Avondale! What a beautiful location to sit and enjoy a beautiful sunny day, breezy night, or even a rainy one! I love the vibe here- trendy, relaxed, and like home. There is indoor and outdoor seating here although I will say the inside is a little on the small side (but I never mind the coziness with a Miss Fancy in hand). The outdoor area is very large with plenty of picnic tables and an outside bar so that you do not have to go inside at all! You can actually go around to the side of the building during the day and go in straight to the back outdoor area instead of walking in through the inside which is nice if you are bringing a pup or 2 (yes! pet friendly!)! There is a big stage outdoors where they play live music which is so nice to enjoy as well if you can catch them. This venue does not serve food BUT they allow you to bring in outside food to enjoy with your beer! Last week we grabbed a pizza from post office pies and walked right over to the outdoor picnic set up at Avondale. Loved the vibe. This place is great for locals and for bringing people from out of town, it is family friendly, and can also be a casual date spot! Of course the beers are awesome as well :) Will be back! read more

What a nice venue! It was very clean, love the outdoor area. We hit this place on a very slow day I believe as we heard lots of activities that happen there. We sat outside ( no shade) and watched part of a football game on the big screen which was very cool. The problem we encountered was the staff, they were nice, but not welcoming. This place is as cool as it gets. From the delicious beers, to the bands they bring in, to the food and crawfish trucks that just roll in the back, you never know what surprise awaits you when you arrive. And with all the events they host there, it's no wonder their popularity grows by the day. I first heard about it last year when they hosted an after party for Hand in Paw's Mutt Strut and have gone back every chance I get since. They don't serve food directly from the brewery, so you can bring your dog right inside. And good food is never far away with Saw's BBQ right next door, whatever food truck may be outside, and Dominoes's a delivery away. And if you don't know which of their beers to order to accompany your meal, they are more than happy to suggest one or give you a sample. And, to save the best for last, their outdoor area is amazing! The bar is large with a couple of tv's. There are tables out year-round and actual couches and plush chairs out on warm, dry days, giving it an eclectic feel. Be sure to bring your four legged friend because they're SUPER dog friendly, which I love. Play cornhole or darts in the sun while enjoying your cold libations. I love visiting local breweries, trying new beers and relaxing on a patio with live music, on a warm day! Avondale is the place to do just that! The beer selection is very good overall! I'm an IPA drinker but the beers range from heavy stouts to Seasonal Wheats. By far my favorite is Street Car Kolsch! Very clean, crisp, no after taste, smooth and very refreshing! This beer speaks for itself! Avondale is small on the inside with an L-Shape bar however, the outside has a bar with TV'S, large patio space, and a stage for live music! Lots of room to entertain a group or just a few people. The venue doesn't serve food but you can go next door to Postal Pies or any other place, and being the food back into the brewery. The back door of Postal Pies leads into the back court of Avondale. My group ordered a pizza, went out back and enjoyed the weather. The bartenders are all friendly! I was visiting family down in Alabama recently and my cousin took us to a local taco joint in Birmingham for dinner. After trying Avondale's Battlefield IPA on draft there I was happy to hear that our next stop was actually to be the Avondale Brewery itself. The building appears to be an old firehouse based on the large garage door-sized windows in the front. Inside the high ceiling and open floor plan give you the feeling that they placed a bar in the middle of a brewery and you are drinking right from the tanks. My fiancée and I opted for a beer flight upon arrival to the bar after looking at their draft selection: two IPAs, vanilla porter, nut brown, tripel, kolsch, saison, and a stout. This was not the normal selection. While sipping you can read about the unique history of the area and their mascot: Ms. Fancy the elephant. (Trunks Up!) Seemed like a trendy hangout for the younger crowd with most people milling around the outdoor area which was primarily a fenced in lot between the brewery and a storage facility in the back. The bar inside had plenty of open seating in this night and you could see the majority of their equipment and fermenter tanks behind the bar. read more

I had heard about Avondale from various people so when I ended up visiting Birmingham I made sure to stop in. The brewery makes a nice range of beers that are sure to please any palette - from lighter ales to really dark stouts. They also have some really nice sours - the plum tart was good and a non-intimidating one. What really sets this place apart is the staff - our bartender was super nice and fun to chat with. They do have an outdoor area but I didn't get to explore it during my visit. read more

