Stopped on the way from Texas to South Carolina. Very very cool venue with a lot of space. Dogs are welcome inside and outside. Food trucks available. Very knowledgeable and friendly staff. However would recommend visiting in day time versus night due to area in Birmingham. What a nice venue! It was very clean, love the outdoor area. We hit this place on a very slow day I believe as we heard lots of activities that happen there. We sat outside ( no shade) and watched part of a football game on the big screen which was very cool. The problem we encountered was the staff, they were nice, but not welcoming. Great laid back place to bring the kids, the dog, even your cat on a leash... I've actually seen a lizard on a leash here. Concerts are a great time. Avondale constantly has events happening. Check out the sour room for unique specialty cocktails & sour beers. read more

What keeps me coming back to this joint? The beer, the chill atmosphere, and the friendly folks behind the bar. The saison is my favorite, but most of my friends tend to gravitate towards the triple. I can say that they I love their huge outdoor courtyard area and the fact they are dog friendly. One of the best brewers in town. They were the first to step away from IPA'S and start brewing the beers that everyone likes. Their porter, Vaniliphant is excellent. Their Miss Fancy is the only Belgian Triple brewed in Birmingham and is 9.8% alcohol. Drink with caution. They have a great outside area and bar. They do not have food but are connected with Post office Pies. Saw's BBQ is also close as are numerous restaraunts. Avondale has no problem with patrons bringing in food. Avondale was my first beer in public since the start of the pandemic, we came because from their website the patio looked super spread out. That was certainly true, TONS of outdoor space to spread out and be very isolated. The beer was cold and delicious. The only complaint I have was the bartender was not wearing a mask despite the signs about every 3 feet encouraging masking while inside. There is a HUGE screen for watching sports and it would be a great place to watch football this fall. I definitely will return next time I am in Birmingham! read more

Our first stop on our ad-libbed brewery tour of Birmingham was to Avondale. First of all, I have to let you all know...I'm a flatlander...(not a flat-earther...that's a whole other kind of paranoia)...I grew up in a part of the country that's laid out in 1-mile square sections...roads run north/south/east/west. Thankfully, our "tour guide," my father-in-law, lives in the Birmingham area and was able to navigate us around to our destinations...because I kept completely losing my sense of direction as we headed into some parts of town! Avondale is a great, laid-back kind of space. We sat at the bar and chose a flight of 4 of their offerings...our bartender was friendly, and even offered a taste of a 5th beer that wasn't part of our flight. This isn't a fancy/snooty kind of place, but had a great vibe of what I love about craft beer...experimentation and fermentation. We didn't try any of the food, so this review is only about the beers. Enjoyed each one, and would recommend to any beer nerds like us! read more

I discovered Avondale Brewery on my first night in Birmingham when the restaurant served Vanillaphant Porter and I couldn't wait to visit this place. After the first visit I came back for a second visit. This place is a small local brewery putting out some awesome brews. They are located in an old building, but they have done an excellent job of making the place fresh and inviting. You can smell the beer when you come in and the staff are very friendly. I absolutely love the Vanillaphant Porter. This is an awesome beer, even more awesome they have a couple others in the porter/Stout family that are equally awesome. I sampled a couple other brews and they were all fantastic, but the Vanillaphant Porter had stole my heart. I just wish I could get this in Iowa. I will definitely be back if in the area again and if a business sells Vanillaphant Porter from Avondale Brewery I will be enjoying one. Thanks for making this amazing brew! read more

A few of us had beer tasting samplers while others enjoyed a few pints. Really amazing brewery in Avondale! I've been countless times for various events such as, Fourth of July fireworks, concerts, food truck events, and of course the occasional beer. They have a nice inside section, which they are renovating for more space. They have a big green area outside to sit and enjoy your beer. Pets are also allowed, so you can bring the fur babies along. They also have a wide range of beer types. They have seltzers, IPAs (even snake handler from good people), and a few sour beers as well. Even with it packed sometimes there is never a long wait for beer. They also have food trucks very often, so there's always an option for food! One of my favorite places in Birmingham. read more

I've been a customer a few times this year. On one occasion, we stopped by Saw's Soul Kitchen next door and picked up lunch and then walked over and found a table inside. Beautiful, flowing, tapped beers followed. This brewery is known for it's chill atmosphere, with dogs, lots of people and live music. On another occasion more recently, we came for the burger cook-off. I tried 5 burger samples (not entire burgers, just quarters and one half burger). I paired it with their Mexican lager. It was the first time i'd tried it. Pretty good and light. As far as beers go, Miss Fancy's Tripel and the Spring Street Saison are still my favorites. This is definitely my favorite brewery in the city. A great spot! read more

