Very poor customer service from the receptionist on Monday February 19th. I called as a new client with a few questions and the receptionist was audibly annoyed that I had a question for the doctor and tried several times to just push me off to another vet without asking the doctor the 1 question. I've never encountered a bad veterinarian in Atlanta only poor support staff who don't realize they work at a hospital not a restaurant where they are taking reservations. I'm sure the doctor here is incredibly good as they were recommended but your support staff needs training and some professionalism. This is the best vet in the world. I love the small and homey feel. They are so kind, and they take great care of my babies. I am a very over-protective new kitten mom, and I couldn't ask for better doctors for my Timothee and Dot. I just love it here! Also, I would like to add that some of the older reviews are outdated. The current doctors are Dr. Graf (who my fur-children see) and Dr. Stacy. I would not judge this practice based on the older reviews. I was actually pretty shocked to see the overall star rating! This is a five star place. Also, they have great COVID protocols, and I've felt very safe and informed throughout this whole pandemic. If you live in the Decatur/Avondale area, this is the best! I have needed a same day appointment twice and was able to get in without any troubles. They are also open on Saturdays. Staff: All of the employees here are professional and very kind. I get a little worried when people try to pet or hold my animals and they all did a great. Vet: Very professional didn't wait in the room to be seen. Had some really good feedback and suggestions on how to take care of my cat when we got back home. Antibiotics were a reasonable price. Although it took a while to get an appointment here as first-timers, it was well worth it. I had an appointment for my dog for routine exam, bloodwork, etc. A couple of days before the appointment, my 18-year-old cat took a turn for the worst. We are new to the area and hadn't already established a relationship with another vet. I called the day before and they were so nice and accommodating, and agreed to see my cat as well. The entire staff was so helpful and compassionate. Although patients for regular appointments are not allowed inside (yet), they permitted me to enter and hold my cat as he crossed the rainbow bridge. My dog struggles with arthritis and I felt that Dr. Stacy provided a range of options that my previous vet had not. She suggested changing his medications to more cost-friendly, yet effective, options. She also sent me lengthy follow up emails and is very responsive - I like that she is just an email away for a quick question or concern. In previous vet practices I've visited, the doctors are not there every day, and reaching them directly can be challenging. Overall, we are extremely pleased and look forward to visiting Avondale Vet Hospital from now on. read more

After our horrible experience with the previous vet, some of our friends recommended Dr Williams to us. First impression - the staff was friendly, kind, and polite even to each other. The tech was very helpful getting our big, shy kitty out of his carrier & then taking it to be cleaned after he peed all over it. Dr Williams was very attentive & listened to our concerns. He offered cost saving alternatives so our kitty could get the treatment he needed without us having to spend a fortune. He was very concerned about him & we went several times for follow ups to make sure the treatment was working. Fortunately, he's pretty much back to his old self. Whenever we go in there to pick up more special food, they're always pleasant & happy to talk. They have several animals of their own around the office who can be seen wandering behind the desk. This is my go to veterinary hospital for anything and everything my pets need. I have a senior dog who is extremely wary of veterinarians but the staff here always makes my little old man feel very comfortable. My calico cat is moody, quirky, and almost mean at times but the techs here know exactly how to handle her to help her feel more calm. The staff is knowledgeable, very friendly, and always willing to answer questions to put my mind at ease. My relationship with Avondale Veterinary Hospital has, after ten years, come full circle. I first used them in 2005 when I adopted my dog Richard from the pound. Taking him to his checkup the day after I got him revealed that Richard was suffering from heartworms. He was treated at Avondale and after a week at the vet and a few weeks resting at home was good as new. Soon after I found another vet who offered discounts for multiple pets. Sadly, the doctor retired a little over a year ago. Since then, I have used Avondale for boarding services. Most recently, Richard was nearing the end of his earthly journey. I appreciate the candor in treating him and the vet offering me my options. Ultimately, I had him put down. I have had only positive experiences and the front desk staff were especially sensitive and empathetic with my loss. Their prices are reasonable and they are efficient to get you in and out as is reasonably possible. I would recommend them for your dog and cat needs. read more