Avondale is a pretty cool place. It's a great venue. They have an inside area and a huge outside are to sit in, and bars in both locations. There are lots of tables outside to sit at, as well as areas of grass to sit on and have a picnic if you'd like. They have a nice stage for bands to play on and entertain the crowd. On Sunday nights, they have a Walking Dead viewing party outside as well. Definitely give this place a try. It's a nice place to chill and hang out with friends. read more

The location is a 5*, the beer is 3.5*. I may be in the minority when I say this about the beer as many of my friends love the beer. With the exception of the Triple and Vanillaphant I could do without the rest. The extremely large lawn make it great to bring your dog but it tends to get crazy on the first day of warm weather as it seems everyone in town flocks here. Keeping your dogs on a leash seems to be difficult as many are roaming around and there usually is a dog fight or two every time I go because some people think their dog will not start anything....well they're wrong. read more

I've come here multiple times during the spring and summer months for a cold brew with friends (one of my favorite things to do when it's warm outside). This weekend was my first time coming for an event (For the People) in the upstairs event venue. I was pleasantly surprised by the space. It is a huge space with a full bar offering all the brews that Avondale is known for. Its exposed brick and wooden floors give the room so much character. The mosaic doors on the restroom were even impressive. The restrooms are also gender neutral. One of my favorite parts about coming here is the fact that you can grab food nearby from one of the various restaurants and bring it over to pair with your favorite drink- mine is Miss Fancy's. Charlie is a fantastic bartender. I walked in to meet my fiancé for drinks, he brought me a hard seltzer to try and it was light and yummy. It was a light hard seltzer with a light hop but that doesn't follow through. And I tried their sour apple sour beer, it was full of flavor and apple flavoring. read more

Despite not being much of a beer drinker, I really am fond of hanging out at Avondale with my beer drinking pals. There's just an easy relaxed vibe that runs through the whole place. The backyard is great too. And if you get a thrill out of dogwatching, there are plenty of canines roaming around, a very dog-friendly brewery. As for the actual beer, it's some of Birmingham's best, or so I've been told. The bartenders could be a hair more attentive but oh well. No food is served, but there's often a food truck in the yard, and you've got a plethora of appealing options in the neighborhood (I'm a fan of Saw's Soul Kitchen and Post Office Pies). Street parking usually isn't too hard to find. You can host a private event upstairs (which the website tells me was once a clandestine bordello!), and there are often concerts outside. Their space is large and welcoming, with indoor and outdoor seating and an outdoor music venue which hosts concerts almost every weekend. My favorite part of Avondale is the sour room, which always has a medley of sour and fruity beers on tap. While masks are required during covid, our bartender wasn't wearing one when we ordered. Great location, and they are adding bathrooms (which were sorely needed). The live music sounds great outside, loud enough but big enough space where you can talk without shouting, too. I hear the beer is great, and there is food available from the seafood trailer - yup, it's a trailer, but it's good stuff. The corn is particularly good. Obviously, a real review of the place requires a review of the beers available. Unfortunately, I can't give you one because I don't drink. You don't want to see me drink, I assure you. SO this is Birmingham?! Wow- I am REALLY digging it! Thanks Yelp! for alerting me to Avondale's existence - a bit off the beaten path I would never have found this gem on my own. So, let's talk Birmingham. It is delightfully small and I think has more genuine "cool" per square mile than many other larger cities. Avondale is a prime example! This place is chill and wonderful, totally legit (adding to my esteemed list of "Best Places to Grab a Pint"). What a great atmosphere, it is dripping in it. Super friendly service brimming with pride about every tap. Locals cycled in and out with pizza and other takeout from the neighborhood, they clearly love this place enough to make this the real destination of their evening. The brews are great. Their beer selection has grown extensively over the years and they had a wide range from stouts to IPAs. And I think they may have just added a cider to their list. I stopped by here this past Sunday afternoon with my girlfriend for some drinks after running the mercedes marathon. Not being from Birmingham I did not know what to expect but had read some great things on yelp about it. The inside of the place is pretty cool with a large bar, bar along the wall, brick walls and cement type floor. What is also cool is that they have a large "backyard" where you can also sit. Lots of tables, some around firepits, and a stage for a band. I imagine in the summer on the weekends that this place is awesome. Beer wise they have 6 seasonal a and 6 regular beers on tap. To start out with I had a double IPA while my girlfriend had the brown. My double IPA was awesome ad it started out sweet and finished with a good hoppy flavor. After finishing that i decided to try a sampler which consisted of the 6 regular beers. some i enjoyed and sone i did not with the battlefield IPA being my favorite. The bartender was both nice and efficient and did a great job for being the only. By the time that we had left shortly after 3, the place was hopping and many of the newcomers had to sit outside. The bottom line for me is that I would definitely head back here in the future. I loved the beer, the bar, the space out back and that you could bring your dogs which many people did. read more

