Avo was such a great choice for a casual dinner! It's August and the weather was beautiful, so we requested the patio, but the hostess said it wasn't open, which was a little odd but no big deal. Our waitress was super attentive and friendly. The food was fantastic and came out quickly, too. The tacos with chipotle garlic aioli were delicious, and they're sold individually so you can mix and match from a wide variety of meats. The Brussels sprouts were to die for! They were cooked perfectly with a balsamic glaze and bacon bits. It's been a while since I had dined here, and I'm so glad I came back. It was exactly as I remembered and just as delicious. I met a friend at Avo Modern Mexican in Ohio City for a girls' night dinner, and overall it was a good experience. I started with the Blackberry Hibiscus Margarita, which was light, refreshing, and a great way to kick off the evening. We shared the Avo Trio with guacamole, queso, and salsa. The salsa wasn't my favorite, but the guacamole was honestly some of the best I've ever had, and the queso was excellent. At $20, it felt a little pricey, but the portion was generous enough for sharing. For my entrée, I ordered the Pollo Ala Crema, thin slices of sautéed chicken breast with cream sauce, Spanish rice, grilled corn, Brussels sprouts, a crispy corn cake, aji verde, and crumbled bacon. It was a unique combination of flavors that worked really well together, and I enjoyed the dish overall. Parking is available on the street, or after 6 p.m. you can park in the lot adjacent to the restaurant and pay through the mobile app, which was convenient. Overall, I had a good meal and enjoyed the atmosphere. While everything was solid, I'm not sure I'd make a special trip back with so many great Mexican restaurants in the area that I still want to try. read more

Love this place. Whenever we are on the west side, we jump in for a quick beer, chips, and guacamole. The place is great to watch sports because of the size of their TVs. My husband and I stopped here during the week for lunch after some appointments. The vibe in the restaurant is so fun definitely a modern Mexican vibe. Our server was very friendly and answered all the questions we had about the menu and food! We ordered a variety of different tacos (Bbq Pork, Mahi Mahi, and Barbaco Birria) and some fried plantain (Maduros). My family and I visited Avo for an early lunch on Wednesday, and we had such a great experience at this lovely eatery. The table that we were seated at was family style which accommodated our larger group. Everyone at the table tried different things, so I got the chance to taste test and everything was appetizing, including my own food! I ordered the birria style taco and the lobster taco. The lobster taco was definitely a standout for me! The grilled corn paired with the lobster alone had me sold. We went here for dinner on a Saturday & we fell in love! The food was incredible. Appetizers were show stopping. Special shout out to the queso with chorizo. It was a Saturday night downtown, so I always expect that anywhere we go service won't be super quick. However, they brought everything out quickly and service was stellar. We always order lunch at work from here and the food is always good, so I decided to stop in after work for a drink. Big mistake, I don't remember the name of the bartender, but bartending is not her calling. I ordered a pina colada, and she didn't know how to make one, so she suggested a mojito, so I ordered one. It was by far the WORST thing that I have tasted. I don't what that was that she served me, but it was definitely not a mojito. My advice for the restaurant, food was excellent but hire a new bartender. read more

