserved through Costco and this is the closest car rental to my place (~2.5 miles so if I wanted to I could run to pick up a car). I've never had any issues. I always pick up a car first thing in the morning and return 4 to 5 days later. I've always gone for the cheapest car on Costco's website. They've never hassled me about getting extra insurance or anything like that. I've rented 4 times from this place. Recently I had a standard car reserved (it was cheaper than economy, compact or intermediate). I made small talk with Jorge I think that was his name (I've dealt with him in the past) and I told him I was going to Yosemite National Park. He hooked me up with a Ford Escape SUV. Not just the base Escape either, this was the Titanium level so it was nicely equipped! That nice unexpected surprise was what made me write this review. read more

THIEVES! They ripped me off by adding 82 miles to my bill the next day after I signed for 60 miles which was accurate. They charged my credit card without authorization. I filed a complaint, missed a deadline and now I'm forced to pay or file a suit. read more

This place is unprofessional. The employee there was clearly not interested. Kept texting on his phone while we were asking questions. Over priced on everything. Had to deposit 275 bucks for a 10ft truck for 2 days (we returned it a day early) and charged 29 bucks a day, a buck for each mile, a dolly for 24 bucks a day and taxes. So one day it cost (with taxes he said) 200 bucks. We traveled just 28 miles. Don't bother with this place at all. Since we were in a hurry we paid, but won't be bothering with this place again. read more

I rented from Avis bc it's next to my house. They were nice and accommodating. They also don't put a hold on your credit card, you only pay for the car which is awesome. Super friendly and straight to the point. I didn't need to sign a bunch of forms or they didn't try to upsell me. It was nice going in and out. Will rent from here from now on!