My family just adopted a dog on Tuesday, my first call was to this vet and the gentleman that took my call was so nice. I let him know about the adoption and he scheduled a FREE visit for us to come in and have our dog checked out. The dog has seemed a little itchy and I called again today, a different person took my call and was incredibly nice also. I have been taking my dog to Dr Carolyn Silk at Avondale Veterinary Hospital for about six years. I have also used Dr David Williams a couple of times. They are both excellent. Dr Silk obviously loves animals, and has an great rapport with them. One of the things I appreciate about her: She will never say anything regarding the care of your pet that she is not absolutely certain about; whether it is the diagnosis of a problem, or something as simple as the recommendation of a brand of food. We take our dogs and cats to Avondale, and have for years. Dr. Williams is nice enough- though, no, he is not a charmer- but I think he is a great vet, and an animal lover. His techs and staff are great. He's treated our pets for a number of non-standard ailments. He removed a large and aggressive mast cell from an elderly cat- and got every bit and it didn't come back (the cat lived for 4 more years), treats a cat with feline leukemia (Dr. Williams is compassionate and reasonable in his advice and prognosis), a dog with corneal dystrophy- and also a scary eye ulcer. Avondale Vet has taken care of our 'perfect' dog since she was a puppy. I have confidence in Dr. Williams and his staff. read more

I've been taking my Standard Poodles to Dr. Williams for 14 years. Always have gotten excellent care and he doesn't order needless expensive tests that another well-known local place does. Dr. Williams takes the time to explain and show me what is going on with my dogs. The one time I had a potential emergency situation they worked me in immediately and blocked out surgery time within an hour of my call just in case. Thankfully, it was not needed. When my girl dog was dying suddenly of old age at home they were immensely kind on the phone and handled everything that needed to be done to take care of her. I have to leave a nice review for a sad thing. Ugh. So, my little buddy Ren was really old. It was time to do the Sad Thing. I was planning on going to our usual vet, but they didn't open until 9 am and Ren wasn't doing very well in the wee hours of the morning, so I didn't think he could make it another couple hours. I called Avondale since they open at 8 am, and when the receptionist answered I lost my miiiiiiiind crying to her. I sobbed about my dog being old, and our normal vet not being open, and how it was time and he couldn't wait and be in pain any longer. She was so nice, y'all. She was understanding, she gave me the options and what they cost, and told me to go ahead and come right in. When I got there, she let me take Ren into a room immediately, and wrap him up in a towel and keep him as comfy as possible. She let me pay before we did anything else so that when we were done I could just leave. She told me they'd all been there and understood how painful it is to have to make that decision. The vet tech was also super sweet and showed Ren a lot of love during his final vet visit. When the doctor came in, he was very businesslike. I guess you have to be that way or else you'd be a pretty ineffective vet! He explained what was going to happen, and then he did it. When he was done, he let me have a few more moments with my best little dude of 12 years. I was a mess and wailed like a banshee, and I probably used up a whole box of tissues. But on the whole, as far as that sort of thing goes, Avondale did everything in their power to make it as painless a process for me as possible. I think we'll start taking our dogs to them in the future--the level of service was super great, they're a longtime local biz, and their prices seem very fair. read more

I have been here twice now and I have to say I am completely embarrassed at how low the standard of care is. When they board the dogs, they stay in a cage the whole day like a prisoner. When I went in for a routine visit for shots for my other dog, the veterinarian was unwilling to answer questions and had no regard for the safety of my pet. Had a terrible experience. Mr Williams was on vacation and had put a fill-in vet to run the show. I have a 6 year old Jack Russell mix. We took him in to receive shots and check the right ear. His hearing and vision was great. The fill-in gave the shots and informed my wife the dog had a ear infection. She put medicine in the right ear. My wife left with the dog and 15 minutes later he was having seizures and couldn't hold his head up. We were scared to death. We phoned the vet Mr.Williams office and was turned away after paying $250.00 25 minutes prior to this call. We were told to go to the animal hospital. I was so upset with the treatment we were receiving. Now my dog can't hear out of either ear and one eye glues itself shut. Well the animal hospital was another $190 on top of that already 250 that we paid. So when dr. Williams got back we went and seen him and he acted very very nonchalant about the problem that I was having with my dog and was told that this kind of thing happens all the time. Bottom line is when I took my dog he didn't have these problems someone needs to be responsible for it. Then at the end of the visit with dr. I have been taking my dog here for many years to see Dr. Silk. She is a great Vet! She has now retired and theres not much left in my opinion. I am out of state with my dog and her heart worm medicine has come up for refill. I will be back in GA in two months and wanted to wait to get yearly checkup done then but in the meantime I need her heart worm medicine. The doctor there would not sign off on a prescription until that time. What does that say to me? They really don't care about my dog. I am going to take my dog to the local(NC) Petsmart Vet place to get her her heart worm test and checkup. read more
