We were there on Saturday, November 8 at 11:30 and the gentleman who helped us was very friendly and gave excellent directions to be able to find our car. He explained everything through the contract and answered all of our questions. The Avis desk at the hotel is to the left of the main lobby if you're entering from the street. This location is a hotel-based Avis branch with limited hours. I arrived 10 minutes before my reservation time; nobody was there and I had to wait. (But to be fair, it was one guy and he has to have lunch too.) The pick-up process is fairly smooth, with the cars located on the top floor of the nearby parking garage. The guy told me to take a picture of instructions on his phone, and it was all pretty accurate and easy. Drop off was similarly easy and convenient, even after hours. No in and out privileges, so you'll have to pay for parking separately. Reserved a Full Size car and got a Nissan Altima, which we were able to fit two adults, three kids, and five med/small suitcases. Car itself was in good condition but a little dirty inside and out. It was fine for what we needed. (But if the car was clean, this would be a 5/5 star review.) We were looking for a short term rental for our Waikiki stay, and this worked out perfectly. Car are not new or best form but take pictures all angles and details and odometer. Return instructions for location is not that intuitive. Return: From level 5, take elevator to level 3, walk across and out side to restaurant round, turn right and see the sight for security, turn right and left toward the end, take elevator up 4th level. I reserved my vehicle using the online Avis website. I selected a Jeep for one day use and that process went well. The AVIS staff Kobi at the counter confirmed my reservation. He was kind and a fast talker so make sure you're listening. The low Yelp review is for the condition of the Jeep. I'm okay with a little bit of sand particles throughout the Jeep, but you can tell the Jeep was not throughly cleaned inside/outside prior to my pickup. I could barely see through the side mirrors due to them being dirty. The valet person at the hotel I'm staying at was kind enough to wipe down all the windows of the Jeep for me so I can have clearer view while driving. I used wipes and Lysol spray to sanitize the inside of the Jeep. There was trash left inside the middle console & water bottle and comb under the back seat. Also when you're checking in to receive your vehicle you're given the vehicle key and paperwork. There's no AVIS staff going over the vehicle with you and checking for any damage. So I suggest taking pictures and videos of your rental vehicle to cover yourself. read more

Avoid the Avis Rent-A-Car business at the Sheraton hotel in Waikiki like the plague. They brought us all the way to them to pick up a vehicle with a written confirmation and when we got there said sorry we don't have it but we have other more expensive lesser value vehicles. I guess they think most people don't have the time or energy and just take whatever they can get. the guy working the counter didn't seem like he could care less. Avis is a terrible business that should be shut down for disappointing people on holiday with fake confirmations and schemes. read more

We booked a car and a car seat at this location, we specifically chose car seat type (for 1-3 years old and 20-40 lbs). However, when we went pick it up, they didn't have the right type of car seat (yet they told us to find the car seat in some strange place, where they had a broken booster and a portable one which is way too small than what we booked). When we went back to their service stand, they were like 'you can cancel the reservation'. So our day trip plan was ruined. Next day we rented from another place called voyage, they got the right car seat and were much more helpful. What could improve: simply make sure you got what you promised to provide, or be honest to your customers, tell them you don't have the right equipment when they've making the reservation. read more

The service was very fast , almost too fast. The guy behind the desk was talking so fast, he rushed through all if the paperwork and asked for signatures before we could even glance at what we were signing or would be driving. Considering we were in vacay, and in Hawaii we were pretty laid back. The car was fine , we were just surprised with the bill when we returned the car. Nearly $100 is additional fees for just one day, including every supplemental add on . The gas tank was full and the car was in perfect condition when we returned it. Great customer service. Dennis, one of the staff is full of enthusiasm. Even at 7am, He's just so hyper, very fun to talk to and also provides some insights where to go in the Island even though he already knows we live here. Such a fun and energetic guy. We had rented cars from them for 4 times now and so far we did not experience any issues with those. Usually we rent compact cars because of its fuel efficiency and it's cheaper to rent. Their location is inside Sheraton Waikiki. It's near the infinity pool, before reaching RumFire Waikiki. The cars are located in the roof top of Sheraton Waikiki. Staff will provide a parking pass that you need to give to the parking lady before going out. Also, we usually fill up the tank before returning the car because its much cheaper that way instead of them charging you for the fuel. They will also ask for the mileage of the car once you return the it and most of the times we forget to take note of that but Dennis/Staff is fine with it. Today, Aug 5th, I needed to swap out the car I was given at the airport due to safety and technical issues. I called customer service last night and they told me to just show up and ask at the nearest Avis location. The team here on the third floor is severely short staffed. But they listened to the issues we were having with the car (warning lights for fuel cap, breaks grinding, very dirty interior, and exterior damage). They promptly found a comparable sized car and got it swapped out in no time. These folks deserve a raise for the amount of churn they go through everyday and still handle everything with a smile. read more