First time visitor. Came on a beautiful Saturday afternoon where apparently everyone had the same idea. There is a huge back yard prescience that is family friendly. Lots of tables, kids, dogs, and people enjoying the weather and each other. Several food trucks were available. One serving crawfish (which were delicious) and the other serving tacos as well as a boiled peanut stand. There is outdoor lighting but It is very minimal. Once the sun set the crowds cleared out. There is also a stage that holds live performances but this night there was a DJ that catered to the diverse crowd. My favorite was the Spring St. Saison, and I was most surprised by the the porter (I'm not typically a fan of porters, but this one was my second favorite from Avondale). It was a slow night and me and my friends waited while the bartender leisurely chatted with his friends. When he begrudgingly waited on us, he proceeded to tell us to move to the back bar. Came here as the last stop for the DGR and wasn't treated very nicely by the bartender. They had warm water available, which after an hour long ride in the heat it's refreshing at all. I asked the bartender for a cup of ice and he was a total jerk. I stood there for a second and decided to just walk away. I went inside to cool off and grab a Ginger Ale and we went on our way. Sweet spot located in just down the road from where I lived. Good beer selection, even though I am more of a dark beer kinda guy (porters, browns and stouts). I love all the brewery's around town and love to frequent them especially on a sunny day. Avondale is a classic and one of the first brewery's in Birmingham. They have a wide selection of beers so you a sure to find something to tickle your fancy, maybe the miss fancy one of their signature high gravity brews. My favourites include the mill city white the street car kolsh and blackberry wit, the later is seasonal what the others you can get year round Avondale has a huge outdoor space and is perfect on a sunny day, seats go quickly but the grass is pleasant to sit on. You can bring your dogs and children here and there is plenty of room for them to run about. They have a huge stage which is perfect for live entertainment, I have listens to a few shows there and the sound is class. Upstairs room for private events and downstairs tap room to get out of the rain. I recommend this place to locals and out of towners alike. Visited Birmingham to try out some local breweries. Avondale Brewing was one of the first ones that opened in Birmingham so we had to stop by and check it out. We got a flight and tried their core beers. I think their flights are a bit overpriced compared to others. While none of them stood out to me, all of them were pretty solid. The main entrance is by the bar which is a pretty tight indoor sitting area. They do have a bigger outdoor space with sitting area and another bar. You can't order flights from the outside bar though. It is dog friendly which was great since we brought our dog with us. If you haven't been it's at least worth a try. read more

I have been to this brewery many times and had a wonderful time. However, one night at a concert there was a bartender who refused to serve my friend and me. We were both carded and my friend made a joke abput being carded because she was asian. The bartender then became offended about this and said we called him racist and actively refused to serve us after taking oir order and told is we had to find another server. We told him we were obviously joking and he continied to refuse to interact with is and served numerous white males around us. Here I sit, 267 reviews deep on my Yelp profile. I feel like I have a good hold on most of the Birmingham establishments and given my opinion. If you asked me yesterday if I had written a review of Avondale, I would have laughed and insisted my insight has been published. But alas, here I sit today having checked in to a concert last night, and realizing that I should be ashamed of myself and lack of star power towards this great brewery. The thing that stands out to me the most about Avondale is the brewery itself. I have rarely found myself inside posted up at the bar ordering their wide assortment of craft beers. But I typically can be found in the wide open back yard enjoying a hoppy treat. As with many of the breweries in town, they are keeping a good rotation of brews rolling through to keep things interesting. But their flagships will always be on standby when you want something tried and true. As I reflect on my evening last night, it is not necessarily the brews that I go back to. It is the amazingly talented bands that they bring into their big, yet intimate concert setting. This space is also easily transformed into a nice-weather stop to bring your pup. One of the best places in Birmingham to spend an afternoon. Of course being a cornerstone of the revitalization of this continually rising neighborhood can be a feather in their cap. What a refreshing beer venue. After being absent from Birmingham for a few years, I finally returned to this venue and was super pleasantly surprised. Although the inside was great, what impressed me what the fact that they added better seating, neat lighting, and trees. Although one wouldn't think trees would have done the trick, it sure helps with the hot sun. This allows for two types of crowds. Those who like the hot sun, and those who don't. The beer selection and staff are great. Music is awesome, and the crowd is laid back. My kinda place to visit, and looking forward to many more visits now that I'm back in Birmingham. read more