It's the old Bakersfield just even more expensive than it was before. The food was good as I said. But having no lunch specials or not offering them if there were was astonishingly crazy to us. Also $12 for chips and a regular salsa and the mango salsa...come on. Offer a deal for two salsas for $8 or $9. It's bad enough you charge for the salsa and chips in the first place. We got two tacos each at like $5 per taco. They came out just laying on stainless steal trays. Weird. The birria style taco or whatever it was pretty good but only made better with adding the mango salsa. It was too savory. Nice atmosphere and good food. The insane prices and lack of a lunch special will keep me away forever unfortunately. $52 for two small tacos per person, a stainless tray of chips and two small cups of salsa and two colas and a tip. Insane! And we got cheap stuff. There were dishes way more expensive too. This isn't New York City! It's Cleveland. You got our $52 for a lunch but none of our future business unfortunately. I've been once before but forgot how good it was. So glad we popped in. The fundido with corn and jalapeño was amazing - highly recommend getting it to start, generous portion too! Guacamole was also fabulous. My tacos were equally delicious, so glad I tried one of the specials (Nashville hot chicken) it was super flavorful! I'm not sure how I haven't written a review for Avo yet because I frickin' love this place. Located on West 25th in Ohio City, it can be tricky to find good parking, but it's never been a problem for me. The restaurant is very pretty and very clean. I've been in here at least 5 times now, some for lunch and some for dinner and have been very, very happy all times. Their food is top notch, great quality. The flavors are rich, the textures are great, and everything is razzed up with things like radish slices, fresh cilantro, and lime wedges. The food is very colorful and fresh. Some of my favorite things that I've had on the menu are Shrimp, Corn, and Pepper Guacamole, Yum Yum Shrimp Tacos, and Enchiladas. I can't remember what cocktails I had, but I remember loving them. The chips are fresh, crispy, and seasoned perfected. Loved both the gauc and salsa. For dinner we all tried the birria pizza ($4 off during Sunday happy hour), the avo Sonoran dog, the Colorado bowl, the crispy brussels taco, and a carnitas taco. Absolutely everything was fresh and well made! We especially loved the birria pizza (basically just a giant quesadilla sliced like a pizza). It was UNREAL and the consumme was so so so flavorful. While the server was extremely nice, it was so hard to flag them down. We had been waiting to order for a while and we could see the waiter chatting by the bar, but we had the hardest time trying to catch his eye. We even tried to put our menus to the side to indicate that we were done looking but we still had to wait a hot minute. The chips and salsa were good. We got the pineapple salsa, thinking it would be sweeter. But it was actually took more of the sourness of pineapple so it wasn't my favorite. The arepas were beautiful and very tasty with all of the different toppings. But the arepas themselves were so greasy that I couldn't eat too much of it. Today, I went for dinner and the marg was an inch below the rim line. The sugar rim was also sloppy and sliding down the sides of the glass. Very disappointed given the $14 cost! I stopped by for a late lunch, I was the only patron in the restaurant. However, happy hour starts in 10 minutes. I ordered 2 tacos. The first was the YumYum Shrimp Taco: 2 crispy fried shrimp, spicy yumyum sauce, slaw, sesame seeds, green onions and 2 radish slices. Although, I despise spicy hot food, I devoured this taco with a side of sour cream to dunk my taco. I melted in my seat. The second was the Carnitas on a flour tortilla, topped with a chipotle garlic aioli, cilantro, queso fresco, romaine lettuce, diced tomatoes, which I dunked into the sour cream, as well. My dance to the flavors that ran across my palette. I enjoyed it so much, that I will try it again today. This beautiful gem is gorgeous to dine in. The earthy tones and texture are warm and pleasant. I can't wait to bring my family and friends. Did I mention there's a patio! We decided to order two different dishes and then share each...I got the Colorado burrito and he got the birria barbacoa tacos. The food arrived promptly and the server brought us out an extra dish of consommé for taco dipping. The birria barbacoa tacos were spicy and delicious served in grilled corn tortillas along with a thick consommé we used for dipping and dipping and dipping. The Colorado burrito was a ginormous flour tortilla filled with sliced flank steak, Spanish rice and a fundido that was hearty, cheesy and filling. I would (and will) 100% return and will certainly be ordering both these dishes again! read more

High recommend Avo Mexican! We had a reservation for 2 at 6:30 on a Saturday night. We got there a few minutes early and we're seated immediately. We ordered the casa guac and margaritas to start. I had the berry margarita, which I really enjoyed - it may have been to sweet for some but I personally really like sweet drinks. The guac was also good - a nice serving size to split among two - we didn't even finish it all! It came with chips which were warm. There weren't enough chips for the guac, but we asked our waitress for more and she brought them quickly. It took a bit of time for the waitress to come back and take our order, but that was fine because we were enjoying the guac and the food came out within five minutes of us placing our order! I had the OC bowl, which was topped with fresh avocado and was delicious! I had enough to take leftovers home. The also do have an attached parking lot. We didn't park there, but it looks like you have to access this parking lot from around the back of the building and drive through another parking lot to get to it! read more

Really nice trendy atmosphere. Good location right by the west side market. Burrito options, some taco options, Mexican pizza, and tortas to name a few. We got the plantain appetizer which was good and a surprisingly pretty big portion. Not just like 3. Good for sharing. We also got the salsa trio, corn, pineapple and mango habanero. Large portion of warm chips with this but the salsa left much to be desired Like you keep eating them hoping that the next bite might get better but never does. We would try to guac next time instead. My friend got the chalupa that came out as 3 and not just 1 with was a pleasant surprise. This is made with barbacoa and can't be substituted for another meat as it's pre-made in the morning from what we were told. My friend didn't really care for it much and when I tasted it I was happy I went with the Colorado burrito instead. The Colorado Burrito was huge came with a white cheese on it and a red sauce. Steak and rice inside. I brought most of it home. It wasnt bad just needed a little something extra. My husband ate it as leftovers and he said he liked it. Nice atmosphere.