Overall, our experience was positive. We snagged a great price on a Jeep with an open top, and we loved the convenience of being able to walk to and from the rental location from our Waikiki Beach hotel. We are used to booking rental cars where you can pick up your vehicle anytime after your booking pick-up time (during business hours) and drop off your vehicle anytime before your booking drop-off time (during business hours). We had a pick-up time of 8am and showed up midday, and the agent was at lunch, came back an hour later, and then said he had a right to cancel our booking because we were no-shows at 8am. Take your booking times very literally if you book here! Also, our car didn't have any sort of Apple CarPlay or Android Auto, or even a USB port to charge our phones, so plan on packing an external battery so you can use your phone's GPS! read more

Background: We picked up a 'full size' Ford Fusion at Honolulu for 4 adults, one large luggage, and four carry-ons. The car has a much smaller trunk due to it being a hybrid; we were told we'd have to wait an hour to get another car despite there being other cars on lot. That said, we had to stuff everything into a tiny trunk; two pieces of luggage had to go inside the cabin, making it extra tight for two large teenagers. The car was old, with ~35000 miles and the tires were worn. With the worn tires, we drove to Pearl Harbor and on the way back got a tire pressure monitor alert as the right front tire slowly went flat. Luckily we were able to get back to the Royal Hawaiian Parking lot where I as able to reach Dennis Isolde at the Waikiki Sheraton by phone. As anyone booking a rental car recently can attest, there are not generally a lot of vehicles available. Plus taking time to exchange a vehicle mid-vacation is not the ideal situation when you just want to have fun. Dennis kindly offered me the option of a vehicle with even less trunk space (a Jeep soft top) as we were in a pickle with dinner reservations and plans on the east side of the island the next day. Dennis then called me back 10 minutes later to state he had a nice new car (Nissan Altima) which really help to make the rest of the trip enjoyable with a normal size trunk, apple car play, etc. THANK YOU Dennis for not just trying to provide excellent customer service, but also executing! The rental agent Thomas was so patient with everyone and very fast and efficient. I've rented many cars and he's got it down. Not trying to sell you anything you don't need either. He deserves a raise. The car we had was great very new great condition Mazda. They keep the cars on the seventh floor parking garage at the Sheraton so since I stayed here it was super convenient. First the good stuff. The sales rep was nice and polite. My car was available at 7am. Now the not so nice stuff. While in the mainland, I called the Sheraton Waikiki Avis' desk and talked with a rep and asked how to get the best cost for a 4 door vehicle that was a small or medium size as well as the cost for an additional driver. He said the cost would be $99 for the car (Buick Verano) and use AARP membership as that will zero out the additional driver fee of $13. Two days prior to our trip, I called to verify our confirmation and the AARP discount. Both were confirmed. After a day of driving to the North Shore, when we returned the car, I was surprised to see a fee of $13.00 for Optional Products (Driver). I asked about it, and the customer rep said that the discount comes only if I book using Costco.com. Had I known, I would have booked on Costco.com as I have a Costco membership or I might have chosen not to have an additional driver on the agreement. I had it just as a precaution. The other person never drove the vehicle. It sure would have been nice when I checked-in to rent the vehicle and I asked to put an additional driver on the car, that the customer rep verify the fee with me. Instead, I found out he assumed that I booked online using Costco.com I'm not happy. Why should I have had to pay the additional fee? read more

Horrible! After a 7 hour flight had to wait an hour for them to clean a car for us. I asked if there's any other cars we could take and the dude said they have plenty of cars one grade higher than what we reserved, but we'd have to pay the $60 difference. We rented a car and made a separate reservation and it ended up being given away EVEN THOUGH WE RESERVED AND PAID FOR IT! So they had to get a car at another location! WOW (what is the point of a paid reservation then?) When talking to the young lady about the issues, she was rude and said we had no choice but to go to the other location. Fine, we did. So ending up at the other Avis location we then had to pay extra to upgrade LOL. No good customer service (hawaii is always friendly), no complimentary services for messing up our order, no nothing. We were very nice, we took what we can and we even paid extra!!! There was a mature blonde lady that treated us well and was nice. Then we get into the vehicle and it's half tank... They ended up having to forfeit the gas cost because of that (finally!). We just wanted to rent a car and have a good experience, we didnt get it at this Avis.... read more
