I had a positive experience with this rental place. Yes, it's true that it is an offsite rental and you need to take 2 buses to get there, but in reality, it's literally right down the street from the airport and they are pretty good about the shuttle. BTW, it's pretty common for an offsite rental place, like in Las Vegas of Philly. Patrick was friendly and helpful. The office was nice, clean, played good music. All the fees that people make complains about are listed on 2 big screens that are displayed while you are staying at the counter. I don't understand why people think it's excessive to be charged a fee if you return your car full of sand and mud from the beach... They were pretty nice and fast, I was 2nd in line. I generally have no issues with NU rentals and was charged what I paid, no extra hidden fees or anything (just a hold on my CC for accidental but it was removed once I returned my car with no problems) , granted I really didn't leave the state and drove maybe 100 miles total or so. The only recommendation would be to have a full tank of gas at pickup for next time (yes, I would use them again). Great job, guys! read more

Was picked up from the rental car area(you have to take the bus from the airport to the car rental area which is off site and then nu car rental picks you up in a van). Only negative I can say is checking in for the car can take some time as they have only one person doing it. Car I had was nice and dropping off the car was quick(dropped car off in the back and that was that). The van then dropped me off back at the car rental area and took the bus back to the airport. I was very skeptical due to the reviews but I'd say record a video of the car and gas level when you pick up and drop off and you should have all your bases covered. The arrangement was to fill up the gas tank when we returned it. We filled it up. We have a receipt. And topped it off. The attendant/employee said were were 2 gallons short. We also have not only the receipt but also took a picture of the fuel marker dashboard showing it is full. Wish there was negative stars to be able to attribute. Jose, combative with me also. I would give zero if I could. Sketchy company. I was forced to pay extra money for insurance. The employee (Fred) told me it was mandatory. He wouldn't even look at my insurance card. I've never had to do that before. When I returned the car I heard another employee ask another customer about the insurance, the person declined and they moved on. I emailed the company and after receiving the insurance info they refunded me the amount for the unnecessary insurance but then charged me $500 for "damage to the rental vehicle". They didn't specify what was damaged. I also returned the car April 12! In the same condition I received the car in. I'm still trying to sort things out with the rental company. It was a take it or leave it situation that felt I was backed into a corner left with no choice. They are in a rush to finish the transaction and did not send the receipt. I booked a car with New Car Rental well in advance for my December 11-15 birthday weekend trip from Sacramento to San Diego. I specifically chose a small economy car (two-door, Chevy Spark-type) because parking in San Diego is extremely difficult and expensive. I packed very light on purpose so I could manage with a smaller vehicle. At the counter, I confirmed with the employee that I would be receiving the small car I reserved. He said yes, and I even signed on the pad explicitly rejecting any upgrade. When I went out to the lot, the car provided was a larger Nissan midsize sedan. I pointed this out, but my concern was ignored. At that point, I assumed there must be a reason and reluctantly took the car. That same night, parking became exactly the issue I was trying to avoid. Multiple times, we found street parking spots where we were only a few inches too long to fit. A car just a few inches shorter would have fit perfectly and allowed us to park for free. Instead, we repeatedly had to pass up those spots and ultimately pay for parking. As anyone who has been to San Diego knows, parking is not cheap, and this added unnecessary cost throughout the trip. On top of that, the vehicle itself had multiple issues. When we rolled the windows down to wipe off condensation, they would not roll back up. It was freezing cold and foggy, and we were parked by the ocean at night. We had to sit there repeatedly turning the car on and off trying to get the windows to close, which was both uncomfortable and concerning. Additionally, I plugged in my USB cable for Apple CarPlay, which had been working perfectly with my phone, and suddenly the screen went black and stopped working entirely. I tried calling the rental office that night and again the next day. No one answered. When I finally reached someone, I was told they did not have small cars available. That explanation is unacceptable. The entire purpose of reserving a car online with specific pickup and drop-off times is so inventory can be managed properly. If a vehicle class is unavailable, it should not be offered for online reservation, especially when payment is taken in advance. I paid online, not in person. When a customer prepays and explicitly declines an upgrade, they should receive the car they reserved, not be forced into a larger vehicle with functional issues that creates additional cost and inconvenience. I requested a manager callback multiple times. My information was taken, and I was assured someone would contact me. No manager ever called. When I returned the car, I raised all of these issues again, including the window malfunction, CarPlay failure, and parking problems. I was told a manager was not available, but an employee named Leo took my phone number and promised a manager would call me. That also never happened. Between the lack of inventory management, the poor condition of the vehicle, unanswered calls, and complete lack of follow-up, this was a very disappointing experience. I would not recommend this rental company. You may end up paying more in parking fees, inconvenience, and frustration than the rental is worth. You have to take a shuttle to the main rental companies then wait for a guy from their company to come and pick you up to their location. There are a lot of people wait and their shuttle is just a minivan that have 5 seats so you have to wait for at least 30 min to 1 hour for their driver to go back and forth dropping 5 peoples at a time. Then when you get to their rental place. They don't have your car ready and you have to wait for 2 hours or more to get the car. This is a small mom and pop rental place with a small inventory of car. So if you what to waste 3 hours or more of your time to wait for the rental car for the saving of $70. read more