Definitely the go-to bar for beer enthusiasts in Birmingham! Great atmosphere... Lots of room so even when crowded it never feels overly congested. They even have a *back yard* with plenty of seating, standing room and are also dog-friendly. Extensive (and growing) brew menu, and quite frankly if you call yourself a beer drinker and don't like @ least 95% of what they have to offer, you're probably drinking it wrong! This brewery is fairly young (at the time I originally wrote this as a Google review) but has a great business model and definitely knows how to promote itself. Stopped here just to see the place everyone talks about. Had a couple craft beers at the back outdoor area. I see they have a stage so I need to explore their concert schedule. The outdoor area is great for groups, dogs are welcome, the bartender knows all about the beers he serves, and most importantly plays wonderful music selections from his personal smart phone. We walked in the indoor bar area which is nice, but we prefer the outdoor vibe. We are glad we discovered Avondale and have enjoyed Saturn, Wasabi Juans, Saws Soul Kitchen and the park. read more

Nothing really jumped out at me as being different or exceptional, but we were able to get two seats at the bar on a busy Saturday (early evening) and that's worth a few stars at least. Bartenders seemed a bit crabby at first, but warmed up after a while. It made me wonder if they tend to get rude tourists or college kids who don't tip well in here a lot. Avondale Brewing is a brewery and venue space in the heart of the Avondale neighbourhood. The beers here are consistent throughout the line up. As one who appreciates different styles, I find that I am never disappointed trying something different here. Mid to late-afternoons are the best time to visit. You can usually find a seat, and service is very good. Be sure to check out their website or ask the bartender about upcoming events. They have a top-notch event space behind the brewery. Avondale itself is a work in progress. There are some good restaurants, bars, and other venues in the neighbourhood. Keep your wits about you when moving about at night. Much of the credit for the re-birth of this area can be accredited to places like Avondale Brewing who have made a substantial investment in the community. read more

Nice neighborhood brewery. I stopped by for a fund raising event on a Thursday night. Beers selection was excellent, and the beer was good. It's a bit out of my way, but given a chance I'd be back. I tried the Kolsch microbrew. While true Kolsch has to come from Cologne, Germany in the same way Champagne has to come from the champagne region of France, I thought it was passable. I don't think the Germans have to worry yet... I will have to try other offerings when I get a chance. read more

This place is pretty cool! I am not a beer drinker but my husband is so we went there for him to try local beer. It was nice to see that they had a Rose Seltzer on tap and I was able to enjoy a drink with him. They have an amazing outside with tables, food truck, bar, stage and lots of dogs! I loved that this place is dog friendly and it made it more fun to see and pet the pups! It looks like they are expanding to have more of a bigger in door area. I am big on craft beers and especially local brews, Avondale Brewery is definitely in my top 5 of Alabama local beers. Battlefield IPA 6.8% ABV has a nice hop profile, smooth floral grassy IPA Spring Street Saison 7.2% ABV is a belgain style farmhouse ale is a spring like beer with a floral, pepper taste with a crisp delicious finish. Miss Fancy's Tripel 9.2% ABV is a strong Belgain golden ale rich in flavor and alcohol. Be careful with this one, its really good but will put you down for the count. And just in general the Avondale Brewery Patio is the biggest and best in the City of Birmingham. read more

A group of us visited from out of town and enjoyed beer and fries in the outdoor area. Didn't catch his name but the guy working the food truck was super friendly - I mentioned that I had spilled my beer (raspberry boysenberry sour, which was really good) and he immediately offered to grab me a new one on the house and brought it to our table.