I originally asked for a Sprinter, and while they didn't have one available, they quickly accommodated me with a vehicle that had the same seating capacity. Very seedy place. AVOID AT ALL COSTS! I had a reservation for a car rental and was charged an extra $112. Rented online. Apparently, local renters are not allowed to take cars out of state and/or have a limit of 50 miles per day. Huh? First time I've heard of that garbage. The worker then told me (verbally, I should have known better), that we was going to waive any extra fees for an additional $20 and would honor my original rate, which I agreed to. I fought the charge with my bank and was not accepted so no problem, here's a review for them as my "compensation". I then went back to personally address this situation. The gentleman in the front (do not recall name) was very helpful. NOW, on the day of return another guy was helping me check out. My flight was at 2PM I showed up to drop the car off before 11am. The guy who inspected the car said that due to the sand in the vehicle they would have to charge me more. I said for this amount of sand? He said yes taking sand out of a car is very difficult. He said you can take it to the gas station down the road. Both gas stations down the road vaccums did not work. I needed to find a car wash place that had a vacuum. To my luck after 40 min I found one and I spent 2 MINUTES to clean out the sand that the guy said was super hard. Super inconvenient and now made time super tight. I don't think I've ever given a one star review, but here we are! Believe all of the other one star reviews. This place is a mess. When you get to the rental car center, cross the street where the shuttles to and from the airport drive, to the taxi pickup area. The instructions tell you to text some number, but that did not work for me. Call them, talk to a human being, and ask them to send a driver. Despite doing this, I had to call twice and get two promises of "he'll be there in 8-10 minutes" before someone showed up. He showed up in an unmarked minivan which didn't fit all of us who needed a ride, so I went first. More waiting for the rest of my family. We got to the little building off-site, and there was only one guy checking people in and four of us waiting. Everyone was miserable. When it was my turn, I had the same experience as so many others. They didn't have any more of the car size I had rented, so I too got the "you can get a larger car for $35 more a day" spiel. So ridiculous. At that point, what can you do but say yes?? This doubled my car rental price. Lesson learned. To their credit, the return process went more smoothly. They gave us plenty of space to unload everything and clean out the car. However, the car they used to transport us back to the rental car center didn't fit all of us, and my husband ended up walking because we didn't want to deal with them any more. read more

THEEE WORST rental car experience I've had by far! From the airport, you take the normal shuttle to the rental car area, and then you have to take an additional ride share to get to the actual NuCar facility. I immediately got weird vibes from the guy working at the counter. Even though I'd declined online, he still asked me about which of their coverage I'd be using. I said I'm skipping, he asked to see my own car insurance, and after crafting his plan, he says well this is decent coverage, but you'll still need to get such and such from us to fully cover you. I declined AGAIN, and he still pushed. He said, well the car you booked is REALLY small, so if you wrecked it'd be totaled. Also that I wrecked I'd be paying my deductible vs their *cheaper* one. I'm thinking, then don't rent that size if it's such a risk?! I said I'm sticking with not getting your coverage. He then proceeds to say I can upgrade to a bigger car for only $10 more per day (wow)!! No thanks I'm sticking with the smaller car, and he made it seem like it was so weird I kept declining. Sir you're a rental car company employee, not a car salesman. After waiting a while, the car comes out, and I laugh because it's not the size I booked. It's a bigger car that he'd been trying to upsell me on. Anyways, car drove ok and did not like going over 65mph, made some weird noises during slowing down, but got me from point a to point b fine. But they charge for dropping the car off before they open (LOL), because you have to park the car at the airport shuttle lot (that has nothing to do with me but ok). Honestly, if I could give this place negative stars I totally would!! we rented through them on Expedia thinking it was just going to be a easy car pick up situation. BOY WAS I WRONG. We arrived at the airport at 7 AM. Got to the car rental place at 7:30 after taking the shuttle. That's when I realized that the place didn't open till 8 AM. I called their customer service line multiple times with zero answer all you get are these kind of passive aggressive text messages from them stating that they don't open till eight and then a shuttle may take 15 to 20 minutes. It was not 20 minutes. We didn't get picked up till almost 845 even though the car rental place is less than five minutes away. Not only that we get there to the offsite location at 9 o'clock only to find out that the employees are just showing up at nine. The place is still completely locked up. They mislead their customers and then not only that we got a compact car or a Hyundai four-door. And then they tried to tell me that they were gonna put me in a two door. Tuna can Car because of the small print they were allowed to do that. I told him that we rented a Compact car to which he said a Nissan Kicks is a full size and I had to pay $60 more because the kicks wasn't considered a compact. I was already frustrated and then they tried to upsell me on an upgrade. They also tried to upsell me on so many other items and asked me multiple times about the car insurance coverage which I denied multiple times. We didn't end up leaving the rental car place with a decent car until about 9:45 AM. The car was not washed. It was completely covered in bugs because I refuse to wait for another 1520 minutes for them to wash the car that they made me pay for an upgrade for. I will never ever ever rent from this place ever again. Nor do I suggest that anybody rents from here. They are completely understaffed and they do not communicate well. The worst part is on the return of the car, we had to wait at least another 10 to 15 minutes for the rental car to come pick us up then we get there catch the rental thing and we actually missed our boarding time cut off. Shuttle service from the airport rental car terminal is a black minivan with a crazy driver. The seats are falling apart and gross. No markings on the pick up shuttle. When we arrived to the rental car company, we waited 2 hours with a bunch of other people. They take like 25 minutes to check in each person. They were a good deal but not worth it at all. They want you to use your personal car insurance. Since our deductible was $1,000 we had to give them a $1,000 deposit in case we get into an accident. If not they want to charge us another $105 to use their insurance. Our rental was only $98, we would have just gone to the airport rental car terminal. They have their own insurance & get you in an out under 20 minutes. Be careful read more

DO NOT RENT FROM HERE! I booked a car through Hotwire and paid hotwire directly. But at the Nu car rental counter at the Phoenix Airport, i was hit with all these additional (daily) charges. I was expecting to pay for pre paid fuel and such but not around $50 extra per day. My hotwire total was $400.65 and the separate charge Nu charge on my credit card was &454.58. Its like they trick you with low deals on Hotwire and then when youve arrived, hit you with all these charges that you cannot opt out of. read more

This whole process took approximately 30 minutes from the time I walked out of the airport. When I got the standard SUV, I assumed it had working seatbelts for all the passengers. I have rented rental cars from many different agencies in many different cities. DO NOT RENT FROM NU! As soon as I booked (prepaid) with them and read the email with the unusual terms and conditions, I knew there would be problems. I didn't have too many issues being picked up, but it is very shady. You take the airport shuttle to the rental car center then text them for a pickup from the rental car center. I waited about 15 minutes and was picked up in an unmarked vehicle with about 10 people all of who ended up in front of me at their location. The driver was pleasant, but the only way I knew it was him was that he announced he was from Nu shortly before leaving which caught a couple of us. It seems like a gimmick to avoid any fees they would be required to pay for use of the rental car center. When we arrived, there ended up being five parties in front of me. It took 15 minutes to finish with the first person who was there when we arrived. The person at the desk was the only employee handling reservations and that included processing rental car returns, new rentals, and conducting the walk-through inspection with the driver before leaving. I realized it was going to be another hour (at least) just to get my car. I used my phone to check another agency and found they had cars available within 15 minutes. I rented one and then grabbed an Uber back to the Rental Car Center. I ended up losing my pre-paid deposit at Nu and then spending more than I would have liked to with a last-minute rental somewhere else.
